Did anyone actually get the cashback from the last deal? Large cashbacks make me hesitant.

    • +5

Mine tracked within minutes but nobody would have received the money yet as it's up to 120 days from the purchase date as mentioned in the description.

And before all the questions start - there's no mention of needing to activate in the special terms. I'm activating mine in March.

      • @WatchNerd did you check with Optus? Im also planning to activate in march 2025. I know there is no condition to activate in 30 days, but Cashrewards is not confirming 100$ cashback is eligible if activated after 30 days,

        • +2

Activating isn't mentioned in any way in the "special terms". In other words you don't need to activate to get the cashback.

If you're worried about it take a screenshot.

        • but the back of the card does say activate within 30 days though

          • +1

@melo4510: It’s not related to cashback, it’s to do with advertised inclusions.

            • @Gokku: understood thanks

            • @Gokku: What's the advertised inclusions ? I.e. what will I miss out if activating in March ?

              • +2

@BaarOzGain: Optus could shift the goal posts and halve the amount of data for all we know. Not that likely to happen, but all telcos do tweak their offers from time to time. They're simply saying "if you want what we are advertising, you must activate within 30 days or it might change to something else".

        • +1

@Gokku I did contact Cashrewards after the last deal to confirm. This was the response from their Member Services team.

"I have looked into the terms of this merchant and can confirm that there is no activation timeframe for OPTUS sims to be eligible for cashback."

I probably wouldn't go past the 120 days, the timeframe for cashback to be awarded, but that's me. I need to activate next month anyway.

Also, as others have mentioned Optus will allow activation after the 30 days, but it is the bonuses that you may miss out on if they are changed before then.

    • +2

i got it by sending them a message as it didn't track after 7 days.
      haven't got the money yet.

I can tell you the signal is absolute dog sh!t.

      • +3

I have the exact opposite experience from you. Very happy with the cashback tracking and phone signal.

      • I'm on Optus prepaid for one month, and it wasn't great at first but when I exclusively chose 4G on my phone for the SIM, the signal for a lot better and consistent.

    • +1

Not yet, but ive received the one that i bought on Last June.2024 ^^

    • I got the cashback to my bank account already.

    • nope, havent/ didnt track the cashback.
Have already lodge the case with CR but no update since 1.5/2weeks ago.

  • Hold on with activation, if CR rejects cash back like last time just request refund from Optus

    • +2

How to claim refund from Optus? I ordered a SIM card from Optus in April and asked for refund. Optus staff kicked me around, providing me with different numbers and claiming they couldn’t help me themselves and I had to call that number. In the end, I contacted the credit card company to reverse the transaction.

      • I needed a refund as well as I didn't use the correct cashback service. optus told me they'd cancel the order but the order still came. there was another optus rep that told me to refuse delivery and the refund process will kick off which it has. if you've already received your sim, you may need to go into the store.

        • I rejected the delivery as soon as it arrived.

      • I had the same issue. I order the prepaid SIM card, and call them to cancel in an hour time, they said they can't cancel and have to go call Optus, chat with them, visit the Optus store but count resolve at last just ask my credit card company for charge back.

  • Did you get the refund from credit card nned2say?

    • +1

Yes and no, the credit card company gave me credit as a goodwill gesture but in my credit card statement, the transaction still shows completed.

  • Cashback came through very quickly for me last time around. Pending for 105 days though. Due in April.

  • -3

so the $320.sim is on sale for $220.and the cashback will therefore be $220-$100 making total.cost.of.12 month simmaftwr cashback.$120?

    • +6

Math doesn't check out - $130 after cashback.

  • when does the sim need to be activated?

  • -2

Poor math by the original poster

  • +1

Is that new sign term for cashreward or optus?

  • -6

Keep your money and get boost instead. I gave up on optus coverage. Been using them for over 5 years and I'll always get calls disconnected or crappy coverage. Did so many workarounds and at some point accepted it as a feature of Australia with its large land area.

Got boost some time ago and then never looked back. Optus is a waste same as Vodafone. They'll improve with time but your money is better used elsewhere

    • +3

Optus works better in my area

      • +3

Yep works fine for me in Sydney so I guess it depends on your location. Telstra reception is actually worse at my place.

        • +3

Surprisingly, vodafone has the best reception and speed in my new area :))

          Tested with Optus and Telstra.

    • +4

To sum it up, all networks are shit depending on your location. Boost was so bad in my area from last few months (Northwest Sydeny) that I switched to Optus few months before my 12 Months expiry. Optus is working flawless here but there were other places where Optus has sucked equally bad. So now my criteria to select a network is that, I choose a network that works where I spend most of my time with the expectation that the same network wil be shity other places.

    • shitting on how good a network is honestly weird to me, it may work better at different areas than others (but we shit on optus for the data breach)

  • +1

If you’d like to try out the Optus network, FlexiRoam has an Australian eSIM that roams on Optus. Can sometimes get a 100% cashback deal.

    • +3

Or in the my optus app theres a 7 day free trial to test their network coverage

  • +3

Cashrewards getting worsts day by day. I had missing claim for 3 weeks now, sent to 2 email still no response. I prefer Topcashback or Shopback.

    • It is what happens when they get acquired by a big bank. Like cheddar (CBA). They always end up losing interest and it dies a slow and dreadful death.

  • Just a reminder of the security leak of everyone's data is still something Optus did, and most likely the security issue isn't fixed either. If your silly enough to still stick with a company that could potentially leak your data again and have it bought and sold on the dark web then that's on you. I will never want to go through changing my license, passport and bank ever again because of this company.

    • +8

Sorry to tell you but you have to accept that every company can potentially leak your data. It's just the cost of living in a digital worlds now.

Hopefully legislation and governance will improve - this will also mean that affected people are better compensated.

      • small security leaks don't usually make news but big ones do Optus might has well just have posted there customer database on the web for everyone to see, thats how bad it was.

    • +1

If anything, Optus now would have been forced to invest so much in security it’s pretty ridiculous. So yes as a principle i agree with you. In terms of actual risks it’s probably way way lower than other companies.

  • +4

Reminder to click via cashreward prepaid sim

    https://www.cashrewards.com.au/store/optus-prepaid-sim

  • Does anyone know if this sim will work in an iPad tried Optus chat but they basically avoided answering the question. Wanting to know if I bought my iPad from Optus and all sorts of irrelevant information

  • esim? i don't get the statement saying esim excluded until the 16/12/24.

    • I didn’t risk it. I called Optus after I activated and asked for it to be transferred to an eSIM. No extra cost.

      • and it worked fine? thanks sir/madam/furry for your sacrifice

        • the eSim? yes working fine. I have cashback tracked

  • Can you opt for this deal and port a number from Vodafone to it whilst still being eligible for cashback?

  • Whilst the Cashrewards/Boost cashback requires activation within 30 days, this Cashrewards/Optus cashback doesn't mention it. I have up to 3 sims that expires in June/July next year. Hesitating to take the punt now and activate 6 months later.

    • Same situation as you. Earlier post in this thread makes me tempted to give it a shot by waiting

  • my cash rewards shows Optus Postpaid Mobile $100 cashback pending on last month's deal. I bought $220 and get $100 cash back on prepaid mobile. is it normal?

  • +2

good deal anyone else get to payment and get spinning wheel?

    • +1

      yes. same here.

    • +3

I got the spinning wheel on my phone but could go through to payment on my laptop.

      • Yep me too

  • Can this be used for a galaxy watch if it can be transferred/switched to an esim?

  • bought 1 from last deal, Stupid Optus sent to wrong address(address on their system is correct). Took 2 weeks and 10 fking calls and I haven't gotten my refund yet. Never again.

  • +1

"Cashback applies to new sign-ups only" - Does this mean new sign-ups to Cashrewards?

    • Hmm would also like to know this

      • +2

It refers to new sign-ups to Optus, which in this case means either a completely new number or a port-in from a different carrier.

        • gotcha

        • So, if I am coming from Amaysim (which uses Optus), then I won't be eligible for the cashback?

  • Does cashback apply to esims?

    • +1

No as CR strictly says no optus app purchases as it voids the CB terms. eSIM purchase allowed only from optus app . Easy to convert to eSIM once physical sim is activated

  • +2

If Someone looking for 6 months plan , its 120$ - 53$ cashback from cashrewards.. Effectively 67$ for 186 days.. just bought for a friend how migrated here

  • why is it so difficult to port out from Catch to Optus and it is approximately 16 hours and running and still not being activated at Optus end.

  • of course this comes up the day after I recharged my BOOST because there was nothing better/similar around…

    • I almost pulled the trigger for the boost deal.

  • +1

I purchased this from a previous deal (June) where the cashback didn’t track. Contacted cashrewards and they manually put it in. Cashback was due 25/10 and it still shows as pending. I’ve contacted customer service (in October) and they said it would take an additional 60-90 days for Optus to confirm the transaction.

  • +11

I bought this some three weeks back and had a terrible experience creating an account, activating it, and with their support channels. Now I'm in the middle of asking for a refund. Would stay away from Optus in the future.

Some of the more interesting stumbling blocks:
    - During the activation, I tried with three different forms of ID, and for each one of them they would tell me that I need to contact support…
    - Their support chat on mobile browser is half-broken. Some forms didn't load at all for me, but worked on my partner's phone (same browser and extensions).
    - They can not activate your SIM card without you first creating an account. The email confirmation for that took over 10 mins to arrive, at which point I got a different person in my support chat.
    - Self-activation of SIM card failed for me, because their records don't match with what I put in. Tried with a different email address, and it worked.
    - Got multiple errors during the signup and activation, like "There was an unexpected error", which, when I looked into the request/response details, turns out to be "account already exists".
    - Their in-app support gives you a new person every single time you answer one of their questions, and the new person never reads through the previous chat history, asking the same questions and making wrong assumptions (I got asked three times whether I paid something for the SIM card).

    • My port took 30 mins to complete without any issues.
My advice is to go into an Optus Store and they will sort you out.

      • +6

Like most cheap services (yes optus is considered a CHEAP service), If you don't have any issues, great, but if you do and even if its not your fault or out of your control, you're in for a crappy ride.

Ported from Telstra 4 weeks ago, of those weeks had issue with not able to receive SMS.

Called Optus at least 8-10 times, all very definitive overseas call center. All horrible horrible waste of time, effort and brain cells just to get through to them. they make you wait 40minutes each time. Some just hang up after you go through all the verification and disconnect you. Some will ask verify again and then wait, then hang up. or some will say, we will put you through to someone or email you back…

Went through Optus APP, better but following up with issues will not resolve until you keep messaging, they have 8 cases opened for me each 4 days they say it will be resolved after 24-48 hours. None of these cases resolved.

Went into OPTUS shop, better service slightly but did not resolve, they tried, sim swapping etc but ultimately, sent me back to technical support on the phone.

At the end, it was some disconnect between telstra and optus in the SMS connection. No notification when it started to work, as I test daily, I did not want to lose my number.

When I started receiving SMS, ported out of optus as soon as I humanly possibly could.
Even discount Sim not worth this much hassle.

    • I didn't even received my sim and still waiting for my refund $.

  • +2

The activation process was a total faff around as got directed to do it via live chat - be prepared to spend 30 minutes accepting forms and identifying yourself

    Port itself was <5 minutes

    • +2

Their stupid worker ask me to buy the phone plans again and again and again during porting my old number to optus, have to say if not for the price I wont even touch optus.

  • Be VERY careful with using the cashback tracking extension. I used it (better safe than sorry) after clicking the pre-paid link on the CR site. Activated cashback in the extension, all good I thought. NOPE, it activated the postpaid one (even though I am on the pre-paid sims page) and so my purchase didn't track. That was on 28th, still waiting to hear from Cashrewards about my claim…

    • Username doesn’t check out

You don't stay rich by going on a postpaid plan

porting process is an absolute pain in the arse

    • Do the porting in working hours. Last night I try to activate but can't and the chat person just said unable to. This morning I try again at about 9am. Work instantly.

  • Thanks OP. Ordered. Got emails within minutes from Cashrewards and Optus.

"Cashback is eligible for new sign-ups only". Is that for Cashrewards or Optus? I will be switching from Amaysim, which uses the Optus network. Will I still be eligible for the cashback?

    • +1

I am already having account Optus and Cashrewards. I have ordered physical sim card. I need to port-out existing number before activating Optus sim card.

      • Okay, cool. Thanks.

  • I am on a post paid plan with optus. Would i be eligible for this?

    • New Optus customers I think

  • -1

Still trying to get my cashback from last offer

    • Nobody would have received cashback from that deal yet. It was only posted last month.

      • I mean the $100 was not even tracked. I had to wait 7 days before I could claim a missing reward and now I am waiting to hear back from support
