  • I ported out last Tuesday. Ported back in this morning. Nil questions asked.

They’re using another piece of software to store your surname and number to monitor gift card activations?

    • Yeah, I think it's for record-keeping for both the gift card activations and the commission payable to the staff member.

  • Any way of sgning up to this online/phone chat? I'm away on holidays and an hour away from the closest JB Hifi store!

  • Hello all, i am about to go try this to get a ps5 pro, i was wondering, how long does an aldi sim card take to activate?

    • I did on a laptop and takes approx 5-15 mins including filling out all the details, setting up account etc.

I just selected don’t recharge. Then you get confirmation page and after 5-10 mins you get email saying activated with the phone number. I put sim into phone and tested it by sending a sms to it.

You will need that sim when you go into jb because they’ll send a 2 factor code to it when signing up to their plan/porting.

      • ok thanks, and i know this has been asked and answered a million times, but i just wanted to triple check, you only need to pay the first month(sometimes not even that), not the 2 years?

        • For each sim that you port over you pay the $89 for the first month.

So when you’re with them you put in your card or bank account details. Then the second/third sims have that payment option saved. So I got 3x $89 charges that are sitting as pending. Ask for physical sims, that way they can write the numbers on them as you go. You’ll take these out of the store with you. I don’t mention anything about cancelling, just said I’m porting 3x from Aldi. For verifying with Aldi he wasn’t sure at first what detail he needed to confirm port but ended up being DOB instead of account number (6 digits) - I kept it all in a google sheet to have handy if I needed.

You have to wait for each one to port over in store, takes like 5 mins each. Then once ported they’ll get you the gift cards.

Then after, get the Telstra app, open the chat, say I want to cancel x number, they’ll say there’s a $766.59 termination fee. I didn’t even give a reason for cancel. They said anything else to help with today, I then said cancel 2nd number, they then asked if I wanted to cancel 2 and 3 as well and said yes.

Then I asked about refunding the $89 because I didn’t use the service and he said he’d personally follow that up and email me confirmation, don’t think he could do it on the spot because they were pending.

About two hours later I got 3x emails for the $766.59 charges payable in 10 days and if not paid will be debited from payment method on file.

Also got the person who signed my up to price match Costco for iPhones. He said they don’t normally but I assume he got a bit of commission off the phone plans so I got him to price match but I was picking up from another store.

  • Anyone hold the gift cards for a while after cancellation. Wondering if they would cancel the gift cards. The tv I want not on sale yet :(

    • +4

The gift card will not be cancelled don't worry I used after one year.

    • You paid $800 and there is no reason for them cancel your gift cards

  • I signed up for this deal 2 years ago, and the contract expired yesterday. What’s the best way to get back onto this deal tomorrow? Should I port out and then port back in, or should I try get a new number and then try and bring my existing number across to the new contract?

  • Am trying this today - bought 3x $5 prepaid aldi and ported all in jbhifi store. Got the $1200 credit x3 waiting on app to cancel. Will update once done. Update: cancelled successfully again through jb hifi app $799.92 per cancellation.

You could also get a new sim card in store without porting and get $1000 credit so $200 worse but a little bit easier - don't have to port.

Did the same deal on black Friday with no issues, signed up for 2x $89 24 month plans and got 2x $1200 store credit. Cancelled same day through the jbhifi app - quick and easy - paid $799.92 x2 to telstra 10 days later.

My actual phone plan is with jbhifi so they haven't been charging me the $89 first month fee for the phones it doesn't charge you that until the day your actual phone plan would be charged.

  • How do I cancel the plan?

    • +1

Go to the jb app, get help, message us and ask to be disconnected. They have some questions but its quick and easy mate

      • Cheers. Do they refund the first month too?

        • +1

Do not use jbhifi app. Call telstra you have better chance of getting the 1st month refunded

          • +1

@ffagz: I have jb hi fi plan as i said. I have now done this twice and haven't had to pay the first month either time since it charges that when my actual bill is due 🤷‍♂️

  • +2

Got 2 aldi sims. Ported in.

My cancellation fees are $766.59 + $799.92 & they offered to refund both $89. Although it’s abit weird my cancellation fees are not both $766. I’m still happy to get the first month refund. They said once it’s finished pending they will submit refund for those first months. I’m still a happy camper :). I also still have my gift cards left over from previous pixel 9 pro deal. So I can use all these at once now. Soo happy

    • Call Telstra or chat or JB or?

      • I downloaded Telstra app and live chat with them. The key is to use smiley faces

    • How come one of your plans was $799. Just wondering how they calculated that price? Isnt it suppose to be $766

      • Yeah it’s weird but she wouldn’t say why it was just what I was charged, if you look through the comments other people also had to pay 799. But as they were refunding me first months payment I didn’t complain.

    • I've had this a few times. Sometimes if you're doing multiple sign-ups at once, they only charge you upfront for the first service and any further services are just charged on your first bill. It wasn't like this previously

  • +1

My tip to get the first month refunded is insert plenty of smiley faces and be super friendly, and make sure to say you never even put the SIM card in or used the service at all. You signed up for the plan and realized it’s not for you etc. once they say you have to wait for the $89 to finish be pending. You can use that response when you contact them back to ensure you get a refund. It’s ultimately hit or a miss with each staff. But being friendly helps.

    • +2

Also I downloaded the Telstra app and used the live chat on there.

      • +1

And drop merry Xmas and exactly right with the happy faces and hearts.

Telstra app is also great tip as well

  • +1

Ported out to vodafone today 11pm from this same plan. Had 1 day remaining on contract. Just signed back up and ported back. They didnt check anything only that i didnt have an active service on my current telstra account. Hope that helps anyone thinking of doing this

  • +1

Just so everyone is aware - 3x per customer - if you get 3 numbers, you get a credit check done 3 times it seems.

  • +1

Juat completed live chat with telstra csr. Provided me the $766.59 cancellation fee and i was super nice as well and asked for the first month refunded. Also said the charge is currently pending so contact again after 72 hours and they will gladly provide refund of $89. What a bonus that it! $433 profit and used the $1200 GC to buy the Samsung Galaxy s24+ today at $1247. Might try to do this again tomorrow

    • Did the smiley faces help

    • The better play would have been 3 X in a day

      • The ozbargainer in mr wants to go to Aldi and get the $5 starter pack rather than paying $10 amaysim pack. Now that it works, i will rinse and repeat

        • The real OG bargainer would bring their entire extended family & the neighbors 3x aldi sim packs each and rinse and repeat this at the local jbhifi. Each time coming in with a different wig.

  • I actually have a question about buying new sim cards. Is it possible to buy a $2 vodafone prepaid sim which has no dollar value and use that to port over. I know jb staff need to send a text to the number to initiate the port. Receiving text messages is always free so wondering if that would work without buying a plan or spending $5 instead from aldi

    • +1

I have better option for you,get 7 days esim Optus network trial and port the number to JB hi Fi for free.

      • My shitty phone doesnt have e-sim capability

      • Does this really work? Can we port while in network trial?
Did you try and tested this option?
        TIA

  • Hmm $400 profit for a new credit enquiry on your credit file - difficult choice. Was definitely worth it for the the $783 Pixel 8 Pro on release day but this is about 1/3 of the profit

    • -2

My mortgage interest rate went up by 0.35% due to the credit checks but at least I made $1200 immediate profit

  • -1

I don't understand why this is a deal. $1200 JB gift card worths $1100 maximum, so you are really paying over $1000 for 2 years SIM plan. For people who really want a lot of data, Felix provides unlimited data for $40 per month (with first 3 months $20).

    • so you are really paying over $1000 for 2 years SIM plan

So $41.66 per month (or $39 per month at the actual value of the gift card)

      Felix provides unlimited data

      No they don't. They provide

Unlimited mobile data at speeds up to 20Mbps

That's different as you are always only getting 20Mbps

for $40 per month (with first 3 months $20).

So $4.16 per month extra over 24 months (or $1.50 per month at the actual value of the gift card)

For a slower mobile service at all times.
Telstra is also unlimited data (though after 300gb it's much slower then Felix)

Assuming Felix doesn't increase their price
And with no access to Telstra rewards which may give you things of monetary value.

  • I couldn’t get the $89 refunded but cancellation was 766.59. Has anyone started another chat after agreeing to pay cancellation and gotten the $89 refunded?

    • +1

I have in the last one. They kept denying it, I just kept playing the financial difficulty card, which is kinda understandable in this cost of living. Just keep asking stress you never even plugged the SIM card in or used the service, I found it’s easier in Telstra chat. Last I remember the first two reps denied me but the third gave sympathy asked a supervisor and got my refund. You gotta keep trying and be extremely nice.

      • You gotta keep lying

        Fixed that for you

        • "Duh it's the company's fault for making you want it so much."

      • thanks! I just spoke to them and was very nice and played the financial difficulty card and got the $89 refunded - took about 10 mins. Winning!

        • Great! Was it through Telstra or JBHIFI chat?
They keep pushing me to visit instore:-(

          • +2

@Kousikme007: the initial dude i canceled with - pointed to the T+Cs and saying it's non refundable. Reached out today in the Telstra app again and it worked first go.

  • Are we able to use the Gift card later after we have cancelled this plan?

    • Yes, although it is marked as "maximise shame" for the checkout person.

      • Thanks. :) :) :)

  • Just ported in again - 2 years ago, we were able to request additional $10 or $20 discount per month via Telstra chat. Do they still do this? Has anyone had any success getting additional monthly discount?

  • -3

Got 3 gift cards for 3 port ins

Been chatting with Telstra reps (I believe) via my telstra app, they keep rubbing CIS on me and saying you signed to pay for initial payment and were ok to have $89 not refunded. They won't even put me to their managers 😔

Haven't canceled the services yet , hoping I keep trying different reps and may succeed😔😉

    Any suggestions or ideas?

    • they keep rubbing CIS on me and saying you signed to pay for initial payment and were ok to have $89 not refunded

They are correct, you did agree to that

      When will I pay
You’ll be charged for the first month when you order

When you cancel, your service will be disconnected immediately. We won’t refund any money you’ve already paid

Nowhere does it say they will refund you.

      Any suggestions or ideas?

      • Read and understand the CIS
      • Stop abusing promotions that will end up being stopped for everyone
      • Eat healthy
      • Quit smoking
      • Don't use your mobile phone when driving

        Hi @spaceflight

Not sure why you are worked up

I m just asking if someone has figured out golden line they used on Telstra Chat to get first month refunded, some of the previous comments in this and previous (same) deal people have managed to do it and I was just looking for more info on those comments

Thanks for suggestions though mate, appreciate it 😀

Either way have a good new year and my suggestion for the 2024,save your emotions

        • +2

Not sure why you are worked up

Thanks for your concern, but I'm not worked up

I m just asking if someone has figured out golden line

          There is no golden line.
You're talking to a human, not AI

they used on Telstra Chat to get first month refunded, some of the previous comments in this and previous (same) deal people have managed to do it and I was just looking for more info on those comments

Sometimes humans don't follow the rules.
They aren't supposed to refund you the first month, you agreed to forfeit what you had already paid when you agreed to the CIS.

Thanks for suggestions though mate, appreciate it 😀

          Anytime!

Either way have a good new year and my suggestion for the 2024

          You too!
I hope you still aren't wasting your time and Telstra's time when 2025 comes.

          save your emotions

So do I not tell my family that I love them?

          • @spaceflight: The above is a textbook example of how to tell people you are mad you don't have the confidence to get a deal like this without saying it directly. So jealous lol.

            • -2

@ensanguined: You couldn't be more wrong. I'm not jealous because I don't want a 'deal' like this.

I value my credit score over a few hundred dollars of free money.
The free money from this deal is easily lost due to credit score impacts.

I also value my time over spending hours on live chats for a few extra dollars to make up for the credit score impact.

The people signing up for multiple accounts with the intention of cancelling and then even pushing to get the first month refunded (some people even claiming hardship) is textbook fraud.

              • +2

@spaceflight: I’ve done this at least ten times and credit score still excellent here

                • +3

@Fancydancer: Same lol did it once in previous deal and twice during this. Credit score is excellent hasn't been affected at all. As long as you pay the cancellation fee it’s all good. I suspect spaceflight is salty watching us all walk away with them juicy gift cards.

    • I would still proceed with cancellation imo. And try in the jbhifi mobile app live chat as well. Stress you made a bad financial decision and never even plugged in the SIM cards. But I would cancel asap imo.

  • So I connected today and looking to use the $1200 gc for a new phone. I asked the girl at JB what is stopping people from rorting the system, apparently it ruins your credit rating.

    • +2

I asked the girl at JB what is stopping people from rorting the system, apparently it ruins your credit rating.

Yes every credit enquiry is recorded on your credit file and can impact your credit score.

If you want to see your score from both major credit bureaus Wisr is a good website to use.
      https://wisr.com.au/credit-scores

  • Just signed up in-store a few hours ago. Deal is extended until this Sunday 29/12. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/upfront-mobile-plans

  • -1

Is this good bargain ? turns out to be about $39 per month (24 months)
I am assuming the 300G is for 12 months (upfront) and not 24 months? So 25G per month.

but it's the Everyday Mobile better ? 365 days pre-paid $230 i.e $19 per month. 215G upfront or 18G each month. +5% discount on gift cards at Woolworths

    • +1

      Pretty sure 300gb/mth isn’t it?

    • +1

300GB per month for each of the 24 months of the contract

  • Seems they've plugged the hole where you could get around the port in requirement by swapping an existing number on to the new plan. Have done this a few times in the past with no issue but staff in both the Telstra app and the JB app are telling me they cannot and directing me to the store.

  • Can someone please walk me through how to do this?

So buy a 5 dollar sim card, sign up at JB and port in that number, then cancel the plan through telstra and pay 800 dollar fee? I'm confused as the contract for JB says you need to pay it back in proportion to months.

    Thanks in advance

    • +1

Nope. You just have to pay a voucher repayment fee which could be $766 or $799, but they will let you know when you cancel. If you are super kinda you can also get the $89 first month refunded or keep trying with different live chat reps. I bought Aldi SIM card activated it, walked into jbhifi signed up and immediately cancelled it on Telstra app live chat 1hr after getting it from jbhifi. They will then email you cancellation confirmation and you have to pay the $766 or $799 fee sometime in the next fortnight.

  • Can confirm ported to Aldi prepaid last night. Ported back to jb mobile today for voucher. No issues. Wanting to keep my number and happy with the $89 plan

  • +2

    yesterday:

    • bought 2x ALDImobile $5 sim
    • store wouldn't price-match Costco, only reduced iPhone 16 Pro 256gb down to $1990, but also offered 50% off accessories (e.g. case, screen protector, charger, cable, power bank) - went with Belkin dual 65W and 60W, using $10 Perks as well for each

    today:

thanks for everyone's comments on this deal and previous ones :)

Does anyone know how it works if it takes a long time to port in which usually does not work on Sunday and we have to wait until the next day?

    • +2

Your port will take place on the Monday

    • +2

They’ll give you the GC once port complete, one of mine was about four days. Others have been almost instant.

    • Thanks guys!

  • +1

Is this okay for 2 person household?
We are light to medium users. Planning to get this as use a phone as hotspot and replacing my broadband plan.
I do use the internet for streaming services and WFH. Currently paying $110 a month for 100mps with Telstra on NBN.

Is there a way I can get a modem so internet is always available at house instead of replying on a phone?

    • there are 5G modems, but nbn is more reliable

  • Today is the last day.
Sunday, porting seems not working today.
Submitted the order, but order showing in progress.
The JB hifi guy let me come back to store for the gift card later after the number got ported.

    • I ported my previous Job hi-fi deal (2 years ended yesterday) to Aldi this morning hoping it would go through today, which it did in about 5 mins and walked over and signed back up without issues.

Was waiting to get some flack about ported out 10 mins before but the guy didn't care

Why is such a standard thing pasted in bold and huge text?

  • Felix mobile messed up my port out. JB Hifi cancelled my order. sigh.

    • Out of curiosity. What happened with Felix?

      • something about an incomplete port - even though the number works and all with Felix.

I went all-in with this deal.
Managed to get 3+3, 1200 Jb hi-fi gift card at 34% off.

The trick was to be persistent. During this mad rush, it took me 2 visit, 3 hours each to get gc, decide on order, negotiate and arrange for delivery at other locations due to unavailability of item, online only item etc.

    My purchases.

    Lenovo 7i pro - $4350 - > 2871(34% off via GC) https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lenovo-legion-7i-pro-16-w…

    Samsung tab S10 Ultra 5g - 1850 -> 1221(34% off via GC) https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-galaxy-tab-s10-ul…

    Fitbit Versa 4 - 238 -> 157(34% off via GC) https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/fitbit-versa-4-pink-sand-…
I am travelling overseas with these, so another 10% off via TRS. Any tips for easy TRS claim is highly appreciated.

I am pretty frugal in my tech purchases. Over the last 8-9 years, all I remember is following purchases.

    A refurbished lappy - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/730399
    A router https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/849967
A monitor (later returned and refunded) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/572408
    A Phone https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/803565

I think these tech should keep me sustained for another 6-8 years.
Seems like an above par deal to me. What do you guys say?

Edit: Thanks to the great community and the OP!

Well done, that’s an absolute checkmate way to get all the gear you need and claim trs. It’s funny because I’m doing the same thing, from my previous experience it helps to have an invoice with your name on it matching your passport and the jbhifi abn on it.

      • Thanks @Bonesaw321. I guess I have to ask Jb to process one in that format.

      • when claiming trs can the product be opened or does it have to be sealed in a box?

    • Didn’t know a laptop with a 4090 card is considered ‘frugal’ :). But what a bargain isn’t it? Lots of effort but worth it imho.

      • Frugality is stumped by opportunity here. Less than $2450 for a 4090 lappy, one can't ask for more mate!

  • Missed out :( wonder what the gift card is after the 1st Jan 2025

  • It seems like I messed up. Because I used my primary mobile number. I can’t cancel it, as doing so would make me lose it. Has anyone successfully ported out instead of cancelled?

    • +1

You sure can port out to your choice of provider. once port out is successful, you will get invoiced from Telstra for $766.40

You may not get to initial payment of $89 refunded as you are actively using the service.

  • +1

for those who bought an iPhone 16 Pro < 2wks ago, contact JB for price difference refund :)

    • I can’t seem to find that mentioned on their website, I do find references to it via google searches on random news sites and some reddit posts. Can you let me know how you went about this, in store or via online chat.
