    Good way to harvest ID'S
    ;)

    • +3

They’re not the only ones !

    • +2

I'm sure they already leaked enough

    • Not worse than Apple. They know your every step when locked into their chamber. Any connection, payment, location, device, communication, etc. is registered into their metadata. No wonder they have greater monopoly than most countries in the world & hard to get out :( someone mentions N. Korea ;)

      • +1

Not quite. And also the only company yet to have a leak, or sell your data.

Had you said Google, Samsung et all, then yeah, they harvest and sell your data and have had leaks of it too.

Also pending your use, private relay and other services further limits what and how much they capture and track.

Not advocating for either, but you picked on only one, and that one is the least worst of a much larger pile. Could they, will they, are they secretly, all good valid questions, but in essence, today, Apple is actually the most privacy based device company.

      IDs*

    • and leak them after

  • +1

Seven days ? What does this become after that ? Redundant ?

    • +1

Exactly. Not worth giving Floptus more data to leak for a pitiful 7 days

      • +10

You know that it won’t be them in the next data leak, don’t you ??
It will be a different company altogether, possibly the ones you’re with now !! 😜

        • -4

Or one that has Singh in the data

  • +4

    Ooooh, great for slim slutting.

    • +3

      You dirty (sim)slut!

    • +1

Is a SIM slut walk this year?

    • Seven days ?

      • +4

        that's one free burrito

      • More as an in-between 2 services such as Boost yearly plans that go on sale for new customers.

  • +2

I cant see anywhere in the app to do this

    • +1

I just downloaded the app now and there's a banner to click on the first screen where you can login or signup.

    • +1

      Only applies to NEW customers

So when you download the app it says
      1. Login
      Or
      2.New to Optus?
Followed by try for free 7days etc.

      • +1

Not just new phone customers either. I have Optus internet and looks like I'm not eligible.

Wasn't going to use it anyway, but just thought I'd put it out there.

        • FAQ says
‘If you are an existing customer without an Optus mobile service, you can still sign up to our network trial. Simply download My Optus app and log in using your account details to get started.’

Go to Shop Tab > Deals > Optus Network Trial. Try for free (appeared among the last few offers after lots of scrolling).
If still can’t see, make sure you have My Optus app (version 10.12 or higher)

Thx for this mate! Was looking around in all the various banners etc and couldn't find it. This is exactly the comment I was hoping for.

      Cheers mate!

    • +1

What then? It just opens it in a web browser again (same link as the OzB link), and then tapping try now just takes you back to the homepage of the app.

I assume you're not logged in at this stage, because if you are then I just get the "No active services" screen and can't even see the shop screen.

I'm on Android, app version 10.12, if that makes a difference.

      • Same issue here

        • Ok, so I just tried on my wife's Galaxy S23+ (install the app, then click the Try now button in the link) and it worked, came up with a screen to activate the trial offer.

No matter how many times I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app on my Galaxy S23, it just refuses to work, just goes straight to the login/signup screen.

It doesn't make any sense. OS and app version is the same. The only other difference is my wife uses an eSIM for her regular phone plan, while I'm still on a physical SIM. Not sure if my phone is failing some kind of check, and the app thinks it's not eSIM compatible, just because I happen to be using a physical SIM right now.

  • Can you keep your current number?

    • Just looked a bit more, you can't.

    • +2

      No, Diggerty.

    • International roaming is not available on this plan.

    • International calling, roaming or add-ons not available for purchase.

  • +1

Service automatically cancelled after 7 day trial.
Like watching the cursed video from Ringu.

    • +2

On the upside, it's not like a Netflix-style trial where you have to put down your credit card and it starts auto-billing if you don't stop it.

  • +2

This trial is a good idea. It shows that I can only get 3G 4G (after restarting) inside my house. Telstra gives me full fat 5G.

Every provider should have this option.

  • +1

Thanks OP! Took less than 5 minutes to set up. Didn't realise that you could only have 1 Esim active at anyone time. But that's okay!

    • It depends on your phone - eg iPhone 13 and newer can have two eSIMs active at once - iPhone 12 and older were only 1x eSIM and 1x plastic SIM active at once.

      • Hey, thanks for explaining! I am using an iPhone 11 so this explains why I can't have 2 Esims working at the same time!

    • You can have just 2 sims active afaik… physical + esim or 2 esims.

      • Yeah, found out the hard way. Thank you 😊.

  • +7

Great marketing idea. Vodafone should do the same.
Many of us have been burned over the years with poor reception on Optus and Vodafone, but maybe times have changed having gone from 2G to 3G to 4G and now 5G.
If we try it for free and it works well, opens up options to change to rather being stuck on Telstra and their rising prices.

    • I would def try Vodafone if they did this.

Time to prank call all my Ex GF

And not a single free eSIM was redeemed thy day.

      2 year anniversary celebration!

    • Time flies

  • Strange, after I installed eSim, my number is 04xxxxxx58, but if I call someone they get another number 04 xxxxxxx21. If they call this number, it says it is not connected, but if they call 04xxxxxx58, it goes through. Is anyone having the same problem as me?

    • -1

That's what scammers do called caller ID spoofing

  • +3

Is there a list of first time services you can use with a new number? Like $20 off first uber eats order etc.

  • Great deal!

  • Does eSIM Trial works if I have amaysim sim (which uses optus network)?

    • yes

  • in 7 days Optus can take your details and sell it on the dark web.

After I entered my info (driver license, etc) and submitted it, it showed me the error "We couldn't complete your sign-up. Sorry, there was an issue processing your sign-up".

Optus never let me down :)

    • +1

Drivers license has to be approved by dark web first

    • Restart the app and try again. I got this error as well.

      • +1

Thanks mate. I tried several times but still failed. I give up now.

        • Same & same

  • Wow… from Boost 4/5G to 3G. Thanks Optus!

    • +2

You may need to refresh the connection after downloading the eSIM by toggling airplane mode or restarting your phone.

On iPhone, it worked for me by turning off the line and turning it back on.

Optus mentioned something about needing to do this to enable 5G, can’t remember where.

      • All good now, cheers.

  • +2

    Great for jbhifi perks

  • Great. Extra buffer for a week so I dont use up my 60GB Catch. Thanks.

  • +2

Does anyone know, when this deal will be expiring?

  • yeah they must have a lot of bandwidth to spare to pull this off.

  • +1

I have signed-up with app and it generated a mobile number.
Then, I received email about - Complete your Optus registration, which I completed.
Now, where and how do I download the eSim? Do I get it in email? or app?
Havent received any email and when I open the app it just gives me first screen ( about Login or New to Optus).

  • +1

This could be handy if holidaying in a destination that has Optus but not Telstra.

There are a few of them around. Clayton bay in sa comes to mind and there are also a few Optus small cells in the flinders ranges such as rawnsley park. I’m sure there’s hundreds or thousands of other places around Australia where a free Optus sim would be handy.

  • So if I register some apps with this number will they continue to work?

    Eg Signal, WhatsApp, Telegram?

    • As long as:
      1. Nothing triggers the app to reverify you
      2. No one else gets your number and signs up to the app
      3. You don't plan to move your account to another device

  • +1

We need a list of worthwhile things to sign up for/use this burner number for.

    Legally of course

  • I guess this wont work for iPads?

    Optus putting on a show… 1135 down, 141 up

  • any advice on how to sign up with this and not use my own details in case they decide to leak shite in future?
So its basically a 7 day trial with a new number and is cancelled automatically at the end (the number can be ported out within a 30 day period)

    • You worry too much. Our personal details had been leaked so many times……

My solution to prevent the hack is to swap the mobile number with my wife to regist any new service. Therefore the confirmation message will be sent to the other phone to check. A little bit inconvient but works for me.
