Forgot I even made that table lol, thanks for the heads up NC, going to Canada in December so will be a perfect stock up!

    • Can you please continue to post Aussie deals while in Canada?

      • +2

        I'll try to!

  • +23

    Wow. Cool sale.

    • +3

      This needs more Votes

  • +3

Apparently this is one of the busiest sales Aldi does all year (got a friend who works for Aldi), so might be worth getting in early if you're looking for something specific.

    • I went once up here in QLD and it was insane. I can't imagine what it likes down south.

      • They have a ton of stock so usually stuff won't sell out in any size on day one.

        • Aldi at Cooma has more stock than any Aldi and they still run out, but unlikely on day one as you say.

        • @ATangk: yeah. I usually head in like one or two hours after the store has opened. It's busy but there is no pushing or shoving.

        • Depends what item, I wanted glove liners and a balaclava one year, went on at 11am and they were all gone. The next year I lined up and got them, but nearly didn't. Popular things will disappear like jackets in average sizes, boots in normal sizes etc.

        • +6

I went to 2 different Aldi's about 2 hours after they opened and the racks were bare. The only thing left on the racks was 1 right handed glove; Perfect for an amputee

        • +1

@Quantumcat: & they'll reappear a few days later as people starts to return their excess purchase (eg bought 2 sizes for a family member cos not sure which one fit better)

        • @ATangk: based on experience in previous years, they send the unsold stock to the Cooma store. You may not want to risk buying stuff on the way to the snow in the July school holidays but it’s worked out OK a couple of times for my family.

    • Good gear for the price but be prepared to risk having your goolies ripped off - some fierce shoppers hit this sale.

    • Car park was packed out for last years sale and there's usually only 5 car there early at mine.

  • +1

Awesome! Thanks for your hard work nocure!

  • What are the normal prices?

    • +6

Its a deal, if you get to purchase the item which you after.

    • You can compare the prices yourself… They are listed above and on the website… Unless you mean how the quality compares to.

  • +2

I notice the "Glen Marnoch" single malt is back.. 25yo expression this time. Not sure why, but I'm always tempted to give it a try.

    • +2

I had a blended bottle of 25y a few years ago which was about the same price which I got as a gift. It was very nice so I wouldn't hesitate to try a 25y single, but I wouldn't expect a $100 bottle to exceed any of the more expensive, big distillery 18y examples (FWIW, highland 18 is my jam).

Amazing that they are able to purchase and supply a 25y single at this price point. Not sure if it's a case of pure buying power, or it being a less desirable product…

  • Is this like all other Aldi sales where they have 3 of each sale item and are sold out in under a minute?

    • No

    • +1

Yes it is, they have more than three but all the good stuff will be gone within a few hours. Line up at the store before it opens if there's something you really want.

  • Just in time for machu pichu in July.

    • +2

      sounds delicious

  • +1

Kids ski socks more expensive than adults???

  • +9

Usually lots to start with, but it's an undignified free for all.

If you like rummaging through a huge pile of unsorted items, others doing the same, then the Aldi ski sale is your thing.

    • -1

I bought a ski jacket last year for a 10 year old and the zip broke just outside the 60 days refund period.

I sent a copy of the receipt and an image of the useless jacket to their head office and the head office response was (paraphrased) "we don't refund in these circumstances, suggest you try your local store manager"

      So we tossed it.

      • +8

See I'm the opposite. Have had an aldi ski jacket for about three years, used it for skiing and on hikes a lot. Nothing is broken.

Remember the set out aldi 60 day refund period is in addition to your rights under australian consumer law. Considering you don't buy a jacket and expect it to last 60 days and the zip not closing the central part of the jacket would be a major failing of the product, they would more than likely need to replace it or fix it. If not possible they can opt to give you a refund instead.

      • +6

The 60 days is a satisfaction guarantee period, it has nothing to do with Aus Consumer Law which would have covered you for a full refund. Aldi Returns Policy

      • its a zipper! my mum can fix that s*+% for $10 in 20 min…
        or what? $50 in store?

      • I'm also still using my ski jacket from 2016 sale both snow seasons and planning to use it this year too. The inner jacket is so thin and warm I wear it without the shell pretty regularly for shop trips and errands I the winter.

    • If you like rummaging through a huge pile of unsorted items, others doing the same, then the Aldi ski sale is your thing.

That's so funny and true. There's also always stuff that's been opened and left lying around spread over the top of a rack.

  • +19

For anyone looking for some light hearted entertainment, I would highly recommend grabbing a bag of popcorn and heading down to your local Aldi the morning of this sale.

Bound to get angry customers abusing each other and staff members.

You are also guaranteed carpark road rage too.

    • I've only heard the stories. I've managed to find a jacket my size a few days after the start of the sale. Maybe not the exact model I want, but it was light enough for daily wear, and probably heavy enough for wearing in the snow.

    • I went to one in Mirrabooka (WA - pretty low income area) last year. Everyone was lined up before the store opened (maybe 50 or so people), we got in and everyone was friendly and would pass you back stuff if you couldn't reach. I'm sure results vary store to store but I was pleasantly surprised, the news always blows these out of proportion.

  • +2

The Westend 4101 Aldi always has plenty of stock with little Crowds due to its inner city location but has plenty of parking

  • +2

    Any snow chains?

    • I think they stopped after all the problems they had with them. Cant use them at Mt Hotham either apparently.

  • +5

Any motorcyclists, the merino glove liners are excellent to stop your fingers from freezing off under your gloves. Balaclavas good too. Merino thermals are excellent but a little scratchy.

    • +3

+1 for cyclists - I have a pair of the merino glove liners that I wear underneath an old pair of cycling gloves on cold mornings.

  • +2

Apparently Chaos!! Very popular and the newbie slopes at most resorts are normally well populated by folks clad fully in 'Crane Sports' finest!

  • i think the only chance of us getting some of that stuff is at aldi alice springs

  • I dont know if I should go for the "Premium Ski Shell Jacket", in lieu of maybe a SuperDry one
any advise if it's a good value, maybe somebody got one from a previous sale?

    • For these prices and Australian climate you can't expect 100% down feathered shell like you get with other brands like feathered friends etc.

You'll easily pay $600 sale price or even over $1000 for a down shell. Such as these:
      http://featheredfriends.com/frontpoint-down-jacket.html

Not only that you will boil in even our coldest winter day.

      • thanks for your input, cant edit my post now but I actually want to avoid feathered/puffy jackets,
and the 119 ladi's jacket is just plain, so to speak

    • +3

Without me researching, the Aldi ones are 20k/20k and I highly doubt SuperDry can provide you the same specs at that price.

    • If you mean the superdry jacket from the deal a couple of days ago, it will wet out very quickly if it rains or you fall a lot. They are splashproof at best

  • I look forward to the fist fights in store - At least someone wearing a ski jacket will provide extra padding on the knuckles :)

  • Know someone in Perth? Get them to buy yours and sent it over. Sure it gets busy, but we get no usable snow here.

    • But we get PLENTY of usable snow in Japan =D

On topic however…we'll have gear on sale here too?

      • Yes. There were lines last year and it made the news.

    • Yeah, there are these new things called aeroplanes though. You can use them to go to places that do get snow!

  • Their snow gears are great!

Hopefully they have more stock now.

  • +1
  • Let the carnage begin… best time to avoid Aldi thats for sure.

  • I think i might go check it out, but im not prepared to fight other people for it.
if i get some, great, if not, meh.

  • get ready for war

  • +1

I feel like the Aldi Ski Sale is a social experiment in brainwashing. Aldi have successfully convinced the little people en masse via A Current Affair that they need to fill their cupboard with ski gear they'll probably never use. And then buy it all again the following year because they changed up the colours.

  • +2

The featured picture closely resembles Far Cry 4 boxart.
    Is it just me?

    • Far Cry 6 to feature an Aldi ski sale outpost mission…

  • What's the difference between the Premium Ski Shell Jacket/Pants vs normal? Is it worth paying double the price if I am only intending to skii Snowy Mountains?

    • depends how often it rains.

if it rains a lot then i'd get the 20k/20k

    • +1

Premium has a higher waterproof rating of 20K vs 10K for normal. The premium is a shell jacket with a removable liner for insulation. The normal has insulation built in to the jacket so the premium is more versatile and can be used as a rain jacket without the liner for other activities when it is warmer.

      • thanks for that bit of info! and assuming you got one,
any comment on the actual quality/usability of it on normal daily scenarios (not during snow activities)

        • Havent got one but thought about buying a premium pant as a back up. Also, the removable insulation only applies to the jacket. The premium pant is just a shell and has no insulation.
Quality looks good from what I've seen in store and read on forums.

I have used a similar jackey on a hike when it got cold. In sydney, I'd only use it if I needed to be outside in the rain.

      • also higher breathability from memory

  • If you there an hour after opening, the left overs are usually shell jackets (with reduced cold/water proofing), apres boots, sleds, random odd sizes in most items.
Helmets and goggle go instantly. Beware of 6 member families descending on an ALDI… they will split up, and target everything at once.

  • +3

    Thanks, OP.

As a Carlton supporter, this could come in handy over the next couple of months! :)

  • I'm going to New Zealand for 10 days in July campervanning from Christchurch. Any suggestions on what type of clothing I may need?

    • +1

I did this last year. Didn't need anything too special. Just the usual layers. Skiing during the day I only needed a spray jacket and a polar fleece t-shirt (sportsdirect $7..they are great. Only wore my actual ski jacket snowboarding at night, but left it open. Still haven't found a time to wear Aldi thermals. Nights were -5. Trackies were fine in the camper. Mornings are when u feel the cold but it was never that bad. Put the stove on and cooked bacon n eggs. Great trip. NOTE. It only rained once dumped and was never windy, so that would change things. It was a great trip, great people, great scenery. Park somewhere protected. Get a van with shower n toilet and park wherever u want.

      • Really appreciate the effort to give me that advice, I am super keen. Did you have a heater at night or anything like that?

  • Cue comment from JV…I'm surprised there isn't a massive complaint on here yet

  • Oh god, I actually need Gloves and Goggles for my first ski trip in July. Fingers crossed my local ALDI (Prahran/St Kilda, Melbourne) isn't going to be a free for all.

  • I'd advise staying away from the gloves, they are terrible. Spending a little bit more will make you day a ton better.
Helmets are pretty good for the price tho :)

  • What’s the difference between kids ski jacket and snowboard jacket ?? Or is it the same.

    • +1

I think fit, snowboarding is puffy and longer.

Google says: The main difference between a ski jacket and a snowboard jacket is the fit. Snowboard jackets are a lot looser than ski jackets and tend to be longer in length. The extra length helps keep you warmer when you are sitting in the snow strapping your board on.

  • Googles are crap. Probably the first thing you will upgrade if you decide you like skiing or snowboarding and go a few times yearly. Lens quality and clarity is poor. Soft shell pants soak up water like a sponge. If you are just starting/beginner and spend most of your time falling and sitting on your butt, do not get these, as these will soak though within 1 to 2 hours. Gloves are terrible. Helmets are good value. The premium jackets and pants are very good value. Will last 2 to 3 seasons easily.

  • Hi, can someone please help wth what an outfit per person would be? Is it:
    - Ski jacket + pants + thermals or
    - Ski Shell + ‘mid layer’ aka jumper + pants + thermals?

Are they they choices (in other words does a “ski jacket” not need the mid layer?) and what’s the deal with soft shell vs ski shell?

Plus I assume gloves, goggles, beanie etc, boots (and helmet if you don’t want to hire)?

Skiing for the first time in NZ for a week, we re having a few indoor lessons before we go but expect no skill ha ha

    • +3

Yep you've pretty much nailed it. If you wear a shell jacket you can customise what you wear underneath. Colder day you can wear a couple of layers. Warm day on the hill you can wear a thermal top or even just a t-shirt underneath. Insulated jacket you normally dont need much underneath, even on cold days but obviously that is a relative assessment. Ive skied in Canada the US at -15 where it's been cold enough to need a few layers even under the insulated jacket. I dont know what these Aldi jackets are like but most of my insulated jackets have 'Pit Zips' (zips in the armpits) that you can unzip on a hot day to dump some heat. Insulated jackets tend to be more popular with the resort skiing crowd and most people tend to wear just a thermal top underneath. Shell jackets tend to be more popular with backcountry skiers who tend to prefer the ability to change-up the layers underneath to suit the conditions. There are no coffee shops or ski lodges to duck into if the weather gets gnarly the Backcountry.

      • +1

Thanks for such a helpful explanation! I really appreciate it

      • The Aldi ones have the pit zip!

  • I'm going to Cradle Mountain on August. Will I need any of these? Thanks.

    • We were at Cradle mountain very late December and it was snowing there.

  • -3

Small word of warning for Snow Newbs. Pretty much only snow newbs wear those ridiculous snow/apre boots at the main ski resorts. 99% of people wear sneakers/boots/outdoor/hiking shoes etc. All of the cool kids at the pubs are normally wearing soaked sneakers. Wearing the Apre boots is like painting a sign on your chest that says I am new to the snow. I am sure there's a grizzled old 40 year ski instructor somewhere that loves the things but by and large few regular skiers and boarders buy those Apre boot things.

  • Thanks OP. Perfect for Perth Summer

  • +1

Stupid crowds this morning. Got my Helmets and left

  • +1

Had no trouble at the St Kilda, Melbourne store this morning. Was there to line up at 7:45 am and the first person in the store, about 100+ people at the opening time. Got more than what I planned to get. The crowd was very well behaved, helping each other for sizes and reaching out to grab things that were out of reach. Lots of stock left when I was leaving just before 9:45 am, so people who came in after store opening also got plenty. Nothing like I've heard before about this sale and its hype.

I'm super pleased with everything I bought and it was all mostly cheaper than to rent (except pant & jacket) and rest was the basics.

Unfortunately, I'm only 152 cm tall and the ski pants are quite long for me, so might have to return :(

  • +2

Pretty happy with this sale; I went in at like 5pm and was still able to grab the pants I wanted (granted it was the last pair available, but still 5pm).

  • +2

I went in late afternoon to Marion on an unrelated shop - I actually wasn't expressly aware the Ski Sale was on. Most of the stuff was already gone. I was surprised there was still some left though, albeit odds and ends sizes. Found a nice Ski jacket with 12k waterproof/10k breathability - pretty happy with the fit and specs. Wasn't planning on getting anything but now have a nice coat for wet weather.

So, don't fret if you couldn't get in early, you might still find something.

  • +2

Went in today unaware I would find anything and walked out with pants, gloves, goggles, Merino top. Plenty of stock and jackets left. All ready for winter gardening now

  • Anyone aware of any stores in sydney that still have mens goggles? I went to my local and all sold out
