$29.90 ($5/Month) for 6 Months of Amaysim Unlimited 2GB – Exclusive to TPG Customers

2730
SWITCH

MOD: This has been received from Amaysim (2 Dec 2015):

amaysim updated the redemption details of this offer last week so that once a user puts this code into the funnel, the success message clearly states that this offer is only valid if redeemed by someone bringing a TPG number to amaysim… If new customers bring a non TPG number to amaysim and claim this SWITCH offer they do risk the promo not being honoured, as the user will have breached the terms and conditions of the offer.

Therefore it is a targeted offer for customers of TPG mobile. There is no guarantee that promotion will be honoured.

      • OK, so that suggests if you choose prepaid that you can't be charged more if you go over the 2GB (unless you buy a data pack).

Why are people suggesting to change from CC to Bpay? Just so there are no accidental CC debits?

        • +1

Correct, if you don't want to risk any unexpected additional costs always change your payment method to Bpay once your account is set up, just to be safe.

    • i was wondering this too ? im confused.

Also whats their usage app like for android , anyone use it ?

  • what happens if you use up the 2gb do they charge u if you go over automatically or the data stops until next bill cycle?

    • change billing from CC to Bpay so it stops, but you can buy more

  • could i get a sim and wait near 30 days to activate as my current provider requires 30 days notice to leave ?

    • yes

      • What's the activation period?
If I buy this on the 29/11, can I wait 2 weeks to activate it to.maximise my current month on my current service.
Havnt been able to get a clear answer on the online chat…..
They all say it can be activated immediately, but I want to wait maximum time.

  • EC thanks for the deal. Who do they use to deliver the SIM?

    • Your welcome

Australia post for regular delivery, A courier (not sure which one) for next day delivery

      • Thanks. I signed up last night and my message said I would receive the SIM today, so probably a courier in that case.

      • Free 3-hour delivery in Melbourne CBD. :)

      • Yeap, Aust post regular delivery, didn't have to sign for parcel which was helpful.

    • They allegedly sent my new sim nine days ago and it still hasn't shown up in perth. My first one from them turned up okay, but did take a lonnnng time.

  • Thanks easternculture, I've ported my 2 kids numbers over using your referral link, win win! Thanks

EDIT: Just got my 2 sims from the courier - wow, under an hour from ordering online!

  • Is it recommended to switch away from Vaya at the end of the month or any time is OK? Do they just charge for the part of the month?

    • My wife is with Vaya and I can't find that info either.

Also, don't forget you might have made a prepayment of $20 that they keep in case you default on a payment.

    • +1

      the sooner the better.
once ported, don't forget to tell them and claim back your $20

      • You also pay one month in advance, in addition to the current month.

So it's really $20 deposit + one month of fee + one month (pro-rata'd).

    • +1

just got off phone with Vaya rep - they said they don't need advance notice to port a number out, and I can do it at anytime, however the billing cycle starts on the first of each month therefore ideally get ported out before then.

  • Thanks EC, great deal for the folks.

  • Can one active the sim from overseas? England…

    • sorry, activate the sim from overseas?

    • I am not familiar with the porting process, can someone please advise. Can it be done online (Web)?

      • Yes, you can activate once you receive your sim.

  • Does Amaysim provide Visual Voicemail for iPhones?

I believe Optus doesn't and I am not sure who is responsible for this functionality - I am guessing it may be the actual provider.

    • Answering my own question for others - I believe they do NOT provide Visual Voicemail for iPhones.

This was to be a deal killer for me but I guess I have to live without it as this is such a good deal.

  • It'd be nice if I could actually get Optus reception in my house. I get about 45% 4G signal via both Telstra and Vodafone but can't even get 3G from Optus :(

    • Do you know if Optus have a tower nearby?

Many newer Optus towers are running on 700mhz (B28) and many phones don't cover that frequency.

      You can check here http://oztowers.com/Home/Query

  • +1

so i started the process to move my number to amaysim
after being told on livechat this deal only applies to tpg customers I went and did it anyway (from spintel) and it went through at $29.90 for 6 months.
So, either their staff aren't being told the right info about this promo or theres a glitch in their system and it allows ports from anywhere for the cheap price not just tpg.
If they were intending this to be a tpg port promo only they're in for a shock with the numbers that will sign up.

    Thanks OP.

  • Just switched from Telechoice $20 plan using your referral, EC. Thanks for the great deal.

  • can you buy it by dec 30th and activate the sim after say in couple months down the track and still get this deal? can anyone confirm that non tpg customers porting over will in fact also get 6 months for $29.95 ?

    • +1

i was told tpg only but i went through the process and was charged 6 months for $29.95 coming from spintel.

      • Used an Ing debitcard with $30 in it. Authoristion for $29.90 is showing at Ing, Have ported a 1m expired vf prepaid sim#. I aint got buckleys' I guess of getting this deal.

  • Transferred from having signed up to TPG just 2 days ago.

Could use my activated SIM. Hope my experience with Amaysim is better.

  • EC thanks for this deal…. fantastic !!

  • +1

Thanks easternculture. I used your referral code. You should never have to pay for your phone calls again with all the referral credit you get from this deal.

  • +1

Ec, what do you do with all referral credit .

    • Would be good if you could buy hardware with it. :)

  • Do I absolutely have to port a number or can I get a new number with them? New customer etc.

    • Use a $2 sim(or 10c one of you can find one on special) and port in from that.

  • I can't see how to use the referral link.

It comes up with a splash page telling me I can get $10 credit, but there is no indication on any of the sign up pages that the referral is active (same URL as before), nor is there a click through for a referral signup rather than regular.

Any way to verify it actually will apply a credit, other than wait and see?

Good enough deal without the $10 credit, but I'd like to make sure I get maximum value (and give some benefit to a fellow ozbargainer).

  • Does anyone think there is a pattern here:

$10 per month for Unlimited 5GB for 3 months

$5 per month for Unlimited 2GB for 6 months

I would like to bet there's going to be:

$2.50 per month for Unlimited 1G for 12 months

    Or perhaps even $1?

    • But it's $3.33 (recurring) per month for Unlimited 5GB for 3 months.

      • Ok, then the price is going up :-(

  • Sorry, I am confused by the porting and activation process.

I seem to have to give them the authority to port immediately (from Telstra in three hours).

But then I can choose not to activate for a month?

Does the activation require some online (Web) process or just turning the phone on with the sim installed etc?

    Any help most appreciated.

    • Just saw this:

"Transfer times: Telstra - Average up to 3 hours. The mobile number transfer process will begin once you log into My amaysim and start the transfer process."

So it won't start automatically on signing up for the deal. But will it start when I just log into My Amaysim or do I need to actually take an action and start the transfer?

      • Yes you need to action your transfer from amaysim if you want to port in your number from Telstra to Amaysim.

  • isnt this better: "Get unlimited standard calls and SMS plus 2GB, all in Oz, for under $30 a month. Order your SIM online by 30 November and use the code 3MONTHS to get your first three months for only $10. "
    ref https://www.amaysim.com.au/mobile-plans/unlimited-2gb?cid=di…

  • I have a Telstra data-only nano-sim for an iPad (no data left long ago, it was just for a holiday trip).

It has a mobile phone number associated with that and could receive calls, send SMS etc.

Would it be ok to port that number?

    Thanks, Ashley.

  • I have just received this from Amaysim, which requires us to update this post with the following information:

    • Offer is exclusively for those bringing an active TPG mobile number to amaysim. See the promo landing page at https://www.amaysim.com.au/mobile-plans/tpg for more info.

    • Those bringing a number to amaysim from a provider other than TPG are breaching the Terms and Conditions of the offer and are excluded from the offer.

    • This promo (Code: SWITCH) excludes affiliate commissions, i.e. won't work with cashback sites

Now for those who have ported from other providers, have already paid and some have already received SIM — I am not sure what is happening here when Amaysim stated that "breaching the Terms and Conditions of the offer and are excluded from the offer". We shall wait and see. As SWITCH is their special promo code as well I am not sure whether referral would work either.

    • +1

Uhh.. We weren't aware that it was part of a TPG deal.

Deal was very misleading then. "All you have to do is port any number and you will get the deal"

Paid for the SIM already. Hoping for the best.

      • Well. When EC first posted he did write that it's Exclusive to TPG Customers. See the revision log. Not sure why he changed it. It works for any mobile number as Amaysim might not have updated their coupon code system to set up all the conditions. They should have added in their system that SWITCH only works if ported from TPG.

        • +2

Yes, Amaysim should've also made it clear that the SWITCH coupon code is exclusive to TPG customers.

        • -1

initially that's what i thought. Then i tested it via checkout on a non-porting order and the message i got that promo code requires porting a number (didnt specify TPG). I the tested it on a vodafone number and promo code applied (again not specifying it was for TPG customers)

I think they will honor it for people who signed up yesterday and today, although im not sure if they can detect the provider if you initiate the porting online.

    • +7

can u msg them and request a special exemption or code for ozbargain customers? i mean that would generate lots of good will which can only be a win-win situation

    • what an idiotic system they have if the code applies to any network when its only applicable to tpg.
when you pick the current provider if its not tpg it should not apply.
ive got an invoice for $29.90 for 6 months im going to fight hard to ensure they have to honour it

      • +1

Me too. it says on the invoice. It also mentions nothing about TPG anywhere.

    • I have already received SIM and started my port. :S

      • let us know what happens with the port.

there was no mention of tpg anywhere on their site during the signup process. Poor form . TIO?

  • awww man, so what happens to those who already successfully signed up to this offer? do we get refunded? or will they still honour the original deal as for tpg customers porting over?

  • Great that I didn't activate my Optus SIM yet :D!

    EDIT:

Or not so great now that I've read above …

  • +3

Yeah, but what if you are an amaysim customer, port out to TPG and then port back in to Amaysim? would this work?

    • +1

I like how you think. Applies to any other provider. Would be a nuisance to sign up and port out an extra time within the next month.

    • How would we actually do this please?

Would we have to pay for TPG service? At least prepaid?

      • I'm not really sure of this would work but according to TPG's website, the minimum no lock-in contract plan is $19 and, I believe, it includes the sim card… so , I would assume that if you buy this plan and port out from amaysim to tpg you can use their 1.3Gb for a month and then port back into amaysim, according to the offer you have until 30/dec to activate

  • +1

amaysim might want to start giving it's current customers a reason to stay as seeing all these deals is very shitty.

  • +4

My wife just told me she received a call from amaysim stating she ported from yatango and is not eligible for the offer and has a choice of their other usual prices. When asked if she can use the other codes previously posted they denied. Pretty poor.

  • lucky i held off optus is a crap network for coverage out bush. seems their new offer " Order your SIM online by 30 November and use the code 3MONTHS to get your first three months for only $10. " is better and works out cheaper anyway? can anyone confirm its $10 for 3 months total usage?

  • Hi Guys,

I just saw the EDIT 2 and it says that only TPG customers can sign up, I signed up and it worked, does it mean that Amaysim may cancel my offer since its not a TPG number but a VAYA number im porting ?

    • I signed up this afternoon as well. and just contacted them through online Chat. it's confirmed, that it's TPG number only. So I had to ask them to cancel my order and refund my cc payment.

      • Lucky you. I have already pushed my port through, too late to ask for refund now i guess. ?

      • Thanks Spiritsky, I have emailed them and asked to cancel, Damn i cant beleive we cant get this offer.

  • Poor system and poor response from amaysim. I haven't received any call yet however if they are not honoring this coupon I will stay on my current telechoice $20 plan which does not exist anymore and ask for refund.

  • Just ordered the sim for my Mum.

She has an iPhone 4 on Optus…currently paying $40 or something stupid. It's paid off (past the original contract) - anything I need to keep in mind? I won't need to get it unlocked?

edit: oh right..the edits…what a waste of time. Oh well.

  • +1

    I'm not with TPG. Damn!

    • Port to TPG and port to Amaysim?

      • +1

i think TPG charges some startup fees to port in, its not like other operators, they want to get a bite off you before you start, same for Vaya, 20 $ deposit…. i dont know for what.

        • Yeah good call. TPG first month is $30. So at $60 this deal would be $10/month to port to TPG then to Amaysim.

I feel sorry for the chaps who ported from non-TPG to take advantage of this deal.

        • @malouphix: Wouldn't you use that first month of TPG, and then activate the Amaysim SIM after that? $60 for 7 months = $8.60/per month

        • @achyd1: Nice.

  • I just got my TPG vodafone sim so will assess and see if it's worth me switching.

TPG offering $16.99 - $550 'value' - 1.5GB data per month. First two months free.

    • Where? I thought its $400 value and 1.3GB data.

      • Some customers have gotten different offers from TPG. Mine is like Christop86's.

    • Isn't TPG on the vodafone network now?
      - I have an Optus locked phone so amaysim works well for me.

  • when does this expire?

  • Anyone know, can we use a recently retired vodafone prepaid sim(expired a month ago), to port to a new deal like this.

  • I am trying to bring a TPG PAYG plan over, and it doesn't work. Keeps telling me I took more than 10 minutes at checkout (When I didn't) and ran into an error.

    • +1

      Try in a private browser.

      • Sorry, but what is a private browser?

        • +2

It opens a new window that is isolated from existing sessions/cache/cookies/etc. Ctrl+Shift+P in Firefox, Ctrl+Shift+N in Chrome.

        • +1

@jenna12: Your trick worked. Thank you jenna!

        • +1

          You're welcome :)

  • +1

TPG is not going to refund my top up prepayment credit are they? And they will charge me $11 porting fee too right? Bastards. I wasn't charged a fee by Optus when I ported to TPG.

    • Yeah, you kinda got to accept this at the start with tpg.
Tpg have been great in my experience, so not going to leave.

      • When they raised the top up threshhold from $5 to $10, they literally stole an extra $5 from every customer, since it went from a minimum $5.01 that you will never get back to a minimum of $10.01 that you will never get back.

This is theft, pure and simple.

If they wanted to run an honest business without ripping people off, they should just do everything post paid like amaysim does.

        • Really it is shody business, it should be on new accounts only.
But as they're a budget provider, they got to be practical I guess.

        • +2

@Bargitrage: I don't find them really all that budget to be honest. Better deals than TPG can be found elsewhere.

Maybe on the old plans that no longer exist, yeah. But I'm not that impressed with what they offer now, or not long ago.
