  • oh sweet, my small plan ends during this week, dunno if i should jump to medium…dont use much data

  • that expiry date right? website says 30/08/2024?

    • Are you sure, mate?

On the website it says: "The unique Kogan Mobile voucher included as part of this product cannot be redeemed for cash. Voucher must be purchased by 11:59PM AEST on 18/08/2024."

    • It says voucher expires 30/09/2024, meaning you can buy it early and you have until that day to activate the voucher.

      • The 500GB plan says "Activate this plan by 31/08/2024"

        • +2

yea sorry i meant the 500gb plan is 31/08/2024

          • @peep20011: Ah yeah right, sorry was looking at the 300GB one. But yeah, I just did that for their last EOFY sale, I snagged up the 500GB plan for $150 last month and didn't activate until yesterday (it was due to expire end of this month) because I still waited for my last Amaysim plan to expire so that is correct. You can buy it early and activate until next month.

Which network? Can't find it on the page

EDIT: Buried in the CIS, it's Vodafone (eurgh)

oh well, then just use vodafone itself it's cheaper, but I thought kogan was optus, what we really want is telstra.

        • +3

Note that what you actually want is Boost for the full Telstra network - other MVNOs (including Belong) just gets Telstra's wholesale network which is more like Optus.

          • @pennypincher98: I went from Telstra to belong in the last few months and noticed zero difference even with the capped speed.

That includes some regional travel, starting to think Telstras full network is overrated these days.

            • @creesy: Regional travel is okay, but if you are out in the absolute sticks Telstra retail is still your only choice. This is largely because of the Black Spot program which is government funded.

Vodafone does not necessarily mean bad these days, particularly in the suburbs. Unquestionably Telstra has better coverage, but not necessarily better service. In many of the new estates and in more congested areas, the Vodafone network tends to be faster and more reliable.

I wrote something about it once here with a source: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15356733/redir

I have used Vodafone through Kogan for the past 5 years and it's not as bad as some people make out in my area. I live in metropolitan Sydney and am fairly aware of a few areas where a call will drop out but overall it does the job. For me, I go through about 200GB a year on my phone so by getting the 300GB plan it works out at $14 a month albeit I pay obviously upfront. No other service provider that I know of comes close to that over a 12 month period. Admittedly I haven't seen 5G pop up on my phone, only 4G. I'm not a fan of Kogan itself but their mobile plans I do stick with

I'll second that. Was in one of the southern suburbs of Melbourne, and there both my 4G mobile internet via Telstra, and my phone (Vodafone, 4G) struggled to get proper data speeds after 2pm, with Telstra being worse off more often than Vodafone; as I was only 1.2km from the antenna, I'd say a textbook example of network congestion (and neither had much luck getting over 20mbps after 9am).
Now in inner west I'm about twice as far from the antenna, but both are doing a lot better - 50mbps happens regular enough.
I've even had a sustained download on a large file of 60mbps (a 560MB file from Microsoft) hotspotting my phone, this is something that Telstra struggles with.
So in both cases, they're mostly similar but Vodafone has the edge, especially with larger downloads.
(note that it never gets to 'superb', too often the overall experience is not a 'first world' one… lack of infrastructure investments it seems)

      • Kudo-> 'For "overall experience", Vodafone actually wins the Download and Upload speed tests, and also the Availability and 5G Availability tests'

        Is there a APP/site where a potential-user can test if a mobile-network (Telstra/Optus/Vodafone) is too-congested @ their-CHOSEN-location? Thanks.

  • Does anyone know if there is an app where you can turn the mobile data off eg. Print to child?

    • +2

      Settings?

What is Print to child? I searched for it, but I don't believe the results were relevant (colouring in pages).

This was $150 a while back for 500gb Flex. Best thing I did was flick to Boost 5G, night and day difference in my area compared to Vodafail.

    • +4

Totally agreed with coverage (sydney) however stuff boost for getting rid of the cheapest 365 plan, this after price jacking it. Dunno where to go now.

      • Same boat.

        • +2

If you are in metro it works fine. I have family members on Vodafone. Kogan and Lebara and no problems.

          • @fozzie: I find vodafone to be the worst network in metro sydney, optus is the best for me.

    • Are there any other providers that can do around the same data allocation for a year? I'm looking to switch to a 5g plan as well to make the most of my phone but shits expensive everywhere else

Every time I order a voucher they add me back to their spam email list and every time I have to unsubscribe. Is there any company more spammy?

    • +1

use one time email aliases (simplelogin has free tier with 10 current aliases) and when that email alias not needed anymore just delete it and culprit's emails will be blackholed

  • hi quick question for those who is using kogan mobile, can u receive credit card sms verification when travel overseas?

  • +1

Melbourne middle ring suburb in the SE and Vodafone consistently outperforms both Telstra and Optus.

And prolly fewer outages over the past few years too.

  • “Voucher does not apply to subsequent recharges”

Does this mean that i have to port out if i am already with Kogan?
    Thanks

    • No I think that means you only can use it once.

  • Anyone tried eSIM on this?
Is it better than physical ?

    • Define "better".

    • What do you mean by "better"?

  • the 500gb is showing as $300 now :(
