  • Is mate nbn any good?
Currently with AGL on FTTP and it’s fine besides AGL failing to issue correct invoices for last 2 months and my discount expires after 1 month.

Currently with Mate. Have had occasional dropouts since going with them. Prior service (Leaptel last, can't remember who before) was flawless. Am gonna change when I get around to it.

      • What nbn technology do you have?

        • HFC

          • @fantombloo: Could be an issue with your HFC NTD - if you haven't already, worth reaching out to support and they can run some NBN testing to confirm.

Superloop deal is still cheaper for the high end plan, and will be for 12 months (theres also a cashback).

      Can’t beat that deal atm

  • on their 100/20 plan atm, not getting throttled

  • Hmm, 25/10 plan looks tempting, but from previous deals it seems provide is not so good? I'm going to give FUBAR a try from end December and might come back and try this one is they don't deliver

    • I`m thinking the same, need to downsize to 25/10 and $40 monthly is tempting as long as their service is good lol
Did you try asking FUBAR for a deal?

      • +1

No, i didn't try. Their price seems good ($50). I might save a bit more by jumping around with providers, but so far it has been a very exhausting game aligning the end date of a plan with the start of the next one to avoid going into a new cycle. Better spend the little bit extra, stay with a single plan/provider and support a smaller Telco.

A bottom-tier ISP with poor performance that spends money on sponsoring sports personalities (e.g., Sam Kerr) instead of upgrading their network. It’s similar to dodgy solar panel retailers using retired cricketers (e.g., Allan Border, Steve Waugh) to flog their products. They also have absurd referral policies:

    • You can only receive a referral credit once as a referrer.
    • No referral discount is given if a discount code was used during sign-up.
    • I can confirm that referral credits are not eligible for use in conjunction with discount promotions.

However, "You can only receive a referral credit once as a referrer.”

      This is incorrect.

  • Does they have public IPs?

  • +2

honestly not worth the time and headache you are very likely to get.

Will there be people who get pretty decent service with mate? Sure… But from my own and everyone ive spoken to that has tried them, mate are now an empty shell of what they used to be, as if they have never upgraded CVC capacity or even reduced it because throttling is real.

  • There was a mob with black friday deals and one had a good price and it was 12 months. It wasn't one of the NBN upgrade deals. I can't find the post :/ anyone know who it was with?

    • +1

      Superloop - link posted above.

  • I left them when they jacked the price up for my 100/20. Asking nicely to keep my old price but they couldn't do it and say I'm welcome to switch to another ISP that can do better price.

Which I did. Never look back.

    • I'm sorry to hear this, we definitely could not keep the same price but we do have other offers available.

How long ago was this out of curiosity?

      • That was 1.5 year ago. I moved my internet from my old rental to my new PPOR with you guys too but then you upped the 100/20 price by $15 per month. Anw just moved to More as I'm with Commbank and I'm ok now. Probably gonna churn by the end of 12 month introductory price.

Please avoid unless you like your speeds throttled

Mates don’t let other mates join mate…

    • Ape no join Ape

  • Crap internet don't bother

  • currently with mate now. i actually found their customer service not bad. i started on the 100 plan and my line can only do up to 60mbps. they happily changed me to the lower tier which has been fine to stream on for us. paying only 40 bux a month, its alright. obviously not as good as the better services out there but for the price u cant expect that. would contemplate going woth them again in the future depending on what other deals are on at the time.
    hope this helps. ymmv

Went with Mate once… never again. I was noticing slow load times and buffering on websites so I did a speed test on speedtest.net and it showed full 100 so I ran another on fast.com and was only getting 25. Clearly some manipulation/throttling going on

  • +1

Agree with others, avoid. Speed and support weren't up to scratch.

Unless your issues arise during their working times , you're stuck.

  • Currently $75/m for 50/20 with future haven't changed because I could save $75 over 6 months then end up paying $5/m more than I do now and those savings would be eaten up over 15 months which gives me time to switch back to future. But I don't trust my future (haha pun) self.

This is why I haven't changed nbn plans in 4 years, you save for 6 months then end up paying more. This deal is probably the best savings I've seen but based on the feedback here the hassle is not worth saving $75 over months since I rarely have issues with future.

I repeat the same comment every time there is a NBN "deal" from mate.

No, Don't signed up. avoid them at all cost.
I switched to mate in late July 2024 because they were the cheapest 50Mbps provider.
Left within a week, at least I got a full refund.

They cut my speed during evening peak (6-11pm) to less than 10Mbps.
I can't even watch youtube or channel 7 online. I can't check my security cameras remotely.
And that was every single evening.
I did a speed test on Ookala and fast.com, it shows 48Mbps download speed.
I believe this ISP has made a special settings for speed testing website so you can't gather evidence to make a complaint.
So I decide to monitor the speed by downloading large files on Bit Torrent.
At around 5:30pm, the speed drops and at 11pm just, it goes back to 50Mbps, every single night.

I left and switched to another ISP, guess what, everything is back to normal.
You may easily find lots of similar reports from angry customers regarding speed issues on OZB or Google review.
I switch ISP every 6 months when discount price no longer available to always get the cheapest price.
I have tried more than 10 ISPs and I can promise you, mate is the worst one.
Just don't waste your money with them. Don't.

I’m currently on the 100 Mbps FTTP plan in Brisbane with a 6-month discount. Is it cheap? ✔️
Is it good for day-to-day internet activities? ✔️
Does it deliver the advertised speeds? ❌
Is it reliable for downloads or heavy usage? ❌

The speeds during peak hours are especially disappointing—nowhere near what's advertised. For the price, I can tolerate it for another 3 months, but if you care about quality of service over cost, this might not be for you.
