As of 9 days ago SingTel are still randomly network banning people with "non compliant" 4G phones

Also, TPG/Vodafone is getting access to the Optus regional towers from next month meaning the IMEI/TAC ban lists from both carriers will be combined

If your current device is banned on Vodafone and you're switching to Optus or vice versa, good luck

    • So if my device (Xiaomi) is blocked on Optus (was previously on Amaysim), but now working fine on Voda (switched to Kogan), once Voda get access to Optus' towers it's likely my device will go back to being a paper weight?

      • +2

…it's likely my device will go back to being a paper weight?

SingTel have deliberately not setup a Blocked Device Checker like Telstra Wholesale:

        https://www.telstrawholesale.com.au/3G-Network-Closure-Block…

So no one can answer that question with any certainty

However, your device does carry the risk of being randomly kicked off the home Vodafone or roaming regional Optus networks next year because Optus have already deemed it "not compliant"

        Just get a new phone

  • +8

    Charged per KB.

this should be the standard for all telcos.

    • Why?

      • +4

Browse a simple Web page, you will be charged under KBs, else you will be charged min of MB

  • Not negging but I'm in the TIO process with them due to being unable to port out and then doing sweet f all to work it out.

    • +1

Is this because the ID info Catch Connect has on file doesn't match your actual ID, and they refuse to allow you to correct it?

      • +1

That's what one of the telcos I tried to port out suggested…

        • +1

More network f-kery. What day and age are we in.

        • so the catch connect or catch.com.au account needs to match your real driver licence ID?

      • +1

That happened to me with an account I had for my daughter. In the end I just got her a new number, wasn't worth all the bs

        • Yeah so did I but I had that number 15 years. Mostly annoying them giving bs answers.
Interesting to see if anything happens as the failed port text says its on previous provider but their chat response was everything is okay on their end which doesn't make sense (sent to TIO as proof).

        • What happened? I was looking at getting this for my daughter as she gets a phone for Xmas a Samsung a35 which I purchased from Telstra online. I assume it’s unlocked as I did buy it outright and with my points discount was around $350 myself and wife are with boost but that’s too expensive so was thinking of this.
What do you mean an account for your daughter set up obviously in your name etc? And what happened you mentioned a new number.
I don’t even know what like optus is in my area is there a way to check as I’m sure it will mostly be used in my area.

          • @bwatt72: Before purchasing, I'd check with Telstra if your device is actually unlocked. They stopped mentioning locked devices on their website a while ago. So you really don't know.

            • @petestrash: I’m currently travelling home and went on chat a robot I suppose so asked to talk to agent.
So they may reply the robot said this.

When you purchase a Pre-Paid device from Telstra, it's locked to the Telstra Network. If a device comes on a plan, it's not locked to the Telstra Network.

For help to unlock your device, find your IMEI or unlocking fee go to our Pre-Paid How To page.

I did buy this phone outright and was close to $400 surely me buying a phone is not locked to Telstra

              • @bwatt72: I don't know what they do today, but in the past buying outright was not a guarantee it was unlocked, especially if is was a little cheaper than other retailers dressed up as "sale". As it's not mentioned on their site, I think you would have a good claim to return it if you find that it is locked to Telstra.

        • with catch or another provider?

    • -4

Why would you want to port out?
      There are no better deals.

This plan will no longer be available after next month.

So I nominate a change to Ops post…

DO NOT Turn off auto-recharge after activation

      • Because I was on a different plan and needed to reset it? can't port out and change to a new cheaper plan…

  • How many days do you have to be away from Catch Connect after porting out to be able to port back into this prepaid (or similar) plan?

    • +4

      30 minutes will do.

      • Thank you.

How about other telcos? I think I read somewhere that Telstra is a bit more strict.

        • +1

I've ported out with a $2 Telsra sim a few times, no issues after 30 mins.

    • +1

I got offered a 25% discount on the $150 plan if i recharge. Maybe you got one in your emails or texts? Saves stuffing around with porting.

      • Did you get the email before your plan/data expired or did you have to wait until expiry?

My daughter’s plan is due for renewal in a 2 weeks but haven’t got anything yet.

        • My plan expires on 25 Dec and i got the first text message on 25 Nov, then a second one after 2 weeks. I didnt have a payment method saved and autorecharge was off

          • @summit: Would you be able to check your account to see if you had marketing promos (either via email or SMS) switched on?

            • +1

@DoctorCalculon: Just checked, there are 4 different boxes for Service and Marketing purposes, 2 for each, in the communications settings. All are ticked.

      • Got zilch.

Definitely would save me stuffing around doing the whole CC -> $2 Telstra SIM -> CC dance.

Did you opt for marketing promotions? Maybe I ought to switch those on for next time.

        • +1

          That's a good thought

I also have seen nothing. I bought the $120 deal a few weeks ago and still need to port. I think I'll set up another account and leave marketing turned on and see what happens next year

      • And no better deals available anywhere!!!

  • +4

For anyone else who tried the code and it didn't work (mine said "Object object" in red), as I found out from the comments in the previous deal, this is works via catch.com.au not catchconnect.com.au.

    • An important distinction, thanks for posting.

I thought they were one and the same.

  • Too bad this is only for new customers. My catchconnect auto-renews at $120 tomorrow.

    • just turn off auto-renew. go grab a $2 telstra sim, port out, then port back in. you can still receive sms for days (i think for months) after plan expiry, which is all you need for porting.

    • buy this sim, port to a cheap esim proivider like felix mobile for $10 a month then port back to this

  • -2

For anyone that already shops at woolies, I think this is a great deal.

    https://mobile.everyday.com.au/plans/long-expiry-plans

$230 for 365 days sim, with telstra 4g, but it gets you a 10% discount at woolies up to $50 dollars per month.

    • +3

Even better still having the $170 365 day - pays for itself!

    • +4

It looks like the 10% discount is not offered on the long expiry plans any more, only the 30 day and data only ones.

      • +1

        Correct. Not worth it IMO

      • And the discount is in-store only.

      • +1

        Certainly works on mine

      • Yes this has been my plan for many years. Free mobile if you shop at Woolies.
I did notice they have ended the 10% off on 365 plans = sad
So opted for monthly plan until I work out what to do
At usual shopping rate the 10% will still give free mobile but no more making money on my plan

        • why didn't you continue the offer of $170 plan?

10% is alright if you must shop at woolies each month
else it is cheaper to shop at aldi

    • Been running this for a number of years and I've turned a profit every year and have the Telstra Sim as a second sim in the phone for travelling. (Bad Telstra signal at home unfortunately)

    • woolies new 365 days plans suck now.

      -no 10% off
      -higher price

      no thanks

  • +1

got for 99 few months ago..best deal if you have very limited requirements for data and calls

    • miss the days you could get 60gb for ~$69/year (nice). They keep jacking both the lowest cap and price…

  • Coles Mobile can port to this at all? Since both are optus network?

    • Yes, port as normal.

  • +2

My wife is on the Catch Connect 365 day 120gb $150 plan, Catch Connect offers her a discount every year on renewal to retain her as a customer, just renewed it 8 days ago for $112.50, same as what it cost her in December 2023

  • Do you keep your auto recharge on or off to get the discount to retain as a customer? And when or how would you know you are going to get a discount? Feedback appreciated.

    • +3

No she only activated auto renewal after receiving an email from Catch Connect a month before it expired offering a 25% discount and checking what other providers could offer and deciding it was still the best offer.

She barely uses any data, primarily used for texts and phone calls, less that $10 a month for 12gb of data averaged over the year is a bargain for her, here’s what the contents of the email looks like.

      Hi xxxxxxx
We hope you’ve enjoyed using your $150 120GB 365 Day Plan over the last year. Your plan is due to expire at 11:59pm AEST/AEDT on 10/12/2024. As a thank you, we’d like to offer you 25% off your next recharge, when you recharge on any 365 day plan by 10/12/2024 for service number xxxxxxxxxx

The easiest way to take advantage of this exclusive offer, is to:

Log into your Catch Connect app or online dashboard before 10/12/2024
      Turn on AutoRecharge
You’re all set. Your plan will automatically recharge at 11:00pm AEST/AEDT on 10/12/2024 with the 25% discount applied.
Alternatively, you can choose to manually recharge your service via the Catch Connect app or log into your online dashboard by 10/12/2024 for the 25% discount to apply. Please note if you recharge early, any remaining credits and inclusions on your current recharge will be lost. The best time to recharge is just before expiry.

      Thanks,
      The Catch Connect Team

  • If only Catch has esim.

  • Thanks. I will buy this on the last day of the offer because my Kogan service doesn't expire until late January.

  • +1

-"$150 plan will be no longer be available to new customers from 28/01/25"
What if I activate the plan in Jun 2025? Does it mean that the sim cannot be activated under 365-Day Prepaid Mobile Plan 120GB?

  • +2

PSA: I'm with Catch and they don't have WiFi calling. As I have bad reception where I live, I'll be moving away after my current plan expires.

  • Bohoo my amaysim exp in 67 days…

    • FYI - I’m also with Amaysim & my plan runs out in Jan-25 (note: I have the auto renewal option switched off).
This week they emailed me offering the following:
Enjoy $53.75 off your next renewal of your plan. Plus, enjoy a massive 50GB bonus data when you accept this offer!
      Toal renewal price = $161.25 with 260GB.

      • Thanks… but My current plan is 140gb and i have alot data left so i dont want to pay $161 like yours even after discount.

  • I want to get a 12 months plan for my daughter phone at Xmas circles im sure had a good deal like $10 a month with code do they use Optus?
I did get a Samsung phone for her a35 and i believe told it’s unlocked I did pay around $350 for it which I used some points towards it.
    Is thus a better deal?

    • Yes that's a pretty good deal too, they also use Optus. Obviously this is cheaper over 12 months $109 vs $120, but apart from that I don't think any real differences. Also keep in mind that after 12 months this will be $150 for 120GB, whereas circles is $15/M for 6GB ($180 for 72GB over 12 months).

  • Does Catch allow you to limit the 120GB in monthly 10GB chunks? If not Im sure my child will used up the 120GB in the first month or two.

    • +1

I think you will need to do that yourself on your phone by setting a monthly data limit.

    • No one give that block feature

  • +2

still good price, I don't know why any telco doesn't have like 30 GB/$30 per year or so. I think I had around like 90% of the data left with Boost plan at the year end.

  • My autorecharge was off and got the email. Ended up renewing for $112.50 in October on the $150 120GB 365 Day Plan, sadly none of the existing data was moved over.

Idk if Optus throttle Catch customers but I find the service sluggish, the way things load on iPhone 13 Pro Max is noticeably slower.

At home we have 2 bars 4G and get around 8.68 /0.86 Mbps. At the shops next to the tower (4G) I get 179 / 45.2 Mbps.

Calls at home are routed through our WiFi (Optus NBN) so that avoids the endless dropouts we used to have.

  • What options do I have for Telstra year sim etc I purchased a a35 Samsung for my daughter for Xmas wrapped for Xmas im on chat and they tell me it’s unlocked I don’t know as it’s not even out of box.
They want $80 to unlock it had I known this i would never have purchased it.
Cost me close to $400 for it obviously used points to get a little less.
I did fancy getting this deal but maybe I can’t now

      • That’s ok but will this deal still be available then obviously it’s a gift wrapped up so on Xmas day if I try another sim day my boost will this tell me it’s unlocked? But then boost is Telstra?
Obviously don’t want to get this and find my phone is locked with Telstra if it is locked with Telstra what are my options as boost and Telstra are both expensive these days and it’s just for daughter

        • Boost is Telstra, need something else. Deal should still be available then.

          • @hamza23: Myself and wife both use boost but it’s too expensive for daughter I may have an old sim but probably not.even if I did probably no longer working?
Is there a way to check phone other than a SIM card im sure there used to be

  • Please excuse my ignorance, but does this purchase come with a 3in1 SIM or do I have to purchase separately?

    • Yes, they post it out, were a bit slow last time I ordered, but did eventually arrive

  • Can get 3.5% cashback from nrma app?

  • Just ordered one, do I get the option to switch to eSIM once it’s activated?

    • no esim at the moment.

    • All good here = it is working here. The link works and the code applies for me at checkout. As you can see, someone else ordered one prior to your comment.

  • When it says
“ Activate SIM within 30 days of purchase, or by the date advertised in a promotion, whichever is earlier, to receive advertised inclusions”,
does advertised inclusions mean literally the whole plan? Or does it usually refer to some bonus promotional add ons?

Usually these plans last three months before needing activation or was I completely wrong about that?

  • +1

FYI Catch Gift card and BOXING10 coupon wont work together :(

    • +1

I found out the same after I redeemed a swap card :(

  • On Vodafone and thinking about changing to Catch.
However will be overseas at the time - can you port while overseas?

  • Guys, anyone knows any similar plan but for 5G?

My Vodafone 5G 190GB $150 is ending in February now. Need to buy a new one.

120GB Should be enough for me.

    Thank you all!

  • Isn't the Kogan mobile deal better? Genuine question.
