How to find Amazon deals that can ship to Australia?

    • +4

Login to your account with your shipping address, it will tell you.

BTW, I assume type cover and pen not included, right?

      • +1

From the questions area the cover isn't but the pen is.

        • Cover is between $50 and $100 on amazon, not that much more considering you are paying $800

  • Anybody know if these would be eligible for any local warranty claims?

    • +5

Yes, i have had a few from Europe and MS never complained about it.

      • +1

So, it means MS offers International Warranty ??

        • +3

I guess so, it was purchased in Austria and i got it replaced here.

          @dosada:

The support agent probably didn't know the difference 😂

        • @LoopyLou:

          Was my first thought too

      • Sweet. I assume these would only be eligible to 12 months compared to local warranty. How long did you have it before putting in a claim?

        • To be honest i can't say for sure if it was within the first year after buying it. Was a few years back.

        • @dosada: All good. Still better then nothing. Thanks.

        • +1

at this market segment, a lot of these are used by corporates (we have hundreds at work) and corporates travel ….. so being good on warranty means you end up on the preffered supplier list….. limited warranty and make it hard for IT to support you can create problems and remove you from the preffered supplier list.

        • That should be correct! A representative from a chat confirmed that international stock would only have 12 months warranty.

        • I'm pretty certain that if you sell to our country, then you have to abide by our warranty laws.

        • @ONEMariachi: According to our country's laws, grey imports do not even need to offer any kind of warranty whatsoever.

THat is because of the newly released generation. Believe the price will drop further

        • @R4: not all items !!

    Ram killed the deal.

    • +11

This. Needs 8GB of RAM as the starting point.

      • +1

I think Manufacturers need to take a good hard look at themselves, putting out machines with 4Gb of ram now is no longer acceptable.

The number of programs that run in 64bit now makes it almost impossible to justify anything less than 8Gb

Even 32bit versions of some common programs seem to be having issues now more than ever despite having 8Gb ram (cough Microsoft)

It's almost like it's a forced change which i agree is for the better, but is leaving consumers confused and unfair.

        • +6

MS knows this. It's a complete business decision we still have models with 4gb ram. It's to make you consider buying the more stupidly expensive 8gb model. And at same time MS can market it and say "Surface from only $XXXX".

Surface never has been great value. $150 for a keyboard cover? You'll probably want a dock too because it only has 1 usb port and that's $250 for the official dock? And they have the nerve to call it a laptop replacement. Only towards EOL like this model would i consider getting one.

        • +1

Even 32bit versions of some common programs seem to be having issues now more than ever despite having 8Gb ram (cough Microsoft)

That's because 32 bit apps can't address more than 4GB of memory and in practice it's more like 3GB because they have to leave some memory for the OS and other apps. Once that addressable memory is filled up, the app slows to a crawl, which in turn brings the rest of your system to a crawl. Having 64GB or even 128GB RAM would not fix this.

Conclusion: use 64 bit apps, and get more RAM.

        • @bangmango: I know

We use the Toshiba dock which is much better with it has 6 usb3, 4 of them fast charging, the new monitors look like you can do away with the dock and daisy chain with perhaps an extra couple of usb ports to boot. We only got them on Friday so we haven't had a chance to play with them yet. I'll let you know if your interested.

I've used them for a couple of years at work and i'm not surprised they have been taken of lists although i love mine they do have a high failure rate.

even EOL i wouldn't take it with 4 Gb honestly seeing how infuriating it's become with certain programs as stated above

        • @lostn: Exactly my point, and why i wouldn't buy this with only 4gb of ram

I think your concluding to the wrong person

        • +1

I think Manufacturers need to take a good hard look at themselves, putting out machines with 4Gb of ram now is no longer acceptable.

          Except it is.

The number of programs that run in 64bit now makes it almost impossible to justify anything less than 8Gb

A load of nonsense. It makes no sense.

Even 32bit versions of some common programs seem to be having issues now more than ever despite having 8Gb ram (cough Microsoft)

I bet if you named any of these supposedly common programs they will run with 4GB RAM.

It's almost like it's a forced change which i agree is for the better, but is leaving consumers confused and unfair.

This argument makes no sense because of the preceding untrue things you outlined.

I own a 4GB Surface Pro. I doubt you do.

        • @Diji1:
I have a 4gb Surface Pro 3. With a bunch of tabs open in Chrome and a few other messaging apps (like zoom), Outlook and Office 2016 apps (one or two at at a time) and I end up running out of memory. I do daisy chain 2 x 2560x1440 monitors, which I guess chews us video memory, which comes out of general memory.

A shutdown of apps and a reboot solves things for a few days.

I had an 8gb Surface Pro 2 and never had any problems with memory. Same CPU chipset, etc as the SP3.

I would definitely spring for 8gb of ram, unless you only open a few apps at a time and have very few browser tabs open.

          ymmv.

        • @Diji1:

1 i do own a surface in fact i think i'm onto my third one and i love the machine hate the failure rate.

I've used them for a couple of years at work and i'm not surprised they have been taken of lists although i love mine they do have a high failure rate.
From above if you took the time to read you wouldn't have to make a fool of yourself

2 You want a program Excel as soon as the data got a little to much crash / 64 bit no issues

Documented Statement from our IT division, Excel seems to be less stable than it used to be, running 32 bit version multiple application failures have started to occur on simple spreadsheets.

Think what ever you want i honestly don't care!

much like i don't care if you or OP buys the 4gig I'm stating facts that have been documented by thousands of users and investigated i'll sleep fine

look at that answered without having to call your integrity into question!!!!!!!

I own a 4GB Surface Pro. I doubt you do.

      • What do you want to do with a SP?

I have a 4Gb SP3 and it is a superb device. I have no problems with internet access, MS Office, streaming, HD videos.

    • +1

Microsoft doesn't care what you want, it TELLS YOU WHAT YOU WANT.

  • +2

I've got one of these, and it's bent from daily use around the power button. Without a case these devices scratch really really easy also. Just a warning.

    • +3

And if you drop it and the screen cracks, its not worth replacing it. Better get that case!!

      • This is why I sold my 2 weeks after I bought them. So fragile not comfortable to use on the train.

      • I've dropped mine multiple times from a recumbrant cycle with a screen protector, the screen did not break.

    • Or you could get the "alternative branded" surface typecovers for about $40-50 AUD if you are wanting to save a bit more money :)

      • Where can I find such a cover? Would love to buy one

        • They are on ebay, not sure what store exactly but you can just sort from price low to high :)
          I think they range from $36 - >$300

Also try amazon; although shipping charges most likely kill the price.
If I come across one I'll link it here :D

      • Not worth it to save $50 imo when you can get genuine ones for ~$100 (if you don't mind the NFL branding).

All the 3rd party ones are BT which means patchy connections and another device to charge.
The type cover has perfect key travel and the trackpad is amongst the best I've used. The 3rd party ones are nowhere as good.

I think if you're purchasing a Surface Pro, you just have to factor the cost of the type cover in mind when deciding if you want to buy it. Microsoft by rights should include it like all the other manufacturers of similar devices (HP, Lenovo) but don't as it would jack up their already inflated prices. Marking it as optional is really a furphy.

        • Yeah I guess I see your point, if you are already spending that much on a Surface Pro, you might as well get a good keyboard for it!

  • Any 8gb ram on special?

  • Hey guys,

I am wondering does the 4G Ram is enough for Win10 and some document software?

    • Plenty. I had the Pro 3 (i3, 4GB RAM) and could have a few documents in Word/OneNote and a few tabs open (the CPU was more of a limiting factor, which isn't the case with the i5).

    • Sure if you don't go crazy with tabs and addons but what fun is that?

  • For about 290 more, I hopefully have protections under the acl. But I can't stop looking at this and thinking I should have waited. Bah.

  • I have a SP3 for work with 4gb ram and 128gb ssd. For most things its fine. As a personal computer, i think it would struggle. Office with win 8 etc is fine.

  • Too lazy to post a new deal buy you can get it slightly cheaper here: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Surface-Pro-Intel-Core/dp/B…. OP please update

    • Thanks updated

  • Will this be able to run two 2560 x 1440 monitors with 10 chrome tabs and 10 word/PDF documents at the same time? My surface pro 3 i5 8gb manages to but worried about the 4g ram
