This card looks super similar to some of the Westpac cards?

$79 annual fee and 18% interest is a deal breaker IMO (granted, nearly all "rewards" credit cards are like this, you really have to spend big (and make repayments in time) for it to be beneficial, there's really no point getting it for only small purchases as the higher annual fee/interest rate outweighs any possible benefit you may obtain from earning "points"

    • this is the reason i never go for any platinum card, even though they look shiny:_) you can use amex card, the one called bluesky charges nothing and the points never expire. truely, some shops do charge extra for amex. however there are still more shops not.

"$79 annual fee and 18% interest is a deal breaker"
The other deal breaker for me is that it is Westpac (After what they did with home loan rates, can't be trusted)

    • Westpac/StGeorge, same thing.

Yes Westpac owns StGeorge, so both are the same when hitting you with fees. This card is mainly good for the high spender. Its also good that the card type is visa. many others have counterpart Amex cards linked however many stores dont accept Amex. Its no good for low spenders since it has an annual fee. Some Amex cards like the blue sky card etc, Coles Group Source MasterCard and the GO m/c rewards are better since they all don't have an annual fee and come with a rewards program. The woolworths everyday card has no annual fee for the first year and you can link it to a Free Qantas Frequent Flyer Rewards Program too. Just call The woolworths Hsbc team after 1 year and request they waive the annual fee or cancel it.

    This is kinda crap.
The best card is the Citibank VISA card with $1 = 1.25QFF points, unless you go on a platinum card from other banks.

But most of the time they are ony on AMEX and amex always charges a % for anything purcahsed.

Ever dealt with Citibank customer service? Good luck.

Yes I have. They are very courteous and quite good. Always answered my queries very well.

        • Agreed. Have always had a pleasant experience with Citibank, other than they always used to try to sell you something at the end of the call but they haven't been doing that in recently.

        • You must have been lucky. I have found them, on numerous occasions, to be morons.

          • @YesPleaseThankYou: I'm fairly forgiving of customer service, and I understand why the call centres are now situated overseas to cut costs. But Citibank's staff could easily be replaced by a recorded message as they simply don't know anything more than what is on their computer screen. I had a genuine problem with my Citibank card (they had messed up hugely) and it was distressing to find I could simply not get a straight answer from anyone, including conflicting and simply wrong statements from the staff.

To hear one staff member after another tell me that the previous guy/girl was wrong, in a big chain, was something I've never experienced before.

This is just my experience - Citibank seem fine but if you have a genuine problem that needs fixing, that's where you're going to come unstuck.

  • 0.99% p.a for 6 months on balance transfers is superb! : )

    • And currently offered on other Westpac cards.

  • You may be mistaken with the rates on the Westpac cards. Here's a nice little Westpac comparison to help you out: http://bit.ly/bRdWQd
