YouTube Premium INR 129/Month (~AU $2.63) via YouTube India (VPN Required)

11880

Hello all,
Google has finally launched Youtube Premium in India for INR 129(AUD ~2.60) and Family Membership for INR 189 (AUD ~3.80).
Comes with Youtube Music, No Ads in Youtube as well as Google Play Music.

https://india.googleblog.com/2019/03/introducing-youtube-mus…

This cost cheaper that was posted earlier for using Russian subscription option posted here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/414890

I have signed up after cancelling Russian plan with my Macquarie Debit card so no conversion charges.

Everything included in post by @Dealbot applies here too.

Youtube Premium will give you access to -
• Ad-free videos: Watch videos without interruptions
• Save offline: Save videos and songs on your mobile device to watch offline
• Background play: Keep videos or music playing when using other apps or when your screen’s off
• Audio mode: Listen to audio only on the YouTube Music app
• Google Play Music Subscription (when available in your country) is included at no additional cost

Current pricing is $14.99 per month in Australia. This workaround should work for new and existing customers.

Again, the trick to making this work is having access to a VPN service. If you're signed up to one then the rest of the process should be fairly simple.

Instructions -
1. Connect a VPN to the server India (I connected to Bangalore)
2. Click on Paid Memberships(youtube.com), then click on Learn more.
https://www.youtube.com/paid_memberships

  1. Enter Indian address and pay by credit card.

Termination takes place under this link(music.youtube.com)
Example of a India Address :

India
Name :
Address line : My Place
Town/City : Mumbai
Postcode : 400070
State : Maharashtra

    • I nearly got through but at the payment screen I was getting mismatch errors - payment method and country don't match- Is there a work around for this?

      • find an Indian mate to do it for you. I got my brother to do it for me

    • Anyone know of any countries that have cheap family plans?

    • Do you mind sharing how you managed to pay for it? It seems to reject Australian credit cards (I tried a few).

I don't need a "family" account so the prepaid 1yr would be perfect if I could just pay for it!

      • I have family in India, I just made an account. gave my brother the password and he paid it there

  • Thanks, it worked fine with Hola and there's also a 3 months trial for new members so I don't get billed until 14 June 2019.

      • +1

I uninstalled it right afterwards. Hopefully that counts…? :P

  • +3

Can you fund this using your Google Play balance? I've got around $79 AUD just kicking around in balance.

    • I doubt that if we can use Google pay balance.

    • +5

Damn, I'm in the same boat. Currently funding my AUS subscription with Google Play credit.

    • Same here. Would like to know if cheaper price applies to "plan" and that the aud equivalent would be taken off play credit.

    • confirmed no option to pay with google pay balance, only cards…

    • +1

Stardew Valley is on Android now

But if I where you I'd be getting The Office (US) for A$60 (HD)

  • +10

For anyone on Android and unaware of YouTube Vanced…check it out. All the features of premium besides saving videos (and obviously the premium content itself), including no ads. No root access required.

    • +3

It's nice but it's bugged. History doesn't work and it doesn't take into account what you view. You see the same videos in your home page all the time and doesn't make great suggestions at it aswell. Crashes frequently too

      • +1

Perhaps you need to download a different version?

        Mine's working fine.

        • Needs a plugin for sign-in, I have the current version working on my Android 7.0 phone

        • Not sure if it's just me, but I have to constantly remove and install a new version of Vanced every 2 weeks or so because the ads start working again. I'm happy to pay 2-3 bucks a month to avoid doing this on all my devices.

      • I find it works well but casting doesn't work.

        • +1

For casting to work, first open normal (not vanced) YouTube and connect to your Chromecast/Cast device. It will open YouTube on Chromecast. Now open YouTube-vanced and cast away…

      • Do you have an old version? Did you download the plugin from the Vanced website that allows your to sign in?

I've had Vanced for over a year and all my recommendations are the same as logging into my PC, are fully tailored to me, and history works as it should. Never seen a crash once, either.

        • Same. A working fine since a few months I've been using Vanced. No download availability I hope a new version can do soon, otherwise I'm happy for zero cost

    • +1

Was about to post this - Vanced is the way to go on Android.

    • I use ogyoutube.

      • move to vanced, OG is EOL

      • i used to use ogyoutube, switched to vanced way better

        • +2

          yep…just switched

    • +1

I assume this is of no value if you mainly watch Youtube using your TV's built in app. The subscription covers every device you watch on.

      • True. Fair point.

      • +5

Not sure I understand, those sentences seem to conflict?

        • Agree, on one hand it’s stated that it isn’t of any value if you watch on a TV, next line says it covers every device. Which is it??

          • @Flying Ace: Sorry if my OP made it sound like YouTube Vanced covers all areas. It only helps with youtube mobile.

    • How do you play music in the background without having it in picture in picture?

      • I just hit play and turn the screen off.

Or I guess if you want to multi task youll have to turn off pip? Is must also be an issue with normal YouTube app with premium

      • I use NewPipe https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/releases

It is available of F-Droid too

      • It's in pip in the corner you can click it and it'll give you options. Top left should be a headphone icon, it'll completely minimize it while still playing

    • Do you have it working with your google account? When I try to install microg services call on S8+ it says 'app not installed'.

    • New Pipe is better than Vanced imo but lack chromecast and history across devices.

  • Is spotify better or youtube premium/music? :)

    Same content almost?

    • +1

My Experience, i find Google Music better, but its mostly individual preference.

      • Thanks. Quality is the sound should be the same ?

        • +1

Everything is same, expect its cheaper ;)

      • Do you need to be logged into the VPN to access YouTube? Thanks

    • I have found the content much the same, but I prefer the Google interface. Certainly will be down to individual preference, however having the music and no adverts in YouTube trumps just music IMHO.

      • +1

Youtube vanced has had this for years for free.

        • So YouTube vanced also has access to Google Play Music? Or it only has access to the YouTube no adverts?

          • @Pobman: Imagine Youtube with premium, but without the added premium content that no one watches - and it's free. No as Google Play music is a subscription service. Finding this app allowed me to switch to spotify and youtube without ads for $2 (vpn Philippines) a month.

            • +1

@onlinepred: As mentioned I prefer the Google Play Music interface over Spotify, and the simplicity that youtube is add free on all devices without needing different apps and plugins etc. is a big draw. Ie Android, ios, PC, Mac and the TV.

Must admit I've never watched the premium content, though other family members have.

    • +5

Spotify is the better app and streaming service. Spotify is better supported, has more features, better artist support and integration, better integration into Android, actual desktop app for mac and pc. Spotify also has podcast support, playstation support and artist uploaded playlists (eg your favorite artist posts playlist they used for inspiration for album etc).

      • Ok thanks. I mainly want to play it on my sonos and my bose soundbar moreso the sonos.

        • +1

I prefer Spotify for regular switching between devices as you don't have to "Cast" it, you can use the in app control to switch currently playing devices, then you control it all from your phone or desktop or whatever instead of getting lost in the casting game.

  • Can family account be shared between both regions i.e. my siblings back in India and myself in here?

    • I have not tried, but worth a try

  • +1

i have lots of music on my current google play account (Aus), will i lose all of this if i transfer to India?

    • Nope, I used to have GP Music back in 2016, and my playlists from then are still there now with the Indian sub

  • Cheers! No brainer at this price

  • Once it's signed up via VPN do you need to continue to use a VPN to access the service or is that just to do the initial payment?

    • Only for initial signup, after that no VPN required

    • Na, just for the initial payment

    • Also, can I sign in to the you tube app on my TV with my google account and use it? Or does it just work on phones?

      • +1

This would work on any platform supported by Youtube/google.

        • +1

          Thanks OP. Great deal.

  • ty worked flawlessly. Just had to google an indian city for my address xd

  • Thanks for this. I found I had to cancel my Google Play music sub as when I tried to cancel Youtube Premium, nothing happened. As soon as I did that, it gave me the option to re-sub to Youtube Premium with the correct price via VPN. Also charged to my 28 degrees card so I won't get hit with conversion fees.

  • Thanks OP

  • Signed up all good. 1 month free for me. I wonder that happens for each following month. Will I get charge the Australian rate or Indian home???

  • +2

Are they strict on this? Like do they cancel accounts if they figure out you're in Australia?

    • +1

I don't think so, I was using Russian/ Ukrainian Youtube premium for the last 4 months and never got an issue.

    • +17

Just say you work for Telstra customer support if they ask

    • Less profit > no profit

  • +23

just signed up with Kohli's name and address..now i can watch unlimited Smith videos

  • Which is the best & safest VPN I could use? Preferably free for a month? Thanks

    • Just use the 'tunnelbear' app. Its free. Worked for me.

    • +1

      tunnel bear chrome extension

      • Thanks, I installed it, but it only shows one country USA, am I doing something wrong here?

        • Click on the word USA and it will give you a list of other countries

          • @ash2000: I still cant see India in the list of countries in the TunnelBear? What am I doing wrong.

  • +1

Does anybody know if Google periodically checks if you are in India ?

    • +10

they always know where you are

    • +26

Does anybody know if Google periodically checks if you are in India ?

Yes, they periodically email me and ask me to submit a selfie showing where I am.

    • -1

To be eligible to share a YouTube family membership, all family members must live at the same residential address as the family manager. This will be confirmed by electronic check-ins every 30 days.

      • +2

Not sure if you are just taking this piss.
If you are, congrats for making it sound legit. If you are actually being serious though, you're full of it.

  • So if you have a current family plan you can cancel and join in India with the cheaper rate and still use the same account? Or do you need new accounts?? Thanks

    • OP said he cancelled his russian YT Premium then signed up for this.

So yes, you can cancel and join again.

  • is it possible to get cheap google one subscription through india as well

  • +2

Came here to give kudos to the OP - works like a charm and now have cheap YouTube Premium! Hello no ad lifestyle.

  • +2

Well let's hope the Aussie dollar doesn't drop much in relation to INR.
    Thanks OP

  • Thanks OP,

    signed up family account

    • what rate did you see, I am seeing 169INR and 249 for family

      • 189 INR for me

        • +1

I was trying to renew using Youtube (iPhone app) but when I used the mobile browser, it started showing me 189. Signed up so all good

    • How do you get your family member to join? I invited my wife but once she tries to connect it says Looks like you're in a different country than the family manager.

      • I'm having the same issue right now? Did you manage to fix it and how?
