When Woolworths had the Patties Party pies on half price special recently they also had the sausage rolls and pasties selling at the same price per box. I'm hoping this will happen with the Coles special. We've got a party on next weekend so the timing is good.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.
Can someone who has tried the Dumplings comment on it? Any good? Thanks.

    • +3

I bought chicken and pork when they went on sale last time and both were really meh, I'm in Melbourne and the KFL stores sell much bigger varieties at cheaper prices and they taste good also.

    • +8

I've tried the Dumpling. Taste pretty bad. The 'Hong Kong Dim Sim Kitchen' one a few weeks back are alot better.

    • +4

do not recommend those dumplings at all.
chicken one didnt even taste like chicken

defs check out your local asian grocery. like mentioned KFL. theres a chicken and corn one. highly recommended and cheaper

    • +3

      They are crap mate

    • +4

      Worst dumplings EVER.

      • +2

        Worst dumplings EVER.

Is it really bad this comment makes me want to try them?

    • +1

Thanks everyone for your comments. Sounds like one to avoid :-)

  • Anyone with the Telstra Prepaid 4GX USB + WiFi? I'd like to know if it is able to be used without a computer. eg. pluggin into a wall charger to create the hotspot (that probably has a technical name, but ya know?).

    • +2

Don't own one, but Yes, see below
      But you've already read it😀

    • +3

Yes, I own one and you can use it without a PC. I just plug it into my phone charger and it works perfect.

      • can you power it using a power bank (not a wall charger)?

        • +1

I would think definately. 5v is 5v, unless amperage draw is an issue. These would likely be < 500ma so all powerbanks will drive them.

  • Telstra 4GX WiFi $9?

    • +2

      Seems to be this

      3GB over 28 days
Doesn't require pc to plug into to operate like most USB modems.
WiFi hotspot for up to 5 devices
No battery - plugs into USB outlet for power (plug pack, power bank, laptop, etc)

      Seems value for $9😯

      • edit :P
        Thanks for the reply.

        • +2

My phone's spellchecker did not like me writing (butt) plug & changed it to plan or plus - edited 😀

      • At that price, happy to put in a USB charger in my car and have this plugged in permanently. Hell! I think would be worth putting a USB power somewhere well hidden (glovebox, centre console, or boot) and never have to bother with it.

        • Yes, anywhere car metalwork does not affect reception.

Huawei promote it for in car use.

        • @Infidel: Last time I wired up a small external antenna in the front windshield lower centre. Worked well because the dongle could be placed in the glovebox. Also because I tapped into constant power, it meant that the hotspot was always on and working even when the engine was turned off. Of course, there was a switch for when the driver could kill the power if they didn't want it on all the time.

    • Can it be unlocked

      • +3

If it's the Huawei E8372 version, seemingly not cheaply. I'm still looking for a cheap option to unlock mine.
        http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2401078

        • Thanks. Was wondering if that is the model as forum is nearly 2 years old but still active. Has good specs & discussion.

Telstra state only supports 5 wifi devices & little other info.

          huawei info

        • @Infidel: At that price it seems it's much like cheap mono laser printers - you buy enough to meet you data needs and discard each once empty?

        • +1

          @Sven Nijs
          Yes, not worth unlocking.

But worth buying more than 1 just for the data. (Will be just getting 1 as a back up wireless modem - have lots of free or $1 data SIMs.)

I've still got a bin of unused Vodafone 3G+ USB modems bought just for the 3GB data SIM - in numerous Coles $9 deals years ago. Still have a few of those SIMs, now with 4GB included😯

But unlocked is far better - insert cheap SIM from any provider - eg current Kogan $1 14GB deal.

      • There must be someone unlocking these. They have been around for quite a while.

@Steptoe: listing ended :( oh for another to pop up soon…

        • @carwashhair:
Were you able to confirm the eqivelent Huawei model is E8372?
I managed to get one but also need to unlock

        • @King Tightarse:

          Yes it is

        • @kurnugi:
          Excellent, thanks

        • @Steptoe:

Received three codes from "guru7", but none of them unlocked mine. :(

        • @Colin2905:
          Oh really?
I got three codes too but in slightly strange format.
          Algo v1 Code: xxxxxxxx
          Algo v2 Code: xxxxxxxx
          Algo v3 Code: xxxxxxxx
I was going to email then to check.

        • @King Tightarse:
OK check my codes, also incorrect.
This guy's codes are no good

        • @King Tightarse:

Same format that I received. I tried each one in turn, but all I've got to show for it is that I've got seven attempts left. :(

The message with the codes also said, "if not work maybe you have a newer version, please open a return for a refund".

The one that I have is from batch SK017254, and the included SIM has an expiry date of 23/2/19. I'd be interested in others' unlocking experiences with these; whether or not the codes from "guru7" worked or not, and what your batch numbers and SIM expiry dates are.

        • @Colin2905:
This guy also sent me another message with a different Imei and another (presumably somebody else's) set of codes before I had time to check. He seems pretty useless

        • +1

I also had the same problem

          Three codes.. none worked..

Now have only 7 attempts left

Was also told to "open for a refund"

        • @kurnugi:
Right, we need a new option

        • +2

          @King Tightarse:

I unlocked mine for free using these guides

          http://freeunlockighuawei2015.blogspot.com.au/2015/10/how-to…

          http://msaunlock.blogspot.com.au/2015/10/how-to-unlock-huawe…

Not easy. But do-able. Basically you flash with old firmware and then unlock it using a free unlock code calculator or getting someone else to calculate the unlock code (for free) and then upgrade the firmware. The danger is bricking the device if you're not familiar with flashing firmware.

        • @finbar:
Hmm interesting thanks, I don't mind a challenge.
Not sure about the "getting someone else to calculate the unlock code (for free) " bit, but it sounds good

Ebay won't let me request a refund until tomorrow (24/3).

          @finbar:

Cheers mate.. I successfully unlocked it! You're a legend!

Now to get my ebay refund

        • @finbar: The process doesn't change the Web UI. It keeps the Telstra UI after the unlocking process, does it?

I read somewhere the change of firmware may affect the 3/4G band configuration, does it?

        • +1
        • @finbar:
I suppose the collection of firmware doesn't include the original firmware and Telstra WebUI in our modem.

I am more interested to know the effect of the unlocking process, i.e. does it change the WebUI? Does it change the IP address 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.8.1? Does it affect the 3/4G band configuration?

        • +1

          @finbar:

Unlocked. Thanks. The guides aren't great and you definitely need to know what you are doing…

        • @sylvester328:
Which firmware did you end up with?

        • @sylvester328:
          @King Tightarse:

Yeah you definitely need to know what you are doing lol.

It seems that changing the firmware (using the guide) doesn't change the Web UI. It stays the same.

But after its unlocked its possible to change the firmware to whichever one you want. Same goes for the Web UI too. Just pick which ever one you want.

I upgraded to Firmware 21.200.13.00.00 and Web UI 17.100.11.00.03

Afterwards I had to use 192.168.8.1 to access the Settings page instead of using m.home

Under Network settings I ticked the "Support LTE networks" box and it connected to the 4G network automatically.

It seems depending on which Firmware and Web UI you choose the layout and settings vary.

The original Firmware was 21.180.19.00.302. Not too sure if its available somewhere.

        • +1

          Got it unlocked too

        • @finbar:

Under Network settings I ticked the "Support LTE networks" box and it connected to the 4G network automatically.

I use 21.200.07.00.00 and don't have such option. Instead it has 'Preferred mode' with a drop down list of 'Auto', '2G only', '3G only' and '4G only'. Default is 'Auto' and I got 4G automatically. The network LED is cyan and if I choose '3G only', it turns blue.

By the way, activating the Telstra service is not necessary before the unlock. I just put in a vodafone SIM right from the start.

        • +1

@finbar: Legend mate. unlocked mine using guides by you. Whoever wrote these could have written a bit simpler but still i am happy as i was able to use vodafone sim in it and successfully worked. :)

          @King Tightarse:

          Did that guy refund you?

Ebay won't let me request a refund until tomorrow (24/3).

Without me initiating anything further, I received a refund e-mail from PayPal. Hasn't showed up on my card yet, but I guess it will eventually.

I'll have a crack at unlocking mine this weekend using the "finbar method". Perhaps we should all send him (or her?) 99p. :)

        • @Colin2905:

No need send me anything lol. I just shared some links lol.

Yeah the guides could be bit clearer but I'm just thankful some people wrote some guides and shared with us enabling us to unlock our modems.

        • @sylvester328:

Thanks for sharing. That sounds like a good working alternative firmware too

        • @King Tightarse:

I got three codes too but in slightly strange format.
          Algo v1 Code: xxxxxxxx
          Algo v2 Code: xxxxxxxx
          Algo v3 Code: xxxxxxxx
I was going to email then to check.

Did this guy just send you the result of this web site and charge you for that? :)
          https://huaweiunlockcalculator.com/v201-huawei-unlock-calcul…

        • @sylvester328:
          Haha maybe.
I cant check right now but the format looks the same

        • +1

          @finbar:

Afterwards I had to use 192.168.8.1 to access the Settings page instead of using m.home

You can change the IP address back to 192.168.1.1 if you want to (I did). It's under Settings > WLAN > DHCP.

So mine is now unlocked too, thanks to your very useful posts. At one point I thought I might have bricked it, but it was just a driver issue.

        • @Colin2905:

Thanks for that. I didn't realize it can be changed back to 192.168.1.1

And yeah for a while I thought mine was bricked too. But its good to know that many people are unlocking theirs now. But as others have said, proceed with caution.

        • -1

          @finbar:

Thanks for links, very long process, but it worked! No way I would have tried this without others here confirming it worked.I moved to same firmware and web UI. I feel a little concerned about what I have downloaded and potential for viruses, etc. Do you consider this a concern or am I being paranoid! For example, are the firmware trustworthy given not from Huawei?

        • +1

          @Gofast:

I'm personally not concerned about the potential for viruses.

You could ask others who know more than me about this tho. Try asking in the forums here or another forum like Whirlpool Forums maybe.

        • Not sure if I should be posting this here (i.e. whether it's soliciting or not), but would anyone want to exchange the sim from one I've purchased (with 3gb data ready to be activated) for your unlocking my E8372 - if it can be done remotely (i.e. without me sending you the actual USB)? Once it's unlocked I'll send you the Sim via post. PM me if anyone wants to take on this challenge!

        • +1

          @carwashhair:

It is possible to do with remotely; but if you want to do it yourself here are all the steps I did to get it working:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4567368/redir

        • @master131:
          Good step by step explanation😯

I've used a cracked version of DC-unlocker to unlock free another Telstra modem (ZTE MF91) - similar steps (but no flashing firmware) & sounded more complex than it really was.
May also work with this modem, but probably needs the firmware changed & Huawei code? Better stick with this proven method.

  • +1

Are the vodafone starter kits still expiry-free these days?

    • +2

      they are

  • -3

Just buy the $9 Telstra modem keep the sim and use the date and sell the modem on ebay, profit.

    • +2

And they're all sold out to Broden.

Previous Coles $9 USB modem deals have generally shown few available per store, restricted to 1 per person, no rainchecks. Quite a few disappointed.

      • Yup, never seem to get restocked during the sales either.
Need to remember on the first day

        • ⏰ Alarm already set to get there for opening time on Wednesday ⏰
          Lucky I only want 1.

Found local Coles restock Tuesday afternoon / evening, before sale.
In past sales, some stores had no stock at start of sale & did not restock.

In some states of the USA No. As long as you get consent from the person. I saw this on Youtube so it must be true.

Is Telstra Prepaid 4GX USB + WiFi 3GB a USB dongle that doubles as a wifi modem but must be powered by USB (i.e. it has no battery)?

    • Correct. I asked this earlier if you missed it.

  • Where's the catalouge?
Can someone link me to a PDF thanks…

  • What's the best price anybody has seen for Ferrero rochers per 100 g

    • Not sure about the per 100g, but it is $6.30 for box of 16, or $11 for box of 30.

  • Went to Coles during lunchtime and bought the Telstra 4GX pack.. not sure what to do with it? How to unclock and use with Kogan or other sim?

  • Arrived after 11am & Telstra USB modem was sold out - likely for rest week.

Telstra supply these to Coles stores.
In my area (Carindale, Brisbane), stores were supplied with only 2 each last night for catalogue sale!😠

Got staff to ring a less busy store & got the last of 2 supplied.

    • +1

It's amazing that Coles can get away with this week after week. When advertising a special there is a requirement for "a reasonable number" of stock to be available IE more than tbe one or two units tbey consistently have.
It's covered here under "bait advertising"
"Bait advertising is the illegal practice of advertising specific prices (usually special ‘sale’ prices) on goods that are not available or are available only in very limited quantities (where this limit is not clearly and specifically disclosed).""
      https://www.accc.gov.au/business/advertising-promoting-your-…

      • Staff are going to cop the criticism.

Was told about a heavily advertised sauce that was supplied at so low a level it was gone almost immediately.

Telstra supply these to Coles. Coles say it's outside their control. But the promotion is negotiated between Coles & the supplier. Happens in this type of deal.

        • I reckon the ACCC would take the approach that if Coles advertised it, then Coles needs to be able to supply it.
If it was occasionally it would be OK, but it's pretty near every time. Two units per store I would be a pretty clear case of bait advertising as per above.
I suppose it never gets tested because it's only a small value item

          @King Tightarse:
People didn't expect the Coles fresh baked bread deception to result in such a high penalty.

Most would rather grumble than lodge a complaint. But this is worthy of a complaint. I've got too much on to take on Coles, in preparation for another trip os.

        But really - 2 per store😠
        I'm lucky to find the 1 I got😯

      • Nothing new there. My local Coles (and the not so local one's in my area) seem to be chronically out of stock on special items. And I've said it before but getting a raincheck is like asking to kill their mother's. The look of shock and horror!
