    • Thanks for that. You actually helped a lot.

    • So you've been successful?

      • +1

Yep I cancelled a card which i applied online for 10 days ago before this offer and re-applied in branch successfully

  • +1

Going to try in the Melbourne CBD branch at lunch..
BTW: Can my wife also apply??? (Basically getting 120,000 QFF between both of us??) Or is it a "per household" type deal??

    • Can you let us know how you go, and which branch you use? I work in the CBD too.

      • +1

Collins street branch. 360 Collins street.
Doing application right now. No issues. Main conceriege wasn't aware of the deal, but the personal banker is. Just going through the paperwork now…yawn… :)

Update: All done. Took about 20~ minutes.
Def worth the time for 60,000 QFF points, and a free credit card.
Just doing one purchase, and will cancel at the end of the year.

    • me and wife got 40k points from NAB i dont see why not with this

  • Just got approved in branch for the black. Took 40 mins though-Chatterbox employee

  • Just done over the phone.
This year has started off great with all these free bonus points.

  • I got my approval email this morning and I applied in branch yesterday, south Melbourne on Clarendon street if anyone is interested in the branch.

Went into the Hobart branch yesterday and it was unsuccessful. Went in again today to speak to the branch manager and he knew about it. Sat down again with the same lady as yesterday and she asked me if I saw the deal on ozbargain :D She said after I left yesterday an ozbargainer came in to see her. *handshake everyone here

      i got score 664.
but few weeks ago i made CC application and not showing in history…. hmm so it is not recorded yet? means i can apply many cc at the same time and big chance they wont see any record?

      • Me too. My NAB application is showing from last month, but my Westpac one hasn't appeared yet.

        • Check your veda report before assuming it's not noted. D&B and, it seems, the Creditsavvy people, don't have full records, but Veda seem to capture all applications.

Of course, they don't capture positive reporting, even though they're meant to, so churners like us get penalised purely on the basis of applications made.

    Thank OP

Approved for the black altitude with 60000 QFF points

  • Just went into a Sydney CBD branch (no appointment). In and out in 20mins and approved for Black Qantas card. Confirmed no annual fee for the first year.

    • Can I ask which branch? Went to Castlereagh St branch and Rep said this offer did not exist as fee-free for first year, pointing to standard offer on the website. Might have to visit your branch - thinking Castlereagh Branch just done themselves out of a commission!

  • which is a better program altitude /qantas black card to obtain gift cards with points? is the the earth black card still available to apply for?

  • I was going to do this but CBF. Why not allow online application with the same deal? stupid.

  • Walked into a Westpac branch in QLD yesterday. The banker was unaware of the promotion and told me all three cards had fees on them.

Phoned another branch today. Same issue - No deal.

    • Look at droodle's post p2.
      Promotion is called "Blitz"

    • which branch in QLD? Brisbane?

    • Just do it all over the phone, that's what I did and I'll be picking my card up from Westpac in Brisbane CBD next week.

All done and dusted in 20mins.

      • Hi I did my over the phone too yesterday. But did you receive a welcome email? I haven't received one yet…

        • Hi, nah I only got the one email:

          Dear XYZ,

Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that your Credit Card application has been completed.

          Next Steps

Me too man, until I mentioned blitz. Even though I went in straight after their team meeting, no one had a clue. The girl even told me she was quitting soon(but hadn't told her boss), how she hates the company I work for, and too many other inappropriate things to mention. She then said "because we get mystery shopped, how would you rate your experience out of 10?"

  • Hi how many point do I need for say a $100 voucher?

    • 250$ us 37500

      • So with the 60k free points I'll pretty much get a $500 voucher straight away?

        • +1

"Straight away" = after you get the card, make the first spend, pay your first bill 1 month later, then allow 6-8 weeks for the points to appear in your QFF acct, but yes.

  • I wonder if there is the same promotion on St George Amplify cards?

Tried 2 branches in Sydney CBD with no luck.

Called and the operator knew exactly what I wanted and was approved within 30min..

Most of that time was waiting, but well worth the wait.

    • What do you mean no luck? Care to elaborate

      • Both branches said they have not heard of this offer or been sent any communication about it, he even asked his manager who did not know either.

I showed them the ozbargain page which they photocopied and said would contact me if things changes.

The assistance ask his manager to waive the fee but said he was not allowed.

Called the application line and ask the operator if there's an offer for a Altitude Black card with 1st year fee waived and 60,000 Qantas points, he said yes that's correct and process my application.

        • +5

I showed them the ozbargain page which they photocopied

So much for 'The One Rule of OzBargain'

  • Anyone one else have any notion on BPAY, do they accumulate points.

With ANZ they do, though you should also check if the receiver accepts bpay from a credit card.

    CBA doesnt

    Also for the Lounge passes

We have to make a purchase on "selected Qantas products and services" what are these products and services I went to the atitude black site and the so called products and services are very limited and cost more than the lounge pass themselves

    • Found it in their terms and conditions BPAY does not count towards points

6.2 Qantas Points are not earned in respect of the following
amounts that may be charged to the Card Account:

      • Bpay® payments; i.e. bill payments and other payments
made through the Bpay Electronic Payments Scheme

  • Has anyone in Sydney had any lucks? I tried a few and they had no idea what I was talking about. All they did was immediately going to the westpac website to see if this offer is there. I said it's a branch only offer and they were dumbfounded.

    • Don't waste your time mate, just call em up - all their call centres know about this.

      • actually yeah i just did. Mentioning 'blitz' help but unfortunately i've been declined :(. This is my first time being rejected. Maybe I've had too many cards recently, just had the NAB and the Coles one this month and still waiting for CBA to get back to me. Anyone knows if this is the reason for declining?

        • Check your credit score with creditsavvy.com.au. Would be interested to know what range you fall in…

        • they gave me the BS that it's because i'm not currently a Westpac customer so i dont fit in with their lending criteria and i shouldnt try to reapply again because it'd be the same outcome. There goes my potential 60K points :(

ok i'm moderate risk at 577, that's why :(. Should i close some of them and try again?

        • @macr0hard:

Hmmm….maybe you can get an edge by signing up for an everyday Westpac account ahead of applying….

          Cheers for sharing your experience.

        • +1

          @macr0hard:

          How about StGeorge?

          http://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards

They also have a 60k FF points promo, with waived annual year fee.

Be warned though, they are affiliated with Westpac, so perhaps their criteria might be the same or perhaps less stringent seeing as they are a smaller bank?

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:
I wonder how safe all of your data is with creditsavvy.com.au ?
You need to enter a lot of personal information to get your credit score.
Their privacy policy looks OK, but still appears to have a few loopholes about who they share with.
Anyone had any thoughts or experiences with this?

        • @montorola: you beauty! Bank SA while I'm at it. We'll be able to fly home from Dubai first class too!

        • @Gaz1: They're owned mostly by CBA. From reading between the lines, they seem to be a disruptor to the D&B/Veda cartel, and, presumably, offer the services for free, as anything which gets people more up to date with their credit profile is likely to lead to more business.

Veda, on the other hand, charge $100 or so a year just for poorly serviced, infrequently updated access to your info. I reckon Veda's personal credit reporting business will die the death of a thousand cuts, as the banks cut out their undeserved margins.

        • @montorola:
I can't see a mention of waived annual year fee - is this a phone and/or in store promo only too?

        • @montorola: Where does it say annaul fee is waived?

        • @Gaz1: the original post says store and phone only.

        • @montorola: where does it say waived annual fee?

i should probably stop applying for a while to improve my score though lol

        • @montorola:

My apologies everyone, I misread the text on their site and just instantly assumed everything was the same as Westpac's one when I saw the 60k points. Do you think it could be worth a try calling them up and asking if they can waive like Westpac is?

          Sorry!! :(

However, those of you with a home loan from StGeorge, don't you get a free CC as part of your advantage package?

        • -2

@montorola: Where does it say the St George card is free? Is this in branch only. Their website doesn't mention a fee waiver.

        • It's funny as exactly the same thing happ to me today! The card got declined and the man said this is because I have no Westpac products (brand new client). I checked my score and I have a 788 score (very good). I got approved for cba card last week ($100 cash back) and had a ANZ card (50k QFF) last year, but nothing else and I earn over 100k so I'm clueless as to what happened?

  • +1

Went and picked up my shiny new cards today (having applied and been approved in branch on Tuesday). First transaction done and dusted. Must say, the black card is sexy, don't want to go back to slumming it with just Platinum.

  • Thanks OP - applied and approved in branch.

  • I rang up call centre today,
    mentioned the "blitz" promotion
    and was told:

no annual fee means no bonus points

    So disappointed !

    Is this misleading advertising?
given the title of this post reads
"First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points"

    Class action anyone?

    • Try harder, you can see from everyone's comment that it is not straight forward at every branch.

    • I've had the same situation today when I called up the call center.
The lady confirmed twice that the bonus points have NOT been credited to my account.

I will not have to pay the fee but also receive no bonus points.

I applied in branch and mentioned the blitz promotion that the lady found in an internal memo.
I was advised by the lady from the call center to discuss this again with the branch person who entered the information. As she entered no promotion code for the bonus points I will have to try my luck.

Confirm what the branch person has entered the 60000 bonus points code into the system. Seems to be inconsistent across branches.

  • +1

i'm surprised anyone who'd mention ozbargain would qualify for a black card

  • Applied in toombul Brisbane this afternoon. Personal banker said he had just read the internal memo this morning. All good was approved, pick up the cards next week.

Anyone looking for the link to register for the Qantas Lounge invitations:

    https://loungepass.altitudeblack.com.au

    • +1

….only if you have chosen Qantas reward points (rather than Altitude reward points). With altitude rewards you get 2 free uses of the priority lounge pass.

      • Yep, hence why I mentioned the "Qantas Lounge" invitations :P

      • Hi Gaz, could you please explain how the pass would be given out? I have Altitude Black but had chosen Rewards, not Qantas….. Thanks!

Merged from Westpac Altitude/Black Reward Cards First Year Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points + Prizes Photo

Just seen the promotion booth set up at Chatswood Westfield (also available at Bondi, Miranda, Parramatta, Tuggerah and Belconnen).
    Condition said available to NSW/ACT.

Apply at the promo booth or at any branch across NSW/ACT

    1st year annual fee waived.
+ 60,000 pts for Black and 30,000 pts for Platinum.

    • You could in a shopping spree (see photo).

Better than the previous post as this now include the lucky draw!

Sad that I have already applied on the phone and got the Black cards yesterday. May be I could apply for the Platinum to get the extra 30,000 QFF pts?

    • State/Territory in title please.

    • Nice

    • It's the same deal, only difference is that you have a photo of the details.

The good news for you: you should be part of the price draw, since all you need to do to enter was to apply for the card from March 9th - which it would seem you did.

      • I don't think I could, as the T&C says: chance to win if you apply in any branch or the activation areas in the selected Westfield. I applied over the phone!

  • Anyone had any luck applying for both the Black and Platinum?

Thinking of going for the extra 30,000 but don't want to be declined. My credit savvy rating was 589 before going for the Black.

    • Got an appointment with Bank SA to apply for their 60K card tomorrow - will see if they'll also prepared to waive their annual fee. If that's successful then there's another 120K across the St George and Bank of Melbourne cards. All offers end 31 March 2015.

      • Haha, I like your style let us know how it goes

      • How did you go with that muncan?

        • Not good so far. Bank SA wouldn't drop the fee because I don't have enough recent transactions in my St George account (despite holding a dormant gold-status account). St George said the same to me on the phone. The 'blitz' promotion seems to be Westpac only.
          Such a tragedy!
For claiming first-class tickets with the combined bonus points it's no doubt worth the annual fees, but I'm just too damn stubborn.

        • @muncan: Ah damn! But I agree. Hold out for the fee-free offers. I'm sure they will come.

  • Actually, does anyone know the process for getting the 60,000 points?

I supplied my QFF number over the phone and have made a purchase already. But the T&C pretty confusing whether you need to sign up for an Altitude Rewards account for QFF or whether just quoting your QFF is enough and everything will go through automatically.

Online banking doesn't really clarify either…

  • Received my card, thanks.

  • Walked into 80 KWS today and asked for someone to phone me back. After a few questions over the phone I was approved within about 15 mins. Thanks OP I will soon be 60,000pts closer to a Qantas business class flight!

  • I applied online and received my black card.

Then called the bank and confirmed I will receive the 60k QFF points + waiver 1st yr annual fee.

She acknowledged the T&C doesn't mention "no 1st year annual fee" but said she will waiver it and let me keep the points.

Got her salary number just in case.

    • so… how much is her salary? lol j/k

      • It was 6 digit figures ;)

  • Not normally one to care able to the look of a CC. But loving the all black look very swish.

    • Once you go black…

      • u never come back

        • -1

          u lose track

  • anyone know the North Sydney branch know about this?

    • Yeah they do - thats where i applied for mine

  • I applied on the phone… need to pickup from branch…

  • Hi, does anyone know how long it takes for the points to post?

    • +1

When I went to pickup my card, the rep told me that it'll take 3mths to come through - apparently they do it to stop people from signing up just to get the points (what he said)

    • +1

I was told it would happen on/after the 2nd billing cycle.

The 1st bill is to confirm you used the card.

  • How do l register the card online??

    • Contact the branch to send you Customer Number and Password.

  • Just picked mine up in store. Easy process from start to finish.

  • I rang to apply for the platinum too but got told I won't get the points, only points redeemable once per account regardless of which card you have.
Anyone else can confirm this? The operators have no clue most of the time.

    • Fair to say they're unlikely to be happy with people taking more than one card, just to get free points.
