MAX Basic (With Ads) Free With Foxtel Subscription

114

Max Basic with ads is included free with a Foxtel Subscription.

You can upgrade it but I'm not sure if you get a discount.

You can watch it on your Foxtel IQ3,4 and 5 or on a MAX app on a mobile device.

Note: when you first look at the MAX section on your Foxtel box you will have access to just a tiny selection of shows on MAX (just 89 at the time of this post).

To unlock all the available MAX content in your subscription, to watch on your set top box AND to watch on a mobile device using the MAX app, you'll need to first set up your MAX account on a Foxtel set top box (eg you can use a QR code which is currently accessible from the "Trending Now" section).

So content that used to be included and ad free is now on a new platform with advertising. Not a deal 🤬

    • -1

Not sure it was ever totally ad free - also not sure if there are ads within the shows on Max.

But yeah, I agree the fragmentation of services is sh*t. The only saving grace is this is one more streaming platform that might take subscribers away from Fauxtel..

When watching on demand with Foxtel Go there was an ad or two at the start which wasn't terrible. With Max you get three blocks of ads during an hour long TV show.

Max (Basic With Ads) Free With Foxtel Subscription

    Hardly free then….

Blows my mind people are still willing to be fleeced by Foxtel, and pay for ads. Especially OzBargainers who should know better.

    • +2

Also, last time I got Fox Footy, you couldn't even watch a game on time delay or watch it immediately afterwards. You had to wait about a day before it was available.
      Kayo is way better…

There are free live streams for most sports on the internet if you know where to look.

        • internet if you know where to look.

doesn't help if you don't know where to look…

            @jv: reddit: search sportzx

            • @Dogstar: I use drogon.tv which costs a small amount but no bullshit popups & scam websites, great for PPV events. Dozens & dozens of live tv channels as well from US/UK/EU

            • @M00Cow: Checked this out hut im confused lol. Do you pay for a subscription and get the login details to edit into the playlist file, which youll upload on your own server? Do you need vpn to watch?

              • @ozchobie: read the stickies. basically you need an IPTV app, buy subs, enter the details. it's a bit of a learning curve to get started. I did some free & month trials, so you can see what works for you…

                no vpn, server, required.

it's not perfect, but worth the effort. It runs off Chromecast well.

                • @M00Cow: Oh cool. I will look for trials. I do have players already. I’ve only used Matt Huisman’s one for the last few years during my kodi days but since moved to using uhf on my apple devices and televizo on android.

                  Thanks!

        • The problem with many of those is the impossible times, to watch a football match in Europe you need to stay in front of a computer at 4 am

          • +1

@Laziofogna: With Tivimate android app you can record (i believe others do too). Some.of the services have channels you can rewind (mostly US, Canada & UK sports). Some have VoD replays (never bothered looking at), some channels have replays (I often watch IPL full replays or 1hr or 20min highlights in the morning).

I agree Kayo is handy. it was value $15/mth or $25 for 3 screens. The problem is sports are greedy and broadcasters are stupid paying excessive money for rights and we end up footing the bill. Then there is the fragmentation.

Anyway I'm paying less then a month of Kayo for a year of 33k channels.

    • Some OzBargainers also wear $500 Aussie boots and text from $2000 smartphones

Value and price are different concepts

Foxtel is the worst. Terrible product, overpriced and living in the 1990's. And then when you go to cancel you've got to go through the pain of returning the box or get chased for a +$300 fee.

    • go through the pain of returning the box

they pay for the return, how is it a pain?

      • -4

Do you enjoy going to Australia Post and standing in line for 30 mins?

        • +6

          yes

I usually find a cheap USB 2.0 thumb drive on sale…
Often in the shape of a star wars character.

Last time i returned a box in 2018. I was given a code to give to auspost. Tyey supplied packaging and done it all at no cost to me. Hardly a pain

Max Power, he's the man whose name you'd love to touch

But you mustn't touch, his name sounds good in your ear

But when you say it, you mustn't fear

'Cause his name can be said by anyone.

      RC Cola for the win

  • You gotta stop using the word free followed by with, if i have to spend money to get access to it then it is not free.

"It comes with a free frogurt."
      “The frogurt is also cursed.”
      “That's bad.”
“But you get your choice of toppings.”
      “That's good!”
“The toppings contain potassium benzoate…that’s bad!”

  • +4

Hardly a deal. This stuff used to be included w Fox anyway and is just now also available as a separate product.

    • -3

By "stuff" you mean the MAX app was included, not the subscription.

    • I called foxtel today and managed to get the Max standard plan (no adds) at no extra cost, they wouldn’t give me the premium plan (4K resolution) though. It’s $10 month extra!

      Agree this not a deal.

  • +2

this is just hilarious, free with ads more like a reduced service which in the not too distant future will be charged for or removed as HBO ditch fox. Will also depend on what the new foxtel owners DAZN will decide

  • +5

This isn't a deal, HBO content that used to be on Foxtel is now just in a separate app. Customers are actually worse off now as they used to be able to record shows and fast forward the ads, now they are forced to sit and watch them.

  • Once you register for your account. You can sign in using your Apple TV and so on.

  • Been with Foxtel for soo many years, with Austar and before that CETV when patty first ever started here on the Gold Coast

Had an agreement with Foxtel for a discount price due to being a long serving member on the Platinum package for 2 years starting from May 2024. Just got a text today saying it’s ending in may 2025 and to ring them. So yep gave them a call only to find out that will not be honouring the 2nd year and that this current deal ends in may 2025. As much as I tried to explain he was an agreement made with team member for 2 years they kept saying that my deal is no longer available. I went on to say surly the calls are recorded? Apparently they don’t have record of it

After all these years and it’s been a crap load, I will be canceling Foxtel!

Total disappointment as I’m a avid NRL watcher

  • Doesn’t it have to be a foxtel subscription with showcase? Which isn’t the base package
