Don’t trust MyCar. They will damage your car.

    • +2

      What happened to yours?

      • +11

They tried to fix other stuff even though I told them not to. Also did a poor job at fixing what I told them to do. Cowboy mechanics-you’ve been warned!

        • +2

Might vary from location to location, I have taken our two cars to MyCar this year and both times pretty happy with the service and price, no damage or anything. One of them was to do a basic service and replace a broken engine mount. No complaints here.

          • @Nebargains: A friend of mine had his engine mount replaced. They damage her car while trying to remove the old engine mount. The replacement OEM engine mount didn’t last long either because it wasn’t a genuine part, which her car needed.

            • +2

              @MuddyClear:

The replacement OEM engine mount didn’t last long either because it wasn’t a genuine part

              Ok

        • +14

So you got a dud mechanic and this makes you think every mechanic that works for the same place are all exactly the same?
          Where do you work?

          • +2

@1st-Amendment: Their business model is highly geared to up selling repairs and tyres. They recommended I replace all my tyres even though two of them were still good. They will recommend you do lots of fixes, and if you don’t know much about cars you might regrettable get sucked in.

            • -1

@MuddyClear: What are you basing this on?

Your mechanic might do this, other mycar mechanics do not.

              What a stupid post.

            • +1

@MuddyClear: Majority of mechanics/tyre shops will do this though..

You just have to stand firm and tell them no

              • +1

@Danstar: Of course I told them no, but they won’t take no for an answer and go a head and do it anyway! And this has happened at another MyCars as well. Also my friends and family have had similar experiences.

                • +4

@MuddyClear: I had an alternator belt changed without my authorisation once. It hapened at Ultra Tune mechanics. I've paid for that and then regretted and wrote a letter to head office. Next day the guy from Ultra Tune called me and said that next service they deduct the cost of belt replacement. And it was good to have $220 back. Just stand up for your hard earned money.

                  • +5

@Michael1983: It's illegal to charge for a service you didn't request, hence the refund lol

                    • +2

@Slippery Fish: Not really a refund though, more like store credit, which I wouldn't have accepted.

                      • +1

@keejoonc: You just refuse to pay that part the bill.

My parents had a sonata that they did this funny custom clutch for then wanted $4500 on a car worth 3-4 grand. Parents ended up just paying parts (as the other option was they put the fked clutch back).

Was a beautiful clutch to use.

                  • @Michael1983: Now this sounds like ultra tune. Never had a good experience with them in my family.

                  • @Michael1983: $220 to fit an alternator belt. Holy cr@p beltman. Which car?

    • strange mine is good.

    • +5

Only a brave man would step foot at "MyCar".

      • Can you ask them to only change the tyres? Surely can't mess that up…

        • Wrong. They will scratch your rims. Then perform a routine inspection, and find things to fix, and do so without your authorisation. They may call you to tell you about it. If you’re smart you will say no, but they will go ahead and do it anyway.

        • -1

MyCar used to be known as KMart Tyre.

Bought Goodyears from KTAS… they managed to rip out 2 wheel studs. Waited 2 extra hours for spareparts to get delivered… and they still saw it fit to charge me for the parts they broke!!

I'm a slow learner, again went back to KTAS for tyres. Ordered tyres… come time to collect car, they've tacked on an unauthorised wheel alignment.

Meh… next time… (yeah) I took them loose wheels to put tyres on. Bit harder tacking on upsells when they ain't got my car hahahaha!!

          • @Tamiya: "they've tacked on an unauthorised wheel alignment."

            lol

    • +1

      Alright, won't trust YourCar

  • +15

I went to MyCar for new tyres. They scratched every wheel on the car fitting the tyres. I went back and they claimed it was like that. Lucky I took photos of the car the day before. They eventually agreed to have them all repaired.

    • +11

Yep always take pictures of rims (if not metal) before hand

      • +2

Good idea, going to start doing this

      • ^this

  • +1

any idea if we can just buy one tyre to pick up? just need it for a spare wheel i am currently painting

  • Seems like a pretty decent deal…

  • +3

Price beat at Bob Jane T-Marts?

    • +1

I normally do this. But I find for bigger discounts they don't do fully. But I'd pay 20% more at my local Bob Jane anyway. That said, it is a franchise so not all Bob Jane are as top notch. Check reviews

    • +6

My local Bob Jane agreed to price beat. They called me to say that they will check the price on Friday and go on from there, but have no issues price beating by an additional 10%.

      • does it have to be in stock for them to price beat

        • Not sure. The only thing they asked me after was when I was going to get the tyres fitted.

  • Buy now fit later?

    • +3

3.0 Offer Tyres must be booked to be fitted on a date between Wednesday 2 December 2020 and Tuesday 2 March 2021. If Offer Tyres are fitted outside of this fitment period, the full cost of all the tyres in the transaction will be payable.

    • Tempted to just buy the tyres and fit elsewhere

      • Yep I’m wondering if we can do this

  • +30

All Pirellis currently showing as 'limited stock' for my car and unable to order online.

Looks like a bit of a bait and switch promo from my perspective.

    • +2

Same here in WA, tried several locations and all are call for availability.

    • -1

      Depends on location I think.
I have got the exact size on my current wheels available for booking on the dragon sport, near one of 3 stores near me that I checked.
But if they go through with the 50% discount, it's a great deal.
Even better for people stacking with AMEX and Flybuy offers.

      • isn't the amex offer expired?

        • Mate, you'r right, amex offer are expired. I was thinking people took the offer but hasn't spent it yet, could spend here.
if not applicable, I take it back.

          • +1

@1-Bargain: I only mentioned it because I was waiting to use the offer and this would have been perfect.

      • What flybuy offer?

    • +1

Yep, every matching tyre available except this brand making this "deal" seem super fishy. It maybe should be flagged as unobtainable.

    • +5

      Hey there

I work for mycar, stock will be increased for Pirelli tyres for the sale on Friday and also make sure that you set the store on the website, as this will provide up to date stock for your location. Make sure that you get in early Friday as we are expecting lots of people will take up the offer.

      Cheers

      • Can you get some PZ4 put on the website?

      • Will the deal be live from midnight?

        • Sure will!

          • @sallyj: Hopefully there will be some rft tyres in stock. Tried many locations and they all said the stock is limited :(

            • @tkwhuang: hey @tkwhuang, we are busy adding stock ready for tomorrow, make sure to check back on the site tomorrow morning, or a midnight if you are super keen!

              • @sallyj: can we see stock now. Or do you have it set to update at midnight?

              • @sallyj: @sallyj thank you. I'll check it at midnight ;)

    • this reminds me of free doughnuts in 7-11

    • Yep same, saying limited on most tyres in my local store. I also took a screenshot of the prices now in case they price jack before applying 50% off.

    • Nothing available anywhere in SE qld. This is a dud deal. Like anything Kmart no stock.

      • Called them at 2am Brissie time and waited 20 mins cause all my tyres were out everywhere and they ordered it in no hassles for mid december install

  • +1

Would p zeros be equivalent to Bridgestone re003/michelin ps4s?

  • Sadly they do not have Pirelli Tyres for my SUV in stock.

And there is this in the T&C:
Book online or by telephone with mycar, between 12.01am AEDT and 11.59pm AEDT on Friday 27 November 2020, for the purchase and fitment of any in stock Pirelli tyres and receive a discount of 50% off the recommended retail price of those tyres (Offer Tyres) subject to these Terms and Conditions.

  • +10

Had a bad experience with KTAS so probably the exact same mechanics now wearing a MyCar shirt, would never trust those clowns again.

    • +2

Same - my local KTAS they can't even do a simple wheel alignment.

    • Same here, had a Jeep serviced there for a while and they missed worn down radiator hoses. They failed on be mid drive and eventually had a breakdown due to over heating. Useless.

    • +1

It was ages ago, had a log book service done with them, they charged for things they didn't do (like replace coolant), I knew it because I had topped it up a week prior and over did it (it was still the same when I picked up the car)
I doubt if they did anything at all other than oil and possible filter change.
Never would trust this muppets again
That being said tyres at 50% discount sounds a good deal but as per others do take pictures of wheels before hand

  • +1

What I want to know is how can we determine the Recommended Retail Price?
I don't think the current prices listed on MyCar are RRP.

    • At least my tyres listed now is the same as listed a year ago, and I did my research a year ago, JAX (higher) Bob Jane (same).
So I think their RRP is ok.

      • I get your point MyCar may generally lower than than their competitors. But manufacturer RRP is not the same as store regular price.

If store regular price is $200, but Manufacture RRP is $400. Then 50% discount off RRP is no saving.
Need to know the RRP to know what the actual price is going to be.

        • +1

ok, I get you. Maybe I should have said their listed price was ok.
I hope they sell these at 1/2 their listed price on Friday, it s a pretty good deal if that happens.

  • +2

Fully recommend mycar sylvania nsw. Got my tyres done, friendly, professional and no issues. Got a puncture, unable to fix, replaced tyre free of charge as per their guarantee. Will always get my tyres done there. Theyve got a 4.1 star rating on google review with over 100 reviews which to be honest is pretty good as most people only go to the effort of writing bad reviews😅

  • I wonder if anyone else will have similar deals on other brand tyres/ tires

  • combine with flybuys offer 100 off 500

    • What deal is this?

        • Will this work as I was wondering where is payment made and flybuys applied?

          • @chyawala: when settling your bill at mycar, he should ask you for flybuys card

            • @badsadlad: So you can't enter your flybuys during online checkout? Which means unless you can get them installed on the 27th or 28th then there's no chance of getting the bonus points?

              • @CVonC: first of all you need to have and activate this offer in your flybuys app
in conditions of the offer it says

present your flybuys card in-store at time of purchase during promotional period

          • @chyawala: may not work if you're not targeted

  • What are peoples experience with Pirelli like?

I cant find any reviews for these.

    • +1

I put on the Dragon Sport 10k km ago (it's weird I didn't find the marks where they are made, my guess is China), replaced stock Continental conti sport contact 5 (made in Germany) tyres. I remember the first drive on the Pirelli, I found them were quieter and smoother than the conti, probably because they were new vs the old.

If anyone drives like me, driving a family car, start stop at the lights as usual, not like a racer on the street.
Then I can say after 10k drive, the Pirelli performed on par with the conti imho, wet and dry, wear and tear, I had no bad experiences with them.

  • Their website is slow as hell…

    • Ozbargained for sure, it was lightning fast 2 days ago. Lol

  • What's better in terms of tread wear life? P6 or P7?

  • Do they have to be in stock or can we order them on Friday

  • +12

Italian brand, but CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY owned!!! A Big NO!
I will support our fellow Japanese allies instead.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirelli

    Owner ChemChina (45.5%)[2]
    Marco Tronchetti Provera (10.05%)[3]

State-owned China National Chemical Corp (ChemChina) took over Pirelli two years ago (2015) by taking a 65 percent stake in the holding company controlling the maker of Ferrari racing tyres, which was then de-listed from the Milan bourse.

    • Dunno why downvoted. It's a fair enough criticism.

      • except nearly every single deal TanedaR has posted is made in China, affiliated or a Chinese company..

didn't downvote but silly is silly.

        • +1

Please resit your primary maths exam lol

While we can't 100% avoid made in China products (iphones), it's just so easy to boycott Chinese OWNED brands. (Huawei)
