Boost Mobile $230 Prepaid 12-Month 170GB SIM (SIM Expiry 11/04/2026) $190 Delivered or Pickup from Mirrabooka WA @ Cellpoint

190

For those like myself that missed this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/885858
I found an alternate. Seeing as boost no longer sell these and with long activation time it might be a good idea to stock them up.

  • Someone mentioned earlier that its not getting the full Telstra coverage

    • Not sure why, Boost still claim full coverage, and I havent noticed any less coverage for my existing Boost plan. The only limit over Telstra I recall was it wasnt at full Telstra speeds.

    • +1

It's fine, I get 5G but of course it depends on your local area coverage.
      Just did a speedtest:
      389 Mbps down, 69.9 up.

Got a new one to activate not long ago for end of Jan activation. The new deals are considerably worse.

    • +2

i agree with this, have been using boost for 3 years now. this current year i have noticed a significant data speed dropped or no data coverage (it shows 5G signal but no data/internet speed connected).

someone may say it has better regional coverage but I live in Sydney and my areas are south/west, inner west and city, the coverage/5G connection is still quite poor. (i have a iphone 15 pro max)

Also thinking to join Optus for next year when the 365 plan expires, work has a Optus data sim for the laptop and the speed/coverage is relatively consistant. compare to boost.

      • +2

Yeah just use whatever coverage is best in your area, probably worth testing a few optus/voda prepaid sims to see.
Perhaps Telstra is bad in your area as well if boost is.

  • +5

Can't believe these are no longer going to be sold 😥 it's like the end of an era

    • +6

I was with Boost for almost 7-8 years. They kept increasing prices and getting rid the most popular 365 days plans.

I finally ported out to Optus on the $120 deal during Black Friday. Now, I've got more data and Optus have my data

      • +2

Optus/Voda/MVNOs are perfectly fine if you don't need the additional regional coverage that Telstra/Boost provides.

        • +3

To be fair, I also find optus/voda network to have significantly poorer coverage/more congested even in metro areas unfortunately.

Plenty of times I've had signal but stuff just won't load or takes forever.

          • @Binchicken22:

Plenty of times I've had signal but stuff just won't load or takes forever.

That's my experience with Boost/Telstra in Perth metro. Optus seems to actually be very fast now (probably because so many people left). For the past 3 years or so I switched monthly between Boost & Vodafone MVNO's and didn't touch Optus the entire time. Lately I've picked up a couple of Optus MVNO deals and I'm very pleasantly surprised at the coverage and data speeds.

It all depends where you live and how badly Telstra have neglected infrastructure investment in your area over the years, I guess.
Shopping centres and train stations are particularly shocking spots for Telstra where the other two don't suffer any congestion at all.

            • @bonezAU: Fair enough, I used to swap between the 3 a bit but have been with Telstra MVNOs for about 6 months now.

I was hoping the 3G shutdown would help Voda/Optus with their bandwidth issues in Qld, we'll see how it goes I guess.

  • Does optus support vowifi international?

    • +2

      no - only telstra-based services.

  • Does this data rollover when you recharge at the end of 12 months?

  • Could not find about 10-15GB year prepaid 4G sim.

  • +1

Network has quality has gone down a little bit for me as well, but it's fine 99% of the time.
I stick with boost because of the voicemail being delivered as an Audio Message on Android.
No other service provider has this capability despite many users claiming otherwise. I am trying Vodafone right now but there is no support for receiving voicemail as an Audio message.

    • Not sure why it's 2025 almost and Android phones do not have VVM as yet!

      • I don't get it either! So many people claim that Android can get VVM but no clear guides on how to get it.
Only Telstra/Boost deliver the voicemail as an Audio Message.

    • How do you set that up? Atm I use 101 messages.

      • I don't do anything to set it up.. voicemail is automatically delivered as an Audio file in my messages.

        • +2

For anyone else, the feature is called Voicemail to MMS and only works with carriers on the full Telstra network eg Boost.

To turn it on: Text "AUDIO ON" to 144.

          Works on my Pixel 7.

          • @cv05: I have it with More - my voicemails are automatically sent as MMS.

            • +1

@parisian: Ok, I'd read that on Whirlpool so that's good to know.

  • Order placed on 30/12 no news till now, wondering if their customer service still celebrating

    • I ordered on 29/12 for delivery.
Got call on 31st from them asking if I would like to pickup since they are local to me and that they would help me port/setup the sim. I declined and asked them to please post the sim. They posted the sim later that day.
I Received the sim this morning (I'm 2 suburbs away). It was sent using letter with tracking.

      • +1

So you received a tracking number?

Ordered 30/12 and have heard nothing

        • +1

Yes, received a tracking number on 31st.

      • +1

Poor customer service tbh even in your case, when ordering delivery, they need to deliver rather than negotiating pickup out of no where

        • +1

Yea, I was surprised to even get a phone call like that. I guess profit margins are thin so they're trying to save where they can!

  • Just got a refund notification - oversold?
Disappointed by the lack of comms.

    • +1

      That's poor from the seller.
Probably doesn't have stock inventory systems in place so they oversold. They used to be a small kiosk in the mall but have recently upgraded to a shopfront in the mall.

  • Anyone know of the best cheap sim ($2) to port to before activating Boost, that doesn't require a $10-12 charge up to activate (like the Vodafone one I got)?

    Cheers

    • +1

Aldi Mobile $5 seems the go

      • +2

Cheers that's probably the easiest hey.

@alterego13 thanks sounds like a nightmare so will spend the extra $2 ha

    • Lyca currently has a $3 sim with data and they support e-sim so you won't have to wait for the physical sim to arrive.
Beware though…porting number to Lyca has been nothing short of an absolute headache for me!

  • Received a refund. Poor customer service, won't be dealing with this store again.

  • Refunded :|

I should have gone with Lucky Mobile instead of saving $5

    Dear Valued Customer,

We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to offer our sincerest apologies regarding your recent order with us. Due to an unforeseen situation, we regret to inform you that your order has been refunded earlier this week, and you should expect the refund to appear in your account within the next few business days.

Let us provide some context to explain what transpired:

Earlier this week, a third-party marketplace posted our deals, which led to an overwhelming response. We received over 100 orders in less than 4 hours starting at 4:00 AM WA time, which is where we are based. We were initially assured by our supplier that additional stock would be available within two business days, after they resumed operations on January 6, 2025. However, on January 6, we received confirmation that the supplier was unable to fulfill any further stock, leaving us in a challenging position.

In an effort to resolve the situation, we reached out to other suppliers to source the stock but were unsuccessful. After exploring all possible avenues, we had no choice but to refund approximately 35 customers, while processing the orders that were received earliest.

We understand that some of our affected customers may have missed our initial email regarding the stock delay. We had sent notifications about the issue, but unfortunately, some of these emails were directed to junk folders and not seen by certain recipients. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this caused.

As part of our commitment to improving our service, we have now implemented a more robust stock inventory process for our backend operations.

Additionally, we are pleased to inform you that we have introduced the Boost Mobile $300 Sim for 12 months, offering 265GB of data, available at the highly competitive price of $247.

We deeply regret any inconvenience this situation may have caused and truly appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure that this does not happen again in the future.
Once again, we apologize for the frustration and inconvenience this has caused. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly.

Thank you for your continued support.

    Sincerely,
    Team @ Cellpoint

      Well done posting the clarification.
Always happy to support a local business.

  • I just received mine.
    1. not sealed and the perforations ripped open. Not sure if this is a problem? I'm sure if it won't activate I'll contact them.
    2. The expiry date Sep 25, not the April 26 as promised which is not ideal but I think I can work around it.
