Acer Swift GO EVO OLED 14" Intel Core Ultra 7-155H, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD $998 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ In-Store) @ Harvey Norman

210

This deal has been causally mentioned in some of the other BF notebook deals..
Probably deserves it own post.

Ram is soldered non upgradable
Non touch..
SSD is upgradable I think.
Also available in blue (however stock is much more limited)
https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-swift-go-evo-oled-14inc…

Released early this year… reviews look okay.
Batery life not the best..
but it has a 2880x1800 90hz OLED screen, and two TB4 ports, HDMI 2.1, a couple of standard USB 3.2 (Type a) and fingerprint reader in a 1.3kg form factor.

Not to mention it has the arc graphics, which seem to be at least as good as the AMD iGPUs

The newer models, appear to have better battery life, but worse screens and "slower" CPU..

Hard to do better for under a $1000

I think this is the same machine.. with a review. and a look at the internals..

  • Can you please put the price in the title please? Thank you!

Noticed I forgot.. and fixed even before your post..!!

P.S. Bought one today for my son today, as the old Dell 13 xps has started having some issues..

  • Very loud fan

    • +1

I didn't notice any issues.. (although I admit my son set it up not me)..

      • I heard with even light load, or start up it gets noisy

        Can you let me know

Specs seem good, just the fan will annoy me

    • +1

How do you know? Do you have this laptop?

  • Unless they are the new Lunar Lake Swifts, give these Intel Swifts a miss

    Same comment as before:

The number of Swift refurbs on the Acer AU Refurb store is getting a bit concerning:

    https://store.acer.com/en-au/clearances?product_list_limit=a…

One Snapdragon, one AMD and seven Intel

Looks like Acer's standard sub-par cooling solutions are causing issues with the hotter Intel chips

    • +1

I dont think you can get better for the price though.

Any other suggestions at the 1-1.3k mark?
Slim pickings at the moment as the Swift 14 AI/lunar lake versions are back up to crazy pricing >2k from what I can see (edit: except for limited stock for 226v @ officeworks)

The yoga pro 9 is 1.3k on the lenovo store for example
      https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/yoga/yoga-pro-series/…

    • Yes the 155H can be very power hungry with a MAX TDP of up to 64w. If the cooling can't keep up it can create issues. Hence probably why they are being discounted.

      • Maybe can get a laptop cooler?

    • HEAT kills everything & getting rid of it is the biggest problem in laptop. They're generate from CPU & GPU…the consequence of more speed.

Try to look for architecture/design that is based on GAMING-laptop, ie lower end spec that use the SAME architecture/design for HIGHER-end CPU & GPU. Clearance of older models are fine & value for money.

Have a look @ the design of GAMING-laptops…notice any differences ?

The usual precautionary research & being able to read through the paid & bias reviews.
Longevity: doing MORE than factory cooling, eg removing the base cover for max. airflow & putting a fan underneath, especially warm-days.

  • Think buyers here more prefer the AMD version

    • Yes I got the r7 8845hs better GPU.

      • Nope it doesn't. While you may get a few more FPS with the 780m, there are quite a few videos showing the graphics actually looking a lot better on the Arc. I can't remember the technical term or what actually causes this, but it's something rarely reported in reviews which just use benchmarks. If I had the choice at the same price, I'd be going with the Arc.

        • Really?

          • @kaikor: I have compared both laptops side by side in gaming and I have no idea what the previous post is talking about. The AMD 780m had far less graphical issues than the Intel version simply because the drivers were more mature in addition to the higher FPS. You only have to do a search online to see that there are still lots of bugs in Intel graphics drivers.

  • No touchscreen on the oled is that right?

  • Can do officeworks 5% pricebeat right?

    • Do they sell this specs? I don’t think so.

I was doing research on this laptop during black friday sales. Domayne was selling this at this same price, but included a 10% gift card as bonus.

I looked at these in-store yesterday. The keyboards look trashy and cheap compared to HP and Lenovo. The lettering is a small white print on black, and there is no backlighting for nighttime usage. For the price, they are the best in the range. I just don't love Acer products anymore. I have had too many, and they all come with so much bloatware and usually fail within 2 years or become dog slow. the CPU is the best thing about this deal and it should run games ok at 1080p is it doesn't get too hot and throttle itself.

    • I agree re this laptop but I think it'd be very good for students who haven't spent years with better keyboards, as you can't get anything better for this price. The overall build quality on this is much better than cheaper HP models, which I implore people to stay away from as their customer service is the worst I've ever experienced. The Envy line is trash (hinges that snap after 12 months) and while Omnibook is better, it's way over priced and worse than the Spectre it replaced.

      • Yes, it's a very cost-effective price for what you get in the laptop, no other manufacturer can compete with those specs at this price point.

That's a shame about the HP experience as I was leaning towards them purely based on keyboards lol I loved the look of the Spectre as my dream machine but it's too expensive for what I really need - I've never needed to deal with customer support so unless I have a faulty unit it's not something I am too concerned about.

  • The Ad has no mention of a 90hz screen, where did you find that? Acer has different ranges of OLED screens in the models and seems only the upper range claims 90hz, I would prefer an IPS 1080p antiglare matt screen over the fragile, heavy, battery-chewing, OLED glass one on these, additionally, the CPU and IGPU (Intel® Arc™ Graphics - Series 1) in these is capable of running games in low-mid settings -

I assume that would be downsampled to a resolution of 1080p? not running them in the native screen recommended 2880x1800 (as games will look very small on a 14" screen) and the laptop will heat up a lot with Fans blasting getting very low FPS.

I bought a 2k monitor once thought it would be the bee's knees and future-proof me only to find the graphic details looked awesome but everything onscreen was too small and found myself changing back to 1080p for better gameplay but the monitor looked trashy at 1080p (much, much more so than a monitor built natively for 1080p) - that's just my thoughts/experience - maybe OLED does a better job -

PS I did change the resolution on the Acer Go Swift store demo model from 2880x1800 down to 1920x1200 to test it and it looked pretty schmick still - just don't like the glaring glass and the crappy recycled black plastic cheap keyboard (that appears to be shared across the whole entire range) -

if you plan on using this as a desktop replacement with an external mouse and keyboard. or only using during the day - wont be an issue - but I actually want to sit on the lounge at night watching TV in the dark and the keyboard will suck - plus people have mentioned in reviews the bright OLED hurt their eyes

  • How's battery life and fans cranking up under normal tasks? Worth getting the ultra 5 version of this for less than $100? I feel like this unit doesn't have proper thermals to handle ultra 7 processor. Any thoughts or review from anyone bought this

  • All the evidence of the Swift 14 evo overheating, are in regards to the 13th gen units…
Very little info / complants.. about the newer Core 7 155H units having any issues.

the Core ultra 1xx series have dropped in price.. becasue the newer Core ultra 2xx series have been released now..

This is pretty much a older mid range machine. for a low speced price.. because the model have been superceded..
    with a crazy impressive screen…

Most sub $1000 laptops are shocking!!

OK so you bought one but gaslighting others trying to research a durable notebook is pretty out there

      The numbers don't lie

14th Gen accounts for 50% of the current Swift refurbs and Intel as a total are 75%+

      Model CPU Qty Qty %
Acer Swift GO 14 AMD Ryzen 5 8645HS Processor 2
Acer Swift GO 14 Intel Core i5-13500H Processor 1

      Intel 14th Gen 9 50.0%
      • Bit of a long straw to say that .. the number of refurbs available is proportional to the failure rate.. and are due to an overheating issue..
when you have only a single point of time..

The number of Core Ultra refurbs left on the store.. may simply be due to the poor pricing..
Why would I buy a refurb, when I can get a new one cheaper.. hence all the Core Ultra refurbs. are sitting unsold.

Or Core Ultra refurbs available could be returns due to some stupid software issue.. or unhappiness with battery life… or perhaps the screen was too bright for people..

Or there could be been huge number of AMD swift refurb.. which have been sold.. just because AMD is currently more "popular"..
Generally in past Intel laptops are far more popular.. though with the 13/14th gener issues.. things may change.
More laptops = more refurbs available.

Your assumptions may not be valid..
All you have proven, is that at this point in time there are more ultra core refurbs than others left at the Acer refurb store..

Best thing to google "evo 14 swift 14 overheating" and start reading about all the complants..
lots of posts about 13th gen units.. .. little to no posts about the core ultra units..

That what I based, my opinions on… Admittedly it also has its own flaws..
However.. if there's no smoke… there's probably no fire..

I am comfortable in my choice of cheap laptop for my kid..
the fan is not loud.. and I would be happy to buy again and recommends others to consider this machine.

the sticker price of $1899 is crazy stupid..
but at $998 …. its really good value… and currently.. I haven't found any red flags..

  • My order is ready to pickup for this laptop - blue one

  • +1

So I just got this laptop and opened it up.

First impressions, it si very nicely built. Aluminum body and rest pad.

    It has backlit keyboard!

Blue colour is nice, better than the silver one

  • Fan noise whist setting up isnt that bad, about the same as my i5 dell latitude. The fan exhausts at the top of the screen so it doesnt make either side of the laptop hot, like my dell, the left side would get hot and I cant really put things next to it without it getting hot.

One nice but then annoying thing is th SWIFT logo on the touchpad, it stays on lit up, i think you can change it so yeah.

Keyboard is nice and responsive, a bit noisy, but similar to my dell, larger keys too as dell is 13" and this is 14"

Pretty happy with this so far!!

  • ok fan.. noisy even when creating windows 10 usb drive with the ms tool.

On performance mode the fan is crazy noisy. on Silent mode it is not too bad.

Top of keyboard gets really hot when in performance mode.

    • How's the battery life you are getting in doing normal tasks? Fan is too loud when ideal, web browsing and streaming?

      • +1

Normal tasks about 7hrs or so, not great, but ok if you have a power source near by.

Needs 100W to charge better, 65W is ok but 100 better.

After using for a bit now, with normal browsing excel etc.. the fan isnt as loud. So not too bad. May get a laptop cooler pad later to elevate the laptop etc…

        • Thanks for you reviews. Great specs for the price. Lunar lakes PCs could be a better choice for thermal issues, but have to await another year to hit this price point for similar specs

    • Do you plan on trying a few games in it?

      • Not really, I dont game at all. :D

  • Just did a pc mark 10 score and it got 6694

    Very similar to the review

    https://au.pcmag.com/laptops/103535/acer-swift-go-14-2024

    • I think they should have had AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS (780M) in those comparison test, all the AMD chips used are U series (lower voltage) where as the Core 7 Ultra isnthis Acer is (H) meaning more graphics focused like the AMD HS

  • +1

So in relation to the fan vs speed. What I have done is set the windows to perfromance mode and in acersense program Ive set the fan speed to: "Silent" so this now has made my laptop silent and also fast, I can see in task manager it is running around 2-3ghz vs the 1.4ghz if on balance.

Ive ordered a laptop cooler and will report how that goes, it also elevates the laptop for better egonomics

    • Cool… haha - it also gone back to $1899

      • Yeah! Lucky us few.

Really like the laptop, going back to a dell laptop now the screen is non OLED and it just looks bad lol

    • So in relation to the fan vs speed. What I have done is set the windows to perfromance mode and in acersense program Ive set the fan speed to: "Silent" so this now has made my laptop silent and also fast, I can see in task manager it is running around 2-3ghz vs the 1.4ghz if on balance.

So this Acer chassis with inadequate cooling is now being pushed to run harder and hotter but in semi-passive mode

The fan exhausts at the top of the screen so it doesnt make either side of the laptop hot…

Already been reports of this hot exhaust flow causing accelerated damage to the more fragile OLED screens

This all sounds like the beginning of an Acer Nitro thread so tagged to revisit in a year

      • for a 1k laptop, im willing to gamble :D

very nice laptop I must say, next cloest spec is like 2k
