GST seems to be collecting at a higher than expected rate due to coupon/ discount, so if you are buying for a business it's a bit cheaper.

Make sure you keep in on Add EU adaptor ($50 cheaper than AU), you'll need an AU adaptor but get one for $1 from temu if you need to.

This router was released in 2023 and is an absolute beast for the price, rock solid, obscene wifi coverage (Chinese version so it exceeds Aus Wifi power transmission standards I believe)
Anyway I've set up 4 of these so far for myself and friends and family, at my brothers farm I set them up in a mesh system and it was able to punch through a double brick house to a second unit 100 meters down the farm and provides wifi for hundreds of meters. (limited by the recieving device more than anything)

It's easy to set up but it is all in Chinese, there is no english version and no custom firmware to load on it. Google translate is all you need.
Some advertising list it as Wifi 7 but its not, it supports some partial functions of Wifi7 but don't worry about it, just buy it as a wifi 6 router. 2000/2000 is pretty fast already.

Search Xiaomi 7000 on ozbargain and read comments from the previous deals.

Unsure if there is a successor to this router yet/ in the near future may be something to take into consideration as it is quite old now in computer land.

EDIT: AUAS20 avaliable again for $20 off, down to $170

  • Will this send everything I do online to the CCP?

    • +27

Better than sending it to Trump and Elon.

      • +7

I assume you know about the revelations of Snowden and also Wikileaks around decade ago? The yanks already have it regardless of CCP router or not.

      • 💯

    • +4

The same amount as your current TP link or ISP supplied router does i'm sure.

    • -6

stop using internet if this is a concern

      • +2

Nonsense. Use common sense to protect yourself. Start with appliance without outstanding CVEs, has firewall policies and make effort to monitor your traffic logs.

Upvote to the OP for a great description.

  • I bought this when first launched, upgrading from ax6000.

In the Chinese variant there is no 6e, sk no real world difference between the two.

My Telstra Gateway works way too well for me to need this. But if it didnt. I would totally get this. Xaomi have so much decent stuff. I use lots of their products.

    • +1

Ditto, my Telstra Gen3 has been flawless otherwise I'd definitely get this over the expensive ones.

  • Can I use this to replace my Optus gen 2 modem?
And can I expect better wifi coverage?

  • what mesh systems does this work with?

    • I set it up with its own mesh system, by buying multiple of these, pretty much one button setup on the second unit. I assume it would work with other Xiaomi routers but I wouldn't buy it if you intend to mesh it with something else.

  • +1

    It needs more aerials

How does this compare to the Flint 2?

    • +3

Xiaomi i bought required going through setup in Chinese. App functionality on english version was gimped. Had to use Chinese version of the app to control the router. Apart from all that it was great. Died in a power surge. Bought flint 2 to replace and has been smooth sailing since. Keep in mind I bought the Redmi version which was around $100. At this price point, buy the flint 2

      • Does it not come with a Web GUI?

        • +2

It does, App isn't required. Just connect to http://192.168.31.1/

I believe some routers are coming out now with app only control which is a silly idea IMO.

        • +4

web gui was in chinese. years of chinese study finally paid off

I have this one. really good for the price. just a pitty that given this hardware I couldn't install openwrt to it.

    • For the openwrt, I bought AX-3000T

      • yes, I have 2… 1 bricked |o| and bought another 1 to nbn.
Xiaomi Mi Router BE7000 is my relay.

would be perfect if BE7000 is OpenWRT-able….

  • Seems like a great router - I think i'll wait until wifi 7 (Still rocking wifi 5 aka ac).
Although there are reports that this router will unlock it since it has the hardware. Would wait till then. I don't have any Wifi6E devices.

  • Will this penetrate a concrete wall better than normal routers?

    • +1

Can someone explain to me about wifi transmission power limit of this compared to aus routers, are these more powerful?

    • Yes!!

These Xiaomi routers have 3 signal strengths: Power Saving, Standard and Pass-Wall Performance.

Running 3 of AX6000's at my place and 2 of the BE6500 at another location.

Am someone that switched to these from high end $500+ routers. Having signal strength at 'Pass-Wall Performance' does concern me from time to time health wise. I am getting 950mbps everywhere on Speedtest on a 1000mbps connection.

  • I set them up in a mesh system and it was able to punch through a double brick house to a second unit 100 meters down the farm and provides wifi for hundreds of meters. (limited by the recieving device more than anything)

so i guess, if the wifi client device is limited still in power, the improved tx/rx is only beneficial for a wireless backhaul made of these particular units, as you've said

    • Yea and no.
At my old house (timber) I would get 2000/2000 from my $20 pci wifi card through a couple of walls. Which was a big improvement but hardly a fair comparison to the old $100 tp link router before it.

New house the PC sits up against bricks and only gets about 600 megabit through two brick walls (which is more than enough really)

I'm actually getting a second unit to effectively use as a wifi card for my PC.

Just don't expect to connect to your wifi 200 Meters down the street on an old iPhone.

  • Have been running that router for almost 2 years upgraded from rt-68u. Main reason more ram and way faster processor, which results in higher USB 3 speeds and 2.5gigabit ports. I use as a small server and the throughput is 3x faster than my old over locked rt-68u.
Just the initial setup was annoying. Once you've got internet google translate does the heavy lifting.

I had the be3600, the Chinese sucked when it didnt have internet and couldn't translate after a reset

Great for its price but i prefer my flint 2 with so much options like openvpn, adguard, wireguard, tailscale, guest wifi to seoerate my iot devices

  • Last year I bought 2 of the Xiaomi BE5000 and use it in mesh. It's brilliant and works flawlessly.
It's on sale again so have bought another 2 for my parents, for $60 AUD each with the current coin and coupon discounts etc. $120 for 2 high power mesh routers is a steal!

    • I have this BE7000 currently and looking at buying a cheaper model like your BE5000 to use in a mesh.. do you know if they're compatible? 🤞

      • +1

        Should be ok

  • -3

Brought Xiaomi router before, was calling home a lot more then I was using them internet. Blocking it had no effect on operations.

    • Can someone translate this for me please?

      • Every few minutes the router was sending a data packet outside the network, this could had been a ping or more.

  • I got the be5000 model great bit of kit!

  • Excelent router for the money. I bought this to replace my Xiaomi AX6000 router which was also excellent: This CPU will do 1000/50 QOS without braking a sweat. The somewhat anemic CPU on the AX6000 just could not handle it.
