YouTube Premium INR 129/Month (~AU $2.63) via YouTube India (VPN Required)

11880

Hello all,
Google has finally launched Youtube Premium in India for INR 129(AUD ~2.60) and Family Membership for INR 189 (AUD ~3.80).
Comes with Youtube Music, No Ads in Youtube as well as Google Play Music.

https://india.googleblog.com/2019/03/introducing-youtube-mus…

This cost cheaper that was posted earlier for using Russian subscription option posted here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/414890

I have signed up after cancelling Russian plan with my Macquarie Debit card so no conversion charges.

Everything included in post by @Dealbot applies here too.

Youtube Premium will give you access to -
• Ad-free videos: Watch videos without interruptions
• Save offline: Save videos and songs on your mobile device to watch offline
• Background play: Keep videos or music playing when using other apps or when your screen’s off
• Audio mode: Listen to audio only on the YouTube Music app
• Google Play Music Subscription (when available in your country) is included at no additional cost

Current pricing is $14.99 per month in Australia. This workaround should work for new and existing customers.

Again, the trick to making this work is having access to a VPN service. If you're signed up to one then the rest of the process should be fairly simple.

Instructions -
1. Connect a VPN to the server India (I connected to Bangalore)
2. Click on Paid Memberships(youtube.com), then click on Learn more.
https://www.youtube.com/paid_memberships

  1. Enter Indian address and pay by credit card.

Termination takes place under this link(music.youtube.com)

    • I have the same issue so what address did you change to?

      • Ummm just look up a hotel in Mumbai.. then auto complete made some suggestions, so I selected the first.

        • No worries all good now thanks, got 3 months free as well :)

      • I used 7 Wardha Rd and the first autocomplete and it worked so yea.

  • Thank you! Used NordVPN and worked flawlessly. Been paying 19 a month for family so this was awesome.

  • so we don't always have to use a VPN right? Just for the sign up via India?

    • +1

      Correct.

      • thanks mate

  • +3

Is there a way around the indian top charts for google music?

    • I would like to know this too!! P

  • -2

Set n forget and subscription won't keep charging normal price after 12 months?

  • +1

Great deal OP. Google probably realised that the population of India increased by a few thousand just in a few hours. And coincidentally they have family members in Australia :) :)

  • +1

Awesome post, installed TunnelBear VPN extension and just signed up. Thanks for the great find OP and the VPN advice guys!

  • Is it legal to take membership this way or is it fraud/cheating?

    • Dunno but I guess its the same as when we all accessed the US version of Netflix before it came to Australia.

    • +4

      Just like they pay taxes

    • I think it's a loophole.

    • In short, no it's not illegal or a criminal act however you could be sued for breaking a TOS.

      • Done..thanks.
Payment done by CBA gift card MC.

  • +1

I had the Credit Card error until I looked up a hotel and used its address. Good Work !

  • -1

As described in the footnotes of the linked page, this is a "Trial" price and it will revert back to "normal" price after the trial ends, and customers will be charged the new price unless canceled before. No indication on when it will end though, and I am pretty sure they will send an email before that happens. Just a heads up.

    • Probably just means that it will go to the normal price after the promotion ends. Aka, if you miss signing up now, you'll miss out on the cheap subscription.

    • +1

I think the 'trial price' refers to the free month (s) for zero dollars?

  • Bargain of the month. Thanks.

  • Getting "An unexpected error has occurred. Please try again later. [OR-IEH-01]" once I hit BUY button.
    Using a citi Debit Mastercard.
    Any one else got it?
I have tried two different address.

    • Yes, I got same issue, I was using citi card as well. Now my Google pay has been suspended. Not sure, it's card related issue or not.

      • Same here. Got an email from google saying the account is suspended. :(
        What's next? any idea?

        • not really sure, I just submitted what google required and need wait 24-48 hrs.

    • I tried to use NAB credit card, and got same error again"An unexpected error has occurred. Please try again later. [OR-IEH-01]".

      • Try on the mobile? I was having this issue on my desktop.

        • I tried on desktop.

          • @shoppinginsyd: You need a proper address, use a Indian address generator

I was getting that error as well until i used a more realistic address

            • @Serapis: I have tried it with both Windows and Android
This is what I have done:
              Used TunnelBear VPN for Windows.
Went through the "https://www.youtube.com/paid_memberships" link, tried buying premium (not family).
              Payment page:
Entered CITI bank debit Mastercard which was never used with Googe Payment before.
Entered addressed generated by address genarator.
Hit buy, got the error: "An unexpected error has occurred. Please try again later. [OR-IEH-01]".
Searched for a solution to the error and as per recommendation that it might be address related issue, tried changing the address by directly searching on the address box of the payment page to find an address recommended by Google. Same issue.

By that time, I already got an email from google saying "You're receiving this email because we haven't been able to verify some of the info on your Google account."

Tried again the whole thing from my Android device with ExpressVPN.
              Same exact issue.

Not sure what we have done wrong.

having a FOMO at the moment. :( No one else except @shoppinginsyd and I having this issue.

Would you kindly PM me the address you have used? Maybe I can edit your address and use that?

              • @iamtapu: same here. I got my account verified by Google. But still failed to add CC to Google pay. Had a chat with Google online chat and need another 24-48 hours wait. Some guys saying that error due to VPN. But I still failed even not using VPN to add CC to payment method in Google pay. Not sure why.

              • @iamtapu: Good news. Eventually, I got it done now after chatting twice with Google Play online chat.

            • @Serapis: Thanks. Eventually, I got it done now.

              • @shoppinginsyd: Thanks for the update,
I have managed to get it done as well.

So, I tried again and it was giving me the same error as before.
I found out that I have now two payment profile in google pay.
I removed the second payment profile and then tried the same process again with the same CC.
                it worked this time.

  • Can you do this with an existing Gmail account, or do you have the change the address and locale of that too? Just wondering whether to change the subscription on our existing family "owner" account, but don't want to stuff things up.

    • +1

I used my existing account and just added an Indian address for payment.

      • Thanks. Did you have a subscription before?

  • is there similar deal for Apple Music?

  • I have created a gmail account and link a credit card with India address but after VPN to India it’s still showing 169 per month for YouTube premium
    How to fix this?

    • Are you doing it via an iOS device? If so, do it via browser instead so that you’re not redirected to the YT app. For some reason that’s showing a more expensive amount….

      • Yeah I was on iOS and it opens the link via YouTube app.
Imanaged to figure it out and able to subscribe via browser.

The good things it’s 3 months free before start charging my card
So I will how it goes by then

        Thanks

  • Great post! Thanks OP.

Family plan + the Netflix deal from Argentina months back. Streaming goodness $6 per month!

  • Thanks op got a family account using my VPN unlimited lifetime (which only cost me $40).

    • Windscribe? :)

  • +1

Tempted, but having the Indian charts is going to be very inconvenient for me for Google music.

    • you can only have access to your current county music charts only as I know.

  • +5

For anyone still considering this. I've found the following with regards to existing playlists

I've got a few playlists which I've built up over the years in Play Music, and about 10% of the songs are either not available using the India hack due to licensing, or they are on there but I've had to add them from a different album.

Its annoying but by going through the playlists on the app, cycle through each song until you see one skip, that one needs to be re added.

If you haven't been making huge playlists. Then this won't be a problem to most people

Also, top charts and new albums are now all Indian songs. Seems like nothing can be done about this, except to start getting into Bollywood music! Bangrah!

  • Can you set the payment method as Paypal?

I'm still considering doing this but not too confident to hear some people have been having problems with credit/ NAB cards (above)

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

Cancelled my current subscription, followed your instructions and everything appears to have worked.

Haven't been charged yet as it looks like this will happen when my AUS subscription expires on 24 March 2019.

    Saved $13 pm.

    Cha Ching!!!

    • Ditto. Used PIA VPN.

Says my membership type is YouTube Member. Concerned about that. I chose the family option.

  • Kinda wish I didn't do this. It changes all the stations.

  • I just got 3 months free trial as well with the subscription….

    • Same here - yay for not having to pay till June

  • I'll keep this for a month. I use the stations a lot. Deal-breaker for me now that they're Indian music.

    • Mine are still Australian. I had a local sub first then Russian then Indian.

  • Thanks OP, changed from Russia to India now. My wife will be rather happy. LOL. Had some issues when renewing premium for family through the app, after trying several times I just disabled the youtube app and did the subscription via browser which worked with no issues. Hope that'll help someone who'e having the same issue.

  • Thanx OP, changed from single user via Russia to family account via India. I upload all my "own" music to google play so who cares about the charts being Indian. LOL, who uses that crap anyways.

    • Huh? If you have your own music, why use Google music?

      • +1

Can upload your collection of MP3/FLAC to their servers and play back (streaming) on any logged in device, anywhere. Kinda handy. Beats syncing libraries and the like and doesn't have to be locally stored.

        • +1

You can store and replay 50000 of your own songs without a subscription too.

  • I wish I lived in India

    • +11

      Said no one ever.

      • y?

  • I've gone back to the AU version. Though this is good for those that don't care about stations.

    • Any effect on normal YouTube aka YouTube Premium.

Not that interested really in the music just the no ads and background play.

      • No affect on Youtube Premium and Youtube Music

    • What stations? For YouTube Music ? I’m seeing all Australian stations. No issues here

  • i didnt have to put in my address just the state.

    anyone else?

    • yup same here

  • Cant seem to get this to work with a Mastercard

    • I found my 28 degrees card wouldn't work, but Coles Mastercard did.

  • +7

Looking at the popularity of the deal, feel for the Data Analysts at Youtube. They thought that population of India is just over a billion :)

  • If the Indian suggestions in GPM are annoying you. You can always use YouTube music as your music player. All the suggestions are English/normal

Afaik, it's all going to be migrated to there eventually anyway.

  • I mostly listen to classical music, it all changed to Indian music now.

Don't Indian people listen to classical music? Why would the system change everything to Indian music? This is kind of silly.

    • +8

They probably listen to Indian Classical music…. ;)

    • You've signed up for YouTube via India. How is it silly lol?

  • Why are people not worried about this being caught and as a result you are blocked from using google services altogether? I can’t dream of a life without google and its services. Moreover, google is notoriously know for punishing fraudulent activities without mercy. I knew few cases where they did that with copy right issues. How come people are not worried about google doing a crackdown and punishing? Just confused.

    • +1

Why would they ban you? If they ban you they won't make money off you. It's business.

    • +1

I don't think a single person on here has reported being banned so far for any hack. At the end of the day its revenue Google wouldn't have had.

    • +5

I think the worst that could happen is being kicked off the Indian plan

    • +1

Yeah, that would be unprecedented being kicked off Google services altogether. They make more money off your data than they would the loss from Aus > India anyway

  • I have used the VPN on iphone, the youtube apps shows the right price in rupee but when I tried to sign up, it does not allow as ‘my itunes is an australian itunes, so I need to sign up in Aus’. It doesnt even ask me to put in a credit card. Anyone else experienced the same thing?

    • +2

Don’t do it from iOS. Had the same problem and I used Windows pc instead.

      • Hello, I use Mac, I have not tried on windows pc because I dont have one. So what VPN do you use on your PC?

        • free TunnelBear

  • worked straight from the youtube app for me. Was having troubles with the website. Using a commbank debit mastercard

  • Was anyone using Russian Profile before switching? If you goto https://one.google.com/storage do you still see the storage price in RUB instead of INR / AUD? Anyway to fix this (apart from closing the RUB payment profile? Even on VPN same issue. Price is showing RUB but have changed YouTube Premium to India

I did read somewhere about changing location in Google Profile or something else but lost the link.

    • I was getting price in RUB whilst on a Indian server. Tried different VPN program and it worked.

I never did the Russian work around though

  • Is this the same as YouTube Red?

  • +3

Cancelled family subscription (due to roll over tomorrow anyway), VPN (PIA) to India, resubbed with Amex (3% charge) using the Marriot Mumbai hotel address. Any invalid payment menthod issues will likely be the address used. Checked the existing family group; all rolled onto the new plan without needing to accept invite. Perfect.

In regards to the indian charts; I'll give it until Monday and then muck around with deleting my recent location history in play music to see if it fixes it. Otherwise I'll see if I can update my payment method.

    • Thanks for the info. My setup appears to be the same: existing family subscription with members. I am keen to reduce what I pay per month, as long as it does not completely stuff up the music being suggested to people using it, as we use Google Music all the time at home and in the car. Please let me know how you fare with this.

By the way, did you delete existing addresses, or just added an Indian one?
