Show us a better deal then. Not really a reason to neg it.

14 month balance transfer with no balance transfer fee and $100 gift card. You don't get this credit card to keep it, you get it for 0% interest

  • Transferred $15k to this card as a BT. Saved me about $650 in interest savings a year, not to mention a free $100 gift card to boot. Thanks :)

    • What date did you initially apply?
I put my online app in the day I posted this deal, 6/4, I'm still waiting for approval, guess that's what happens when you OzB a deal, get put in a long list somewhere and wait (lol).

Got a call yesterday for a copy of drivers licence, done, see how long that takes to process, maybe late next week.

I applied the same day and just got an SMS approval today. I had this card previously so maybe didn't need to go through the extra ID check. Doesn't say what limit I was approved for though.

        • Are you able to avail Balance Transfer even if you had this card before?

        • @amsaini15:

I'm still waiting to receive my confirmation letter and card but I'll let you know if the balance transfer was accepted. I'm hoping so. I got an email on Friday to telling me to activate it so I'll call them Monday I feel it doesn't arrive.

        • @rodb:
That would be good if you can have BT still. Please let us know.
How long ago you had this card before (1 yr? 2 yrs?)?

        • +1

@amsaini15: I had the card last year - from about Jan 16 to nov 16 before cancelling. I've received my new card now with the credit limit I asked for but no confirmation about the BT. I'm assuming it will go through in the next few days though.

        • @rodb:

That would be good. I would probably try the same after I cancel card in 12 months :)

        • @amsaini15: just confirming the balance transfer went through - all good! :)

        • @rodb:

          Awesome. Thanks for the update

      • Applied April 7 (also sent them my payslip)
        Approved April 11
        Card received April 13

The customer service team was very helpful, give them a ring.

I received another call yesterday, confirming received D/L sent on 14th, asked about confirmation of income which I'd already done during a call on the 10th.

Nearly 3 weeks now, third time I've been told its being forwarded to approval dept.

        • Same here. Their call centre is awful.

        • @smoke87:

Three and a half weeks after applying with no correspondence and multiple attempts to provide them documents, they declined my application and didn't bother to reach out to tell me. Nor will they tell me why. Guess they ran out of $100 gift cards?

    • did you have to do anything apart from activate the card to get the BT to complete?

      • For me it was just activating the card. BT happened automatically a couple of days later. Also got the egift card yesterday after a $2 purchase.

        • Woohoo free $100 for me too

  • Has anyone ever tried to use the BT offers to put another card into Credit (positive balance)?

If yes, were you successful, and were you then able to withdraw the positive amount from the CC card to another account?

I'm asking cause I am interested in performing a BT and using the funds to reduce my home loan debt, without incurring a BT fee (e.g. Citibank BT 1.5% fee).

    Thanks :)

They very likely wont let you do that. I have also heard that withdrawing money from a credit card (even if it is positive balance to you) could be considered a cash advance, and get a cash advance fee.

Unfortunately, they make these deals in such a way that you cant be too clever and game them so much.

Can confirm that CBA allow your card to go into positive in this way, but as said be careful if trying to withdraw that money and having it treated as a cash advance. What I do is just use it for my normal spend and put that money away in another account to pay off the card when it is due at the end of the BT period.

        • Ok thanks.

When I am stating "withdraw" I actually mean to transfer the money to an account with the same bank.
Withdraw was possibly a wrong term used here by me.

          Is that what you did?

        • @ahara: you'd have to check your bank - doubt they have it an FAQ either. what i do is leave the credit on the account and just spend it. depending on how much it is and how much you spend per month it might take a short or long amount of time. We are doing a renovation though so a lot of money going out!

        • @rodb: oh and as i spend, i put money aside for when i need to pay it all back in 12/14 months.

I did this 15K bt to my NAB CC, NAB transferred to my main account no fees all though the staff member kept asking 'how did it end up here' felt like saying 'whats it to you bro'. Just have to ring and ask them to do it otherwise they charge cash advance fee even though it's your own money. So 15K will sit in offset for 11 months then I'll pay it off and close the card.

      • Exactly that was the idea behind all this trouble I was having too. Citibank charges the BT fee now and other banks don't offer a 'cheque to self' so I may need to get creative.

        Thanks for sharing your experience.

  • Dealing with the call centre is awful. I've had 5 calls now with them where their story changes. First it was documents not provided despite email confirmation, then they complained my birth date was incorrect despite them quoting the birthdate of my missus, another call today asking for documents they had twice already confirmed receipt of. Don't get me started on their manuerisms…

  • Question for the credit card savvy, if I balance transfer to this card say $9k then I also make purchases on this new card do I then start accruing interest on the whole BT amount or just that purchase? I'm hoping the balance transfer amount is protected for the 14 month advertised period even if other purchases are made.

Also when doing a balance transfer do you have to transfer off the whole balance of an existing credit card or you can nominate how much to transfer and leave some?

    • Well to answer my own question firstly the BT amount is preserved so other transactions do not alter the 0% on the transfer amount.

And secondly you can nominate how much you want to transfer from the other card, doesn't have to be the whole amount.

    Hi All,

After 4 weeks waiting for a response after posting this deal I got declined.

If you also had issues however have a home loan package with Suncorp I've just posted an alternate 18 month deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/306827

    Cheers!

    • Harsh! thanks for posting the deal though.

Can anyone advise why in the application it asks for your mothers maiden name? No idea what that has to do with anyone's ability to repay a credit card

    • Its used as part of security, when you/they call its one of the questions they ask, like date of birth, address etc

  • Has anyone gotten their gift card? How did they get it, did they get sent one or was it electronic?

  • Received electronic gift card 14/6/17, made purchase on 25/5/17
