  • buy this. or wait for black friday?!

    • +89

That depends on how much tread you have left.

    • +5

You will have a much easier time booking and getting stock now compared to BF deal

      • Possible to buy the tyres now and use them later? I do have treads left in my car tyres so I don't think it's super urgent to change.

        • Of course it's possible, but my car prices would be fitted. You'll need to pay again for someone to 'fit only and dispose' later, negating some of the savings.

        • If you can change the tyres yourself or know someone who will do it for you then why not… Although I've read somewhere that certain mechanics/shops won't fit tyres that have been sold by another store due to safety/reliability concerns.

        • No, if you want the 40% off the deal is buy and have them fitted (by their agents) between 5th and 29th June 2024

    • +12

There's no guarantee of another black friday sale or it will be @ 50%. I'd get it now if you need them.

      • +17

Commercial trends don't guarantee the future, but…
In 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020 MyCar offered the same 50% off Pirelli tyres for Black Friday sales.

If you have the tread, and want to save an extra 10%, you might save more. However, tyre prices might go up also by then.

        • +5

          Mycar price already skyhigh

    • Depend on this 10% saving is more important than your tyres safety, one accident will cost you way more than this, not worth it …

    • Wow, 40% off and you still want more?

      • +1

The prices are crap, are you not familiar with eBay jacking where is it 20% off but they raise prices 20%. Can be 90% off but if the end price is still $1000 a tyre it is crap deal. MyCar is supposed to be affordable but they have the highest prices currently for a lot of tyres so it is not really 40%.

Edit: Just checked JAX tyres is cheaper for Pirelli P Zero in my size lol, so yeah "40% super sale" lol

        • -3

The smell of entitlement in the air is overwhelming.

          • +2

@magic8ballgag: So when consumers pay high prices we say it’s the consumers fault for accepting high prices! When they complain about high prices, we say they’re entitled!

            • @SailorGoon: Expecting reasonable prices and 50% off everything are two different things, don't exaggerate.

We're all here for a good deal, but some members just expect to have their cake and eat it too.

        • I got 4x p7s for $860, about 200 off compared to Jax tyres which also have a deal running and is a cashback deal. Pretty good if you ask me

  • +44

Wasted my morning last year during Pirelli 50% off black Friday deal when they took my car and then called a few hours later saying they have no stock of the tyres and won't have any for at least a month. Refund took ages too, will not deal with ever again.

    • That sucks. Did you order online or over the phone?

    • +7

I ended up getting my tyres fitted in January.
Stock took a while to arrive. But the price was right.

      • +2

Yeah I waited until January too. I rang a couple of days before the fitting day to make sure my tyres would be available, as they usually aren’t.
So worth it on RRP $2500 worth of tyres.

      • +1

Yea worth waiting for if you have the slightest bit of tread left haha

        • +3

They didn't have stock of mine either, was a good opportunity to stretch it out because I still had a bit of tread left, so I stretched it out as long as I could. Worked out nicely. The first time I got on this deal there was all sorts of issues with the site but when calling them mycar were actually quite reasonable about things so managed to get a good result

    • +4

I have the smoothest transaction with them. Bad luck on your side

      • I had no issues either. In fact, they went out of their way to assist.

    • +3

Jax price matched the MyCar deal on 5x pirelli Scorpion AT tyres for my mate last year so keep that in mind for next time! Might depend on the franchise though.

    • They didn't offer another tyre? I got some cotnis

    • +1

I had a really smooth experience with the Black Friday sale - no wait on the website and had an effortless transaction.

    • I had the same problem, went back twice and then complained to customer support and they price matched a set of Continentals which I was actually happier about.

  • Just put a set of ecopias on all corners… pirelli scorpions had also been recommended… oh well.

    • Could always buy a spare tyre

      • What are you talking about? Money saved would all go to the fitment instead. If he needs a spare, just use the spare tyre

        • +2

          I thought I was making a joke.

          • -1

@TEER3X: You have no idea what you are doing. Only randoms on the Internet truly understand what you are thinking

    • +1

I had a set of ecopias, didn't like them. Only lasted 40k.

      • What tyre did you change to (and was the alternate better), what car (or rim size)?

I had a set of Toyo tyres which were factory / came with the car… lasted 45,000km

        • CRV. I just changed to 225/60 R18 continental techcontact TC6 $254 each, they are pretty good so far even in the rain.

          • @sintro: Awesome thanks heaps… similar car/tyre size. Will see how we go.

            Cheers!

      • No one is meant to like any tyre with Eco in the name, they are meant to tolerate them.

  • +3

Got some during BF sale. Very happy

  • +2

My car tyre care plan that comes with the tyres are great. Free puncture repair, every 6 month rotation (I do it annually when I go to them for the pink slip inspection) and air pressure check done proper (peace of mind the valve is in place than DIY) I do everytime I go to the mall.
Waiting for the stock toyo tyres of the other car to ware of to get in to a set of Pirells.

    • Very good point. MyCar may also be convenient for more people.
Wish I had known about the puncture repair. I’ve done 7 repairs on my Scorpion AT+ in 2.5 years. They’ve all been screws so I am reluctant to blame the tyres but I had no punctures on the previous tyres (Dick Cepeks) in the 3 years prior. The DCs were terrible in every other aspect compared to the Pirellis. Maybe that’s the trade off of a softer compound.
How have you found the wear of your Pirellis?

      • +4

Do you drive a forklift at a screw factory?

        • Sounds like a lot, but maybe he lives near me, which is a nice straight rat run with speed humps right near a massive Bunnings.

    • air pressure check done proper (peace of mind the valve is in place than DIY)

If the valve isn't in place then your tyre will go flat quickly

DIY air pressure check (inflating the tyre) doesn't need you to change the valve.

  • Will Bob Jane price beat?

    • +15

Yes, but only if you walk in and sing 'Bob Jaaaaaane Tee Maaaaaart'

      • +2

You mean you don't do this when you walk in anyway?

      • +10

Whoops, I went in and bellowed "Frank Walker here for National Tiiiiiiilllleeesss."

        They actually increased the price.

        • +1

Same when I tried 'Grand Sale Franco Cozzo - Brunswick and Footscray'?!?

  • CX9 could do with some upgraded tyres thanks OP.

    • Scorpion zeros ?

      • Got Scorpion Zero last BF sale for CX9 and I detected slightly more noise than the standard tyres that came with the car. Anyone else with the same experience?

        • guess i'll let you know in 8 days, was hoping they'd be similar to the falken tyres

        • yes, notibly more noise after swapping out the stock falken for zeros, shame

  • +1

I got the scorpion all terrains in BF sale and have been impressed. Good grip and low road noise. Should last quite a while with the level of tread on them.

    • +2

My Scorpios All Verde have lasted 35k so far and still about 6mm tread left. On a Kluger.

      • On a Kluger.

Put the savings towards the fuel bill. Those things are thirsty.

      • Are they good in wet roads? Heard few reviews stating they understeer and not great on wet roads

    • I got the Scorpion ATs 2 years ago. Excellent tyres but wear very quickly. I don’t reckon I’ll be legal by the time this Black Friday comes around. I’d recommend rotating them every oil change. They’ve got 25k on them.

  • -1

Does this apply to special orders as well? I’m looking for the following tyres for my EV:
    2 x 265/35R21
    2 x 295/30R21

    • Yes. At least it did on BF sale.

  • +5

Tempe Tyres current prices are about 30-40% lower right now. Just checked a couple of models.

    • +2

Yeah, mycar have always been around 30% more expensive than places like tyresales for pirellis.
It's a reasonable deal if you really want pirellis and need then now but if you were ever going to pay mycars regular pricing you should leave Ozb immediately

      • That sucks. Anywhere to check the price history of tyres? That would help.

    • +2

$300 more at tempe tyres for me, so guess it depends what tyres

265/75/16 Pirelli AT x4 $900 at my car vs $1200 at Tempe tyres

Mycar sale price vs Tempe current price

      • +2

        Pirelli Cinturato P7
        $335 @ TT
        $403 @ Bob Jane
        $404 @ Jax
        $509 @ MYCar

Clearly >20% more expensive than competitors now thus not really 40% saving (unless you're loyal MyCar customer).

        • +1

Right now yes, but when sale is on which this post is about they are cheaper, yes?

          • +3

@Mikinoz: My point is that this 40% is fake. In reality it is like 5-10% cheaper compared to other companies and only if they keep their current prices as current.

Cinturato P7 @ MyCar will be $305 with discount. You could go to Bob Jane now and ask to beat Tempe Tyres $335 by 10%, meaning you could potentially get certain tyres now cheaper then during this sale.

            • +1

@vovka: It's always fake though. Once you apply the additional 40% it's cheaper right. Which is why this post is relevant

            • +2

@vovka: Be mindful a lot of places won't price match/beat Tempe as they parallel import a lot of their stock.

    • +2

Check the manufacture dates on Tempe ones. Been burnt a couple of times

      • I believe they now say if the tyres are old on their website. But true, anything can happen.

      • +1

Same. Bought dodgy tyres from Tempe Tyres that didn't even last 2 mths. Buy from them at own risk.

        • +1

Yep, didn't know this and bought a set that lasted less than 12 months. Lesson learnt to ask the manufacturing date if I ever go there again.

          • @Ace26: They are printed on the tyre

        • Do you mean they wore out after 2 months or something else?

    • Do they still parallel import?

  • I thought they may do the same for Michelin, but apparently, they even don't sell them.

    • What made you think that?

    • +1

Michelin very tightly control pricing and are only available at select retailers, best you will get on Michelins is a ~$100 off a set promo + Costco pricing.

      • +1

Michelin do up to $240 off sets of 4 at times. Tyres Plus get the biggest cashbacks as they are a predominantly Michelin dealer and i have found them to usually be the cheapest price as well.

        • Thanks, I did not know Tyres Plus is a big Michelin dealer. I buy them from BJ. Next time I chase TP prices. Energy XM2+ (was with $50 cashback) done more than 100K kms, and still would drove more 50K kms, though not the best comfort one.

      • This is true, I always had a hard time when it comes to Michelins. Either very little discount or no discount at all. I feel like Michelin tyre shops are fixed price stores. I try to avoid them nowadays, plenty of other brands to choose from if you are not after the Pilots.

  • This or wait till BF my car is close to 60,000km on its current set they probably will need a change soon

    • How close are the tread wear indicators to the tread? Are all the tyres worn evenly?

  • Buy and hoard in storage ? Just got new car in September 23 so rubbers new as unhatched chickens.

    • +4

Might as well wait for the next sale tbh

    • Depends how much you drive. Tyres age so if you use them within 2 yrs then it is OK to buy and storr. But you slso have to store them right. But I think it is a better deal to wait for future sale. As others pointed out, this is more of a 20% saving really, not 40, and there might be better deals in the meantime.

      • If you store then future will have to pay fittings - extra costs

  • +4

    Can stack with Shopback 2.4%

  • Any good to fit into my 2018 Mercedes GLC250D? My rear tyre worn out so need to change only rear. Currently wearing ultra contact uc6 on front & rear

  • Honestly I find continentals or Michelin's better. The p Zero Corsa tyres I have are pretty bad wear (within 15000km) and poor grip when cold and wet.

  • Took the Golf around a track on P Zero's. They grip OK first 2 laps (after 1 warm up lap) but on the 3rd hot lap they lose grip significantly. This was the same scenario throughout the entire day. Day to day driving and wet road conditions it is great.

    • +1

Yeah, that is normal for these tires. They are grippy but not made for track use. They overheat fast. Just like Michelin Pilot Sports. Trade off for devent wet and cold performance.
Pilot Sport S are better in that regard but a worse daily driver.

    • Yep! Found the same on track day on the i30n as they come stock with P Zero, starting to loose grip as they heat up. I don’t think I’d get another set of P Zero when they’re done. Might try Bridgestones Potenza Sports next. 3 for 4 deal.

      • Before next track day I'm going to put on Yokohama ADVAN Sport V107. They are $250 each for 19's at Tyroola
