I'd personally go with the surface pro i5

    • +3

That deal isn't active anymore it seems like? Price has gone up by $70USD and exchange has risen, making it like $890 now.

      • -1

Even at $890 still a good price

We use these HPs at work and I find the touch screen of the surface more responsive. The touch screen on the HP can get abit laggy sometimes

        • +1

All good, Surface's definitely do have a great reputation for their screen.

    • +7

thank you for the feedback however it look like the surface comes with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD as well as dont think the surface comes with Pen and Hard Keyboard. Not to mention this is Australian Stock with Local Warranty

      • Just pointing out that the surface is superior to this and a better investment with a better CPU and better screen

        • +2

          Sure thing buddy.

we are trying to be as transparent as possible. also I am just pointing out the difference as well. thanks for sharing.

        • +1

How exactly is 4gb a better investment than 8gb now?

        • -1

          better investment

But is it a high yield investment?

    • We had 7 of these at my office. Two Hard drive fails, 1 wouldn't switch on. Multiple calls for HP services but nothing got fixed and we lost atleast $40,000 worth of information in one of the laptop.

Sold all of them at $400 to get rid of them.

Just buy surface pro. You won't regretting it. Its expensive but worth every penny.

      • We have 4 at work and nobody likes to use them

      • Interested in knowing how the hard drives failed, considering this has a SSD only…

        • I meant SSD
          Laptop just stopped detecting them.

we lost atleast $40,000 worth of information in one of the laptop.

This is through your organisations own stupidity and not anything to with HP. Hopefully you learnt your lesson and now manage your data correctly.

        • Learnt my mistake. New business.
Got everything in cloud as well as network drive.

        • @curryblender:

Got everything in cloud as well as network drive.

You need offline storage that isn't attached as well so something like tape, Bluray or multiple portable hard drives.

    • I'm with u bruv, surface all the way…

    • That's not an i5, and it's S Surface Pro 4, not a new Surface Pro.

    • I'd prefer that too but you want the 8GB/256 version.

  • How does this compare to this? Yoga900s

    • Hi JamesX,

The Yoga was definitely a great buy however Yoga are not 2 in one. its more like the HP X360. awesome deal btw.
only thing is the HP Comes with LTE in build.

"And to top it off, it's being sold by a very reputable bricks & mortar store" I can only speak from personal experience … ordered 2 high-end laptops in June. 1 was new and other turned out to be ex-demo sold to us as new for new price. Clearly re-boxed. Laptop had scratches. After some pics they refunded the purchase price of the ex-demo unit. But it was a lot of time wasted in having to go through the process and then re-packing etc. Especially when the first one we opened we had already started to image it. The excuse was due to end of financial year they were very busy and they accidentally did it. IMHO I would never purchase form them again.

    • +16

      Hi Nonpop .

I do remember your order. we call you up and apologize as we are not aware that was a transfer from our store however we refund you quickly and on top of it we
gave $50 for your trouble. I am sure that you remember it right,

      • Yes … the time wasted worth the hassle. And passing an ex demo unit that was clearly used off as new was highly unlikely as an accident. Someone even tried to stick the factory plastic covering back on the laptop (with finger prints on the metal case). Then someone had hand written the processor model on the box. It also mean having to go through the rebox process, print out labels and wait for a courier to collect. Then we had to reschedule to someone to image the deices wasting more time. So I'm just calling it as it happened. And $50 credit for and $1800 laptop with all the time wasted, IMHO was not appropriate. For reference, we now have a small fleet of 7 of them + HP carepacks, a new server and a mid range MFC all purchased from Warehouse1 (which I know others have issues with) who have been sensational to deal with. They have delivered everything new, factory fresh. When we purchase new, we expect new not ex demo passed along as new. So since I am speaking from personal experience I just retell my experience.

Oh and nobody called me up. I raised the issue with your company and then had to supply the pics. I even had to ask for refund of the freight of the ex-demo laptop which you then agreed to pay. Nobody ever spoke to me on the phone.

    • +3

I too speak from personal experience. Purchased this and love it. And reading the comments here and here, can't see any complaints.

      • woooooooooooooooooooooooooow, how did i miss the i7 13.3" @1.3kg ….

        EDIT:
        with 512 SSD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • +10

If they actually gave you $50 for the inconvenience, then I have no idea why you are so scarred by the experience that you'd say you wouldn't buy from them again. That sounds like much more than what you'd get from any other customer service debacle.

Humans make mistakes and businesses are run by humans. These things can, and will happen and will keep happening because we are not perfect.

      • +1

        Well said :)

      • +9

Thank you for the kind words however it was our fault to start with and we will be trying harder not to make the same mistake again .

      • The issue is ex-demo passed off as new. Very hard to accidentally ship 1 new and 1 ex-demo as the ex-demo unit was made to look new with cables all re-wrapped and that sticky plastic reapplied (badly misaligned). The scratches on the laptop were a give away. The box having texture writing on it was a giveaway. The manuals opened were a give away. May be at $1,800 ea we expected new.

    • -1

I don't get it, why refunded when you needed 2 new laptops? Shouldn't it be more like send you a new one and give you a RMA to return the ex-demo?

      • We wanted 2 laptops to start to swap out 7 old laptops we have. This was the start of that cycle. We purchased 2 of the HP Spectre X360 16gig ram and 5152 SSD to see what they were like after doing our homework. We returned 1 unit the ex-demo as we had already started to image the new unit. We then went to another online store Warehouse1 and made a purchase of a single unit. When it went to plan we then purchased more. Again I'm just retelling a real personal experience of a very recent transaction.

  • If you are in Brisbane, a slightly similar machine for $895 https://www.computeralliance.com.au/hp-spectre-x2-12-a003tu-…

  • +4

I had this laptop for work, as a new starter I was forced this model because they ran out of the normal laptops (HP Spectre x360).

Things to note about this laptop:

    • Really bad battery life - I mean really bad.
    • Trackpad moves when you type causing you to type in an above paragraph, you'll need to lock the track pad every time you type large amounts.
    • Screen is small as hell, & you need to turn brightness up max all the time which drains the battery
    • Awkward working on public transport as you need to prop it up
    • 1 USB port… requires you to buy a hub.
    • It's not as portable as you would think..

Honestly, I would buy this computer for someone I hate.

    • Thanks, clicked on this wondering about the battery life. Will stay away

    • +1

      Fellow DTT? sup

      • HAHAH, YES! :)

Perfect gift for the mother in law then.

    • Please hate me and I will give you a eneloop

  • For those who interest in this tablet, you have to upgrade to the latest BIOS to enable 3rd party USB PD charger:
    See This
    This
    and This
I think Surface Pro is a better choice…

  • Yeah have one of these and wouldn't recommend it either. I got it for cheap off Gumtree so don't mind too much but in comparison to my housemates surface his machine is definitely better.

Some issues I have had in the ~5 months I have had it
    - Rubber standoff things on keyboard are very small so screen easily gets scratched by keys or anything lodged between keyboard and tablet.
    - Have had random blue screens when device goes into battery saving mode (may have been fixed in a windows update as haven't had one in a while)
    - Lots of issues with Lenovo Active pen and note taking in Onenote. Not sure if its the stylus or tablet but the palm rejection isnt the best. The device always seems to slow down and get a bit buggy after taking notes for a while so a reset is always needed. It fixes the problem for a little while but issues always comes back. Calibrating in windows didn't fix problem either.
    - Felt on bottom of keyboard comes off really easy. Not really the kind of machine you want to be throwing in a backpack.
    - Pretty annoying that it doesn't have a normal usb port.

We always hear and remember the bad things people do and rarely hear the good things, with very little margin on computer hardware these days that $50 probably made you NO profit on the sale. Now I call that good old fashion customer service. I guess you cant make everyone happy but don't worry I wont be loosing any sleep if they don't shop there again.

    • I think you were meant to reply to someone up above :P

  • a great business machine

    Ha, what kind of business
Core M is OK for surfing and other light stuff.
Definitely not for business. At least not my "business". Open 1 Word 1 PowerPoint 1 Chrome tab OK. Not 3 Word 1 PowerPoint 5 Chrome tabs…Ugh…
Still have 2 of these lying around the office for backup because no one wants it.

  • Wait for the Eve V if you want a very good 2 in 1 for the price.

  • This listing (**********) has been removed, or this item isn't available.

    • Listening is definitely available.

      • looks like only 2sold today. so far,,

  • Surface all the way

I have a SP3 that is basically my go to device

    • Agreed. I have been using my i5 8gb/256 SSD SP2 since 2013 which I bought for $1200 and could definitely say I got my money's worth. Additional items I have are the $70 Microsoft power cover keyboard giving an extra couple hours of battery life and MX Anywhere 2. I work as an engineer and use specialist software and some people are amazed at how the SP2 powers the software with no lag. I even use the MS wireless display adaptor for presentations and people do wonder how I'm connected to the screen wirelessly. I even carry around with me a mini display port to HDMI/VGA/Display port adaptor just in case.

Of course, there are negatives such as >2kg with power cover and tiny screen but works perfectly if you have a little docking station set up with additional keyboard and screen.
If I was to buy another computer, I'd probably go for another SP again.

  • +3

I got one of these (excluding 4G LTE) for $699 from a pricing error on hp's website.

Surprisingly compared to the negative feedback here I love mine. Having keyboard and pen included won me over.

The reviews on the internets were accurate.. the pen does not compare to the surface but it's sufficient for my needs. Mine has been quick and responsive for chrome, onenote and office. I have found the keyboard perfect comfortable and quiet and never had trackpad issues and I'm an oaf.

It has two usb c ports (eitheir can be used to charge) and usb c hubs and adapters are so cheap and easy to find now since the macbook went usbc only.

For the ultimate budget conscious I've found this an awesome surface knock off. Otherwise if you can invest in the extra hundreds then the surface will always be the class leader.

The screen is the same size as the surface but does have thick bezels.. but that helps me hold it.

Always check the reviews before investing! They are pretty accurate.

  • I own one as well and no issues with keyboard, screen, battery life. Love that it doesn't need a fan so no noise.

It's definitely a cheaper option than Surface Pro BUT really killed by the crippled USB-C ports and lack of USB 2/3 ports.
