Jeeze, deal of the month OP, congrats!
    8k+ clicks and still going!

    • 12,000 now - I'm shocked haha

  • So Bose were selling the quietcomfort with the hard case and different colours for $349 on Black Friday but these ones were being sold for $499 like seriously Bose? I don’t understand their sales management…

    • +2

I just picked some up, $499 on the box at JB as well - solid bargain flex!
      Thanks OP!

  • I have an OG pair of QC 35, battery still going strong after nearly 6 years. Is the sound quality on these SC's worth the upgrade?> Weight-wise they seem about the same

    • I've replaced my OG QC 35's as well with this deal - USB-C alone was enough for me, but I think my QC 35's have travelled enough around the world that they're ready for a rest.

      • Does this fit in the QC 35 case?

        • I would say yes as it looks to be identical in size

now overseas, this trip I didn't even bring the SC soft case as I find it annoyingly rubs on the soft zipper case to squeeze them in for luggage, and for wearing them on the plane I just popped them in top of my carry-on backpack for easy retrieval on the plane

don't forget the audio cable and twin-plug for plane movies - they come with 3 items in the soft or hard pack - a charging cable, an audio cable, and a separate twin-audio-plug for planes. If you plug the audio cable together with the twin-plug it would be less likely to lose the little twin-plug.

  • Just realised I had an AMEX offer for $10 off $100 spend at JB, so comes down to $168.20 with the perks discount. Early Christmas present for myself!

  • Newbie with ANC headphones, looking to get my first one to get a feel.

I’d appreciate advice on who has both these BOSE and the SONY below:

how do these stack up to the BOSE?

Sony WH-CH720 Wireless Noise Cancelling Over-Ear Headphones (Black)

Was leaning towards the Sony brands (I like how they look) - esp the xm5 or xm4 - but for a first ones I’d rather spend $150-200 max to test use and determine suitability.

    • +1

      Get the bose.

    • +1

Have experience with both xm4 and bose qc 35 ii. Feel bose is better.

      • but xm5 is the best amongst but expensive :(

        • Thanks guys

          Which ones are less bulky?
Suitable and comfy for gym use?

          • +1

@YoursTruly: Don't think the Bose is suitable for gym use as apparently the clamping force is pretty light and they're likely to move around a lot during physical exercise.

            • +1

@dqtl74: clamping force is pretty light
exactly my thought! maybe because we both have small-ish head?

              • @CyberMurning: Cheers mates

I’ll go ahead with the Bose for a click and collect, and test them out along with the Sonys, etc (the samples at JBhifi if they have them).

Edit: Bought the Bose. Easy return if unsuitable

                • @YoursTruly: Update:

Tried at JBhifi the xm5, xm4, ch720 and these Bose.

Xm5 - is good but it’s all touch operated - good quality sound, anc and comfort.

Xm4 - is similar to xm5 (although prefer xm5 aesthetics).

Ch720 - just cheap feeling all around.

Bose quiet comfort sc - these somehow felt more premium to me than the xm5. Couldn’t tell any difference from xm5 in terms of sound and anc.

So glad I went with the Bose - esp. for this price. The soft case isn’t the best but it’s not like I’ll cary them around often.

                  Thanks mates

              • +1

@CyberMurning: I’m finding the clamping force a bit too much on the Bose QC. Perhaps my head is bigger than average. Are the Sony XM4/5 have lighter clamping force?

I might have to sell these cans. Regretful buy lol

                • @freeb1e4me: yes i have small head.
not sure sony you can always buy from amazon and try. the store samples are probably not a good way to try as they have been worn by millions people

                  • @CyberMurning: I fully extended the head band which helped with the clamping force. Problem solved

          • @YoursTruly:

            Which ones are less bulky?

Haven’t worn the XM5, but travel wise the Sonys are bulkier as they can’t fold up and therefore have a less compact carry case than the Bose.

            • @Smigit: Thanks - good to know this

Do you know if they are bulky when worn as well?

I guess I’ll find out when I go test/ pick up my pair in a few hours

              • +2

@YoursTruly: I don’t know sorry. I haven’t opened the SCs I got today yet, but have used QC35II for many years and love them for their comfort. Not expecting any real change.

I think I might have put the XM5s on for about 30 seconds at a JB but honestly haven’t used them enough to provide any real personal insight.

Only thing that stood out really from user feedback, and this is other people’s experience rather than mine, is some people find the XMs cups a bit shallow leading to ears that touch them and long term use potentially being less comfortable. Didn’t seem to apply to everyone.

Noting I have the Bose though, for the gym use question, I’d probably pick up my IEMs for that scenario personally. Not sure I’d want the sweaty cups.

    • +1

I have the Sony XM3 and Bose QC35ii. Bose is much more comfortable to wear IMO. The Sony hurt my head for a while (but you get used to it). Bose can also connect to more than one device (this may have changed since XM3 is an older model) and I just generally find it more user friendly. In terms of sound quality and noise cancelling I don't hear the difference tbh.

    • +1

try the SONY on your ears - last I looked the shallow earcups would press on and hurt my ears on a long overseas flight - I mean excruciating pain - not kidding.

  • +2

just FYI the code works without even login to account, so i think, i guess, in theory, non jb perk members can use that and get the same discount

  • +1

These are great headphones, I picked them up earlier this year when JB Hi-Fi were sending them out instead of the lower model for 160, the noise cancelling is fantastic and they have awesome clarity!

  • -2
    • Not sure why the negs? Looks same to my eye for $184.99 - OOS though

  • +2

how do you guys price match with Bose? I contacted and they are only do refund after purchase according to the agent? did he/she screw me?

    • +1

I contacted Bose in their web online chat. Asked to reduce the price to $200.49 showing JBHI ( need to attached PDF as agents can't see JB website outside Australia). Agent made the order and send me a link to pay using my AMEX as I have $40 back for purchasing more than $200 offer in my card.

      • Can you send me the PDF please? I forgot all about it until now

  • I have these headphones and they're excellent.

  • Copped, finally gonna have some good over-ear headphones :)

  • I got a second set.. lol. You can use the perks code again. I originally just purchased one for the missus but then i was like hang on, why shouldnt i have decent headphones too? : ) Can retire the old cheap TaoTronics for now !

  • +1

So I just got a pair and compared to the 45 they sound less bright which is a good thing a little bit fuller to my ears, they also fit better and the sound signature (bass, mids and treble set to 0) is much better than the 45, with them I had to do some tweaking with the eq to make them sound better but this is not the case with the new qc.
The noise cancelling will have to wait for a test tomorrow in the train and bus but so far at least I feel less cabin pressure.
Will let know how the nc performs with public transport.

    • +1

Will let know how the nc performs with public transport.

maybe also hows the mic quality in the noisy environment where people are talking behind you, will the caller hear those noises or just your voice?

      • +1

Gotcha, will do that and report later on

  • Picked up today and got the normal Quietcomfort, not the SC??
    Anyone else got the same?
    Is it worth keeping?

    • From Bose's own page:

"QuietComfort SC Headphones are the same as QuietComfort Headphones but feature a soft carry case instead of a hard carry case, and are only available in Black."

    • +1

Nice one you got the hard case

    • Yeah that just means you got the more expensive option for free.

  • imagine next week sitting on the train/bus/tram wearing this and noticed 4 other people around you left right front behind are also wearing the same can

    • +6

We all nod in acknowledgment of our bargain hunting prowess.

      • +3

Eneloops fall out of your pocket as you unfold your Hungry Jacks vouchers. You glance behind behind you; Muzeeb nods approvingly.

    • That would be extreme, even if you were in Tasmania.

  • How is this compared to Sony WH-1000XM4?

    • +1

Jus bought this Bose and compared with Sony WH-1000XM4 (my wife's). I personally prefer Sony more since the bass is more pronounce compared to Bose, but not trying the NC yet.

      • You can use the Bose companion app to change the EQ for more bass

    • +1

Sony XM4 cannot compete with Bose QC at this price.

  • +2

I have an XM4 but bought one cuz I'm an OzBargainer.

    • +1

I have the qc35 2, these ones, the nc700, the Sony xm4 and the Sennheiser momentum 3

  • JB at Eastgarden NSW has plenty in stock. and few were at the back of reception waiting for pick up.

  • -1

It is a very good price but honestly codec support a bit basic for 2024. Doesn't matter if you use apple.

  • +2

There are all sorts of ways to get this…
JB-hifi -> 10% coupon -> JB-hifi discount gift card from the ozbargain discount gift cards page.
Bose website -> online chat to get price match -> amex bose $40 back. May have to add something to get it to over $200.
    JB-hifi -> 10% coupon -> amex special.com.au card 10% cashback.
    JB-hifi -> 10% coupon -> commbank yellow special.com.au card $10 cashback.

JB's support takes forever. I've been sitting in the chat queue for an hour. Bose's website instantly responded to me.

    • why you need to contact jb?

      • They stuffed up my order. It went to pick up at Bankstown. When I put in my order there was no option to pick Bankstown, I'm no where near there. But that was what appeared on my order after checkout. And their online support logs you out if you do something else with your phone.

    • +1

There's a commbank Yello $10 cashback when you spend $50at JB Hifi active at the moment as well.

  • +3

Will these work with a PS5 using a usb Bluetooth audio adapter, and will they work well?

    • Following

    • Not yet tried on ps5.

However, they do work well with the switch.

I can see playing some xenoblade chronicles 3 over the holidays with these on to be something of an aural experience.

  • this one has no microphone?

    • +3

bro… come on… no one will buy this if without

  • How does this work if you have 2 sets in the same area?

Can mine be connect to my phone, and my wife's to her's, etc, or is there interference / issues using at the same time in the same area?

    • Probably not

    • +4

you are worrying about 2 sets in the same area?
wait next month anywhere you go you will see at least 10 sets around you. please say hi to them they are ozb members

    • +1

No reason why they wouldn't, just like how if you're on a bus or train you'd be surrounded by people with bluetooth headsets and you're all probably not listening to each other's stuff.

In my office there's at least 5 people within my immediate vicinity with various models of the Bose QCs, and we're all perfectly able to use them for listening to music and join meetings without any interference.

      • Thanks. Good to know.

        Ordered.

  • Can this work on the inflight entertainment? I bought it already and just thought about this question..

    • +1

yes you need flight bt adapter google it or i think bose sells one

      • Oh thanks! I didn't know this thing exists. $9.. not bad I guess.

        • wait..from bose website?. that probably the cable ones oh okay if you happy with cable not bluetooth

      • it comes with the Bose - the soft and hard case have an inside pocket which should contain 3 things - a charging cable, an audio cable (3.5mm to 2.5mm headphones?), and a twin-plug for plane movies

if the plane has a 3-pin socket, I think the twin-plug will probably fit horizontally across the top two holes - I suspect the bottom hole is further apart - airlines probably use 3-pin plugs to discourage theft of the in-plane headphones (which I think are crappy, even the 'noise cancelling' ones in business class, compared to Bose anyway)

        • +1

and a twin-plug for plane movies

I just picked one up from JB, no twin-plug for plane. Double and triple checked the case.

JB product page matches exactly what I got.

          WHAT’S IN THE BOX

          • Bose QuietComfort SC Headphones
          • Soft carry case
          • USB-C® (A to C) audio cable (30 cm)
          • Audio cable with in-line microphone
          • Safety Sheet
    • +1

google Airplane Flight Headphone Adapters or Airplane BT transmitter .

      • +1

Given its BT5.1 without low latency codex I think sound might lag for watching movies. I would go the cable version…

  • Great deal, picked it up today, thanks.

  • Ordered for a Xmas pressie for myself. Pity only delivery option for JBHIFI is via courier @ $5.99. Oh well, still a beeping good bargain, Thanks

    • with so many buying from JB - no more stock on jb soon.
i think they will just pass the order to bose, pay bose less (jb needs to make profit) bose sends directly to customers, jb pocket the 5.99 doing nothing

  • This or sony xm4?

  • Thanks OP! Just picked one up.

  • Thanks Op! got myself Christmas present.

  • This or Sennheiser M4? Thanks

    • +1

You really need to try on the headphones to see if it suits your size head. Incompatible clamping force is an absolutely deal breaker regardless of the specs.

FYI, voice call quality is average. Wireless PC gaming is rubbish (OK wired). Clamping force is tight on big heads.

Also, you cannot return these to JB once opened.

      • you cannot return these to JB once opened.
one reason to go buy with bose jose

    • +1

Sennheiser M4 mate.sound quality on Sennheiser are miles ahead of these Bose QCs

  • I was thinking about replacing my QC45s with these, but I've decided to hold off. I just updated the firmware on my QC45s to version 4.0.4, and now they have:

    • Outdoor mode with Wind Block
    • The ability to turn Multi-Point connection on or off
    • It also seems to have improved the crackling/stuttering issue with Multi-Point connections
    • wow so the QC we bought here already has those features?

      • Yeah, it should already be there. You can check through the Bose app.

  • Thanks OP.

    Ordered for in store pickup.

$178.20 is a great price - finally got some headphones!

  • +5

On the Bose eq set bass, mid and treble to +5, thank me later

    • And if you wanna go crazy set them all to +10 :-)

    • Nice, thanks!

  • finally upgrading my qc25s with disintegrating pleather. thanks op

  • I wonder if the SC fits into the old QC25 hard case. Has anyone tried?

    • Yes it fits.

  • Do they dull out cicadas?
