As of 9 days ago SingTel are still randomly network banning people with "non compliant" 4G phones

Also, TPG/Vodafone is getting access to the Optus regional towers from next month meaning the IMEI/TAC ban lists from both carriers will be combined

If your current device is banned on Vodafone and you're switching to Optus or vice versa, good luck

    • So if my device (Xiaomi) is blocked on Optus (was previously on Amaysim), but now working fine on Voda (switched to Kogan), once Voda get access to Optus' towers it's likely my device will go back to being a paper weight?

      • …it's likely my device will go back to being a paper weight?

SingTel have deliberately not setup a Blocked Device Checker like Telstra Wholesale:

        https://www.telstrawholesale.com.au/3G-Network-Closure-Block…

So no one can answer that question with any certainty

However, your device does carry the risk of being randomly kicked off the home Vodafone or roaming regional Optus networks next year because Optus have already deemed it "not compliant"

    Charged per KB.

this should be the standard for all telcos.

    • Why?

      • Browse a simple Web page, you will be charged under KBs, else you will be charged min of MB

  • Not negging but I'm in the TIO process with them due to being unable to port out and then doing sweet f all to work it out.

Is this because the ID info Catch Connect has on file doesn't match your actual ID, and they refuse to allow you to correct it?

      • +1

That's what one of the telcos I tried to port out suggested…

        • +1

More network f-kery. What day and age are we in.

      • +1

That happened to me with an account I had for my daughter. In the end I just got her a new number, wasn't worth all the bs

        • Yeah so did I but I had that number 15 years. Mostly annoying them giving bs answers.
Interesting to see if anything happens as the failed port text says its on previous provider but their chat response was everything is okay on their end which doesn't make sense (sent to TIO as proof).

  • How many days do you have to be away from Catch Connect after porting out to be able to port back into this prepaid (or similar) plan?

    • +2

      30 minutes will do.

      • Thank you.

How about other telcos? I think I read somewhere that Telstra is a bit more strict.

        • I've ported out with a $2 Telsra sim a few times, no issues after 30 mins.

    • I got offered a 25% discount on the $150 plan if i recharge. Maybe you got one in your emails or texts? Saves stuffing around with porting.

      • Did you get the email before your plan/data expired or did you have to wait until expiry?

My daughter’s plan is due for renewal in a 2 weeks but haven’t got anything yet.

        • My plan expires on 25 Dec and i got the first text message on 25 Nov, then a second one after 2 weeks. I didnt have a payment method saved and autorecharge was off

      • Got zilch.

Definitely would save me stuffing around doing the whole CC -> $2 Telstra SIM -> CC dance.

Did you opt for marketing promotions? Maybe I ought to switch those on for next time.

        • That's a good thought

I also have seen nothing. I bought the $120 deal a few weeks ago and still need to port. I think I'll set up another account and leave marketing turned on and see what happens next year

For anyone else who tried the code and it didn't work (mine said "Object object" in red), as I found out from the comments in the previous deal, this is works via catch.com.au not catchconnect.com.au.

  • Too bad this is only for new customers. My catchconnect auto-renews at $120 tomorrow.

  • For anyone that already shops at woolies, I think this is a great deal.

    https://mobile.everyday.com.au/plans/long-expiry-plans

$230 for 365 days sim, with telstra 4g, but it gets you a 10% discount at woolies up to $50 dollars per month.

    • Even better still having the $170 365 day - pays for itself!

    • +1

It looks like the 10% discount is not offered on the long expiry plans any more, only the 30 day and data only ones.

      • Correct. Not worth it IMO

      • And the discount is in-store only.

      • Certainly works on mine

    • Been running this for a number of years and I've turned a profit every year and have the Telstra Sim as a second sim in the phone for travelling. (Bad Telstra signal at home unfortunately)

  • got for 99 few months ago..best deal if you have very limited requirements for data and calls

  • Coles Mobile can port to this at all? Since both are optus network?

    • Yes, port as normal.

  • My wife is on the Catch Connect 365 day 120gb $150 plan, Catch Connect offers her a discount every year on renewal to retain her as a customer, just renewed it 8 days ago for $112.50, same as what it cost her in December 2023

  • Do you keep your auto recharge on or off to get the discount to retain as a customer? And when or how would you know you are going to get a discount? Feedback appreciated.

    • No she only activated auto renewal after receiving an email from Catch Connect a month before it expired offering a 25% discount and checking what other providers could offer and deciding it was still the best offer.

She barely uses any data, primarily used for texts and phone calls, less that $10 a month for 12gb of data averaged over the year is a bargain for her, here’s what the contents of the email looks like.
