    • I’ve been thinking the same thing after watching and reading lots of reviews, not just with the weight but the phones themselves look massive with the fans on the back. I can’t find much info on removal of the actual fans though, just a teardown video which looks like it would need some soldering work and would involve going in through the speaker side…which is a bit beyond my capabilities.

Also, I’ve only found the one 3d printed cap as an alternative to the vented covers once the fan is removed and can’t find any other info online.

Do you have any more resources or experience that you can share?

      • Does not require soldering to remove the fans - there is a just a 3 or 4 pin plug that has to be removed, which he glosses over pretty quickly in the video.

The reason he started unsoldering the speaker side is because he was looking for the battery. You dont have to do that.

        • Great to hear. What have you done with the vents/ caps? Removing the fans reduces weight but the cans are still huge!

I saw that replacement covers can be bought for the Ontrac phones, any idea if they are compatible?

@pepto: I don't think the ontrac caps will fit because the zones have a cutout for the face cover which the ontracs don't. I think you'd need to cutaway some of the metal housing around the ear cup to make the ontracs caps fit on the zones.

Maybe if you 3d print something, but it might get too bulky…

@Joehax: Yeah and also the Ontrac look like they have a different cutout, for where the headband connects. So you'd probably have to 3D print an adapter to fill that space too.

              • @caprimulgus: Thanks guys, seems like a lot of work so these are only really a go if you can deal with wearing the huge cans. Probably not for me in that case, I’ll probably wait around for a deal on some Sony WH XM4 or Bose QC.
