Have the same office laptop. It fell from the chair and the base lid just flipped open. Absolutely crap build quality. Better to stick with a lenovo thinkpad, which are built to last

Agreed. Apart from those reasons I would simply not buy HP due to them being a consumer-hostile company. Look at the shenangians they pull with their printers and their "expiring" ink.. not to mention they've been known to whitelist which parts you can put in their laptops

If you spend a bit of time searching ebay you can get similarly/better specc'ed Thinkpads for roughly this price range
e.g this one is a bit more but has 32GB ram, better screen and better build:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/306100793596

It's not too hard to find others

    • What you posted is not a fair comparison
HP is a brand new item with 1 yr Manuf warranty
Your Lenovo shared is used with little/no warranty and different screen size

I agree with your advice that Lenovo is better than HP but that machine listed is hundreds more new, which matters to some

      • Fair point, though I was just showing a rough guide via a quick search of something equivalent (give or take a bit you can get something with better build quality). It's hard to find something new that sells the Ryzen 5000-series so of course trying to match those on ebay will predominantly be used ones. That said, one thing with Thinkpads is if something fails the parts are readily available and easy to swap (but yes, I understand that not everyone would have the appetite to do that)

Apparently they're now adding 15min wait time to phone support to drive people to online.

HP are the biggest douches to deal with for any warranty claims. Their build quality is hit and miss, and definitely aren't built to last. For me, Lenovo is no. 1

I only had to look for news articles less that a week old to see what anti-consumer dodginess HP is up to these days. Here you go, "HP deliberately adds 15 minutes waiting time for telephone support calls"

      https://www.theregister.com/2025/02/20/hp_deliberately_adds_…

      • Not at all surprised, looking into the controversies they've involved in over the years

1 USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate - USB C port can NOT be used for display or to charge the laptop
