      https://www.malwarebytes.org/pro/

      xD
      darn au?

      • I can confirm it is legit, some promotion from a while back, you could probably still find it on some old ozbargain page

        • +5

Yea it was from the pirated page. http://www.malwarebytes.org/lp/pirates/

        • Thanks. Bought 2 using your USD15 link. Machej's joke comment above re the 'pirated page' is probably misleading some people into thinking it is not legit.

      Thanks, Purchased.

To follow up, I did a currency conversion on all accepted currencies based on MasterCard exchange rate, and USD in cheapest to pay in, if you have 28 degrees mastercard or other card with free currency conversion on Mastercard purchases.

    • +1

      Thanks for that.
I just got it for A$17.31

    • Thanks Purchased.. Couldnt get new egg one without a US address

    • Cheers for the heads up, got it a bit cheaper than I otherwise would have.

When I bought it, it says download link expires next year, should I be worried?

    • Thanks for this. Finally bit the bullet, now bought and installed.

Only been running Windows Defender and MSE for past few years and haven't had an issue but with more instances of Cryptolocker appearing I don't want to take chances.

MWB scan has come up clean so far so good.

  • How does this compare to Windows Defender?

    • +3

Windows Defender? Jesus anything is better than Windows Defender. Malwarebytes is great though :)

    • +3

Malwarebytes + Microsoft Security Essentials (XP/Vista/7) or Windows Defender (8) is the bare minimum combination. MSE/Defender has been falling well behind in testing and Microsoft have made come contradictory statemens that it should be used only as a "bare minimum" rather than nothing, even though they fully promote it on the main product site.

I think that the ship has sailed on MSE, the only problem is finding an adequate alternative. I need something that is just "set and forget". Malwarebytes is great but it gets stuck on Program updates from time to time which are not automatic, so I can't recommend it to family and friends or clients (I am an IT tech) who will never do the update.

So far I'm leaning towards Kaspersky. I'm going to test them out because they have had top rankings in Industry tests for many years.

I have heard that Norton is good now but I find it hard to forgive them for the years of suffering they have inflicted, and they opt-out of industry testing.

ESET NOD32 is probably the best solution you're going to get. That or 'Common Sense 2014 Premium Edition'

        • +1

          love nod32
          using it right now :)

        • +1

Common Sense 2014 Premium Edition is not going to cut it for Family, Friends & Clients I can assure you!

NOD32 has been pretty good over the years and they would have been my #1 many years ago, but now they are nowhere near as highly ranked as Kaspersky. Also they rely heavily on Heuristics than Signature definitions so the chance of false-positives is high, especially as many of my clients use specialised software that are not well known and even if I set some exceptions something could still trip it up.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who Googled that before they got the joke

  • I like Malwarebytes but Bitdefender doesn't want it around. When I tried to install BD, it told me it needs to get rid of MBAM before it could install, presumably because it has conflicts with BD. Hopefully that means BD is doing everything MBAM is doing without me needing a second piece of security software.

    • Think it depends on what suite of Bitdefender you're using, but yes, it should cover everything MBAM was checking.

      • Mine was Internet Security.

I don't know if it does a better job than MBAM though.

No other piece of IS I've tried required me to get rid of MBAM.

    • Bitdefender does a decent amount mostly anti virus, but it doesn't do anti malware, which is mbam's primary focus, i had no problems with installation, ive installed it mbam first bd second and vice versa before no issues

      • i also had BD installed before i installed MBAM, no problems here during installation

Used it a few years ago. Had a 2 year license. Loved it, but sometime 1.5 years into it new updated platform slowed my PC down a lot more than it did previously. Switched away. Don't know if it's fixed now or still at the same speed it was when I switched.

It used to be light on resources until then. But it's possible it improved again. When I used Norton 360 it was quick, then it became slow as fk and I left. The people still using it though says it's much faster now and is one of the lightest suites out there. That's not enough to win me back, but it tells us that performance can go up and down with updates, and Avast might be the same.

    • Avast is the current best free one, and not a bad paid one, but I'd still go with Kaspersky - a consistantly high performer and often available cheaply. (I'm a computer tech).

  • How does the Lifetime aspect of the License work when you change computers?

(>,<) Paypal doesn't work, it seems like you need an American address. (>,<)

    • +2

just put in any american address,
google the zip code and example of phone number
i always put in fake details for digital downloads, as long as you don't order any physical

      • I just tried to set an american shipping/billing address and it was rejected.

Cant change my billing details to an aus address either, so how did anyone get this to work?

        • Okay, so I was being dumb. If you just checkout with Paypal and then add a shipping address it seems to work fine.

I was trying to do it through newegg secure checkout and it was bouncing me back.

        • Can you explain what you put in to make it work?
I have a US shipping address (friend lives there).
I don't have a US telephone number. Put in something like my Australia number.
I put in the US address in Paypal.
The US address appears in NewEgg, but I keep getting the order cancelled several hours later (even if I switch payment method in Paypal from credit card to direct deposit).

          Thanks!

  • THank. I got it. Where would it be the cheapest place to find Nod? Ebay?

    • Usually is, yes.

  • Webroot… I Never found the option for adding exceptions to it. Can anyone enlighten me?

  • Can plz someone assist me how to purchase this as everytime its asking address & not giving any overseas options.

    • +2

You need to get a U.S. address, put it in as your Newegg address then add it to paypal on checkout.

  • might put in that extra $5~ for Webroot antivirus, according to reviews it seems pretty good

but malwarebytes is one of the A+++ product standards in IT, for anyone who is wondering

i don't usually pay for any software… but lifetime sounds great!

  • +1

I have just registered a Newegg account and use a fake US address even. Use Paypal on checkout and it says it cannot authorize me for the transaction….am I missing something?

    • American express cards work with newegg

      • -1

        Don't have Ammex…. :-(
Edit: Don't bother. I just bought the software from MalwareBytes website. Cost A$27.81. More expensive than the Newegg deal but I don't need the other 2 free software….so that will settle for me now.

        • Did you miss the 1st comment which would have snagged it for you for $14.95 USD ?!

        • +1

Damn yeah…haha…missed that one…should have paid attention :)

        • +1

          jeez..

  • Gotta root for Webroot. Works well together with Emsisoft or Malwarebytes in realtime. That said, I just use Webroot now as my ONLY real-time AV, with Hitman Pro quick scan on boot up. I still have Emsisoft Emergency kit and Malwarebytes for on demand scan.
    Happy with current setup.

  • Used US address that's not mine. Hope it goes through

    • damn! authorization failed. any workaround?

      • +1

I used a work around. Create a v.me account with a fake American address. This will allow you to make the purchase as new egg will get assurance of your Americaness through v.me. cheers

      • I used a legit sounding US address, got an order confirmation:
"Thank you for shopping at Newegg.com!

We're delighted we had what you were looking for!

Your order should be processed and ready to be shipped within 1-2 business days. In some cases, we will also contact your bank for further verification. Hope that helps, dude.

        • Hey dudes, some follow up: my orders came through with a download link, so please know that it can ordered :)

  • I bought malwarebytes about a year ago and it's good. But I have a question: Are all malwarebytes' licenses lifetime? I can't find an expiry date on mine so I suspect it is a lifetime

  • i just purchased from their website, and after paying, the download link says:
"Your download link is valid until 8/02/2015."
    wat… thats only a year.

    • +1

That's just to download the installer - All you need is the licence and you can download it from Malwarebytes site. It is lifetime.

  • Will the free version still be available after the changes?

    • +1

Yep, they will continue with the free version but it still won't have any of the real time protection that the pro version offers.

      https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=141268

I've added a small change to clarify that malware removal will still be free for version 2.x and beyond. You didn't pay to get infected, you shouldn't pay to clean it up!
