Seems an alright deal i think it's the lowest for the 100/40 plan i've seen.

correct
This is a very good deal…though there are some atrocious reviews for Southern NBN online. But I guess that's the case for many providers. I ended up choosing Exetel 100/20 for $65.99 a month with $100 cashback.
The Exetel deal is better. $295.94 over 6 months after cashback. For me, the internet service has been flawless. Streaming and gaming have both been excellent.
Agreed. Exetel has been good for me too, always. I like the free speed upgrades for a bit of fun too. Always a good option to churn (turn😉) to.
I thinking of churning exclusively between Superloop and Exetel. At least whilst I’m stuck on FTTC.
@sween64: I was just about to churn from Superloop to Exetel but forgot about the 30 day notice. Since I've just entered into the next bill cycle I'll have to wait until April 30th to churn without fees. Sticky situation.
@6828: Rather than churning, put in a cancellation with 30 days' notice. Can be done online via the Superloop chat.
They'll call you back, make you an offer to stay. I'm on Superloop 100/40 for $95, I was going to switch.Superloop called back:
- they offered 6 months @ $90. I said no.
- they offered a free modem or homeline. i said no.
- they offered 6 months @ $85. I said no.
- they offered 12 months @ $85. I took it.I don't know how far I could have pushed, but I was happy with that. I don't get a cashback bonus, but I've been really happy with Superloop so don't want to mess with a good thing.
if you don't get an offer you like, you have 30 days to sign up with another provider, and at least the providers I checked out you can add a connection date. No dramas.
@sween64: I’m not sure if Superloop and Exetel is still sharing backend accounting systems. When I tried to switch from Superloop to Exetel with VoIP, it was such a horrible experience that made me decided not to use neither of them ever again.
Basically means one real life customer would be shared between the system of both companies since Superloop bought up Exetel a few years ago, and they would have to manually intervene if swap happened within the same system (which is apparently something they didn’t expect).
how can you churn exetel? im on the 100/20 for $77, ready to switch
Anything about IPv6 support and CGNAT opt-out?
No IPv6 Support.
CGNAT opt-out was painful (required multiple calls).I can opt-out CGNAT with just a simple request via the online chat.
In case you missed it, Southern Phone had major issues in Victoria for about 10 days, with their 2 hourly update being that there would be an update in 2 hours, every 2 hours lol…. We had no Internet at all for close to a week, and had to port to Tangerine. Called them twice, and each time they said it would be be fixed that day, but it definitely wasn't.
Make no mistake, I'm all for a good deal, and supporting small businesses, but we didn't have good experience this time.
10 day outage, no one wants that
And like it would be one thing if there was good communication, but promised call-backs were not made, and issues were not resolved when they said they would be, and their website promised 2 hourly updates, which just said the next update would be in 2 hours!
Southern got bought up by AGL. Seems after that they have been terrible. So no small business, the opposite in fact now. Should be much better but instead got worse.
Same issues as Uncle Roger, except our 1000/50 plan has been reduced to 250/50 since the maintenance in Victoria.
The website since that time still shows performance issues for Vic.
CGNAT opt-out was pain free for me, however the ongoing issues with the service without updates has been about as bad as it gets. I'll come back to update once they sort the speeds out and start offering my plan speeds, which were absolutely fine prior to the maintenance downtime.
They've done nothing to keep customers updated on the expected fix time, except point us to the service status website as the problems continue.
I mean I know most telco's don't have perfect reviews, and trust me, working for a Telco, you can't make everyone happy. This though, this is horrible
Everything I have heard and read about Souther, has been absolutely negative.
They were good for the first month or so, zero complaints. But then along came the NBN works and following outage… :(
Down for 3 4 days last week in Victoria and it's not related to NBN :(
Yup had this also… has it at least been resolved for you by now?
@Uncle Roger: Yes and I chat with them for 30 mins, they provided $8 credit for 4 days without / with limited connection as compensation.
For your NBN Fast plan at $65 per month, the plan charge will be divided by 30 days and then multiplied by the number of days without service. This will determine the credit amount for the days you experienced no service.
65 / 30 * 4 > 8 as well.
Very unsatisfied with them.
@Uncle Roger: I stuck with Southern through all the drama over the past 2 weeks, since their urgent maintenance I had reduced speeds of 250/50, logged a complaint with the Telco ombudsmen due to lack of updates or fixes for the speed problems they caused.
I was then contacted by Southern trying to fix the issues and told they could see no problems on their side and all speed issues had been fixed.
I was asked to perform speed tests over periods throughout the day and expected they would have to request an NBN engineer due to the speeds.
I ported to Leaptel and full speed returned within 15mins of signing up. So we know how good Southern are at causing issues, not communicating or fixing issues, I'll leave it there.
@Imposter: Haha $8, you got more than me :) thanks for nothing Southern… you gave us a lesson in who not to sign up with.
Anyone who is with Origin or is able to change to them for Gas / Elec etc. They are doing half price plans for 6 months.
100/40 is $55 per month.https://www.originenergy.com.au/internet/plans/.
I believe they still use Aussie Broadband for their NBN service
Good to know. I can't find info on their site if they offer Static IP
Edit: Just came across this:
https://www.whistleout.com.au/Broadband/News/Origin-NBN-Auss….Edit: Their help confirmed static ip extra $5/month
Origin moved from Aussie BB to Superloop for nbn services.
I signed up at this price in January, but for 12 months. Speeds aren't great, somehow I get 87 in the off peak times but 95 in the evening peak. But I'm not inconvenienced enough to complain yet. I was paying More $64 a month for 50/20 so it's still better
Do you guys need to change router when you change provider or you have one good for all. I am with Optus and the router seems to be locked on Optus
Would most likely need to change router, yes.
depends on how locked that router is, I used telstra gen2 with original provider, then launtel, then exetel, now with leaptel
the router seems to be locked on Optus
There's a way around your dilemma.
- Purchase a router from an OzBargain deal, which regularly appear for less than $50
- When changing provider, choose one that lets you use your own router. Most providers do this, and there's a good chance you won't even have to set up the router, it's often automatic.
If a provider insists you need to purchase a router from them, it's a form of lock-in, and it's also rare that such providers have the best deals.
I’ve just moved to Leaptel from these guys, thanks for recommending. My 100/40 Southern Phone plan for the last 6 months was half as slow as my Leaptel 50 speeds in Melbourne suburbs. Crazy
Leaptel has been declining for a while now.
Service Experience Review:- I was with Southern Phone for about 2months before moving to Exetel(just now). I have had 4 outages and none of them were emailed/messaged to me and they all lasted for 2-3days with speed issues galore.. Additionally they dont have a Call-center for weekend support and this just adds to the issue.. Stay Away from this provider..
Similar experiences - terrible ISP. In fact having I think the worst we've had and I've churned a lot. Avoid
Terrible ISP. Don't bother
Never ever I've seen such a bad serviceConstant outages which are not NBN related. I’m churning!
In Vic, had 4 days outage last month, and today, too. Looking for another nbn.
Joined in January internet drop outs every week or so. Got really bad about 28 days ago and cancelled but was stuck for another month due to billing cycle.
Finally free as of today and have returned to Tangerine.
ewww tangerine
Southern phone speeds during the day are fine however at night speeds are horrendous, I get 50-100mbps on 1000mbps plan. A workaround for the crap evening speeds is to use a vpn like surf shark, you can get close to full speed.
50% cashback on first month only?
