                  • @Droz: I like Sonos Ace as well, they sound nice when i tried them at JB but the price tag is too expensive when comparing to Dyson Zone. Just my opinion.

                • @MasterScythe: Rtings measured them, they found them surprisingly flat except for the highs. You can change that with the EQ in the app or with an EQ app like Wavelet.

          • @Dumpshid: I definitely can’t find one that doubles as an air purifier and weighs at least 2x more than normal phones . But better sound quality and comfort is easy, refurbished Sony wh1000xm4’s would do the job.

            • @Arcticviper: MX4 is cheap bcause you buy refurbished one, regular price is not cheap at all. I am not saying Dyson Zone is the best but $199 for brand new pair, it is a bargain. For the weight, if you have sore neck from 600grams, you need more neck exercise 😁, Air purifyer is a joke, i agrred.

              • @Dumpshid: Think of it as workout for your head.

          • @Dumpshid: Final Audio UX2000
            Sennheiser Accentum Plus

            And that's at full retail.

            • @jasswolf:

              And that's at full retail.

              The Sennheiser is $279.

The UX2000 doesn't have good ANC and feels cheap and flimsy.

So it really depends on what you're after in a pair of headphones.

              • @eug: Mostly I want audio that doesn't leave me wanting to throw up, everything else from there is a bonus.

My bad on the Accentum Plus, confusing sale pricing… at $279 you'd be better off hunting a Momentum 4 deal.

The Dyson has no technical performance and is a beta test that genuinely and figuratively sucked.

                • @jasswolf: Crinacle seems to think otherwise, hes listed these ad technically great

                  • +1

@Feeblely: C+? No, that's mediocre, and reflective of what you shouldn't pay more than $100-$200 for, even with ANC.

Now combine that with the dead weight of the turbine and attachment system and you're struggling.

Momentum 4 on sale is a much better value product for technical performance.

                    • @jasswolf: Not C+, he gave no rating specifically but put it above all consumer headphones he tried. The graphs track close to harmon target too.

At $99 I'd get them for a laugh and take a gamble on being able to make them usable, but at $199 you might as well just wait for a sale on Bose SEs.

      • +9

        wh10000xm5 gang personally

        • Have they ever been down to around $200 though?

        • +2

probably a personal thing but for me xm5s are uncomfortable to wear over few hours (focussed work sessions etc) compared to the bose QC/SE ones. I have realised I tend to use my 10 year old QC35 originals compared to XM5s these days even though NC is subpar.

      • Got the Bose se. They’re good. But from reviews it says this is above its weight class - sounds as good as 5-600$ headphones so yeah worth a try. Can always return them if reviews are bad.

    • -8

Over the ear headphones are strict no cause of their weight. Scarbir does enought reviews to let you pick best of TWS

      • +3

My QC45s are the most comfortable and unobtrusive headphone/earbuds I've found for long flights. Far better than any earbuds for comfort over a 3+ hours.

        • Ditto AirPod Max’s, which despite the weight are very comfortable on.

        • Yep I think the QC SC is quite comfortable, but strangely in one occasion that when I use it for videogaming, I would feel a faint, pressing pain on the top of my head, after like merely 40-60 min of use. But I also use it for gym or other stuff which keeps it on for longer, without that discomfort. So I'm just hesitant that this Dyson one would smash the top of my head LOL.

      • On ear are typically less comfortable than over ear for most people.

      Too early for April Fools

    • Are they gonna end up on Facebook marketplace for double the price?

    • You will hear the sound of the fans more than the music.
      Just a toy.

      • Have you tried it?

    • Cosy for winter.

      Bought on the last sale.

They make my Bose Qc35 II seem very cheap. The build is much more heavy and premium. The sound is great too. I use them. Primarily for Warzone and it's significantly better.

As to removing the fans and replacing with a 3d printed backplate, I've found the print/fit to be fairly tricky and not just a simple switch out

      • Can you elaborate on what issues you had with the 3D print?

I saw there was a comment on the 3D print site saying that the friction fit didnt work well - but that user said they just used doublesided tape to hold it, and it was fine.

(Just thinking whether it's worth it to get a set printed or not. The weight is not as big a deal for me as I thought it would be.)

        • +2

I print a lot and do lots of precision. But some of the walls are just too small for friction fit to work. The only way to make it work well would be super gluing the thin wall sections to the headphones themselves

Mine are holding on via friction, but it's not flush and doesn't look that great when you look closely

          I'll post imgur later

They do filter, but theres got to be issues with fitment and a simple mask would be just as good.

I would buy them in a heartbeat if they werent a useless product

          • +1

            @Franc-T:

They do filter, but theres got to be issues with fitment and a simple mask would be just as good.

When I do a big cleaning round at home I normally wear a mask as it's very dusty in some outdoor areas. The problem is my N95 mask gets stuffy and the elastic band digs in.

I tried these Dyson headphones and they're literally a breath of fresh air. It's not stuffy like the N95 mask and I listen to podcasts anyway so the headphones are just what I need.

Of course wearing headphones outdoors in summer also gives you warm ears, but at least you don't breathe out moist warm air through your ears.

So while an N95 mask filters just as well, I find these much more comfortable to use.

            • @eug: An actual user review, thank you for posting.
Have you purchased replacement filters or any thing else? If so, original or 3rd party?

              • +1

@andresampras: I haven't; the Absolute+ combo comes with a spare set of filters. I'll probably vacuum the filter a couple of times to get the larger particles out and extend the lifespan a bit.

            • @eug: They used to have a "Community Face Covering". It would be perfect for your case.

            • @eug: If it helps I bought it after reading your review. Didnt want to admit it till they arrived.

I bought them to wear around home esp if another bushfire comes.

The sound is definitely top tier (my usually headphones are corsair virtuoso xt rgb's and Hyper X cloud - swap them when batteries run out).

      • +2

        neither a good headphone

You're obviously making this up because the majority of reviews praise the sound quality.

    • good for halloween

    • Why on dog's earth would anyone think consumers wanted that combination of products?

    • I just wear my scuba tank on the train.

When the UK was trucking money to billionaires during covid the taxpayer footed the development bill to rush this to market and save humanity. Thanks James Dyson, go enjoy your georgian estate, french winery and tax exempt business structures.

      • +3

You forgot about how he’s the biggest owner of farmland in the UK now.

Oh and he moved Dyson to Singapore to save on tax haha.

    • +5

      For $199 they’re worth it.

      Pros:

      • Good sound for the price
      • Premium quality build
      • Don’t actually have to use the mask bit
      • Nice case
      • Apparently same or similar insides to new models with no mask

      Cons:

      • No 3.5mm jack, wireless only
      • A bit hard to tell if they’re off
      • Can get heavy, but you can offset it with neck exercises at the gym
      • If you use the mask in public, people will think you’re a di*khead
      • +1

You can use wired but need to use the expensive Dyson USB C to USB C + 3.5mm audio. You can't use your own USB C to audio cable. Which is also a con.

        • +1

The USB C to 3.5mm cable comes with the Absolute+ model which also costs $199. Just select the Explorer Case version. You can see the cable in the second photo.

          • @eug: Yep. Can just get the Absolute+ model for the same price. Just letting people know that you can use wired with the Dyson Zones but that you can't use your own cables. Dyson really out here being the Apple of household electronics lol.

            • @marshmall0w2: Ah cool. Didn’t know that model existed. I don’t remember seeing it when the last deal was around.

              • @cnut: It got added a few days affer the original deal.

              • @cnut: Yeah lol, I use a DAC AMP and the wired connection is imperative.

    • These things weigh a ton.

Nuclear winter is approaching, the doomsday clock is one second closer to occurring (January 2025 update)!
Stock up now on supplies -especially toilet paper

    • Could consider for $100 nothing more. Dyson sure knows how to overprice the hell out of all their products

      • -1

        Dream dream dream 🤣

      • It's a waaaaaaay better headphone than anything you can get for even $200

    • For just an ANC headphone, I am tempted.

    • I am so sick of seeing these on Brisbane trains. I'm the only commuter not without these and apple vision at this point.

I guess I'll fold and buy them at this price.

      • Do people actually wear them on trains? That'd be a perfect use case but I expected people to be too self-conscious to wear them.

  • Can someone confirm the ANC and/or EQ still works when the in-flight adaptor is used? You would think it would for a set of cans at their original price point (a lot of cheaper ones do not have this feature), but the answer from the manual isn't really clear:

"Please note that the audio controls on your Dyson Zone™ headphones with air purification will not function when the In-flight adaptor is in use."

    • +1

I haven't tested with the adapter, but it means that the joystick doesn't work with selecting traccked on the device you're plugged into, as the analog headphone jack doesn't receive control input. ANC should work, as it's independent of that, and just requires the headphones to be "on".

      • That makes sense, cheers.

  • +2

For $200 these are great after removing the fans and housing. They're far too heavy and bulky for regular use if you leave all that stuff on IMO.

The noise cancelling is way better than my QC 35s and the sound quality is excellent after a bit of EQ tuning.

They're still quite heavy due to all the metal, but I rate them. I don't think there are as many comparable quality options at $200.
