        • Cheers, will actually avoid now. I was thinking if its $100 off, i must at least be saving $50 for a basic service

        • ^ insert some joke about marriage

    • 2 years ago, My quote went up by exactly $100 after tyre purchase

    • Hit and miss.

Often dearer than dealer, however I had my car serviced there in September with $100 off.

      Kia $600
      Mycar $488 - $100 off = $388

    • Ive had my car serviced twice with mycar and each time they came back with a huge list of things that they make seem urgent. Last time they told me i had a power steering leak and ive been checking my levels for over 12 months and the levels haven't dropped. They also said i needed shocks replaced when there is no noise and continues to be no noise or problems after 12 months. May be just my store trying to upsell, but i won't be going back.

  • Michelin Primacys are $680 in my size at Costco, or $400 for Pirelli Powergys here. Will the Michelins last longer? Coming from Turanza Serenity Plus.

    • Turanza Serenity Plus.

I've been through a couple of sets of these and they are awesome.

      • Michelin lasts at least 2x other brand tyres.

        • Thanks. Decision made I think!

        • +5

          That's a big claim.

          • +3

@MS Paint: It's all a trade off. Softer compound, in general, means better grip, quieter and comfier.

Trade off is quicker wear and less fuel efficiency.

I had a set of Pirelli's and they are so soft I only got a years wear out of them!

If the Michelin lasts twice as long, it means harder rubber, so maybe less grip and more noise.

When it comes to high end brands and prices you just have to decide on priorities

            • +1

              @slipperypete: Username checks out?

            • @slipperypete: Surely safety is peoples number one priority when buying the things that keep their car sliding into a tree or oncoming traffic

              • +1

                @MrThing:

Surely safety is people's number one priority when buying the thing

No. Most people work on a cost basis and then diminishing returns to decide how much they will spend.

Everything is a cost/benefit compromise. Also, it doesn't mean bad grip, just that softer tyres have more. Any of these tyres are miles ahead of those made 20 years ago.

            • +1

@slipperypete: Longer lasting tyres doesn't always means harder rubber or less comfy. It all comes down to the overall design but I find that certain brands especially ultra high performance tyres usually needs replacing more often.

              • @skillet: Yeah, I totally agree! However, once we get into the higher-priced tyres, everything becomes a system of compromises to suit different usages and preferences.
I'm not even 100% sure that Pirelli tyres are really that soft a compound. What I didn't notice, though, was that they were very grippy and comfortable compared with my last set of tyres. I have replaced them with Kumho Mud and Snow type (4WD), and I can't honestly say I can notice the change in grip, as of course, this varies depending on how much wear there is.
Unfortunately, for the driving that I do the Pirelli's just aren't suitable

          • +1

@MS Paint: Yeah, sounds like a Michelin fanboi. I know Michelin have generally premium good quality tyres, but twice as long lasting as other premium brand tyres is a bit ridiculous.

            • @edfoo: I confirm that Michelin Energy MX2 lasted 120K kms.

              • @SYLTB: YMMV.

              • @SYLTB: That is just you using your tyres. What is the official claim by Michelin?

                • @edfoo: WTF this? I did 120K and still 1/3-1/2 thread on them another 40K easy-peasy. Michelin's claim 125K kms. You must be a fanboi of one particular brand.

                  • +1

@SYLTB: You are correct, my apology, that Energy XM2 is a long lasting tyre, though not all Michelin tyres last twice as long as the other comparable brands. I am not a fanboi of other brands by the way, two cars in my family one is a Mazda 3 running on Michelin Primacy 4 ST and a Tesla Model 3 running on Michelin e-Primacy, they are nice, soft and comfortable tyres around urban areas.

              • @SYLTB:

Michelin Energy MX2 lasted 120K kms

Seems like an outlier & consider sharing a detailed experience @ the site below.

                https://www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre/Michelin/Energy-XM2.htm

      • +1

Yeah - very happy with them - they are only just falling off in the wet now at approx 50k km/5.5 years. I'd be looking at circa $800 for a replacement set though.

      • They're certainly good value when the 'buy three get one free' deal comes up and do last a long time. Don't seem to hold up well on wet roads, though.

    • +1

      Get the Michelins

    • +1

Are Costco cheap for tyres or is Tempe cheaper?

I'm in the market for new RAV4 tyres in the next 10k/km, the stock ones have almost done 80k and there's still a little bit more before the wear bars

      • +1

Why not just get the same, 80k is great mileage from a single set of tyres.

  • Fantastic deal

  • +1

Reading terms and conditions doesn’t specify you need to buy 4? I only need to replace 2 tyres.

    • +6

its 50% off the brand, buy one tyre if you want, its not a buy 3 get one free deal so dw.

      • Thanks for that. Will get two replaced on husbands pathfinder

  • Any Michelin Energy deal? It does not have to be 50%off. Even 40% off OK.

  • Where do you find treadwear ratings on tires these days?? Trying to find ones around the 500 to 600 mark.

These two below are both 600

    Hankook ion Evo as
    Bridgestone turanza xl

    Need more options

    • Running Michelin pilot 4 right now at 45k still got a bit of life in them

  • +5

I bought the Pirelli scorpion verde all season for my suv from the 2022 black friday sales. Great tyre for driving but just way too soft. Just got to 30000km and they are bald. Did all my rotations and and alignments with mycar too.

Got Mycar to match Bobjane on the 40% off on the Kumho. Seems good so far.

    • +3

See my comment below, Pirelli are no longer the quality Italian brand they once were.

    • Great tyre for driving but just way too soft. Just got to 30000km and they are bald.

Half the price for half the endurance

This fake deal has been running since 2020 and people are still clamouring for it

If you're in Sydney, skip Kmart and head to Tempe Tyres

      • Reasons why Tempe Tyres are cheaper are well known. Buy at own risk. MyCar has 12 mths road damage warranty and free tyre rotation

        • I read Tempe Tyres sell grey import tyres, so does that affect the warranty compared to purchasing from Mycar or Bob Jane?

        • +1

Reasons why Tempe Tyres are cheaper are well known.

Yes, they cut out the Australian head office tax

When you buy from Tempe, you're not funding the lux offices at Pyrmont:

          Pirelli Tyres Australia Pty Ltd
Building B, City West Business Park
          33-35 Saunders Street
          Pyrmont NSW 2009
          Australia

          Buy at own risk.

          There is no risk

Tyres sold at Tempe comply with ADR's 23 and 42, just like MyCar and every other legit tyre shop in Australia

MyCar has 12 mths road damage warranty and free tyre rotation

Another warranty that does not work in the real world

For AWD/4WD vehicles, you need to replace all 4 tyres

For FWD/RWD vehicles, you need to replace at least 2 on the same axle

If you have a mismatch on any 1 of the 4 tyres, you can't rotate diagonally in the future

You can choose to ignore the above and let MyCar replace the 1 tyre but you'll be the one suffering the drivetrain damage and/or uneven tyre wear on the other 3 tyres

    • Yeah I have gone for Kumho after only 1 years life on my Pirelli's.

Mines a large 4WD and I drive up and down winding Alpine roads everyday which didn't help!!

  • Is this going to mean a repeat of hanging on the phone at 3am waiting for the one CSO to become available?

  • Any recommendations for a Forrester? We don’t drive much more than 10-15k per year

    • Someone on the bob Jane thread reckons the new Pirelli Scorpion MS is the go… It's meant to replace all the other scorpion versions.

Limited reviews from what I have found though.

  • Ouch, booked Bob Jane the other day, this one works out to be around $300 cheaper. Does anyone know if I can cancel Bob Jane and get a refund?

    • +4

Call them and say car has been written off/sold/etc They will refund you

    • Same tyres from Bob Jane is $300 more expensive? Which tyres?

      • Kumhi HP71 MyCar $252 each before 50% off. BJ $291 each before 40% off. Works out for 4x tyres to be approx $200 more. Sorry $80 I included by accident because BJ got a wheel alignment also.

        • What size is that Kumho HP71?

        • +2

Woah woah woah, hold on your horses. Where did Mycar ever say they have 50% discount on Kumho tyres? This sale only applies to Pirelli. LOL.

          • @edfoo: Ahh must be the fri sat hang over. Hang on I'm going to grab another coffee

  • +3

    From Wikipedia FYI…

"In 2015, China National Chemical Corp. Ltd. (ChemChina) took controlling interest of Pirelli; with the Chinese state-owned company agreeing to maintain the tyre company's ownership structure until 2023."

    • So what brand offers better bang for buck on sale now?

      • What are your current tyre size specs, what car are you driving, what mix of on/off road do you drive and do you prefer handling (response) or comfort (low noise)?

        • 2024 MG ZS Excite. Just after similar tyres to the original.

      • +1

        Consider Michelin brand.

If you can't find reviews then may be not worth the risk-> @ https://www.tyrereviews.com/

Wet & cold roads: must able to handle…plus other buying criteria.

215 50 R17: I think this is your 2024 MG ZS Excite, inspect your tyre-wall. Be flexible with similar spec with similar tyre-circumference, say 1-2km speed differences @ your main commute max. speed: give you more choice-> https://tiresize.com/speedometer-calibration/

  • Great, 50% off for all its tyres for the only brand that doesn't sell any in the size that fits my car.

    • Mind sharing the tyre size/specs?

      • 195/50 x 15

        • 205/45R15 might work depending on the vehicle.

          • @MS Paint: It might work. But guess what other size they don't sell any tires in. Yep, you guessed it.

            • +2

@GordonD: I guess 15" is old school these days.

              • @MS Paint: Mine's got 15x7 wheels. They put 16x7s on the next model. I thought maybe someone's got a set of 16X7s that they've upgraded to aftermarket wheels. The enthusiast forums say, no, don't upgrade to 16s, a 50 section tyre is already low profile enough for good handling, 16x7 wheels are heavier and make the ride worse, and tyres for them are more expensive. So, so much for everyone going to bigger (heavier) wheels and more expensive tyres.

              • @MS Paint: Don't ask what my Torana has (13") HA!

  • How long can you keep the tyres before you need to use it?

    • The general rule of thumb for tyres is 5 years from date of manufacture. By then, the compound has usually gone hard and the grip levels are significantly reduced. YMMV.

  • So what happens if you book a date and then your tyre choice isn't in stock on your chosen fitting date?

    • Clause "7……. are subject to booking availability and while stocks last."

Pretty standard clause with any sale, if it's not in-stock or OOS at X location, pretty sure you missed out. I highly doubt they would transfer the tyres from another store if they have it in stock.

      • I might go with the 35-40% discounts at Bob Jane. Better to get some discount than miss out all together.

  • Can you get 50 percent off the pirelli tyres without having them fitted? To save money later?

  • +1

amazing, i have been waiting on this for ages!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • +3

There's actually a 12 month replacement warranty on these too. I bought some Pirellis from the same deal 1 year ago and one of the tyres copped a puncture that was un-repairable. MyCar replaced it for free! I was so happy :)

    • +1

Same here, no complaints, saved the cost of a new tyre nearly $200.00

  • I got a set last year, they're a good quality tyre. Grippy with no squealing.

    • "no squealing"
      You're not trying hard enough
      .

  • Do these provide long milage? Looking for tyres that last. Current Dunlop tyres on my Mazda 6 are @ 130,000kms but they are no longer made.

    • +1

No they wont. Read my comment above

    • I think we've had 2 sets of Pirellis on our 2016 Mazda 6 in the last 65,000kms and am about to put on a third with this deal as they're getting close. I haven't been tracking it so not 100% sure that's accurate

    • +1

Current Dunlop tyres on my Mazda 6 are @ 130,000kms but they are no longer made.

130K KM's on one set of Dunlop SP Sports?

      That's impressive

      • +2

Unless it's up on blocks, I don't think those numbers are remotely possible. They've forgotten a change in the middle

        • No. My car is serviced 4 times a year at Mazda. Nothing has been forgotten. I’m due for a change now though within the next few thousand kms.

          • +1

@unity1: Conversely, I got 120k km out of my serenity+'s but only ~70k km out of the Pirelli Cinturato P6's I had fitted from the first team they ran this 50% off deal.

        • +2

I did 120,000km on my classic ozbargain special serenity+'s and 2009 camry. Largely highway driving and I was aquaplaning everytime the road was moist by the end.

          • @cathole:

I was aquaplaning everytime the road was moist by the end.

That's not aquaplaning. That's tyres that have gone hard with age.

            • @GordonD: No it's aquaplaning mate, they were bald and less than 4 years old.

  • I got them to price match with Tyre sales on one of the pirelli tyres yesterday. The price difference is about 40%. I doubt their 50% off will be better than this. Fingers crossed

  • Anyone know which Pirelli tyres are recommended for a corolla hatchback?

    • +2

I searched by plate# to find correct tyres, super easy

    • as test8888 stated, use the rego number finder to find your tyres. For my mazda, only 1 showed up.

    • I went for PIRELLI POWERGY 91V for my Corolla hatchback, coming from a set of Michies.

Although the Michies last longer but as we don't do a lot of driving we found they became very hard and over bumps etc it became bone shattering.

While I don't expect the Pirelli to last as long as the Michies, the ride on the Pirellis is much softer and I have noticed improved wet weather handling and better braking as I believe they are a softer compound tyre.

  • +2

Please beware these guys are rough as guts on Black Friday sale. Last year they didn't even bother balancing the tyres. Took a trip to Jervis Bay and the car was shaking like crazy over 100km/hr so I got them all balanced which they said they had no weights on them

    • -3

If you are replacing all four tyres, it is generally recommended to have them balanced and pay extra for wheel alignment at the same time as well.

      • +3

I've never had new tyres installed that didn't include balancing in the install cost. Shameful if they make you pay extra for it.

        • +2

Balancing is usually included in the price but wheel alignment is extra.

      • I did not pay for wheel balancing as it was included in the deal, I did pay for wheel alignment as you are wasting your money buying new tyres to then skimp on wheel alignment.

The bad reviews I am reading on here, I could not have gotten better service, so much so that I gave them a Google review, something I don't do lightly.

        I am in Adelaide.

        • Like I have said above, wheel balancing is usually included with new tyre, but wheel alignment is an extra charge.

  • Seems there's only 1 Pirella for my 2015 mazda CX3: PIRELLI POWERGY XL 99V, 215/60R16

Guess I am going with those :)

Question: I need my car for servicing, I am looking at the T&Cs and can't seem to find if we can book the tyre change AND a service at the same time. Clause 3 state "Offer Tyres must be booked on Friday 29 November 2024 and be fitted between Monday 6 January 2025 and Saturday 15 February 2025."

has anyone been able to do both logbook servicing and tyre change at the same time?
