If I’m using it as a work PC do I just need to buy a Windows 11 Pro license or is this laptop not suitable for that?

    • What do you do for work?
What applications do you typically use to do your job?

      • I freelance / contract. I need to log in via a work account at the sign in page, which I don’t believe is supported in Windows 11 Home.

I use the MS Office suite, incl. Teams, SharePoint, Visio.

        • +6

          Buy a 486

        • +4

The specs of this PC will run those apps without breaking a sweat.

Check with your work if they have policies around the supply of PCs, some employers only let you use devices that are on their supported list, and in that case they generally require you to purchase through their IT department.

If your employer is fine with BYOD, check if they want to install Windows Enterprise and manage your settings.
If they do, then you may not want to spend extra on Windows Pro.
If they don't, then I'd recommend getting Windows Pro, as it's not much more and it allows greater control.

I'd also recommend getting the 3 year onsite support, it's only $82.06 extra.

        • You can upgrade it to pro online for $100 typically.

        • Windows 10/11 Pro basically the only difference is you can use Hyper-V to run Virtual Machines, use Windows Sandbox and you can join it to a domain.

    • +1

I'm pretty sure you can upgrade Win11 Home to Pro through the Microsoft store (on the laptop)

  • +4

    1.91kg is brick territory wow

    • +4

How much of a difference can there be.. 2L Coke vs 1.25L Lemon Squash - weight really that significant?

      • Matters if you're only taking carry-on while travelling and have a 7kg limit. If not for that I wouldn't care if it's 3kg.

    • +10

      Macbook Pro 16' is 2.17kg.

      • +7

My old XPS 15 is also 2KG and I don't travel with it anymore, compared to my work latitude 7series at 1.3KG it's a very noticeable difference especially if you have to travel with 2 laptops. I thought non gaming laptops were all less than 1.5KG these days

        • +2

My 15” MacBook Air, well-known for its thinness and lightweight design, weighs 1.5 kg. Any lighter than this, and you’d likely end up with more plastics and smaller battery.

          • @OzHan: At work they have started issuing newer latitude 7450 at a touch under 1.1KG, now I wish all laptops were ultralight. Amazing that the 7650 looks so similar yet weighs in at about 1.8KG, how does the weight difference make sense

        • My old XPS 15 is also 2KG = 15"??
          latitude 7series at 1.3KG = 13" maybe?

          • +3

            @CyberMurning: 7400 = 14" 1.3kg
            XPS 9570 = 15" 2kg
            7450 = 14" 1.05kg
            7650 = 16" 1.9kg

It's amazing that the difference between 7450 and 7650 is almost 1kg!

  • No OLED could be dealbreaker for some.

    • +7

Could be a pro for others, better battery life and potentially more colour accurate (recent Lenovo OLEDs found in the last few gen of the Yogas and Thinkpads are often a bit warm even after being calibrated).

      • Why would oled have worse battery life?

  • +3

Have the CN version of this, a no brainer for work and travel at this price

    • +4

The Xiaoxin right? Absolute best value; insanely large battery too

  • +4

Only another $69 for a 1TB SSD aint bad

  • Wouldn’t you get thinkpad for this price?

    • What’s a compatible ThinkPad?

      • +1

Not sure how close it is but I recall seeing ThinkPad T14s Gen 4 AMD around this price.

        • +4

This is a much nicer laptop than the t14s. Aluminium body, far far better display among other things.

    • +5

Cheapest thinkpad with a ryzen 7 CPU with this CPU architecture is more than $1700 at the moment.
Cheapest thinkpad with comparable display quality is $1450 with previous a previous generation processor (and it's an E series, so not great).
This ideapad is really nice with a metal build, good keyboard, big glass touchpad, great screen and a great processor for a very good price. I've had the previous gen for a year and am super happy with it

      • Thanks for sharing your experience.

  • +4

Good specs for 1300$ - laptops finally headed towards right direction and price point.

I'm tempted but where's the cashback stacking and there will likely be better deals through November I'd imagine.

    • +3

I still believe next month Black Friday will have even cheaper laptop deals coming, please HODL!

      • +1

Does lenovo really do black Friday sales? I find they just randomly clear old stock at silly prices, rather than at specific times.

  • +1

No 880M will be a deal breaker for some

    • -1

      Not even out yet.

    • +1

No RTX 5090 XTX Ti SUPER will be a dealbreaker for some.

  • +1

    Any similar discount on 14”?

    • 1300 or so.for the 14" oled version woth intel cpu
      Amazing battery life and display.

      • Do you have a link? That would be a great buy

  • +3

I feel 350nits is subpar these days, but otherwise an excellent laptop.

    • depends where it is to be used.
I usually have the brightness turned almost all the way down. (having everything bright always has me thinking of the parent saying to child: "that music is too quiet, turn it up or you will damage your ears", or "it is too dark in here, go outside and look directly at the sun for 10 minutes")
      ; -)

      • +1

and, tempted by this one, but do I actually need a replacement for what I have?….
answer is no, and will leave it for others

      • +1

This video says the screen reflection of this laptop is bad and hard for reading.
        https://youtu.be/g8zSc45OPPg?t=78

        • +1

That's the OLED option not the matte IPS in this deal.

  • Who knows, how is the build quality on Idepads (this ideapad) compared to yoga for example? Is it durable enough as a daily driver laptop? Thanks!

    • +3

daily driving mine and its held up well - havent used a yoga before to compare though

    • +1

      daily driver laptop? Thanks!
      Depends your daily looks like.
If same as 90% people in this world, should be fine.

      • I work in IT, with a balance of probably 50/50 on dock vs off (but screen used when docked), for meetings etc
Comes and goes in/out the bag a few times a day

    • +1

Quality and solid build. Someone ended up dropping mine off a benchtop 1 werk into my purchase, landed on the rear hinges, dinted the chassis but still functions and works like nothing happened.

  • +1

Any idea if this users a barrel or PD charger?

    • +1

      USB-C powered

    • You get a choice for $10 more of a 100w but the smaller 65w is amazing and so pocketable, plus it charges all things USB-C

  • +1

    350nits

400nits would be better for my travel laptop and best with upsized cashback :)

    • +3

      And somone will say 500

  • +4

i have the 7735hs version of this for the past year (similar deal to this) and cant fault it
    PC has been great.

One thing to be aware of is the 100w required to run it at full speed - will go off a smaller power brick but at lower speed/slower charge.
Caught me out originally with lower powered dock.

  • -1

So AMD claimed the Ryzen AI chips will be their biggest ever laptop launch. Lenovo has 2 models - a $3.5k Thinkpad and a $3k Yoga Pro. Dell has 0. And they wonder why they only have 20% market share.

    • +1

Other companies have first access licence, aka asus and Lenovo and soon to be msi from November.

      • Ah didn't know that. Doesn't look like Asus is doing much with the exclusive first access though given we have 5 models here only 2 of which are priced under $3.4k. Fingers crossed we see some new Lenovo's then…

    • They sell an awesome deal AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics 16" for around $1000 and $1300 with often OLED 32gb 1tb and its Ai (38 tops, the new cpus are a tad faster at around 50tops but its irrelevent as most is serverside anyway)

  • They have a 10% sign-up bonus on first purchase. Would the 10% off work with this deal or would that only be on full priced items?
Also, the AMEX cashback, unsure if that will stack?
    Thanks!

    • +6

I can confirm that the 10% subscription code does not stack. Trying to use it removes the original $900 off code.
Also the subscription code arrives a good 2hrs later after subscribing.
However 13% cashrewards sweetens the deal!
      Total for me:
      Lenovo laptop cost: $1298.99
      Minus cashback: $168.87
      Cost after cashback: $1130.12
I have pulled the trigger as I need a new laptop and partly to avoid the stress of Black Friday deals selling out. I do agree with another comment here though, you'll always find a better one with a better price, so just have to get it when you need it and if you feel the price is right.
      Thanks OP!

  • +1

Better off buying now without all that AI and recall and copilot crap if you value your privacy.

    • +1

Can always just install Linux 🤷

  • Now SB has 8% expires on 28th, 10% first shopping provided by Lenovo pop up window. Tempted to buy, but I would like a brighter screen. Should I wait?

    • -4

Buying a laptop is similar to getting married; you'll always find a better one if you wait

      • And the hot one matches your mate not necessarily good for you.

  • +11

    13% cashback at Cashrewards today.

    • +1

      Nice deal updated

  • Nice, i NEED a new laptop, my 4 year old lenovo ideapad 5 4800U has broken hinges and it's soldered 16Gig is proving limiting for Fusion360

But, cashflow is poor, mortgage payments are gonna nearly double in January so, procrastination will pay off….Almost certain this'll be cheaper next year ;-)

    • And black friday soon

    • my 4 year old lenovo ideapad 5 4800U has broken hinges

      It is better to avoid?

      • This seems to be a different construction!

  • +2

    Where NIT pickers at? ;)

  • Been eyeing this deal on the lenovo edu store for a while. I can't decide if I should get this or spend the extra for the Legion 5 though. Does anyone know how this model would handle blender or video editing?

  • Absolute killer laptops, i recently bought pro 5i with 125h intel version woth oled display. Battery is amazing with 60 percent brightness full day use it no worries with 30 percent remaining.

  • How's the battery life on this?

    • From research it seems to be around the 9-10 hour range with regular use.

      • Awesome thanks - very tempted, trying to find reasons not to buy lol

  • Have the 14" version and hate its keyboard but finally gave in, here hopping for the keyboard will be different on the 16" 🙏

  • Really wish that I purchased this instead of the Legion Slim that I bought a month ago. For my usage (I don't game) the Legion is overkill and is far heavier whereas this would have been perfect. Anyone want to swap?

  • Can anyone comment from experience how this high refresh IPS display compares to a similar OLED display. I will be using it indoors in daylight without direct sunlight on the screen, and also during the evening with moderate lighting. My usage will be primarily web browsing, office apps and YouTube. I don't use it for gaming.

  • +1

How's the keyboard compared to Thinkpads X or T series, which I love. The keyboard of the ipad looks flatter

  • Decent machine for the specs, a little low on storage but everything else looking pretty darn good!

Anyone know about charging this back up by a PD Power Bank?

    • Its only $69 for a 1TB SSD

    • I have a Legion Slim that charges from a 100W GaN USB-C charger without an issue.

  • +2

Although I prefer OLED and higher than 400nit, I have puller the trigger. Because I always have no luck and misses the super deal.

    • I have the IPS and the OLED and yeah, I cant say they are the same as I will never go back to IPS after OLED! But if you get the IPS and never see the OLED then you will be happy enough as its a good screen asside from the abysmal light bleed that OLED dossent suffer from and amazing clarity

  • I really like this but gotta hold for black friday… if the keyboard is in the middle (without the numpad) it would be a sold for me.

  • What WiFi card is installed?

    • Mediatek or Intel?

      • +1

RZ616 Wi-Fi 6E 160MHz is a MediaTek chip but its on a card I think according to the teardown you can swap if need be but mines awesome with great speed and stability. I also see MediaTek and nVidia are working together now too so thier future is bright!
