[Refurb] Apple iPad Mini 5 64GB Wi-Fi+Cellular $259 @ Coles (Online Only)

380

This is my current mini. I typically use it to stream music to homepod and take notes. Great for reading manga. Occasionally I'd pop in a boost sim and use it to hotspot. Still the best tablet because the size and weight is just so, so right, battery life is awesome, and can take a bit of abuse at this price point. I have tried to replace it with an iPad Pro, it simply did not work.

It is on the old lightening connector for those who care.

You might want to wait for a Coles cashback deal at some point to go with this.

Edit: I do not know what versions of the OS these come with. Mine is on 16.6.1, and I don't intend to upgrade it ever. I guess you can always return it if it's not performant.

Warning: A successful order does not mean stock is available. Your order may be cancelled afterwards if it is out of stock for your store

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2024

I wonder what the battery levels on this might be

    • Low 80% battery life.

      • How do you check ? There is a battery health check but it only shows usage history and no battery health

        • I’ve known this for around 4 years, since Covid started….
          https://www.reddit.com/r/ipad/comments/p21nef/pro_tip_how_to…

          To replace battery:
However, your battery health must say that your iPad's battery maximum full charge range is below 76%.

Apple can service iPad and iPhone batteries for a fee. (Minimum of US $100.) Apple's warranty doesn't cover batteries that wear down from normal use. If you have AppleCare+, your iPhone/iPad battery can be replaced at no charge if it holds less than 76% of its original capacity.

          • @INDYVADER: Thanks for the info. Tried that but my ipad doesn't have log-aggregated-2021-08-21-xxxxxx.ips

Tried to have Analytic floating button too, but no button shows up.

            • @yht: I would say to either take it into an Apple Store, or ring their service number to speak with a tech. Or even take it to one of those phone technician places to see if they know. If none know of this, then you’re really stuffed‼️

  • Just bought one of these a couple of months ago. Great little device and this is a great deal.

    • Even tho this is on an iPad, I wouldn’t even buy an iPhone used or refurbished, earlier than the 13. Let alone one before the iPhone 15, because they’re all Lightning cable otherwise. Go ‘universal’ from the iPhone 15 USB-C port.

This is old (iPhone XS processor) but also an enormous leap up from the Mini 4 (iPhone 6 processor)

    • Not just old. It’s bloody ancient! 🤡..🤣🤣🤣

  • I want to know what manga you recommend OP Thank you

    • +2

depends on what you are into. Recommend, One Punch Man, Hunter X Hunter, My Hero Academia, Dan Dan Dan, Rurouni Kenshin, Spy x Family…

        Dan Da Dan

if you want something a bit more mature, 20th century boys is one of my favourites I've read many years ago. Starts off quite slow though.

    • +3

I generally like a moderate level of violence with good drawing, off the top of my head: Berserk, Claymore, 3x3 Eyes, Monster, RG Veda, Attack on Titan. If you are after funny ones, anything from Tsukasa Hojo, Yoshihiro Togashi and Tooru Fujisawa would do, depending on your laughter tolerance. Then there's the more vanilla RPG ones like One Piece and so on.

I have found some comics to be quite good, currently going through Fables when I have time.

  • what app did you use to read manga on ipad?

    • +1

yes, would love to know aswell, and any seeds for ebooks, pdf's of manga, so i can side load into my kindle.

    • +1

      I use kavita.

    • +1

I use iComics. It support RtL, two page or single page layouts, as well as *.cbr iirc. I think I got it from here when it was some sort of deal ages ago.

This thing is esim capable, too. Very handy

I honestly think this is the best ipad mini in terms of ergonomics. The new one is too narrow. This one feels like an actual small notebook when used with a case since it's so slim as well.

    • Even at this price? My 2016 Ipad pro runs pretty slow. I assume this will be faster.. Can get a mini 6 preowned for about $500.

Ipados 18 compatible. Probably final os though. Should be good for 2+ yrs

The direct from Apple equivalent Mini 5 refurb is $679 (OoS). Apple's refurbs are generally "as new", replacing parts including battery, case, and screen as needed.

    Coles' version:

Refurbished supplied & supported by Alegre

So no Apple warranty. May have non-authorised Apple parts, in which case Apple will refuse any repairs paid or not.

    • 12 Month Warranty with 30 day satisfaction guarantee

Probably luck of the drawn on battery life, battery could be upto 5 years old. Apple's replacement battery cost is $205. 3rd party $100-$150.

Less than half Apple's refurb price, if you're willing to take a gamble and return it within 30 days, if you're not happy. Currently asking price on ebay is $340-$350.

    • Alegre don’t make u happy at all. The co is ‘basura’… rubbish.

  • Tech Specs here

For those that like to draw - Support only for 1st Gen Apple Pencil

  • Just make sure it's not a refurbished US model (A2126) which doesn't have Oz band 28.
Will probably be black listed since it can't do 000 calling - or is it exempt as it's not a phone?

  • would this be faster than an iPhone 7?

looking at changing the iPhone 7 to this as my google maps/waze/spotify use in the car.

    • I saw another comment saying that this iPad has the same processor as the iPhone XS, which is probably a few years of development faster than the iPhone 7.

Xs's still my daily driver, absolutely capable or iOS18 without so much as a suggestion of struggle. Xs is 4gb ram though, mini 5's 3gb

    • It can easily handle navigation. I used to use it for that purpose with a phone mount.

  • Tempting but nearly 6 years old!? Crazy how Apple hold their resale value so long! Puts me off that iOS will prob only get 2 more years from what you guys are saying

    • Mini 6 has jelly scroll, most people won’t want it, which means 5 is covering the massive gap. If you aren’t using it for anything critical, iOS upgrades aren’t that relevant. That means it has infinite lifespan, os-wise. Mine is on 16 and works fine.

until the apps need updating & aren't compatible with older OS

        • In theory, yes. In practice, I haven't updated anything for a couple of years. It's all about what and how you use it.

          • @Alley Cat: happened to a family member where the app was no longer supported without an update & was unusable

            • @Irishness: I am not saying it doesn't happen, I'm saying that it depends on you. You are not your family member, either. I was looking at buying one of these, for instance. This would be way ahead of the device.

              • @Alley Cat: yeah I know what you mean but people do need to understand that with some apps they stop supporting older ios & will eventually stop working, frustrating as plenty of devices work perfectly well & do not need upgrading until apple / app developers ruin the party

      • Yes forced upgrades render the device useless. Never again.

  • is this available in store or online only? i tried to set location then become not available, and how to choose color

    • I'm able to add it to my cart in the Coles app, but haven't tried to check out all the way.

      • got it from my local store black color. condition i will say 95% like new. Include new Charging cable and charger

        • Nioce. Enjoy the rest of the shopping spree!

  • Ordered via website for click & collect, paid, then a few hours later Coles cancelled my order :(

    • I kept trying to order click and collect at all my nearby stores but they kept cancelling. Gave up and bought one through eBay. The BF2422 brings it down to the same price as coles and upsized cashback is a bonus.

    • Same. I assume that some particular stores might have it. But Coles just treats it like you’re buying some groceries. So it’s a just a random chance you might get one..

      Has anyone actually got one?

      • I did by ringing Coles Online and ask them to stock check stores closer to my postcode. Then I rang the store to check then reserve for me. Bought some vitamins to ensure $300 reach for TRS. Winning.

  • Somehow I cannot remove $1.50 paper bag charge for the order. Really ?

  • Seems $339 now, anyone seen similar deals anywhere?

    • Wouldn’t buy the heap of shit! It’s too old and won’t be supported. It’s also only a 64gb one. I won’t buy a phone unless it’s at least 128gb. Even tho the phones I’ve had in the last 3-4yrs have been 128gb min., I know that my capacity in phones have taken up at least 150-210gb, so I know that I need a 256gb.
