    good deal…

    yeah, good deal

  • Even cheaper

    Better than ZenWifi XD4?

  • +1

    Better than Deco M5?

  • +1

    Reviews are not great tho..

  • +1

    This vs deco x50?

    • +4

deco. I've had better experience with deco compared to D-Link mesh systems.

      • Yeah, but you’re not taking into account this supports OpenWrt.

        • Got a link to material on setting this up in a “can’t think of the real name for the approach for roaming between ap that isn’t mesh…because mesh is something else and we shouldn’t call home meshes mesh” using openwrt?

Is it upload firmware go or lots of futzing around

        • Not everyone knows how to do openwrt and most people will just want things to work out of the box.

          • @johnisbest: And some people do.

            • +1

              @PainToad: Agree, but a majority won't.
Normally reviews is a good indication of how well a product performs.
Openwrt support is nice if you know how to install it and utilise its features but doesn't necessarily make the device better or perform better.

        Same, Deco better.

Everyone is calling their product AI these days, even the old router can be called AI.

Yup, the new buzzword to differentiate the new plastic from "2000", "intelligent", "3D", "smart" plastic.

    • +1

The whole IT stock market is based on buzz word.
Before AI there was "Data" and every company was making a loss just to obtain your data.

However I do think AI has a real future, because I am using it more than "data" or "VR" or "3D".

      • Wait you you see the 2025 "new and improved" model. 🙄

  • Great deal, thanks!

Seems cheap but can't find much reviews… other online stores selling for sub $150 like scorptec and jwcomputers.
My deco M5s are still capable and reliably achieving the throughput demand of my networked devices (which aren't wifi 6 compatible either) - can't find enough justification for these over the decos.

      • +1

Yeah not exactly glowing… Was going to grab for mum's house as the WiFi there sucks a bit using a twin pack of TP-Link range extenders that don't seem to work very well.

    • …I should clarify for my personal use case and existing deco set-up, I can't find justification on getting these for myself… but maybe beneficial and good value for the peeps with mostly wifi 6 enabled devices.

  • Would this be better than an Asus AIMesh setup? Pretty sure we are using two RT-AX56U currently

    • I am interested to know this also. I currently have an ASUS RT-AX55 (AX1800) and was considering getting 2x RT-AX1800S to create a mesh network. Which would the better way to go?

    • +1

      Aimesh would be better.
Asus is better than D link.

  • +3

Find the reviews before you buy the D-Link Eagle kits.

I was going to buy one because D-Link is a reputable brand and these are by far the cheapest, but then I saw multiple stories of drop outs and constant reboots due to poor firmware and then I remembered all the trouble I had with D-Link ADSL routers back in the day.

I decided it wasn't worth the risk at that point, but this is an even better dirt-cheap deal so maybe you roll the dice.

    • I was going to buy one because D-Link is a reputable brand […] then I remembered all the trouble I had with D-Link

Nemo, is that you? Have you found your dad yet?

    • +3

      due to poor firmware

      It supports OpenWrt firmware.

      • That doesn't mean much, the built of OpenWRT for this system seems very experimental.

  • +1

mine just died 10 min ago, opened ozb to search for modem bargain and saw this, could not resist the temptation to share the news lol

    • How is your experience. Just bought 2 x 3 packs to maximise my 1 gigabit connect

      • didn't like it, at least to my use, the parental control did not work well and limited option.
coverage wasn't great either, i could have the faulty one though.

      • Adding additional nodes that you don't need will actually lower your speeds and not maximise your 1gbit connection.

        • Thanks I will keep that in mind. I could offload it to my mum house, as their wifi need some serious upgrading.

          • @ChickenAdobo: I have a gigabit connection and wireless mesh isn't the way to go. I luckily have internal ethernet cabling and that helped me create a mush stronger network.

            • @abs898: Can’t afford that at the moment. It would be on my list after finishing outside and then the home battery & water tank. Would be a good upgrade to Cat 8 all the rooms with dual socket.

  • +1

Don’t people…. I’ve put up with their Eagle Pro range for too long before I switched to ASUS. There’s nothing AI or good about them but constant drop outs, poor speed, needing to reboot frequent. Was a nightmare. Save yourself time and money, don’t get these.

    • I’m guessing you didn’t install the OpenWrt firmware.

      • Hey PainToad, quick question if you can answer, do you know whether OpenWrt on these would support multiple vlans? So I could use them as wireless APs?

  • One of my extra deco M5 has been acting up lately when my devices are connected to it, speeds drop dramatically whether it is connected to the main deco via wifi or ethernet. So I've removed it from the network. I've factory resetted it but the speed drops still occur. This D-Link system is tempting but it seems like it has some bad reviews as well. Overall my TP-Link experience has been good except for this one unit. Maybe I'll just add a new deco in the future.

    Thanks for the deal.

It appears to be supported by openwrt (only very recently so there may still be issues), but will see when they arrive.
    https://openwrt.org/toh/hwdata/d-link/d-link_eagle_pro_ai_m3…

It looks like they are supported to me, so I have ordered a set.

    • +1

Hi mate what's your experience so far?

      • They have been flawless so far. Early issues were due to using the Xiaomi AX3600 as the main router. The M32 are more efficient with memory.
So far they are working great.

  • +1

Thanks OP, took the chance for $119 can’t really go wrong, especially if you update to the latest firmware or try out openwrt on them.

    2 pack is for $87.02 / $81.58 (ebay plus).

      • Gets cheaper by the minute Thanks

      • Looks like there's also a targeted $15 cashback via CBA Yello (previously commbank rewards) with $75 spend for MyDeal

      • Thanks man, perfect for a cheap experiment

    • Is this any good to improve the wifi in my house? My router is kind of in the middle of the house, would 2 be enough?

  • Hate how none of these are modems too anymore

  • +2

I would avoid any D-Link product. I had one of their mesh system and constantly had connection issues. Tech support couldn’t resolve my issue so I sold it and got the tp-link Deco x55 instead. No regrets at all

  • On a budget, what's better, this or the Tenda Nova EX3?

  • +1

This is dumb cheap, maybe I'll have a crack

  • does anyone know if the satellites can be connected to main router using ethernet cable?
as in white port from one of these to the yellow internet port of the satellite.

    • Think the router needs to be specifically compatible with the brand and product. I know Deco will only work with Deco router.

      • Yes, what I meant was if I use one of these as main router and the other 2 are satellites so can they be plugged in to the main router via ethernet for backhaul?

        • +1

Yes that would work as far as I know. Did u order? Looks to be sold out unless u go for the 2 pack.

          • @misguided_will: Yes I did order three of the twin packs 😁
works out to be 5-6$ extra than ordering two of the 3 packs as per this deal, missed out on them.
Thanks for your advice, hopefully it works.

            • @bhakharvadi: Best of luck, hopefully you don't have any of the same issues lots of the reviews seem to say

            • @bhakharvadi: Hi mate, did it work for you?

  • It's only $120 so I'd guess best for that price. The Deco would be better but a lot more expensive.

  • This turned out to be a s*it buy
Despite fiddling with it all day, just wouldn't connect properly, keeps dropping off, both wifi and ethernet. What a waste of a day. Did all the firmware updates also. Garbage. My previous setup was better.

    • My order is yet to be delivered :( Give OpenWrt a go.

      • Will need tech help for it, never done it. Unless there is a clear write up you know of?

    • Sad to hear, my pair still in the post. With the hardware specs if openwrt works they should be good units but it's a bit of stuffing around.

      • Restarted mine this morning, all connected again, waiting for the drop offs to begin, let's see

        • +1

It's been behaving so far, haven't touched it. BUT just 1 device, happens to be the Android phone I used to set it up too, no longer connects stably to wifi. Gets the worst speed when it does connect, and most of the time shows connected but no throughput at all. Switch to mobile data and the phone starts blazing again. All else connecting and going ok so far, desktop, laptop, tablets, phones, ethernet. Beats me.

  • Mine arrived but yet to try out

  • can someone do a step by step guide as to how to use /install openwrt?

  • Mine have arrived and will be installing openwrt, but may not be able to get started until late next week.

    • is it something you can do then back up the file and share with ozbargain ?

      • I dont think so,
Before doing anything I wanted to clarify how to flash it back to stock in case it does not go well (I think I read on the link given that you need to decrypt the stock firmware to be able to flash it back and it looked like it needs a linux install and some tools installed so I may need a bit more time).

When I have a bit more time later next week I am just going to be following theinsanitywolf's links:

The links worked fine, upgrading to openwrt from recovery mode is very straightforward for these.

          • @repeat: Just to update I now have all 3 DLink M32 as well as a Xiaomi AX3600 all running Openwrt 23.05, the ax3600 as the main router with Adguard home for web filtering, and the 3 M32 as wireless access points using wireless backhaul.

            So far so good.

            • @repeat: Hi - just wondering can you actually do that? Using routers of different brands to set up one mesh network?

              • @Ahan: Yes, I have 3x M32 DLink and 1x Xiaomi AX3600 all running openwrt 23.05 and are active in a 4 node 5GHz Wireless Mesh.
There were some initial compatibility problems due to differences in the default wireless settings (Country) between M32 and AX3600 routers.

              • @Ahan: The Xiaomi used more memory than the M32, I found it better to use the M32 for the main router

For those having problems, try turning on the daily reboot schedule.

Edit: Actually, I think the scheduling is stuffed. I have mine set to reboot at 3am Perth time, but it reboots at 11am instead. Which just happens to be 3am in Africa/Abidjan, the first timezone in the list. I guess I'll try setting it to 7pm (3am in Abidjan) and see what happens.
