The worst thing about this is, Ebay is footing the bill. The 20% off for us comes from Ebay's pockets. So DSE screws over the customer, and it screws over Ebay as well.

      • +3

I believe Ebay knows this SILENTLY

      • which makes you wonder, why does Ebay continue to include them on these deals?

        • +3

Ebay are desperate to make themselves relevant again, and need to attract the big stores.

        • no really. it doesn't matter how much the merchants bump up their price because ebay still get their fvf cut. the only thing is that bumping the price will reduce turnover for ebay and less revenue for paypal's $0.30 per transaction fee.

        • +2

          @whooah1979:

Ebay still get the sellers fees, but the 20% discount that they are foot will easily outweigh the fees.

Also, the main point of these events is to boost traffic to ebay and Paypal. The mandatory Paypal sign up is probably the main objective behind these sales. They need to get as many people to sign up, first to make people more likely to buy on ebay in the future, second to build a larger user base once mobile payments hits Australia.

        • @garratt torlesse:
i don't have business/financial background, but i seems to me that ebay is doing this to solely show revenue on the books.

      • How do you know that for a fact?

    • Great work. I think if someone also adds comparisons to their non-ebay store it would add further weight to the case.

Check out the cyclic banner on the Dick Smith eBay store. It says "Unleash your smith". What the hell does that mean?

At least they chose to use the surname thankfully.

    • +8

I know right ? "Unleash your dick" sounds better.

      • +3

Of course they wouldn't do that. Its only for Dick Smith to unleash their dick and screw everybody over.

Yeah, I will take that 20% off deal for sure…….

    • take the 20% and you'll also get the 30-day ebay buyer protection and/or paypal's 180-day buyer protection.

      • You can always make a credit card charge back if anything goes awry. No need for ebay's protections.

    • thats soooooo d!ck…..

    • wow. just wow.

Appliances Online - Free Shipping on 20% discount day = ~$150

    Con.

    • Where's free shipping from AO?

    • Put your postcode in the shipping calculator within the listing and it will come to $0 if you're in a metro area.

  • I thought everyone would be jumping at the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 for $359 + 20% discount.

And if you get Officeworks to price match you've hit tablet gold.

    • Do they allow price match on discounted items like this?

      • I don't see why note, unless I'm missing something in the T&Cs

        • +1

I don't think anyone knows whether (for these major retailer ebay sales) the retailer takes the hit or if ebay gives them the other 20%. If ebay is paying them the 20%, there's no way they're going to pricematch

        • +1

Ebay/Paypal is—at least on the face of it—the one paying the difference. Maybe they've got some deal with the retailers worked out on the sly but either way you've got Buckley's of having OW price beat the 20% discount.

        • Has anyone at least tried?

        • +2

'Coupon offers' are excluded from the price match T&Cs from memory.

    • Yeah, good price for that one.

    • I purchased this on Friday so I went down to my local today to see about refunding the difference. They also ended up refunding the $20 discount I received via an sms promo, so I've ended up getting it for under $270. Not bad for $480 rrp.

  • +6

LOL oh Dick, you are such a dick - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sony-PS4-Console-Last-Us-Remaster…

    AU $999.00

    • +1

I think we have to compile a list of Dickish prices.

I found a Lumia 625 at double the website price @ 499 and now this.

      • +1

god i really hope something gets done about this.

  • +1

Can I use the Good guys price guarantee? A tv I bout 2 weeks ago is 58 bucks cheaper from same retailer.

    • Probably depends on who you deal with at the store. I got the difference refunded on the tablet I purchased on Friday. They didn't beat it by 20% as per the 30 day promo, but I was happy to get just the difference.

    • The guarantee says it excludes TGG themselves. Plus if you're wanting to do it against the 20% on ebay, that's not going to happen.

    • Buy it again on promo (pickup from different store) , then return the unopened box on the original receipt.

      • Thanks for the contribution. I misread the cap of $200.. So I ended up getting a better deal a couple weeks ago, just!

      • Why not sure when it's listed? "Official Dell Australia Store" :)

      • oops my mistake, didnt see the 'official' int he front of the dell store ..

    • Yeah for $180 is there a better tablet? It seems like a winner

      • How did get $180? $199 after 20% off is $159.2

        • oh my bad, that is a good price

    • Probably won't get the lollipop update though

  • Sister looking to buy a Canon 70D DSLR. The Good Guys has it listed at $1388, so after 20% off it comes down to $1110. Digital Camera Warehouse has it at $1050 with free shipping. No deal TGG :(

    • no it doesn't! maximum discount of $200… so it would be $1188.

      • Thanks. That made the TGG price even worse in comparison.

    • Buy it from GG ebay, then use price guarantee to claim 120% the difference. Receipt will show $1388.
      i.e. 1188 - 1.2(1388 - 1050) = $782.40

  • Note4 for 723.. Happy days

Purchased Samsung Tab S 8.4" for $287.20 after discount, not bad! (From TGG)

  • such a struggle to find good stuff, no nintendo stuff on target cry :'( [except for some really bad 3DS XL (old) price]

    Thanks OP!

    • How do you select pickup?

      • +1

Just a few lines below the price

        Local pickup:
FREE In-store pickup - Buy on eBay and pick up at your local The Good Guys | Select a store

Click select a store. Pick your store, then "add to cart"

  • Purchased Samsung tab S 10.5" for $358.2 with 22% off (2% from Cashrewards)

  • Got 5TB from the TGG at $185 delivered

    • same here, it's a pity the local store had no stock or I would save $5 more

    • I got 2. Very nice price.

    • I was cheaper from Amazon a week ago, but I didn't want a hard disk that bounced around from the US to Oz :-)

  • $1000 for PS4 + Last of Us. I'll take 10.

Woo purchased pebble steel for $176.15 including postage from DS. Sweet. Plus we should be getting the 2% :) No dicky tricky today!

    • So I get it today (which is awesome). But for the last few hours at least….. the pebble website is not working and I cannot use my pebble watch. May as well render it useless for now :/ haha

Just grabbed a Sony 32" TV, model KDL32W700B for $309.68, kids will be happy.

    • +1

Great price. JB's sale price at the moment is $398. Been looking for a TV for the bedroom. Was this TV recommend to you?

    • Great deal - had no intention of buying a new TV today. But this deal is pretty sweet. Thanks for the tip. BTW i paid something like 325 inc delivery. Maybe they upped the price slighty?

      • +1

Ah sorry, i didn't pay for delivery as the TV is in stock at my local store and also I went through CashRewards for the extra 2% discount.

        • Good work :)

    • Had a call earlier today from TGG stores saying they had none in stock except the display model, the girl did mention she will order one in for me and call in the morning with the details. Hopefully it ain't a long wait!

  • Can't seem to use the code for Good Guys. Anyone successful?

    • Just bought stuff from Good Guys using the code & received an invoice from the PayPal.

      • Maybe it doesn't work for the phone I want, haha.

    • I just bought a TV from Good Guys and received the Paypal invoice with discount; only negative is that they have removed all stock pickup from local store and it's delivery only. Rung the local store yesterday and they confirmed stock availability.

Anyone recommend a decently priced dishwasher (not the wife..shes expensive)? Looking to spend under $500 and s/s if possible

    • Friend of mine bought an Omega in that price range and they are pretty happy with it. Personally I'd spend a bit more, we had a Dishlex in that price range and the electrics died after about 4 years. Bought a Siemens instead for about $1000 and it is fantastic.

      • +1

Unfortunately, cheaper the better at this stage. Getting apartment tiled, baby due in Feb, wedding in Oct. I noticed appliance online offer free delivery so probably leaning towards them.

There looks to be decent reviews on the Emilia Dishwasher EDW62SS down to $375. Any thoughts? (more looking for "its decent for the price/I've had one I wouldnt even buy if it was $100").
