    Thanks.

Which pirelli tyres are recommended for an astra? Powergy? P zero? P zero 4? The weird one that starts with c?

    • -4

      P zero

      • +6

P zero's are so shit. My car came with them- lost traction at all stages of wear. Couldn't swap to Michelin pilot sports fast enough

        • +3

They arent shit. I have PS on the stinger, currently but have P0's on other cars in the past and my only issue with them is they wear to quick.

          • +2

@Franc-T: Perhaps they weren't suited for a RWD like a mustang then. The michelin sports are guaranteed to not lose traction from standing, but the pzeros will. I hear the Pzeros may be better when turning at speed (which is not what mustangs are known for lol)

            • +1

@Tech5: I had them on my first Monaro, never noticed an issue, the Mustang might be more torquey down low though.

That said, my Current Monaro has some generic cheap car dealer tyres, its amazing how shit low end tyres are, i hate them with a passion!

            • +2

@Tech5: I had a 2016 Mustang V8 manual with P zero's that I tracked and they are an excellent track tyre once they get up to the right temperature (it takes about 3 hot laps). I later had a 2018 Mustang with Michelin PS4's and they were better on the road at normal temperature but on the track they were not as well balanced as the P zero. The PS4 definitely last longer though.

        • Agree. Always used continental on my car and they were great.

Tried P Zeros and the rear breaks traction easily.

          Wouldn't use Pirelli again.

          • @imurgod: I bought a Polestar with Pirelli's on it, was going to replace them in BF deal but through some (profanity) up the tyres became unavailable after I'd paid for them in the store so they agreed to give me 50% off a set of Continental Premiumcontacs. Much better tyre.

            • @LauralHardy: To be fair, I have a few mates with performance cars who all warned me against Pirelli and I didn't listen, but I'll be going back to Continentals.

        • Audi?

        • Agree. I've had 2 high performance cars and both came with p zeros as OEM. Poor traction under 25c and wet. Warm they are great. Michelin ps4s were much better.

          • @milobob: This is accurate. They grip when it's warm and dry.

        • Agree. I think anyone arguing they're better than Michelin simply hasn't had a car with Michelin. Conti also make better stuff.

    • I have the RSV and am very happy with the P7C2's . Quieter with much better wet grip than the stock tyres . Bought last year with 25k on them already and look like I'll get 60k out of them .

      • Bought last year, on 65k atm

    • I have the Pirelli MS they are amazing

    • Why don't you go on their site and use your rego to find out, my suggestion would be Powergy, but it depends on what you want in a tyre and how you drive.

    • We have the Cinturato P7 205/55/16 on our Maxx Sport Mazda3 and they are outstanding.

    • Guys, I was able to drive into my local store and got 4 x Pirelli for my Nissan X-Trail for $550 + $39 balancing and alignment all up. Instead of waiting online, just drive up and if the store manager is as nice as the one I got no need to endlessly wait to book it online.

      • did the same.

  • +2

    here it is

  • +27

Bob jane seems to be cheaper with their 40% off

    • thanks, booked with Bob Jane instead

    • +4

It depends on which tyre models. I compared the Pirelli Scorpion AT+ and this Mycar deal is about $15 cheaper per tyre, but I still went ahead Bob Jane's 40% off sale rather than waiting for this Mycar's Friday sale.

Edit: Bare in mind, Bob Jane has since reduce its Pirelli sale from 40% off to 35% off.

      • What size and how much did you pay?

        • 265/65R18 at $296.40 each.

          • @edfoo: Yeah nice! I had the same size on my BT50, great tyres.
I paid around $1080 for a full 5 set in '22 Mycar deal, prices gone up a bit since then.

If I can find the next size up on the day, ill grab those.

            • @aussiekid: Oh yeah, inflation and rise in cost of living all contributing to the price hike in tyres.

      • I got 20 inch scorpions last year. Had continentals before that. I would say the continentals were very good and lasted about 60,000 kms.
The scorpions are only at 20,000. They seem to be holding up good.
I doubt they will end up as good as the continentals but at less than half the price they are excellent.

    • +3

Bob Jane is a scam. Check what percentage it is. They decided mid way to reduce to 35%

    • +3

Depends, some options are cheaper at mycar vs BobJ after discount. Examples:

      PIRELLI P ZERO PZ4 0 (MO) 99W 235/50R19 99W - $259.50 (mycar) vs $283.40 (Bob Jane)
      PIRELLI P ZERO PZ4 (MO1) 99Y 235/50R19 99Y - $259.50 (mycar) vs $281.45 (Bob Jane)
      PIRELLI P ZERO PZ4 (VOL) XL 103V 235/50R19 103V $269.50 (mycar) vs $302.25 (Bob Jane)

    • Compared the prices, the size in pirellis I want are $200 cheaper through mycar.

  • +9

Keep in mind the slightly inflated RRP with mycar. IIRC from last year it works out closer to 30% off compared to RRP at other retailers.

    • Pirellis i got at bob jane 40% off came to the same price at this 50% mycar offer (assuming rrp remains the same).

Though since I purchased, I noticed bob jabe rrps had increased slightly, and reduction to only 35% off.. so mycar may be better when OP offer starts

  • +10

Even at 50% off probs dearer than Tempe tyres still

    • Not with all Pirelli tyres. I have compared the Pirelli Scorpion AT+ tyres, Tempe tyres is more expensive.

  • +7

Is Jack in town for this?

    • Nah, just jackass

    • +4

How else do you lift up the car to change the tyres?

      • +3

        1x Samoan

    • +1

      He's never leaves this town.

  • Thank the lord. Replaced ours in January 2023 from the 2022 BF deal and we’re pretty much there now.

I’ve checked pricing for our tyres (255/40/21) and Tempe and Bob Jane both come in more expensive.

    • +3

      255/40/21

      They are monster tyres

      • Wait till you see what high performance cars run on their driven axle - often 335s or wider. 265-275 on the front.

        • 100%
I have an old US muscle car with 15" steamroller rims and tyres. Always gets comments. Particularly as Aussie equiv models can't fit anything similar.

But when I started checking modern performance cars, as I walk past… everything from Camaros, porches, Audi, whatever… They make mine look black & chrome cheezels.

      • I was contemplating going 265/40/21 for a bit more comfort, especially if they’re cheaper.

        • I'm in the same boat requiring the 255's. Damn expensive tyre. I'd be taking the Bob Jane deal for these, just over $400 a tyre with discount for the Pirelli PZero's.
Hoping I can eke another year out of mine to make it to Black Friday next year!

          • @Capitano: The current RRP at MyCar for the (Audi) 255 is $799, balanced and fitted, so it should be pretty much bang on $1600 for the 4 corners which beats everything I’ve seen, so far. The 265 has the potential to be slightly cheaper.

            • @Orrelljet: @Orrelljet appreciate the maths! Definitely take this up. I got them for the same car 4 years back at $365 per tyre. $400 seems a great price.

    • +1

You used up your tyres in just 2 years?

      • In 25K-ish, yes.

  • In 2022, used this to match local Jax tyres to replace with 215/55R17 94V Cinturato P7 Pirelli. In general, how often tyre change are recommended…in last 2 yts we have done hardly 15-16k.

    • +8

I'd look at how much wear your tyres have. There are wear indicators in the groove of your tyres, check both the front and the back.

      https://www.tyremarket.com/tyremantra/tread-wear-indicator/

There's no set amount of KM's you do before they need replacing, same with age. Tyres aren't all the same, and won't be entirely comparable to other models of cars either. Some performance tyres only see 15,000km, where some 4x4 tyres can see 100,000km before they need replacing.

Keep an eye on it, but basically the main ways to see are either if you see cracking in the tyres (or they're just feeling very hard or aren't as grippy as they used to be) or the wear hits the indicators then it's time.

      • thanks for the response. I will check it out.

      • ^ truth.
I remember seeing used Bugatti Veyron tyres being sold for peanuts, but no one would touch them… Cos they aged-out. Even sitting on the shelf, they had a chemical use-by for any chance of warranty/insurance.

        It's complicated.

        • Tyres on Lamborgini Contach need to replaced every 4 years even if the car sits idle in a garage for that time.

So not only need to be changed for wear but also age.

      • -1

        Fair comments….observe behavior, condition etc.

Michelin PS4 235/40 R18: manufactured 2016, installed 2018, currently 1-2 mm above wear indicators, many 1mm edge cracks. Not as good & noisy compare to new, but still grip & deliver…fine for coming summer: mostly dry roads & warm/hot weather, but vigilant though.

But heading toward winter: wet & cold roads (hello!), surprises from new route, changes in grip level, higher-speed, closer to wear indicators etc…@ or closer to limit ?

        • +3

Those tyres are cooked. You'll notice a huge difference with some new rubber, and also be much safer.

          • @BillyG687: Thanks for your concerns & neg.

I know a little about tyres, not your average Joe & know what to do at the limit 🤔…but most of the time, I drive for mileage, lol.

            • +2

@ab c: Well, honestly you should know better with 8 year old PS4's. It's not just about not driving to the limit, but the random conditions you can be met with - but you should know that knowing a little about tyres…

    • Have you been rotating your tyres?

      • actually I have not. Someone did mention to us before. Challenge is we drive so less, this just get out of mind. I shall check the indicators on tyres as suggested previously…

        • Basically should be done when you get your car serviced. Which depending on the brand should be every 6 months (no idea why some brands are still like this) or 12 months if you're not driving much.

      • +11

        Dad: every time I drive

    • +1

5-6 years atleast depending on how much ur drive or abuse ur car

    • My Cinturato P7s are 225/50 so slightly different profile from yours but same 17"s. When I changed them at 53Ks(very risky move) the rear were worn down to pretty much bare, anymore it would be flat bald. When I mean bald, I mean some spots have metal braid exposed. 7 years of normal driving, kids and speed allergic wife. Some parts of the walls has developed micro-cracks which I have never seen before in my other tyres, I only notice them when they were being replaced. Pretty comfortable tyres but aging technology, they are at least 15 years old if they haven't changed the formulation. I have tyres that last as little as 35Ks and as high as 85Ks in my other cars.

  • +8

‘Mycar’ customer handling, services and quality of work can be so unstable, at least based on location.

Alternative to get well priced tyres and services is ‘tyresales’, + 12 months road side assistance included. (on the tyres/ related)

Tyresales price match as well via email/ call.

    https://www.tyresales.com.au/search?search=size&sortby=1&c=3…

    • +10

Agree with this. Got mine last deal and was told to come in for installation.

Cleared my schedule, dropped my car off at the shop with the staff, and got someone to pick me up to go back home.

Got a call two hours later and they said we don’t actually have the tyres in stock, and please come pick your car up again.

Bunch of clowns - they had multiple opportunities to check and inform me or tell me to come in, or even do the most basic check when I was dropping my car off to save me the trouble.

All up it took me almost 3 months to get it installed after getting pushed back a couple of times.

      • +9

Absolute clowns of employees who don’t care about anything but their fortnightly pay.

I had an unexpected puncture one day - and at the time- I had an injury on one of my fingers (thus preventing me swap the wheel myself)

‘Mycar’ happens to be a stone throw away and I thought I’d pop in to have them change it for me at a fee of course. They told me ok, I paid-up and they asked me to wait a little before they address my wheel.

They had me wait for 10mins or so before one of them comes out to say they are ‘busy until next week’ and they couldn’t assist me at this time. It’s a wheel swap ffs and they clearly can see my bandage on my injured finger.

At that point I just called RAC roadside assistance (which I should have done in the first place) and had them swap the wheel for me at ‘Mycar’ car park.

        • +1

I think they are clowns too.

They claimed 2 punctures in my tyre were ‘unrepairable’ and tried to sell me a new tyre; $262.

I went to a proper tyre place. They fixed the puncture. I asked about the other one and they told me it’s fine it didn’t go through.

        • +3

What a clown show. If they were busy they could have told you on the spot instead of taking payment.

Same in my case - just engage a few brain cells, or you know, do your job.

      • +4

That’s terrible. Deserves a bad review. Businesses like this shouldnt operate.

      • I had a similar - but I think even worse - experience.

Not only did they not have the right tyres for my Audi, they claimed that another tyre was "exactly the same, just Volvo branded", and they proposed putting those on instead, for the same price. I did a little digging and whaddya know, the Volvo branded tyre had a lower speed rating and had a normal price that was about 30% cheaper.

    • I had to drop a car off there via tow truck on an emergency as my normal mechanic was not available charged $1050 for replacing belt and harmonic balancer (fair enough).

BMW the car broke down the next day an hour and a half from home and once back from holidays mechanic said all they should have done to avoid the second breakdown is put it on a charge when working on it

    • +1

MyCar have been legitimately terrible in terms of service every single time I’ve had the bad luck of having to deal with them. I avoid them like the plague. These “deals” are not worth pursuing.

    • Yeah, can confirm poor srevice, I also went through a lot of trouble with them due to their poor communication / systems. I booked and paid for tyres at last Black Friday sale, and mentioned that I wanted to wait until after Xmas or in Jan because I was travelling overseas and the tyres still had some tread left so I wasn't in a rush anyway. They advised that ordering the tyres would also take some time. They ended up ordering wrong type of tyres, which weren't even suitable for my car. Took some time off work, dropped my car there, only to find out they had wrong type of tyres. There was a lot of back and forth….wasted about 6 months with them….In the end, they couldn't find my payment confirmation, so I had to find the SMS payment link that I had used which was the only confirmation that i had of the payment. Had to escalate to their customer service…etc. Was quite an ordeal.

    • Fortunately my experience at my local MyCar was good.

  • Do we need to make a booking now for next Friday? Or we make order next Friday for any availability day in future?

    • +5

No you make them next Friday for jan - Feb fitting… Just like the ad says

      • Thanks Mr

  • +6

Mycars price is much higher. Bobjane is having 40% off pirelli. And after discount, almost same price as mycars

    • +2

Bob Jane has reduced the discount to 35% off since last week.

      • I picked up 4 tyres from bob on Friday and I checked the bill, yes, it’s 35% off. But it’s the same price as mycars 50% off according to their website.

        • +1

Read my post above, prices depending on which Pirelli models. I bought my Pirellli Scorpion AT+ from Bob Jane over a week ago while it was still on 40% off, but it was still about $15 more expensive per tyre than this Mycar deal.

          • @edfoo: $15 is fine. They let me took the tyres and free installation any time next year

            • @rhyme324: Nice! My local said fitted within 7 days for the promotion.

    • +1

Id avoid Mycar even if it cost more. They are a sh!tshow

  • How do their Logbook service prices compare to other providers?

    • +1

I just did my 90k service vs Toyota and it was $400 dearer

      Car RAV4 hybrid

      • +5

Indeed, the $100 logbook discount is just to get you in the door, then you realise it wasn't worth it.

        • @MrThing @dbmitch Thanks for the feedback. I'll shop around.

          • @rickb: To confirm on both Toyota and mycar website you can do estimated service cost

For me it was 568 at Toyota vs 1006 at my car
