How trustworthy is an AliExpress CPU?

    • +2

Based on the previous deals it's very trustworthy.

    • +5

Only as trustworthy as the seller. If you go for the reputable stores, 100% trustworthy

      • +2

Fortunately this is one of them.

      • +3

Bought over 20 cpus from them, all legit all still working very trustworthy seller

    • +29

I met Ali once. It was out the back of a shopping centre in a car park. He opened the boot of his car and showed me a few CPUs he had in there. I spat out my bubble tea when he told me how much they were compared to reputable retailers I'd purchased from in the past. There was something about Ali though. He seemed a bit shady so I never went through with his offer. I politely declined. That's when he gave me an express hit to the potatoes I was carrying in a sack.

    • +1

tried (and clearly failed) to link to an example of a cpu i bought from ali that turned out great, but yeah - i wouldn't stress so long as you go with a seller that's well reviewed and included in the choice system. cant hurt to pick from the sellers that are posted on ozb

    • +1

I got my 5700x3d from this seller. It’s real, didn’t come with original packaging only a few layers of bubble wrap. I recommend

      • +1

Would the CPUs still have warranty, or not? I am thinking of buying one, but not sure about how warranty would work if it's ever needed. I also wonder what would happen in the small chance it's DOA/faulty from the get go. Are the clamshells fully sealed, 100% new looking?

        • +1

It’s an OEM cpu, so it needs to be returned to the original seller for warranty and can’t be sent directly to AMD like retail CPUs. It’s a reputable seller though, so that should be doable.

The clamshell doesn’t have any kind of seal on it, but mine looked brand new. No hint of any thermal gunk or use. It’s unlikely they could get enough volume of used CPUs to run their store though, these are OEM cpus that have to be purchased in large volumes.

It’s your own risk/reward measurement, but these are real, new CPUs only the seller is buying OEM stock so it’s a lot cheaper. CPUs rarely have issues, particularly when the design is mature. And returning items through AE is an option, although you’ll be shipping it back overseas. It was worth the risk for me and paid off, especially once I sold my 3700x I wasn’t far out of pocket.

    • I got mine recently and confirming legit and working :)

    • I got one from own of these deals. Was great

    • I'm currently using a 5600x from one of the previous aliexpress ozb deals and it's working perfect, no issues.

    • Since Aliexpress is a marketplace, it depends somewhat on the store that you buy it from. I am typing this reply from the PC powered by the 5700X3D brought from the previous deal and I am pretty happy with it.

    • I purchased from this seller, and they never sent the CPU - I wouldn't trust them at all.

I then contacted them for help as they gave me a fake shipping number, and they just told me it was delivered and stopped replying.
They claimed I had signed for the package when I wasn't even in the same state on they day they claimed I signed for it. Surprise surprise they couldn't supply any proof of delivery nor my signature. Neighbours never saw a delivery attempt, nor did they sign for it.
I escalated and AliExpress told me to supply evidence of them not having delivered the product - the only evidence being false tracking number. They denied my request too saying I had provided no proof that the product wasn't delivered.
I had to escalate this to PayPal to get a refund, where the seller once again claimed they had delivered the product, yet couldn't supply any proof other than a fake tracking number.

TLDR buying CPUs from AliExpress can be fine, but I don't trust this seller as they tried to scam me.

  • I'm still confused by AliExpress deals for some reason. If I did decide to try and jump at this because I've never bought from there before is it true I'm forced to use some welcome code which means I can't use this code to get this price?

    • +2

Yes, just buy something cheap like $7 with the welcome code

      • Hmm yeah that's the obvious thing to do but does cut into the savings here a little. Thanks for confirming.

AMD quite literally launched "new" SKUs for AM4 less than a month ago.

They're not really new new - the Ryzen 5 5600XT (not to be confused with the Radeon RX 5600 XT) is just a 5600X with slightly higher rated clocks, while the 5600T is a 5600 also with higher rated clocks. But they're definitely still releasing products for AM4 and it's not going away any time soon.

As for whether the associated hardware will become outdated fast, that's probably debatable for most people. Aside from newer CPU and RAM support on more recent platforms, most of the associated hardware is just incremental improvements - faster USB, faster PCIe, faster Ethernet and Wi-Fi - all stuff that's probably largely non-essential to most if I were to guess.

These 5000X3D chips are best thought of as an upgrade for existing AM4 users rather than people building a new PC. I started with a Ryzen 7 1700 and have finished up on a Ryzen 7 5800X3D after a couple of CPU upgrades without changing my motherboard.

        • +2

Definitely not old stock, the chips are still being produced anyways, since no high-end devices are using TSMC N7 anymore, which makes it really cheap for AMD to continue using those nodes, and there are two new SKUs being offered, but yes, there are really no new drastically different SKUs really of note

        • +6

The chips are still being produced new-in-box, so they're inherently "new", not old stock. I don't see how that's an issue when it comes to the 5700X3D, or any of the chips really.

All of these chips have a known performance level and that's not going to magically change to make them outdated any more quickly than other CPUs.

      • I bought one as an upgrade for my sons 5600X / 3080 rig. Quite an uplift in some games.

I love the AM4 platform with how long it lasted

    • +1

There's nothing wrong with the socket if the motherboard still works

    • I recently bought my dad a 12600K. Best value he could have had for the money he was planning to spend. The 5700X3D has plenty of steam for a few years ahead of it and you would find it hard to get to comparable performanxe. And if you are not a High end gamer then by the time you plan to upgrade a CPU in your suposed AM5 it would also be at it's end of life stage and you would be missing the money you spent on that more expensive AM5 CPU.
This one is like the Celeron of P2/P3 days. Lot of performance for little money ( minus the huge overclocking margin)

  • +3

Bought one few weeks ago from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/874578, arrived around 10 days. Sold my 5600, clean the old thermal paste and put new thermal paste, 5700x3d run perfectly in default. Try curve optimiser negative 30 still run perfectly, my 5700x3d now running 10% cooler and save 20% energy. Any more good tips on this CPU?

    • +1

Bought some PTM7950 on AliExpress as well instead of thermal paste. It doesn't suffer from pump out so you shouldn't have thermal degradation and won't need to replace it unless you take your cooler off.

Used it on both my CPU and GPU. Don't have data on CPU temps but now my GPU temp and hotspot delta is only max 10° even after a few months.

      • Darn, I lost my reply, so I have to retype it all.

I just had a look at the PTM7950 (any particular seller you bought it from?) and it seems pretty cool. I'll have to read about how it works. Is the performance as good as a top tier thermal paste? I always hated cleaning off thermal paste, so this is really interesting. If you change the CPU or take out the CPU cooler for whatever reason, do you have to replace it?

        • +1

I bought from "Passionate girl store" as they had the most orders and were recommended on Reddit.

Initially, performance is slightly worse than your top tier pastes but after a few heat cycles it's around the same/slightly better. I haven't read fully into the materials science detail but from my understanding, this is because of the way the phase change material works.

I assume you would have to reapply if you remove your cooler - it's quite thin and not like a thermal pad. It's a bit annoying to apply though and recommend you keep it in the fridge for a bit before application and wear some gloves.

  • -5

I’d suggest getting a 7600x which is comparable to this $35 more on AliExpress and AM5 for those considering a new system, this would allow you to upgrade to a 9950x3d next year for example.

I tried to link it above 👆 but got unpublished

    • +6

AM5 and DDR5 cost much more than an AM4 DDR4 system though.

  • Missed out getting a gpu with the ebay stuff up because I was paralysed with weighing up the best bang die buck. May have to console myself by buying a cpu I don't need

    • What stuff up was this? A pricing error, or you just couldn't decide in time? What was the GPU?

      • Couldn't decide in time before the bfri30 code expired. My 6700 xt just kicked the bucket so was tossing up between a number of different new and used cards to try and extract the best value and came up empty handed

  • Would it be worth upgrading my 5600x with a gtx4080 playing on 1440p? I also use 32gb

    • Depends on the games, I upgraded from 5600 with 6800 GPU, only few CPU demanding games will need more CPU performance in 1440P. 5700x3d will only give you few fps if your 5600x already fully utilised your GPU, up to 20%-30% performance increases only if your 5600x holding your 4060 back in 1440P.
      https://youtu.be/jlUmf2oKqyw?si=TawZXuHdaZhFYBOb
he is using 4090 and benchmarks in 1080p mostly, just show you the CPU potential difference. You won’t get the difference with your 4060 in 1440P.
If you are thinking keep your PC for quite a few years, 5700x3d will give you around 7500f or 7600 gaming performance without new m/b and RAM. It’s pretty good and easy upgrade. I sold my 5600 for $100, should be easy $100 for your 5600x. Upgrade cost over just $112 for you, depends if you need to buy new thermal paste and wipe or not.
edit: I thought you got 4060, your 4080 definitely can use more CPU performance in 1440p, this will be the best $112 upgrade cost for your gaming PC.

    • You will know when you need a x3D chip. Otherwise, a regular 5600 works fine. You're playing in 1440p, only a few games will the CPU be the bottleneck, and they're usually eSports games running at 240fps already.

    • I bought one for exactly the same reason, with a 3080 based pc and 32GB (so reasonably close system) you go from to minor improvement to huge improvement depending on the game and resolution. For the price, IMO absolutely, for the normal cost, mabye.

  • Any good recommendations for a GPU upgrade with this? currently on 6600 XT

    • save up and jump up to x70 x700 class gpu once RTX 5000 series drops as other Gpu prices will drop soon within the next quarter

  • @Clear got any codes that work for NZ ppl?

    • try 24BF20

      • Already got that one, getting ~NZD288.39 delivered
        😭

  • -3

How to install this on my laptop?

    • +1

You can't for 99% of laptops

  • +2

Not sure where I went wrong, but got $220 myself

Now to list this 3600 on Marketplace..

  • How come it is showing $220.66 for me even after the discount codes are applied?

    • +1

You need to set your currency to USD and pay in USD for the better price. As outlined, it’s best to have a card with no international transaction fees

      • If you don't have a card with no international transaction fees, is it still cheaper to pay in USD instead of AUD?

        • It will depend on your bank. For example only: commbank charges 3.5%. So 212.2 x 1.035 =219.63. So you would save $0.37 over the $220 if you are with commbank

  • I have a fairly old PC with a Ryzen 5 2600 + RX 580. Worth upgrading or should I wait til I can afford a new pc?

    • +1

Get this deal. This is hands down the best value cpu money can buy.
I upgraded from the 3600, it has helped with so many games that I had thought had been gpu limited but it turns out the cpu was the bottleneck.
Going from the 2600 will be even better!

      • Im at 3600. Pinch me now to buy this lol

        • +1

I was the same as you with a 3600 and Just purchased - but need to check if you motherboard supports the new chip -I needed to do a bios upgrade

    • +4

      I would say it’s worth upgrading :)
Your platform still has lots of life in it to give !
5700x3d now, and little later on upgrade that rx580 you will be surprised how much more your pc can crush games and other tasks with.

Just confirm first that your motherboard and its bios version can run with a 5700x3d . Chances are you most likely have to update the bios (fairly straight forward process, plenty of guides online)

      • I have a Ryzen 5 1600X, B350 Tomahawk m/b. According to MSI compatibility website, it's supported. Don't game anymore, the most intensive thing I'm doing is photo editing (Lightroom, Topaz, and some Photoshop). Would this be worth the upgrade? Also have a GTX 1070 Gaming X OC 8GB, 16GB RAM

        • This is gaming CPU, for rendering, photo editing ect… there are probably better CPU at similar price range.

        • +1

The 3D CPUs have lower maximum clockspeeds compared to the non 3D variants, but the performance is so similar that it doesn't really matter.

Getting a 12 or 16 core CPU is significantly more expensive, and a non 3D 8 core CPU isn't much cheaper (if at all), I don't think you will regret this purchase. Unless you want to spend more for a 5900x or 5950x, this is a good buy.

Look here for a detailed explanation comparing the 5800x3d with it's non 3D variant, you can see the 3D variant is actually better for photoshop and lightroom, even though it's a "gaming" CPU.
          https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/amd-ryzen-5800x3d…

    • +2

No brainer upgrade, even if it's only for a while while you get something new. Just remember to update the BIOS before you drop the new chip in.

That being said, you probably need a new GPU as well to see actual gaming benefits, but productivity improvements will be apparent immediately. 580 had great legs but she's done.

    • -1

got the exact build and upgraded mine. games do feel a little smoother but i personally cant feel mich difference because i only play cs2 or dota and i feel like anything else is being bottlenecked by gpu. but fusion do feel faster. i hv no clue if theres actual performance increase or just placebo effect.

    • Worth it, huge improvment for CPU and the cost isnt that large

  • +1

Any good deals on am4 motherboard to go with this?
My one is getting very old with limited ports too

    • +1

if ur getting an am4 just for this i would recommend just going am5 for future upgradibility. otherwise just get a b450 from the second hand market. buy swap sell groups have plenty of these.

  • Thinking of getting this but i haven't updated my b450 mobo bios since 2022. Can I go to the latest bios or would that break mobo?

    • +3

I did a b450 yesterday from 2018 to the latest, no issue.

  • Is there any similar deal to pair with a Motherboard for this?

    • +1

These CPUs don't use much power so these boards will probably be good enough https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/126177300159

    • +3

Just saying, if you need to buy new m/b and new RAM, 7500f in AM5 from AliExpress might be better. You may drop in 9700x3d in few years time for cheap. This gaming CPU is great for the people who already got AM4 m/b and DDR4 RAM.
7500f and 5700x3d have similar avg FPS in gaming.

      • You can buy 7500f, get the cheap Jginyue motherboard on Aliexpress for better discount. With current cheap RAM deals on OZB, you can get future proof system around $400.

HUB did a review on this mobo recently and Steve mentioned good performance with high end chip too.

  • Hi, just a noob question, what thermal paste should I buy to use with this (my first time replacing cpu), currently using r5 5600

    • *for playing cs2 only, not anything crazy OC

      • arctic is fine. ask around from friends who build pcs or recently built one if they have any leftovers. a single tube can usually last for 4 builds, so if u know anyone who recently built a pc very likely they have leftovers and wont mind giving it to u because they won't have a need for it until 4-5 years later

    • I just bought something cheap in Amazon, something AM4 or MA4.

  • tempted to make a sub 1.5k build with this and 4070

  • Thank you for posting, bought one and will pair with either 7900 GRE which I'm waiting to drop price even more.

  • +1

I don't know whether to get this and upgrade my current 3600 and 2060S or go fresh and just get one of techfast 4070 & 7800X3D prebuilt for $2k….

    • +3

The techfast pre-builds use components from the cheap end of the spectrum. I'd get the 5700X3D now in the hope it gives you a nice boost in FPS to tide you over until the new year when the 50 series is released (sometime Q1) and pushes down prices of the 40 series.

    • +1

If you already has decent m/b and 32gb DDR4 RAM, i will say 5700x3d will match nicely upto 4070ti s or even 4080 (7900xtx) in 1440p. You probably can skip whole AM5 as it may last you few more years (5700x3d will match 7500f/7600 avg fps).

  • Can anyone recommend a motherboard from Aliexpress to suit?

    • +2

This CPU requires an older motherboard that's not made these days. If you need a whole new system, you'll want an AM5 motherboard and a different CPU.

      • Not fussed about AM5, mainly looking to get amid range CPU that has an iGPU (that I'm also keen for recommendations on!) which I realise this one doesn't have

        • If you want to game and save money I wouls still get a cheap video card vs an igpu - pickup a used one if needed, there are tons out there.

This CPU is more than satisfactory for current games as reasonable settings, but a igpu almost certainly wont be.

      • +1

Buying this CPU and a motherboard from aliexpress are a really cheap option.

There are tons of new AM4 motherboards, a lot of them under $100.

For a cheap pc, this cpu and an AM4 Motherboard are a decent option.

        • Any tips on a decent am4 mobo (from AliExpress or not)?

          • @destroyer661: sorry, not really - I dont think there is much of a difference, just make sure theres the features you need.

Id probably personally get MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX AMD M-ATX.

  • +1

Seems like a great deal, but man I haven't gamed for almost a year, and it's a pain to do anything to my sff system😂

  • Recently got a 4080super, wondering if this would be worth upgrading to from a 5800X. Looks like from the comparisons worth it especially for this price?

    • yes, unless at 4k the 5800x is hard bottlenecking a 4080.

  • Brilliant timing! Was thinking of doing a full upgrade but this will be soo much cheaper. Going from 3600x to this, now i just need to upgrade the rtx2070 to either 4080 or 4090. Can anyone recommend a good power supply i can pick up in the sales?

    • +1

Use the cultist tier list. https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/ to see whats well rated.
I bought a Superflower vii gold 850w for about 220 and its been great.
For a 4080 etc, look into power draw spikes.
I bought a 850w to cover for those.
Also i prefered the GPU cables on the superflower and some Corsair models, that utilise 2 x 8 pin on the PSU side (said to be a bit less prone to wear and tear).

  • -2

Video: Is a 5700X3D Upgrade Really Worth It?. May be interesting to some considering this question. However, he also upgrades the GPU at the same time so his benchmarking doesn't show the boost from the CPU upgrade in isolation.

  • Do I upgrade my 5700X that I bought for like $300 2 years ago? Or wait for the price to go down more?
