0% p.a. for 18 Months on Balance Transfers with Suncorp Clear Options Platinum Credit Card (Conditions Apply) $169 Annual Fee

10

Hi All,

Note: With a $169pa annual fee this card wont be the best option for most, however if you have a home loan with them combined with the "Home Package Plus" option (which I got free for life of loan deal) the fee is waved.

As I do all my banking with Suncorp (home loan, CC etc) I had originally seen a deal with them for "12" months BT, asked if I could have it added to my current card however as is typical was told its only available to new customers, instead offering me only "6" months.

After many hours of searching I found and posted this deal with Woolworths 5 weeks ago - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/301023
Perhaps because I posted it before my own application was processed, other Oz-bargain hunters were perhaps able to jump the Que on me (lol), getting an answer with-in a week or so, whereby I waited a further 4 weeks to eventually get declined.

Back to the drawing board last Thursday I noticed this "18" month offer, called them and again was only offered 6mths, however for some reason this time (perhaps more efficient customer services rep) I was offered the option to apply for a new "additional" card application.

So the app and all required docs were submitted last Friday, I was concerned the recent decline would have some impact, however yesterday afternoon I get home from work and out-of-the-blue, no email/sms notification etc, I was very surprised/excited to find my new card in the letterbox.

Obviously check out full details on their site - https://www.suncorp.com.au/banking/credit-cards/platinum.htm…

Trust it helps some of you.

Cheers!

  • Citibank have 2 years balance transfer with 2% transfer fee, no annual fee.

    • Yep, plus annual fees ($49 first year then $149), perhaps suitable for some - https://www.citibank.com.au/cards/search/triplepage.htm?plat…

However in my case and any others with the suncorp home package plus option, obviously save on the 2% and annual fees.

Also, for those unaware, Citibank underwrites Suncorp.

    • Also, depending how much the BT amount is, the 2% plus $49 maybe higher than the SC $169pa fee.
(In my case the 2% on BT would have been ~$160, + $49 = $209)

I also got rejected from Woolsworth.. if u did get rejected, applying for new one will most likely to get rejected. I was sent a letter by woolies indicating conditionally approved pending 100 points identification. When I did the identification check throughout Australia post. Another letter came indicating I was rejected.

    • What you've typed looks like a great deal, however the one linked says "12" months?
Did a search on finder, can't see an 18 month one? There's a couple of 16mth, but has 2%

      • Oh ya Sorry - Its actually 12 months, but once the card is approved, you could call ANZ and request for a max of 18 months…

  • Hi OP can you please confirm that they're not charging you the $169p.a. card fee due to being an existing customer.

    • Not sure how I could do that other than what I've stated above?

I have their "Home Package Plus" option which means I don't pay any F&C's on any accounts I hold with them, only pay interest.

      https://www.suncorp.com.au/banking/loans/home-loans/package-…

      • Yep, good point, I should've read it more thoroughly. It's linked to the Home Package Plus. Better check whether I have the Home Package Plus.

        • My broker sorted the initial loan, package etc out for me a couple of years back so not exactly sure what was involved to set it up, however I just noticed half way down the webpage it has "OPTIONAL", then amongst other inclusions;
          Credit Cards
Pay no annual fee and no additional cardholder fee on new Suncorp Bank Platinum, Gold or Standard Credit Cards for as long as you remain a Home Package Plus customer.
