Minus humiliating work disclosing all about you and been told they found that you had a virgin card and are now no longer eligible.
Then one needs to go thru the tedious process to close it of the annual fee will eating savings in no time.
Better deals out there, if you pay a fee get something in return like travel insurance or a useful reward system!

    • Ha, $50 more than last time! And of course… I JUST received my card after signing up for last month's offer of $200 cashback lol

    • Got the one last month when the car rego was due… cashback paid already..
Now one for the wife 👍🏻

      • Hmm, rego is counted for minimum spend, that means council, water and utilities will work too?

I already jumped on this deal, is the current one available to me?

        read the post before asking….

  • Is this card easy to cancel?

    • +33

government now required ALL BANKS to have "cancel my card" feature/function ONLINE (app or website).

          no prob. it's free, man.

      • +1

Tell that to Bendigo Bank! They asked me to come in to branch just a few months ago. Hell no!

    • +3

Cancelled this exact card 2 days ago.
Was 2 taps on the mobile app and it was all done

Does it baffle you that every store has to have signs up advising this is a scam?

    • +2

      I think it's okay.

It also gets you a discount on your taxes. I saved 15% by paying my tax with iTunes cards.

I think it helps the ATO collect offshore taxes from Apple through the gift cards.

  • "Existing Westpac customers who currently hold a Low Rate credit card, or who have held one in the last 12 months and packaged cards are not eligible for this offer."

What does 'and packaged cards' mean? Seems a bit vague… The wording is rather awkward.

    • +1

package card = free cc when you have mortgage with a bank, offset account. well not free technically because you pay yearly offset/package fee

      • Would that only apply if it's a packaged Low Rate card? Or any Westpac card? They're usually a bit more specific.

How long does it usually take to get cashback from date of purchase?

    • +3

my case: applied dec 2018, met requirement jan/feb 2019 cant remember, cash back july 2019

      • +6

Makes this deal pretty meh. The mental overhead of applying, tracking and then cancelling while taking taking a hit on your credit score just to get $200 is just not worth it.

        • It’s really not that hard. A few date based reminders.

      • +1

My wife and I applied in March, spent straightaway and git cashback first week of April. Card closed straightaway

    • +6

Honestly, alot of hassel for me. Had to contact multiple times to finally get it. Took 4 months in total (from the eligible purchase dates).

As for commbank, I got it within 2 weeks.

I would avoid Westpac in the future as it seems too many vague restriction to get the cash back.

      • Same for me. Westpac took a long time to get mt the cashback, waaay outside their stated terms (in my case spent in early Feb, didn't get cash back until late July), and only got it after I chased them up.

      • Totally agree. I didn't have any issues with the rewards itself but this banks has to be the worst in Australia at the moment. When I applied for my previous card they took over 2 months for finally approving it as they have been asking 3 times for the documents I have previously sent them and I had to remind them to get it approved where as the bundled amex card was at my mail box within 4 days! Same is the service at branches. Don't expect teller at the counter to tell your current statement balance, system they have is so bad.

Hi :) does opening and closing all these cards impact on your credit score? Thanks

    • +6

      Of course. Are you new?

      • Yes he is Member since 2018. Probably student never have cc before

        • No I have credit cards but just wondering the impact of opening and closing them multiple times

          • +1

@d3sined: Only if you’re gonna take up a home loan in the next 12-24 months.

      • But it may be good impact if you make your payments full and on time? I have had multiple cc open and closed but having 'excellent' credit score.

        • +2

Sure if you are going to actually use this card long-term. But why would you? There are zero annual fee cards which can earn points perpetually. This card has nothing going for itself other than one-time cashback.

          • @lubos: Yeah, I'm using my Amex long term for point earning (thanks ChiMot). But what I mean is that opening and closing multi cc does not low down your credit score much if any, as long as no bad debts?

          • @lubos: Sorry which zero annual fee cards also earn points perpetually? Majority of the rewards cards I've seen come attached with annual fees.

            • +1

@nemaya: all AMEX no annual fee credit cards earn points. Obviously you should use the card only for purchases where vendor doesn't charge you extra for using AMEX.

              • @lubos: I see! Thanks, will look into it.

The only bank from big 4 that is still not implementing apple pay. There are better deals out there and they got apple pay.

    • +1

      Which deals are better?

    • +1

I haven't linked any of my cards to Apple pay.

Google can offer mobile pay for free but Apple wants to charge to use it so I would rather not use it.

      • But banks are the ones getting charged, not you

        • +5

So the banks absorb this extra fee and loss of income because they like me?

And stores don't factor in the extra cost of accepting credit cards because they like me?

Of course I pay for it in several ways.

  • anyone know of a balance transfer promo code for existing customers of 0%?

    • +1

Strangely enough - when I balance transferred a couple of years ago there was an offer that advertised with 24 months + balance transfer fee, but they never ended up charging me the fee so maybe they don't do it?

  • +1

This has probably been asked before, but just want to confirm are egift cards eligible purchases?

    • Eligible purchases do not include fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions,

Maybe not, depends what they mean by "cash equivalent transactions"

      • +1

correct. some people here will say "eligible, i got the cashback" BUT, just try try buy one small amount, you will see the transaction on your cc : "egift card". so technically westpac can say no it is not elibible.

one trick is go to ww store and buy one candy and one giftcard in one receipt. westpac will not know. but then you loose 5% off from cashrewards/shopbacks.

  • Just got the Westpac Altitude Platinum 2 days ago.

Am I eligible to this? To my interpretation, I am

  • +1

Just to clarify. If you spend $800 and pay this off you get a additional $200 ? Can you transfer this $200 and close your account or do you have to spend this $250.

If this is true I'm thinking of purchasing $800 worth of Gold from Perthmint, spend another $250 on more GOLD, convert to PMGOLD certificate and close CC account.

  • Westpac tryna pull a shifty. Called last week and this week to get the cashback for the spend $400 get $200, they told me they couldn't find the promo on their system. WTF. Did anyone screenshot the promo? I tried https://archive.org/ but can't see the promo.

  • Does depositing money into a sports betting account count as a "cash equivalent transaction?

It says "Eligible purchases do not include fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, payments to the Australian Tax Office, BPAY, refunds and balance transfers debited from the card account."

What if I was paying medical fees via pressing CREDIT on an EFTPOS terminal? Would this be eligible under the $800 minimum spend?

I've asked Westpac but they're closed until Monday and I bet you guys are more knowledgeable! 😀

    • Did you enquire about this? My guess is the answer is yes.
