  • Would you put that the brand is Imation in your title?

  • what was the deal 2mths ago?

    • spindle of 50 TDK dvd-r for $10 or something if I recall it correctly

  • +1

    Seems like a good deal.

  • Nothing wrong with 100 DVDs for $22 bukz !!! :-)

  • domayne had in their catalogue on monday 50 dvd's for $9

  • Whats Imation's quality like? Similiar to TDK?

    • +2

Awful. It doesnt take long for the top to discolour and get a yellowish tint, and soon after the disc is unreadable in a couple months time. Fine for casual burning but avoid for backups.

      • Cheers. Thought they were higher grade than that

    • +1

I've never had an Imation disc last more than 2 months. They are terrible, not worth the price if you're given them for free. I burnt five batches of photos to take to a friend's house and every single disc had corrupted files after only a few weeks, they were completely unreadable after a month.

  • Personally I don't think there's anything great about this deal. Imation are usually sub-standard discs in terms of quality. They're good if you want to store something not too critical but don't be surprised if your discs start getting non-recoverable errors after a few months. You can get 100 Ritek DVD-R from MSY for $22, and you get a bonus dual layer DVD disc also. These wouldn't be any worse than Imation.

    • Actually I believe Imation discs are made by Ritek, so much the same deal

why would someone have given my contribution to this thread a negative vote? I don't understand, sorry only new…

        • I don't see any votes on your comments. You may be looking at the comment below (Kranbone's comment)?

          • +1

@neil: I was talking about my original comment (the one that I responded to)…
I've read more into this in forums and it seems random negative votes are common?

            • @gvinar: I still don't see the negative vote. If you click on the votes link next to report, it says:

              Comment Votes
              No vote on this comment.

Can you show me a screenshot?

EDIT: OK, I see it now. My fault.

              • @neil: Neil can you reveal which goose is going around negging posts without valid reasons? We could name and shame the offender to prevent misuse of the system.

                • @Kranbone: Only Scotty can see the identities of neg votes on comments. I'll raise the issue with him so perhaps mods can have have access. We used to have the neg voting identities open to everyone but I believe (I could be wrong) it caused lots of issues between users (e.g. retaliatory votes, arguments, and loads more reports).

                  • @neil: Personally I'd rather leave it open so we can know who negs valid posts. If they are "unmasked" in the first place it would stop most of the people who are cowards and hide behind the anominity.

                    • +2

@Kranbone: Or maybe just have a positive vote available. Comments can be used to disagree with explanation (More friendly/clear perhaps) - One for the forums…

        • +1

same, there is some idiot on ozbargain giving out negative votes needlessly. I prefer it when users were shown who gave the negative vote on a post. In any case I appreciate your input. Try not to let the one idiot prevent you trying to give useful information :D

  • The brand is okay and I've been able to burn fairly well. I don't think you can compare it to the higher end brands like TY but it's decent.

Nice price and a bargain. I am actually after CD-R myself, so if anyone finds any cheap, post :D

  • Can someone please do a media scan after they buy a spindle? Just curious about the media code.

  • I brought the same pack of these from the post office last week for $19.95….

  • +1

I bought cheaper dvds and started getting lots of fails.

After that, I switched to Verbatim and I have had 0 problems. Verbatim all the way.

Also, I usually buy Verbatim for around this price on sales ;)

  • which is better?

    +R or -R

    • -R

    • -R is likely to be compatible with more equipment, but +R has a slight edge in tracking accuracy. In practice both advantages are very small.

    • +R - I've never found a player that won't play +R, but I've found a few that have hiccups with -R even with passable burn quality. (CMC MAG AM3 on an NEC player)

The original 'compatibility' reports were in the old days when the +R format had less refined burn strategies (and therefore poorer burn quality).

In general lack of playability is due to disc condition and burn quality, rather than -R or +R.

Anyway, these Imation discs are usually the same CMC MAG AM3 as you get with TDK, LG etc. Better than the no-brands (don't buy Laser etc!), but inferior to Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden.

  • Hope these are 16x and not just 8x for clearance!

    • I think the 8x variety died out a few years ago. They wouldn't be selling 3+ years old stock

    • They are 16x speed

      • well i bought 2 packs and disappointed they are not printable, but for $22, not a bad price, i normally get LG ones from the markets, hope these dont fail me.
