Optus 4G Car Wifi - Huawei E8372 - $9 Coles Barracks (Brisbane, QLD)

90

Coles Barracks in Brisbane has the Optus Huawei E8372 for $9 as a clearance product. It's currently sold by Optus for $69 but as it's a clearance product the included data and sim has expired.

I've just tested and it's unlocked and works with 3G 900/2100MHz and 4G 700/1800/2300/2600MHz

It also comes with a Sim card inside but mine has an expiry date of 1 July 2016 so she also gave me a $2 starter sim included.

They've also got several more of the older 3G Pocket Hotspot also at $9.

Included in Modem + Mobile Phone Clearance @ Coles (North Lakes, QLD) (but not in title - so a valid deal) - handy reference of other models on sale.

This old 4G modem is the pick of models on clearance!

Unless you need to use Optus, Probably better to buy the Telstra 4GX USB WiFi modem for same price when on special, comes with 3GB data & can be unlocked free. Just lacks car charger ($14 next week)

Saw other $9 modems (eg MF65 wifi 3G modem) at a Brisbane Coles yesterday, so expect clearance may be available at other Coles. MF65 has sold far cheaper & included 2GB data.

The other modems are being cleared as are old, slow 3G models with expired data.

  • is this essentially a cigarette charger with usb port for the dongle?

    • Yes. Check comments in previous deals

If you can find stock it's the best model on clearance at Coles. But may not be available where you live as this is 2nd deal for these clearance modems at Brisbane Coles!

It's a USB powered 4G WiFi hotspot and USB dongle, comes with a 5V1A cigarette lighter charger too.

Any Brisbane dwelling folks feel like posting one down Melbournie way?

I've just gone down the coast for the night but I'll go back and look tomorrow and see if there are any left. If there are I'll get one and put it on eBay for $9 and $8.50 for Auspost shipping.

Tell me if you're still interested and I'll see what I can do tomorrow.

These no longer work with Telstra's 700mhz network due to changes on Telstra's side of things. Just a heads up (source: I have a few of these units)

    • Wondered why I hadn't picked up on sale in the past. Thanks for that reminder as I mainly use Telstra!

Picked up a $9 Telstra 4GX WiFi USB modem from Coles then with 3GB data - a much better deal. Only lacked the car charger which I have plenty of. Deal was again offered for $10 & $14 next week @Coles.

      https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Announcements/Changes…

If you're happy to update with a Telstra firmware you can use this

      • You can't cross flash can you? I thought there was a hardware limitation on the radios…

        • Could be right actually, personally I use my Telstra one with Optus since it was a cheaper data deal, but definitely check model number before flashing. Telstra are 608h.

        • @Xukinugo: The Optus ones aren't 608h they are 607

  • i want one!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Or could get the Telstra 4GX WiFi USB modem from Coles next week for $14 - has 3GB data instead of none, works with full Telstra network, available nation-wide, just lacks a basic car charger. That model has been $9 before.

  • Any people in NSW been able to find clearance stock??

Link to Whirlpool discussion & frequencies from 2 years ago.

  • These are compatible with TP-Link MR-3420 3G/4G Router. I have setup 2 of these routers with this Optus modem. Did this partly so would have better network security using MAC addresses. Optus modem/router doesn't have this feature.

  • Considering 9/10 people have a smart phone with hotspot capability & a charging cable in the car, what is the benefit of a device like this?

      that 1/10 person having internet

  • Balaclava in Melbourne still scans as $39 …..
