Boost Mobile $230 Prepaid 12-Month 170GB SIM (SIM Expiry 11/04/2026) $190 Delivered or Pickup from Mirrabooka WA @ Cellpoint

For those like myself that missed this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/885858
I found an alternate. Seeing as boost no longer sell these and with long activation time it might be a good idea to stock them up.

  • Someone mentioned earlier that its not getting the full Telstra coverage

    • Not sure why, Boost still claim full coverage, and I havent noticed any less coverage for my existing Boost plan. The only limit over Telstra I recall was it wasnt at full Telstra speeds.

It's fine, I get 5G but of course it depends on your local area coverage.
      Just did a speedtest:
      389 Mbps down, 69.9 up.

Got a new one to activate not long ago for end of Jan activation. The new deals are considerably worse.

i agree with this, have been using boost for 3 years now. this current year i have noticed a significant data speed dropped or no data coverage (it shows 5G signal but no data/internet speed connected).

someone may say it has better regional coverage but I live in Sydney and my areas are south/west, inner west and city, the coverage/5G connection is still quite poor. (i have a iphone 15 pro max)

Also thinking to join Optus for next year when the 365 plan expires, work has a Optus data sim for the laptop and the speed/coverage is relatively consistant. compare to boost.

      • +2

Yeah just use whatever coverage is best in your area, probably worth testing a few optus/voda prepaid sims to see.
Perhaps Telstra is bad in your area as well if boost is.

Can't believe these are no longer going to be sold 😥 it's like the end of an era

I was with Boost for almost 7-8 years. They kept increasing prices and getting rid the most popular 365 days plans.

I finally ported out to Optus on the $120 deal during Black Friday. Now, I've got more data and Optus have my data

Optus/Voda/MVNOs are perfectly fine if you don't need the additional regional coverage that Telstra/Boost provides.

To be fair, I also find optus/voda network to have significantly poorer coverage/more congested even in metro areas unfortunately.

Plenty of times I've had signal but stuff just won't load or takes forever.

Plenty of times I've had signal but stuff just won't load or takes forever.

That's my experience with Boost/Telstra in Perth metro. Optus seems to actually be very fast now (probably because so many people left). For the past 3 years or so I switched monthly between Boost & Vodafone MVNO's and didn't touch Optus the entire time. Lately I've picked up a couple of Optus MVNO deals and I'm very pleasantly surprised at the coverage and data speeds.

It all depends where you live and how badly Telstra have neglected infrastructure investment in your area over the years, I guess.
Shopping centres and train stations are particularly shocking spots for Telstra where the other two don't suffer any congestion at all.

            • @bonezAU: Fair enough, I used to swap between the 3 a bit but have been with Telstra MVNOs for about 6 months now.

I was hoping the 3G shutdown would help Voda/Optus with their bandwidth issues in Qld, we'll see how it goes I guess.

  • Does optus support vowifi international?

    • +1

      no - only telstra-based services.

  • Does this data rollover when you recharge at the end of 12 months?

  • Could not find about 10-15GB year prepaid 4G sim.

  • +1

Network has quality has gone down a little bit for me as well, but it's fine 99% of the time.
I stick with boost because of the voicemail being delivered as an Audio Message on Android.
No other service provider has this capability despite many users claiming otherwise. I am trying Vodafone right now but there is no support for receiving voicemail as an Audio message.

    • Not sure why it's 2025 almost and Android phones do not have VVM as yet!

      • I don't get it either! So many people claim that Android can get VVM but no clear guides on how to get it.
Only Telstra/Boost deliver the voicemail as an Audio Message.

    • How do you set that up? Atm I use 101 messages.

      • I don't do anything to set it up.. voicemail is automatically delivered as an Audio file in my messages.

        • +2

For anyone else, the feature is called Voicemail to MMS and only works with carriers on the full Telstra network eg Boost.

To turn it on: Text "AUDIO ON" to 144.

          Works on my Pixel 7.
