    • Tempted…I tried a pair once and the NC was insane. I was in a busy mall but it sounded like I was in a quiet room underground.

  • +8

    Autobots, roll out!

    • +3

      It doesn’t protect against covid.

    • +1

It is not N95 grade. But what it will definitely be useful for bush fire smokes which more likely happen every summer.

      • +1

Actually it’s the opposite - if you’re sick it spreads your particles better than just wearing nothing. It’s a very self focused product.

        • So perfect for those of us who have long covid and are immunocompromised.

          • +1

@GoldenDragon888: if you are immunocompromised and travel on trains it’s an option compared to n95 and you have headphones, and easier to breath through than n95 because it’s pressurized.

    • +1

It would have to be a proper face mask/respirator for it to have any major benefit. I'll stick to my masks, lol

  • +22

I would wear this and the apple vision pro for the ultimate look.

  • If this doesn’t sell out quick at 80% off RRP the product is clearly a fail.

Might be good for sleeping on intercity train trips but i’m still on the fence with it ☹️

  • +1

Immortan Joe from Fury Road must have lost the headphones part.

  • +1

This monstrosity would not even entice me at $20.

  • +2

Can't believe they originally sold for $1000usd. Here is a review on them by MKBHD

  • +5

Perfect for expressing your negative thoughts on management enforcing a return to work policy.

    • +1

if you wear this on your WFH Teams call, it may become an even better reason to get you back to the office 😅

  • +4

A little tempted but I simply don’t need them, my XM4s are still going strong and probably weigh only half as much as these. Love my XM4s 🥰

    • +3

I still have some xm3’s but the xm4’s are the sweet spot - still foldable unlike the xm5’s

  • +3

This is definitely a stock-clearing price. Almost no other real stock from other distributors. JB Hi-Fi getting rid of trash.

Also don't forget you'll need to replace the filters and they cost $39 per filter and you need to buy two of them.

Would probably get this at $99 since they remind me of tacky-designed headphones from China in the 2000s.

Also, why does this have a 1-star rating on Dyson's own website?

Beamforming enables crystal clear calls in noisy cities

So they direct the sound into my ear?
    How revolutionary!

I'll wait for the next model where Laser Active Noise Cancelling, actually destroys the source of all external noise. First will be Gary on the train taking about that hot chickybabe from marketing he's going to….BAM! Bye bye Gary

  • At this price i'd buy them if they weren't so heavy. 0.5kg is ridiculous but I guess they had to build in all that air purifying tech

  • Buy now Regret Never ! #GrabABargain

    • battery life goes from 50 hours to 2 hours when using the purification mask

    • purifier can not protect you from Covid

    • the mask section isn't filtering out any of the air; it's just blowing the filtered air into the region around our nose and mouth, allowing us to breathe clean air.

    • scam product

      Jesus 🤣🤣🤣

      scam product

Why is it a scam if it does what it advertises to do? It does not say it protects against Covid!
$199 for a name brand quality ANC headphones is a bargain on its own. Purifier is just a bonus extra, one does not have to use it.
To put it in perspective with one of OB’s favourites, Sony WH1000-XM5, the Dyson is twice the weight, but battery life is 20 hours longer with ANC. Comparison:
      https://www.rtings.com/headphones/tools/compare/sony-wh-1000…

    • I think it’s targeted at purifying air in the shared office

  • +6

thank op got one, good airpod max alternative, can wear it without the mouthpiece guys… In addition, JB does do birthday month coupon which is $10 off, plus shopback plus day which get JB GC for $40. So overall spent for the headphone was $179 for me, hope that helps :)

    • +1

Keen to know how you find them given everyone else here seems to think you MUST wear the mouthpiece and that 500g makes it a no-go for every single person on the planet. If the ANC is actually top notch then they look good value given what Bose and Sony think they can ask these days…

      • +3

I dont really care about the weight since I mainly used it for FIFO travelling and I actually really digging into this design as it stands out. As Dyson started cutting off the product line it is not a bad price for collecting purpose

        • +1

Yeah I'm pretty tempted just for fun. I mean $199 buys you absolutely bugger all in headphone land and maybe my Bose qc35 die tmrw!
Edit - and like you I clearly don't care at all what others think :)

        • +1

Bought! Way too curious. Honestly the build quality sounds superb so I'll just have them as an alternative to my qc35 :)

  • +1

Pretty good idea but looks a bit weird thats all

  • Does Air Purifying when you use it?what is the working time of the battery when you listening and purifying at same time?

    • That's it's downfall, think it's only about 2 hours once you have the purifying on.
I was tempted to purchase at the boxing day sales at twice this price but when I looked at the specs the purifying is clearly designed for height of covid shorts trips to local shops not international flights.
But at $199 I have purchased it as decent headphones with 50 hours battery life. If I chose to use it for virus protection will just put normal mask on .

      • Can you use it without the purifier on?

        • +2

Just read on Dyson site 4 hours air purification. The purifyer can be disconnected and then you look like you have normal headphones on.
The purifyer snaps on/off ( magnets I believe).
From overseas reviews they are more popular in highly polluted cities where delivery riders / drivers turn them on when outside.

          • +5

@d2567: WOW a highly polluted cities delivery riders can afford a RRP$999 headset.

From overseas reviews they are more popular in highly polluted cities where delivery riders / drivers turn them on when outside.

For drivers, they're better off plugging in a 12v air purifier in their cars, and maybe extra filters in their car vents.

For riders, it's purely placebo, given that the mask doesn't have air seal, so virtually all of the "purified" air would just be immediately displaced by "dirty" air.

            • +1

Wow I was wondering how Dyson had dealt with sealing against the wide variety of human face shapes… They just didn't

The clean air is blown onto your face which displaces the dirty air, so you breathe in the clean air. The whole point is to not require a seal so it's more comfortable.

The fact that Dyson didn’t pursue this product line, and instead started yet another headphone line is telling… thanks but no thanks. 🙂‍↔️

  • +2

Not even The Fonz could look cool in that

  • +2

Even the dude in the photo doesnt look thrilled wearing it

  • 2 hour battery life when using the air filtration makes it not practical. It means most will only use this as NC headphones. Which then doesn’t make sense as there are other more practical (and lighter) options around the same price point.

    • might use filter when on crowded train in winter and people are coughing and sneezing, other times use without the removable mask part, and if battery is 50 hrs without filter, 2 hrs with filter, charge when you get to work, designed for commuters. before covid only saw people with masks in asia on trains, now i see australians sometimes on trains with masks.

  • +6

    Don’t buy, save 100%

  • +1

    for 99 id bite

  • -6

These are really popular in Melbourne. Close to 100% of commuters on trams wear them. Someone should buy these up and resell them on Ebay or something. Instant millionaire for sure!

    • +1

people on my train line wear tampods (airpods that look like tampons) and n95 mask, when train crowded e.e no empty seats and people are standing it’s about 30% of people with masks, when train isn’t crowded e.g. some seats are empty it’s 10% wear masks.

  • Does it block out farts?

    • +1

does the sound, they are Noise cancelling, others will still hear you fart and might stare … keep them quiet.

    • Block from going out you mean?

      • I was thinking the smell 😂 with that air purifier filter thing.

  • Seems no stores stock this so you are forced to pay for delivery which makes it $209.

  • +1

good to wear on planes but unsure for $199

  • +1

Don't know whether dyson was making a joke with this headphone

    • Haha, I have to say that was my first impression when I first heard about them esp as they are open.
Had to check it wasn’t April 1st

  • +3

    sweet deal bought.

quit whinging about how bad they look, cheapskates will never look cool, don't lie to yourselves

    • +1

People wearing these will never look cool, don’t lie to yourself

  • +1

seems the air filter is optional attachment, folds down so you might use it on crowded train in winter vs n95 mask and the. headphones. question is how good are the head phones as you wouldn’t buy for the filter, i can only see the filter be in useful on crowded train when people are coughing and i’m wearing headsets anyway for music, other times i’d wear without the filter.

  • Good suction?

    • Dyson make cordless vacuum cleaners so should know about DC motors, seems it sucks in air, filters it and provides clean air to the nose, would not need much.

  • -1

Watch the MKBHD review, which is quite hilarious https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFdnCzfJPJ0

    • +1

MKBHD is boring he killed all fun stuffs

  • this will go well with my apple vision pro and hoverboard

  • I can pay $199 to look like Darth Malak, cool!

  • +6

Almost all the takes here made sense when the price was $500+. But for $200 this is a steal, even the bad reviews note excellent ANC, comfort etc. even if the air purifying feature is a throwaway gimmick (I presume it does help a little bit, but probably not effectively enough to help to a useful degree).

It has Dyson build quality and 50 hr battery life. 4 stars on Amazon. You could do a lot worse for $200…

    • That's what I figure. Looks like a bargain if you like (or don't hate) the look and ok with the weight!

    • My thoughts exactly, just for good quality headphones with a bonus air filter gimmick which might be useful in certain circumstances like using cleaning products it seems like a decent deal esp if you stack it with 10% discounted gift cards and $10 perks voucher it actually starts seeming reasonable but I’m saying that assuming they are really good headphones with the air filter being a bonus. If there were better headphones at $150 and I needed a set I’d probably go with cheaper headphones that sounded/looked a little better.
But totally agree that at $199 they don’t seem anywhere near as ridiculous as they did at $500+
I wouldn’t personally use the air filter attachment in public but could see myself finding reasons to use it while cleaning up and/or spraying chemicals.

      • I wouldn’t personally use the air filter attachment in public but could see myself finding reasons to use it while cleaning up and/or spraying chemicals.

Please don't do this. This isn't what you think it is.

        • I’m not suggesting for 1 second putting myself in dangerous situations and assuming this device would protect me, I’m more suggesting for situations where I would be exposed anyway ie activities I already do without a mask it would be interesting to see if this thing was helpful at removing odours ect while cleaning using sprays ect
I’m not suggesting I’m going to paint my car and use this instead of appropriate breathing apparatus.

  • +3

I went through some of JB hifhi's reviews, some people used it while doing house keeping works as they are pretty sensitive to dust. Air purifier feature could be pretty handy for people with bad dust allergies while still enjoy a level of comfort on their faces

    • I guess a dust mask would probably work better and be less cumbersome. But it is slightly harder to breath through a face mask

      • yes, I wear glasses and mask usually fogs then up, wonder if this would be better based on where air is expelled.

  • I heard these are extremely heavy, doesn't sound great if you intend to wear it on a daily basis?

    • not intended for every where, just crowded or dusty places, the air filter removes if not needed, it clips on if just going for a walk or sitting at home.

    • If you think 500g is extremely heavy sure. I mean there are still ppl in third world countries that carry huge baskets of things on their heads that far surpass this. Weight is merely one factor impacting comfort. Pads and fit matter too.

  • If these are really good quality headphones then I guess it could be a bargain as they are no doubt cleaning them out because the air filter part didn’t really succeed but personally I find them pretty ugly.
$199 isn’t bad for high quality headphones after all.

  • Cheers for the heads up bought. These are almost identical to the newer ontrac ones except they got rid of the airpurifier in those. Im sure if you were game and have a soldering iron could turn them into ontracs lol but meh 199 delivered with perks sign up is a bargain.

    • Wonder if the Ontrac replacement pads work on these. Otherwise you’d be shit out of luck when they need replacing.

      • Having checked a teardown of the zone and a review of the ontrac the mechanism for the earcups is the same 2 long bars top and bottom and 2 short bars each side. Its literally the same headphones just the ontrac doesnt have the airfilter.

Even the ontracs have references to the zone under the changable colour plates. Would be good if could strip filters and fan out and just have headphones, cheap way to get those "new" $700 ontracs lol

        • There must be some angle grinder deals around! 😜

          • @cnut: What would you need an angle grinder for lol.
