That's just 2% off. You'd save more money by getting better rates with something like 28degrees MC.

  • The exchange rate is ~3% commision with this.
So you can load money on to it but it will cost the same as using a normal card (assuming 3% exchange rates like my CBA account).
28 degrees is much better offering.
If you need cash then head to Auspost as they do 0% commision cash, no idea why they are doing it as it seems they lose from offering the service but can't complain.

    • If you live anywhere near a small foreign exchange shop, go to them instead of AusPost. I've been tracking the SGD rate recently; Cashpassport are 1.2184, AusPost are 1.214, Melbourne CBD exchange shops are 1.25-1.26, Citibank is 1.2652 and 28degrees is 1.2810.

      • Strange, I had to buy some NZD and they gave me the exact rate that XE were displaying.
I don't see any why any company would beat an exchange rate and essentially be giving away money.

I did shop around at first but the best I was offered was to match the exchange rate like Auspost but I had to give them $10 commision.

        • I'm just going by the currency conversion on AusPost's website which currently says NZD is 1.2013 vs XE's 1.25279. If anyone will give you the XE rate with no commissions, they'll probably be the best deal available.

        • Fair enough, it may have been a promo or only available at select stores. Glad I bought when I did.

This is not a bargain considering the currency conversion commission involved

  • Your initial AUD 2500 will buy you SGD 3106.92 (with the stated rate of 1.2184 and considering the bonus $50) when using this card. (This just happens to be the currency I'm most interested in at the moment). A Citibank transaction account should have you buying SGD 3163.00 with their rate of 1.2652.

I'm yet to see one of these prepaid travel cards that beats the flexibility and value of 28degrees or Citibank.

Believe me, I have done the research and Cashpassport is an expensive way to get money overseas. As mentioned previously, 28degrees MC is the way to go.

it is exactly what i want to say. go for a 28 degrees card. it is the best card you can get if you go overseas. i loaded up money and then withdrawn from the atm when i was New zealand and China. the ATM did not even charge me any processing fee. i am going to US soon. this time, i will load money into my gf's 28degrees and use hers as a debit card to withdraw money and mine as a credit card for shopping.

  • you can get a free amex Global travel card atm from post offices that have amex foreign exchange. just need photo id. not sure on this amex offer but i tend to agree on "I'm yet to see one of these prepaid travel cards that beats the flexibility and value of 28degrees or Citibank."
