    • You can't… unless you use someone else's identity document.

The trial is linked to ID, not device ID or IP or anything else.

      • unless you use someone else's identity document.

Which, funnily enough, you'd be able to get from Optus themselves via the breach!

    • -1

you can use my id but pay me $20 (and i actually bought someone's else id for $10 making 100% profit)

    • how to commit fraud pls

  • Can the eSIM to be transfered to another device once download and active on the current phone?

    • No, but once signed up you can log in to another phone to install the eSim.

  • I hope this deal goes on however :)

    • but you cant get second one unless you have unlimited ID to register as new customer?

      • Once the first one expires in 7 days, can I get a second one with a different no.?

        • No you need another ID

          • +1

@cooni: Just curious, Does ID check only cross check with GOV agency to open account. Does it cross check with existing account (privacy issues, i think they only allow use ID check to open account but not to cross check with their own databases).

            • @huu: Good question! Would like to know this too. If they do not cross check with internal db, then it’s possible to get a new no. within 6 months (see comment by @jimojr below)

            • @huu: they're legally required to keep your id details in case you use your sim to do a terrorism

        • +1

          Yes, after 6 months.

          Eligibility
This plan is available to customers who do not have a active Optus mobile service and who have not taken the Optus Network Trial in the past 6 months.

  • Do receiving text still work after 7 days?

    • -1

Probably until the number is put back into circulation after 30 days i guess?

      • I think once it's allocated it shouldn't be re-allocated for a year or 2?

  • +3

Signed up but having trouble setup and download the eSIM. Keep saying having trouble processing your eSIM. Chat service also useless.

    • Amen to that, I'm not even up to the signup stage and chat can't even give me the basic instructions of how to sign up, I've literally been chatting to them for 3 hours at this point.

      • lol your 3 hrs must have been worth more than a 7 days free sim

        • +2

I'm not talking to them the entire time lol, just leave it percolating in the background and occasionally respond.

It's pretty funny that this entire miserable process is enough to make me never actually want to be an Optus customer, this experience has done more to damage my impression of them than if they'd never had this offer in the first place.

          • +3

@webkit: I tried chat and they wanted me to sign up for a $39 plan instead. The lady said that the charge would be in the future so i can try now for free. Rightttttt! Optus never learns

  • Not sure why but registered anyway..it’s now activating status

  • -2

Worst trial ever, Optus still hasn't got me connected. Why would I sign up for more of this crap service. I did ask that my personal data be deleted but I'm still waiting for a response on that too.

  • +3

I get a message saying that it could not be processed. The only action is to message the chat to ask for help. Started a conversation, the support staff asked me where I had seen the trial banner, and then the app stopped responding. Now I can't access the live chat and it just sits on "loading".

Not the most convincing trial experience

What's the point of having this for just a week?

    • Uber eats?

  • +3

It's not working for me either. Got message having trouble processing my eSIM request. Asked me to message Optus but not getting a solution.

    • Same. Optus chat wanted me to call them or visit in store for more verification information.

    • I got this error on first attempt but reopening the app allowed me to download the eSIM the second time.

    • +4

What a challenge, I spent 21 fun hours on and off with Optus Support. In my case the account had been created with no available credit and it was never going to work. Great trial, I got to experience Optus at its unhelpful best.

      • +2

        Agree. Hopeless support from Optus.

  • It took a second attempt then 15 minutes plus a reboot and mine was good earlier in the day.

    First attempt to download errored.

any services that I can use this number for to get a free trial? Kayo, Stan etc?

That and checking if e-sim works on my new phone are the only possible uses I see for this deal

  • Can you port the number out?

    • Yes, I just ported my number to Telstra.

  • sign up was a sh!tfight on android, worked easy on ios

  • +1

No issues on android here took about 5 minutes start to finish. Using my fancy esim to post this. Now to get some uber eats first order offers

  • Shafted. The number I got has already ordered with Menulog before (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/839166)

  • Signed up and it said I'll receive further details via email. It's been over an hour and no email. Anyone?

  • Just tried to sign up, says I've already done the trial even though I haven't. I contacted them on chat and they said I need to visit a store, there's a reason I don't use Optus ffs.

  • +2

Not worth wasting your time. The user experience on this is quite frustrating and poor.

    • Same , wasted half a day with useless customer service who gave up in the end and suggested buying a regular service.

  • +2

I've tried signing up… Get the temp number… Then agree… Then it just asks me to Login.

    Any suggestions?

    • +2

I also got as far as temp number. This has been more than 48hrs, no email come, no instructions whatsoever and i cant remember my temp number. Chatting with support also pointless. I just give up.

  • Tell you what if you enjoy spam calls and text messages from someone else's ex-girlfriend looking for child support, sign up to this.

I don't know where they are getting the number pool for this but it really doesn't feel like they have been quarantined for long enough based on the activity from the number I received.

  • i cant get this to work. the trial doesnt show up and even if i got to Shop > Deals > Trial > Try Now - it just bring me back to the home page.

  • Not working. Couldn't activate eSIM for more than 2 days wait. Asked me to message Optus but they couldn't work it out even after multiple app reinstalled and other useless suggestions for few hours. Looks like they know this issue and throwing the free trial to give ICT subjects to solve their issues. And now they've my details and no service.

  • Thanks OP.
Takes a bit of Hell out of the $tra network.

  • what time this trial going to end?

  • I got this text message from optus today.
