This offer ends today the 19th, not on the 17th.

I just got off the phone with Westpac:

    You CAN apply online
    No fees for additional cardholders

UNKNOWN if points offer will extend. Lady advised that if applying simply for the points (particularly today) to hold off until the end of April if the offer will extend

$0 annual fee offer ends on 30 JUNE. 0% for 6 month rate ends 19 APRIL.

So for the would-be's like myself that left things too late. Wait until May and see if theyll extend the 60k offer as the $0 1st year fee is still waived.

    • The Qantas site is opposite, it still has the free points showing but not the fee waiver

      http://www.qantas.com.au/cardselector/detailAction.do?cardna…

    • I was advised by the first 2 (out of 3 reps) from Westpac that I spoke to that even as a new customer applying online, you would be eligible for all the promotional offers. That is:

      • First year annual fee waived
      • 60,000 bonus points
      • 0% purchase rate for first 6 months

Even though the website says that you will only get the following as a brand new customer:

      • 60,000 bonus points
      • 0% purchase rate for first 6 months

I called up a third time and was advised that the information on the website is accurate.
So anyone who applied online MAY get charged an annual fee.

I applied online, given the advice I was given from the first 2 reps. After I called a third time (I called because I was verbally referring a friend and was a little concerned), I got the confirmation above.

I therefore explained my situation and have been told I need to request for the annual fee to be reversed once my first statement gets released.

Quite a hassle, but I must say that overall the deal itself is absolutely awesome.

  • Hey
Just wondering I opted for altitude rewards.. It's only been thirty days since arrival of card and I was thinking of changing to qff .. Is this possible? Anyone done this before?

    Cheers

    • +1

I haven't tried it myself, but the T&Cs say you can, and to allow at least 10 business days to process. The points you already have in Altitude Rewards stay there, it's only new points that go to QFF.

      • Thank you.. wonder if I can also apply for the qantas lounge passes instead of the priority pass

  • +1

I'm still waiting for the 60k points. I signed up over a month ago and have made a bunch of purchases. Anyone received their points yet? I'm on altitude rewards.

    • I did not get 60K QFF points after paying my first bill.
It might be 6-8 weeks after that, like ANZ was for me and some other people.

    • Still waiting as well. Been using it for about 5 weeks now. Edit: I selected QFF points though.

    • It's been 4 weeks since I first used the card and havent seen the 60,000 points yet.
BTW, I chose their Rewards points. Wonder whether this would have an effect??

  • +2

People: you will get your points after the third statement, apparently you used to get your points straightaway but not anymore "because people have ruined it canceling the card after cashing the points" according to the rep I talked to.

    • +1

This is why we can't have nice things.

    • Can live with that .. More annoyed at the max points you can earn per month is capped at 3750 that's why I'd look to move after I get my points.

      • +1

So you don't have the Black, with its uncapped points?

No big deal with the three month wait - all you have to do is actually keep a damn good card you're getting for free.

    • thanks

  • Are you able to get promo pts and have annual fee be waived? Read to be eligeble for pts you must pay the first year annual.

    • +1

This was an unadvertised, in store promotion only. I believe now you can have either, but not both. Still worth asking, I suppose.

  • still no points here!

  • +3

Got both my 40k NAB and 60k westpac points today! Around 2 months since applying i think :)

    • 100K; hot dog!

  • +1

Points have come through. Haven't received second statement yet.

    • when did you first make a purchase? mine is mid april so maybe need to wait…

      • First transaction April 14

  • Thanks OP, got my 60,000 points.

About the Lounge pass, can someone advise how does this work? I couldnt find any email Westpac option so hope Ozbargainers can help me here. Thanks in advance.

    • how do you know you get the points, are you checking qff website everyday?

check westpac webpage about the card, you;ll find info about the complimentary passes.
for the master card you will get priority lounge pass - > need to register using special link there. you get 2x passes each year, free.
for the amex card you will get qantas lounge pass, - > register free but you need to purchase a qantas product to be able to use the lounge.

      • I didn't go to the rewards site, just saw it on my credit card page.
I did try to check on the Westpac general page but didn't see any link. Will try again. Meantime if you can provide the link would be nicr.

        • @erwinsie:

          Thanks for this.

I have registered with Amex, which took me to Priority Pass. In Australia, looks like there is only Cairns. Ah well…

Then I registered with Master, to be told "Thank you for registering for the Qantas Club Lounge Invitation. Your first Card spend on selected Qantas product or service is now required to complete your registration. Full details visit altitudeblack.com.au." I did that but not sure where to look….. Can you please enlighten?

          Thanks a million.

        • @Pumpkin_rrr: not sure but "Your first Card spend on selected Qantas product or service is now required " maybe you need to spend first

        • @erwinsie:

With ANZ Black card promo the last time, it comes free with 2 complimentary Qantas Club lounge access which can be sold for $80 ~ $120 on ebay.

        • @erwinsie:

Correct, you need to purchase one of the listed Qantas products to start it. After that, it is two every year.

        • @snuke: You mean that every year I have the Westpac Black, I'll be sent the passes, so long as I've made the purchase in year one? Or is it a purchase each year?

I'm just hanging out for the passes to arrive, at which time I'll cancel the (refundable business class) ticket, which is for next year.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: WOW. good idea so everyone can just book business class ticket wait for the passes then cancel?

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

Qantas Club Lounge Invitations. To be eligible for the two complimentary annual Qantas Club Lounge Invitations, you must first register at altituderewards.com.au and then use your Altitude Black card in Australia to purchase selected Qantas products and services. Selected Qantas products and services are the following items purchased directly from Qantas: Qantas passenger flights (with a QF flight number), Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club membership joining and annual fees. Each year, you will receive two complimentary lounge invitations once you have made the required spend on selected Qantas products and services. Qantas Club Lounge Invitations are provided courtesy of Westpac, and are valid for Qantas Club and Qantas operated international Business Lounges only. Not valid in International First Class lounges, Chairman’s Lounge, Qantas Domestic Business, Qantas oneworld® alliance airline, partner airline or associated lounges. Each invitation is valid for a single visit before the date specified on the invitation, when travelling with Qantas or Jetstar with a QF or JQ flight number. Access and use is subject to Qantas Club rules which are available at qantas.com/qantasclub The two Qantas Club Lounge Invitations will expire on the date printed on the invitations. Qantas Club Lounge Invitations will not be issued to customers who do not firstly register at altitudeblack.com.au prior to making the eligible card spend.

        • @snuke: Says nothing about only needing to spend in the first year.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

Yeah, as I read it, you need to make a Qantas purchase every year.

        • I'm on the frequent flyer program. After getting my 60k Qantas points, can I swap over to Altitude rewards then get the Priority pass instead?

        • @lilkid28: I'm sure you can. You haven't claimed the Qantas passes yet?

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: I haven't… think I'm more likely to use the Priority pass… travelling to Europe for honeymoon next year. Hardly any value purchasing or redeeming Qantas economy IMO… Do have about 220k points (after 60k hits in) which I plan to redeem for business tickets from Europe back to Melbourne.

        • @snuke:
Damn. Was just told that payments on the redemption of reward tickets don't count as Qantas passenger flights purchased directly from Qantas.

        • @Love a bargain: Just book a fully refundable business class ticket for next year, then cancel once you get your passes.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: works? and we can sell the pass for $80 or so i heard.
what if later qantas cancel the pass when original owner cancel the business class ticket?

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: How long does it take to get the passes and how long does it take Qantas to process the refund? Wanna avoid the situation where I'd be stuck with a credit balance on the card.

        • @erwinsie: I wonder the same too. Sounds too good to be true.

        • +1

@Love a bargain: They send it out when you pay for it. Just wait for them to come, should be within the month. AFAIK they can't cancel the passes, as they don't have serial numbers. As for credit balances, well, a business class fare can be had for less than $700. Not a huge amount to spend, especially on a card that gives such good rewards.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:
How to avoid $30 cc fee when booking the bussiness class ticket on the website?

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:
Which route/what date did you find one at that price. The cheapest I could find was near $750.

        • +1

          @Love a bargain: Try Adel - Mel

        • @eecchhoo:
$30? Isn't the CC booking fee just $7. But yea, because of the booking fee, I think I might wait to see if I will actually be buying a ticket and use this trick only towards the end of the membership year.

        • @Love a bargain:
          Thanks for the correction.
I was looking on an international booking and it was $30
          Domestic is $7 cc fee

    • Hi, how do you know the 60k bonus points are issued? Can you check it anywhere?

When did you make your first purchase?

      • No I didnt check with the Awards page. I was just on my normal Westpac crdit card page and read that my points was over 60k…

        • Where exactly will it show on the normal westpac credit card page? Thanks - I do not see any link to check on existing Reward point; but I chose Qantas rewards though.

        • I guess you selected Westpac rewards , not Qantas rewards.

  • +1

Got my 60000 Qantas points with my second statement

    • Same here :D

  • As on my statement mentioned it's 0% interest for my purchases. Does it mean i dont have to pay any purchases balance until i get the 6th statement and pay the owing balance then?

    Thanks

    • Should need to pay the minimum balance only.

      • ohh ok … Good to know …
i assume i'll hit with late payment if i do not make the minimum payment?

        Cheers

    • Hey mate, do you have an expiry date mentioned on the 0% purchase rate on your statement?

      • Nope. Its only showing on a table on one of the statement page. For purchases its 0% rate

        • Same on mine, 0% offer with no expiry date. Called up Westpac a month earlier when I got my statement and the lady says that as per statement there is no expiry of 0% interest rate applicable on this card. I was under the impression that it was 6 months 0% on purchases! She did say that might be fixed by the second statement which I'm going to receive next week. Too good to be true hey?

  • Points came in after 2 months :)

    • Did you see your Qantas points on your second statement?

      • end of the second cycle.. it's in my account.. haven't seen the statement

  • For anyone who has already received their Points, can you please inform the rest of us about the following:

    • Did you opt in for the QFF points or Altitude points
    • When did you sign-up / get accepted
    • Approx. amount of generated card transactions ($$$) since sign-up

I am getting the feeling that Westpac is having some back-end selection criteria before releasing points.

    • +1

      Qantas points selected.
Card ordered 20 March, first purchase 30 March, points allocated 18 May (second billing cycle ended 17 May)
$8K+ spent, however I thought only $1,000 was required for points to be allocated.

      • Thanks for the info. I signed up before you I think but am still missing my QFF points so probably have not generated enough $$$ in transactions to qualify.

May I ask, where did you see the information about the minimum $1000 required?

        • what? $1k minimum? oh no i didnt spend that much. my first purchase: 15 april. total purchase to date: $20. so far only got 1 statement thus no points yet

        • +1

I went for QFF, applied 24 March, first spend 8 April. I've spent under $100 and got my points on my second statement on 19 May.

        • Hmmm, looks like a mis-read a user comment.

        • @TRS-80: Thanks, no pattern there to snuke

  • Still waiting for QFF points here. First used card 13th March. Just received 2nd statement. Checked statement & Qantas account. Still no bonus points, although purchase points are being allocated. Will update if I see s change

  • I must be lucky then - chosen QFF and spent $29.99 on 21st Apr and on 20th May - 1st official statement and I gotten the points in my QFF account.

  • Those who have got the points, were you already Westpac customers? I was. Conversely, those who didn't, were you new to Westpac?

  • Just got my 60k QFF points in my second statement, I am a new customer of Westpac (no previous accounts).

Approved and got cards early April, first spend $47 at woolworths on 13 April, spent total $305 to end of 2nd statement, got 2nd statement on 3 June stating that bonus points to be allocated to QFF very soon (possibly tomorrow).

    Very happy :)

  • ok so most people confirmed, seeing the points on 2nd statement.

    • +1

Not for me though, still waiting.

  • +1

Just got my 2nd statement appeared on my online account this morning and it shows 60000 bonus point posted as well

  • +2

Finally received my 60000 QFF points. They have appeared as bonus points on my third westpac statement. My first statement was a 0$ amount statement as I had paid off the charges incurred on the CC before the statement was generated. That may have had a effect on the points being released on the third statement.

Had more than 1000$ in transactions and applied early on when offer became available on Ozbargain in a branch in Melbourne.

  • I buggered it up. Initially selected QFF program on sign up. Then after receiving card, had a brain explosion and thought it would be better to go with the Altitude program for the better points per dollar spend. Rang up and changed over. Got off phone and then realised what a stupid mistake I had made and that I should have waited for the bonus points to go to the QFF program first. So got back on phone straight afterwards and requested to go back to QFF. They said yes would happen immediately. But then 2 weeks later I received a letter stating that I was on Altitude program. Rang up and complained and was informed that points had already been allocated to Altitude program and tough luck there was nothing they could do to put the points on QFF. I'm not happy now. Interesting (probably because of my stuff up) it took less than 1 month after first purchase to get the points even before the first bill arrived.

Activated cards 27/04. First purchase same day. 60000 Altitude points allocated on 19/05. So got points in super quick time.

  • Just got my 60K+ QFF points. Praise be to OP.

  • +1

    All hails the OP!

  • Received mine after the third statement.

  • Yep, confirmed 60k points allocated after 3rd statement here.
Now looking carefully to see if ANZ Black card points come in to make it 110k QFF's for doing nothing.

  • 60k bonus Qantas points hit on the 3rd statement.
Applied through call centre in March 15, first spending in March 15.

  • +1

60,000 points have come through on my second statement (applied mid April). :)

  • 3rd statement still no points. Anyone have a direct contact number?

    • +1

Look at the back of your card

      • Cool thanks.

  • Can also confirm that I've got my bonus QFF points on my second statement and the points have showed up on my QFF account a day after.

  • Just got my bonus points - also on my second statement. Yay.
