Happened to come across this last night. If you live chat with a sales representative they will be able to apply the bonus 5gb data.

Including my current plan and added bonus data, I'm now sitting at a nice 31GB/mth paying only $10!

Q. Does the 5GB Bonus data allowance cost anything? Is there a catch?
A. No. We are giving you the 5GB allowance for free every month to thank you for being a loyal customer and to demonstrate that we value you as a customer.

Q. How do I know when the 5GB Bonus data has been applied?
A. You will receive an SMS to advise you of your new monthly allowance once that the bonus data has been successfully added on to your account.

Q. Will the 5GB Bonus data show in My Account or 24x7?
A. Yes. The 5GB Bonus Data will be reflected in your monthly total data allowance in the My Account & 24x7.

Q. Will it show on my bill?
A. The 5GB Bonus data will appear on the bill as Bonus Data Allowance – 5GB.

Q. Can I share the 5GB Bonus data allowance with other services on my account?
A. Yes. If you are on a plan that enables your data to be shared between devices, the 5GB allowance will contribute to the total bucket of data that can be shared across eligible services on your account.

Q. How long does the 5GB Bonus data allowance stay on my service?
A. You will receive 5GB Bonus data every month to use in that month, unless you decide to do any of the following:

move to a Data Share SIM
move to a pre-paid service
move to a new plan, or
disconnect your service.

Any unused data allowance expires at the end of each billing month.

Q. What if I exceed my included plan allowance as well as the bonus 5GB? What charges apply?
A. If you use your plan allowance plus the bonus 5GB in a month, extra data will be automatically added in 1GB blocks for $10 to use in that month.

Q. Can the Bonus 5GB Bonus data allowance be used outside of Australia?
A. No, your plan allowance and the bonus 5GB data is only for use in Australia.

    Was able to get the 5gb added to the wife's mobile plan but not my own. I'm on the old telstra staff plan $10 a month and he said he couldn't make any changes to those plans. I would have to call in to get it added.

  • Every time for 6 months I look at the 24x7 app on wifi, I see this promise. Just chatted to Jyoti after a useless virtual agent and apparently this time it'll actually happen. A code will come with my Bulla mug I s'pose 🤔

  • I just spoke with Pranav on live chat and he was very helpful.
    I have 4 services plus a data SIM. Only managed to get the 5gb bonus applied to one service though as the three other services already had bonus data allowances and discounts applied to them previously. Happy with my result.

        Yeah - my two mobile numbers (one account/bill) were credited 5gb each and applied instantly. I've already got multiply bonus data attached to my account and they could still add this latest promo.

        Looks like they are cracking down on it though with it being ozbargained.. which sucks.

  • Strange, I received a confirmation email but it has my data share SIM number on it and not my main mobile.
    Reckon I should try and add them to the main mobiles too?

    Edit: that explains why I never received an SMS.

    they're all saying everyone will get an SMS within 24-48 hours, something sounds fishy here, they make it sound like even the people that don't ask them will get the 5GB bonus data

  • Spoke with Abhishek and went around in circles with similar lines to before in this thread (i.e. it's automatic, everyone will get it, 24-48 hours, loyal customers, etc) but still can't actually confirm if I will get it (i.e. am I eligible?).

    So far all he has said it's for long tenure customers with >5 years.

    "If you are tenured from more than 5 years then you are eligible for that."

    Does someone actually have to explicitly confirm it's going to be applied to you even if you didn't receive an sms? I'm mindful I have a companion sim plus 4 more data share sims (on top of my original Go Mobile Plus $135 sim).

    24 hours will pass at 6pm tonight. I think its a fair chance they probably wont increase my allowance.

    I will ring in tonight and just simply say I was promised an extra 5gb with the transcript and leave it at that.

    See how far will it go. Will report back

    Just did the live chat with Vasavi, very helpful.

    Just said I was enquiring if I was eligible for the bonus 5gb "thanks" for valued customers. Asked me to confirm personal details, confirmed I was "eligible" (with telstra 8 years), applied it for me and the text arrived before live chat was done.

    Took about 10 minutes.

    Done. Asked them politely if I am eligible as a long term loyal customer. Gave me the good news and was added and updated in the mobile usage widget within about 3 minutes.

    He checked my account, than he said in 48 hours it will be applied, He even gave me a reference number if it hasnt been applied.

    I mentioned I went into a store and was told it would be applied automatically and if I experienced any issues to jump on chat.
    Was super polite and they sorted it right away.

    I think mentioning that a store had approved it helps them processing it as they don't feel accountable.
    But overall I think just being super nice is the way to roll.

  • After getting told it's auto and no can do at their end initially this morning, decided to change tact and play the "I'm a loyal customer, colleagues have been receiving bonus' today but I haven't even though I've been with you longer/paid more".

    Then said I'm either playing too much or getting too little data, provided some equivalent plans, and said what can we do to save me having to leave Telstra (was very polite) - current deal (have already negotiated previously): $49 for whatever calls and texts, and 18gb data on 12 month plan.

    Was successful this time in getting it changed to 28gb a month for $39. Doesn't stack up against some of these mega deals I read on here, but pretty happy.
    Would be awesome to get the bonus 5gb in next 24hrs haha

      Nice work, ptrg!! That is how you do it! Be polite and work with them. Then when you get what you want (within reason) you tell them how good they are and that they have looked after you really well (they note this on your profile). Next time you try get a better deal, they see your profile and are willing to what they can rather than blacklist you with nothing.

    Worked for me - told the Online 24/7 Chat rep I walked into a Telstra store this weekend and mentioned to the sales rep that I am paying close to 100$/Month for 5GB and he suggested that I talk to the Online Re the 5GB Loyal customer bonus and to see if I was eligible (not true obviously, I went on OzB).

    He said that he would check.

    It feels compared to much of the OzB community, I have not hustled hard enough and 10GB is on the low end of the allowance spectrum.. but to me I see it that I now have 10GB / Month (which is double what I am used to) !

      You're paying $100/mth and only getting 5gb?!?!?! That just doesn't sound right! Is that including handset repayments/Phone? PM if you want and we can see if you can get a better deal. I'll walk you through how to do it.

      • @Tuhan - Oh yes! I am paying off the iPhone 7 128GB which I got on release day last year, so at the tail end of my 24 month contract (September 2018 for renewal). If there is still any hope to lower this price I would greatly appreciate the insight! Cheers

        • @Tuhan: I’m in the same boat as @cleong91 only getting 5GB a month too. I just tried the live chat and got told I was not eligible after checking my account. I have been a Telstra customer for over 10 years, so I guess I’ll keep trying?

  • So I chatted again around 8pm.

    Vishal was very polite about my concern and promptly added not 5gb but 6gb to make my new allowance to be 18gb. In addition, the usage reset again to nil despite I have used 2gb so far.

    I also got an SMS confirming the new allowance to 18gb.

    So thanks again OP.

    The only thing I am wondering now, is that my contract is finishing July 2018 (12 mths SIM only) and my plan is $60 minus $10 credit and 10gb plus 2gb extra (MX plan).

    After July 2018, will it return to $60 and 16gb? I think it will. :-)

    • Great to hear! Nope - if you are on a SIM plan like you stated you stay on it and keep getting all the benefits until you decide to change. You'll only lose those bonuses if you change plans. It just means you will no longer be locked in and can change whenever you want.

    • Nice work! Glad to hear people are starting to get it again. It really is available to anyone on a Post paid service, it isn't actually targeted at all. Just luck of the draw as to the sales rep you get.

      • What I think is happening here is that there is indeed a targeted and fully automated 5gb bonus for select customers, BUT on top of that, reps are issuing extra data or bonus credit (or both in my case).
        This has always been available to those who make an effort to contact them, however they may be currently more generous due to knowing others a receiving the auto-bonus (and that their current plans weren't competitive enough).

        • Yeah you are probably right. That makes more sense that giving extra data to some and not others would annoy customers so reps are giving it anyway… Just depends on the sales rep you get I guess.

  • They confirmed I'd get it and even gave me a reference number but I'm not seeing a difference when I login. Hopefully it'll sort itself out tomorrow.

    Holy crap… success with Nidhi.

    I have 3 services, 2 x discounted $39 MX plans (10gb + 5gb bonus), and a $5 data SIM on the iPad plan.

    Nidhi just gave all 3 services an additional 5GB loyal customer bonus, so with the 5GB multiproduct bonus I already snagged this week I now have 50GB of data between the 3 services.

    I asked for the loyal customer bonus, she applied it to the main account (I saw it instantly on the 24x7 app). Then she asked if there was anything else she could help me with and I asked for the same on my other services. I kept refreshing 24x7 and saw both extra lots of 5GB applied.

    I've tried like 6 times and each time the rep tells me to wait for a SMS for confirmation. I've been checking Telstra 24/7 app and the data still the same. It's been 2 days. The reps keep saying that I'm eligible for it and that the system will automatically apply the 5GB bonus. But it seems that the people that got it on ozbargain are saying that the Telstra reps are manually applying it to their accounts? I don't know what I'm doing differently to everyone else…

    • Hmmm - sounds like you have been getting the dodgy sales reps… Not sure what else to do other than demanding they apply it whilst speaking with them? Be polite but don't end the chat until they officially apply the data. It should take no more than 10-15mins…

    What a nightmare this has been for me.

    After a couple of attempts on 24/7 chat, I was moved to the highest plan without my permision.

    To have this fixed, I had to lodge a complaint and wasted half my weekend on the phone.

    The solution was to leave me on the highest plan with 40GB p/m than i was getting previously, and apply a special discount to ensure i am not paying more than before the change was made. There will also apparently be a early termination fee which will be waived after the bill is generated.

    Although I am way in front with additional data, it was not worth wasting half my weekend.

      I guess that is where we differ :) I would be cheering that I don't pay anymore and now on a far better plan… For the sake of an hour here and there you now have a far better plan… But each to their own I guess.

          Yeah I don't even come close to using up my allowance either.. but it's nice to look at knowing I've got that much :)

          What I sometimes do is just hotspot my phone and download/stream stuff because I'm on dodgy ADSL 600kb max speed where I live! Having full bars 4G allows me to go at 10mg/sec when I want to hotspot it.

  • I have 4 post-paid mobiles tied to 1 account and was told last Saturday that the 5GB loyalty bonus would be applied to 1 mobile, as the other 3 were already receiving bonus data. Even though the rep took my account details and applied it to the account, it never actually went through.

    Decided to try again today and this time it went through within 5 minutes (SMS received), but only for 1 mobile. Current monthly shared data quota is 64GB a month for all 4 phones. Not too sure if I should bother pushing it further to see if I can have it applied to the other 3 phones.

    • I would just keep trying a different rep each time and using the phone number that it hasn't been applied to yet. I have a heap of bonus data on my account already that didn't stop me from getting this as well. You should get 5GB extra per number.

    I finally managed to get this applied after about the 5th try through live chat. Until now I got the repeated response that the process was automated and to wait 24-48 hours. But I held my ground and politely did not take no for an answer - it took about 45 minutes of persuasion however with about 5 minutes to process. Luck of the draw for your rep I guess. They will say they can't add anything on their end and it is probably true to the extent that they cannot manually send out the Just to Say Thanks SMS offer but in the end the rep just increased my Shared Data allowance by 5Gb. I received the text whilst on chat and my 24x7 app updated instantly. Also, I am on the $49 JB hifi offer, however I was previously a long time Telstra user as well and it seemed like they could see my history. Thanks OP!

    • Perfect! Yes - they note your history down for EVERYTHING.. Which is why I stress that being polite, but firm, is key to when you want to get something like this in the future. If one doesn't 'technically' qualify, they see in your notes that you have been okay to deal with in the past, Telstra will usually give you something or just give you the deal anyway..

  • Tabindah from Billing said they'd hooked me u with a cheeky 10GB thanks to my mobile service (had for years) and a data share sim that I got 3 days ago. Checked 24x7 and only an extra 2GB applied… We wait and see whether it corrects itself in time like Tabindah promised in the transcript! Thanks for sharing the deal OP!

    • Yeah - when a rep says it will add automatically, don't believe them! Ask to have it done manually by them while you are chatting with them. Good to hear that it finally went through for you.

      • But they always respond with "We can't add it manually, it will be done automatically through the system"

          My reply to that would be this, "Yes it can. I have friends who have had it applied manually without any issue." I would then offer to provide the account details (mobile number) of who had it applied and let them know that that is all I am asking to have done. Exactly what was given to others. 99% of the time that works.

          If that still doesn't work then I ask to speak to their supervisor. They'll usually come back with, "Not available right now. I'll have them call you within 48hrs"… To which I reply, "That is fine however, please note that if I have to wait 48hrs to have something done that I know you can easily do, you will be the cause of me expecting compensation for lack of service." They then have one last chance to help resolve my issue which often has 'magically' fixed the cause of them not doing it in the first place and all is well. OR, I get a call back from the case manager/supervisor and explain the incompetence by the rep who has wasted his and my time for something so simple.

          When dealing with the case manager I usually try pump their ego by thanking them for calling me back and explaining that I have been a loyal customer for so many years, that I appreciate him/her for trying to fix this for me and when it is fixed, talk about compensation. It may be as small as getting one month bill waived, or it could be as large as getting $1000 credit (which is what happened in my last bill)…

    I think the chat person has to be from "billing/accounts" to be able to add the data instantly

    If they are from "sales" they cannot

    Therefore, start ur chat session from a window where you are about to buy a phone, so u will directly connect to someone from billing

    • Yes - not exactly sure which department I went through but it wasn't just a regular sales rep. The options you click on when going through the automated system puts you to the right department… hopefully.. lol

  • I just spoke to Prasad and after 30mins on the chat he was able to add 5GB for one of my services. He couldn't add it to the other service because I had previously received bonus data for it. I got bonus data when I signed up and I thought you could stack it, but he said the system wouldn't allow him to process it. So I only got 5GB instead of the potential 10GB. I might try again for the remaining 5GB. But I've already gone through 10 reps to get 5GB! OMG.
