  • Thanks OP grabbed 2, lets see how it goes.

    Any owners recommend a case?

    • +3

I just scoured aliexpress and taobao, there's like a grand total of… 5 cases for this.

Be careful though, in China this is the Lenovo/Motorola S50 (just S50). They have a separate Lenovo/Motorola S50 Neo, which is NOT this phone. On aliexpress you'd probably have to triple confirm with the seller since some of them have both names.

    • +2

These guys have a few options for cases

      https://www.gadgets4geeks.com.au/epages/shop.mobile/en_AU/?O…

Not affiliated, have never heard of them before just found it on Google

    • It comes with a case in the box.

  • What does the CPU compare to in a snapdragon?

    • +2

This would be equal plus or minus 5 percent too a snapdragon 7 gen 3.

For 99.999 use case it's fine.

The phone only has real issues with photos, but that's software issue not hardware

Honestly at this price there isn't a better phone on the market, not even close

      • Dimensity 7300 is equivalent to the SD 7s Gen 2 performance not SD 7 Gen 3 which is found in the Motorola Edge 50 Pro.

  • This or moto G75 or edge 50 pro ?

    • Yeah I'm tossing up between those and also the G85 and the standard 50

      • I have G50 and g85 both good but in g85 you can't reduce screen light at night.

Also good to buy something that comes with longer duration of upgrades for security.

    • Hard thing is I need regional reception, otherwise the 50 neo would be a slam dunk. Qualcomm is almost necessary where I am for a good time.

  • +1

FFS…ordered yesterday, got the phone today and already 50 dollars cheaper!?

Anyone has had experience with CommBank Awards Ultimate price protection? Is it likely / possible in this scenario?

    • *sigh…

      What is covered?
This cover refunds the cardholder the difference in price if,
within 21 days of the purchase, they advise us that they have,
subsequent to their purchase, received a printed or emailed
catalogue showing the same business items or personal goods
for a lower price in a store within 25 kilometres of the store that
the business items or personal goods were purchased, and the
price difference is greater than $75.

      • I see you got there yourself already but yeh, CBA price protection is junk.

There is 90 days Purchase Security if you were to lose your phone somehow though (with $100 excess)

  • +5

Now that we can't import phones with 3.5mm + sd card + wireless charging, for my personal use case I see no reason to pay 2-4x more for Galaxy series over this deal.

    • Why cant we import phones? If this one had an sd card, Id get it.

      • +2

telcos blanket blacklisted vast majority of imports. you won't be able to call or get mobile data.

  • +1

What's mobileciti's return policy like? Mine just turned up from the $397 deal still in packaging, then is it worth the hassle for $47?

    • +2

      I opened mine :(

Maybe buy one and return to my order.

      • +3

$10.80 return fee plus postage which will be about $17 with tracking… Cant be bothered…

        • Yeah.

      • But they may track the IMEI number.

        • yeah they do. I found the phone serial on the packing slip.

  • Code not working?

    • Do you have eBay plus?

      • Ah no I don't. Damn, not bought anything on ebay for over 12 months! Thanks.

  • Seems this Motorola Edge 50 phone had an issue with Camera laggy. Did people hear about that?

  • +2

What are people's thoughts on this motorola vs the nothing phone 2a?

I am coming from an iphone8 and would love to escape the apple ecosystem. But also want a better phone than what i have (and larger screen). So many options with android, but don't know how they compare (beyond flagships). Other option is to stay with apple and get a iphone 12 refurb. Budget is upto $500ish.

    • I'd be keen to hear this too if anyone knows please.

    • Just watch gsmarena review of both. Then consider the Motorola at half the price.

    • I'd say it almost guaranteed that this moto will be the best you can get for the money in Australia. Reviews and mostly positive and generally impressed with the phone and value prospect. That's at $699. It's half that now. It's almost a no brainer.

    • I would go the Motorola. They are a value for money phone provider not a tier 1 phone provider. For under 400 you are getting alot of phone.

I have found that a 3rd party camera app is better than the stock app but maybe with android 15 things will be better.

  • any recommendation for screen protector of this phone?

    • If fast…Amazon. if can wait (I found an old iPhone 13 one to tie me over) from AliExpress.

  • +8

Guys thought I would share my thoughts on this phone and deal.

In short. If you are thinking. Just buy it.

Bang for buck rating is off the charts. For context I am on a Poco F5 SD7+Gen2 SOC, 5000mah battery etc.

Using it today I am super impressed. No noticeable slow down at all when using it, yeah MediaTek is up to scratch now. Battery I guess it's still new but it's only dropped 15% compared to my F2 (9 months old) battery dropping faster.

The form factor is lovely, I am getting sick of 6.7+ inch phone the last couple of years, while this is not 6.2 it strikes a good balance of smaller but not too small. Its noticeably lighter as well. And yes. I consume a lot of media on my daily driver.

Love the UI and all the extra Moto software. So much nicer an experience than Poco.

You get the charger included in the box. Period.

Love the gold (Latte) colour and the back is not slippery like most other phones. Any questions ask and I am happy to give feedback.

If I had to complain…the finger print scanner is placed low on the display, but it's not a deal breaker as I use pattern and face unlock mostly and a preference thing.

    • +1

      Thanks friend, this helps.

      I am coming from a Poco X3 and a Poco F2 Pro.

TBH the Poco X3 is working pretty much perfectly, just lacks a decent camera. Not really expecting a better camera for this price.

Looking forward to a bit smaller and lighter weight, battery was a bit concerning, and the camera, but a cheap side-grade and at least a bit more 3G shutdown-proof. Dont love the idea of the screen based finger print scanner. I am used to the side one on the Poco X3.

      Does it need a case?
Did it come with a screen protector, or does it need one?

My friends are saying I should've waiting for a Pixel 9 deal, which I may still consider if theres a good deal. But like you said, bang for buck is off the chart, and I was contemplating a lot, at this price, its just a good buy I think.

Realistically we don't need such advanced phones, and this is solidly respectable for the price.

Great point about the charger, glad to hear it comes with it, all these imports the chargers are foreign and never feel very safe using sketchy adapters.

      • Looks like these are cases they come with(motorolaimgrepo.vtexassets.com) but don't think a screen protector is fitted.

The new thing some are trying on is to not include any charger at all, just a cable.

      • No screen protector, butngorilla glass 3 should survive till you get the order to arrive from AliExpress. Case included and deal with the same way thru AliExpress. I want a new case the included one is top and bottom, sides are open and hard plastic so not the most good feeling case.

I didn't see a USB c to 3.5mm jack. Will test out my own adaptor dongle today.

        • What wattage is the included charger? I just noticed the fine print "Requires a Motorola TurboPower™ 68 W Charger; sold separately."

            • @hippo2s: Oh ok.. thats confusing then :D

            • @hippo2s: I guess the info on motorola.com.au is copy pasted from another region where they shipped with a cable only. Having actually got my hands on one now I see even the case is different to what's shown on the site.

I've seen some cases with the magsafe ring built in, new to wireless charging but figure that might be useful if I end up getting a matching charger/holder for the car.

              • @bamzero: Yeah in any case there are no android phones with magnetic ring built into the back so you will have to find a case with that.

I just use an old school clamp in car.

    • Thanks for this! I know in one of the reviews by Ray Shaw he mentions poor reception for regional/rural. Have you had any experience of this?

      • @JohnnyO, Ray Shaw's suggestion is puzzling to me. We live in a rural regional area and for sure many blackspots for all phones when towers are tens of kilometres apart. Then when I drive to Brisbane I also find blackspots for mobile phone reception and I have had numerous phones of different makes. What I want to know is how phone's are for calls and reception everywhere and for some reason professional reviews forget that telephony is the main function for a mobile phone, smart or otherwise.

        • My opinion is if the reception is bad…that's is the telcos and their network's fault. Not enough towers to provide good coverage. Why is it a handset's problem?

I don't blame my car for having bad suspension when the council isn't maintaining the road and has portholes everywhere. Gee… My car is the problem?

    • Having fully migrated over now (lost my message history in Line, damn it) to this phone and pretty much all my apps I have only come across one app that exhibits slowness.

      Westpac Banking App.

It figures. Pretty sure it's an app issue. All other bank apps works fine (no slowdown) Commbank, NAB, ING.

      • Try disabling Moto Secure settings - specifically the Network Protection and Protect from online scammers.
This fixed my issue recovering Microsoft Authenticator app from backup.

Not suggesting to keep them disabled - just for testing purposes - and its likely you could re-enable some of the settings.

        • I accidentally enabled that, and the toast popups for "this app is secure" and whatnot kept annoying me.

Only way I could find to disable was to clear storage for Moto Secure.

Lived without it previously, think I can live without it now

  • Thanks OP! Got myself one. I think I extended my Realme 6's ownership long enough. Here I come 5G, wireless charging and esim!

    • +1

Make sure your mobile plan has 5G!

  • Curved screen on this model? Some Motorola units lately been seeing negative comments re this feature….

    • +1

      all flat on this

  • +1 for the spec, price and OS updates.

The screen size reminds me of my previous Realme 7 Pro with 4500 mAh. I prefer bigger battery over slim body. They think about less weight for this phone.

At this price point, the camera is better with telephoto and ultrawide lens. Even my OnePlus Nord CE3 Lite 5G (more expensive when I bought) doesn't have this …

  • How is this phone compare to Samsung a35?

    • Compare both on gsmarena website.

    • I only have in the shop experience with A54 and A55. I would prefer this one. Size, weight just feels better but I am smaller in build so prefer smaller phone. Feature and software experience…this.

Avoid the models with Xynos chip.

I would only get Samsung if I was already invested in their ecosystem.

      • Thanks mate

    • I'm leaning slightly towards the A35 over the Neo. Mostly because I have an old Galaxy A20 phone and Samsung Galaxy Watch; transitioning to another Samsung should be a smoother with the familiar UI and features. Just waiting for a price drop hopefully.

I think the A35 may also have faster USB-C transfers (UFS3.1 vs UFS2.2 on the Neo) and possibly better real-world camera results (a few reviews on the Neo seem to suggest it has some teething issues). Both of these are important to me.

Aside from that, the specs and price of this Neo look great, especially if you need eSim.

      • Thanks mate

  • Grab one, thanks.
For this I just started my 30 free trial for ebay plus.

  • Grabbed one. Gold sold out. Only left grey and red.

  • Thanks OP, got me red…. Hopefully it’ll go faster 😂

  • Hmmm this or the G84 now sub $300 at JB… https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/moto-g84-5g-256gb-midnigh…

    • Depends if this having more security updates, better peak brightness, wireless charging,a slightly better processor, plus a few other small difference are worth the $50ish difference in price to you.

      • Which chipset is better this or the g84? Sorry not up with that side of things. Not fussed with cameras. Tend to like having headphone jack and dual sim.

  • +4

Amazon also $348 and 10% off gift card

  • +1

    Also on Harvey Norman

  • Hey guys, how does this compare to the poco f3?

    • Only you can answer that for yourself.

I am switching over from a Poco F5, of that helps.

  • Avoid if you want any kind of after-sales support.

  • +1
  • Jb hi fi $348 now, price dropped

    • +1

OW price matching at 330. Damm if i waited few more hours would have saved 20 :(

Is this the same thing? couple bucks cheaper?

    • Yes. Everyone has since price matched Mobileciti after. At the time of posting this deal was cheapest.

  • nice, with various coupons and discounted giftcards was able to get it down to $319. wish the 10% off ultimate gift cards were still available at Big W

    • +1

      This guy bargains.

  • $400 the site and code PLUS120 DOESNT WORK

  • How long do they take to ship these out ?

    • Mine was posted next day, express posted so arrived 2 days after I placed order. I am only about 15km away from their store tho.

      • Thanks mate. Mine got posted today. Hopefully by next Monday i receive it.

        • I'd imagine you should get it before then with Auspost doing weekend deliveries now for the Christmas period.

Unfortunately no express post upgrade from eBay Plus for us in WA. Would have taken a week and a half to arrive so ended up requesting cancellation and buying another from JB yesterday. Itchy fingers waiting to open the JB one until I heard back from Mobiciti whether they'd cancel (they did this morning)

Goes to show how pointless eBay Plus is in WA :/

          • @bamzero: Oh man didnt know you can cancel it. I am in perth too.

            • @snirodha: You can request it but it's at the sellers discretion. Under More Actions for the item in your purchase history.

              • @bamzero: Got mine today. How you get yours soon.

                • @snirodha: Got one from JB and the good folk at Mobilciti cancelled my order remember ;)

  • +1

I guess the only cons are the smallish battery and Gorilla Glass 3.
But 5 Android and security updates is massive. Also the specs/$ is off the charts
If I wasn't a clumsy person who drops his phone once a day I would probably go for it

    • It has Gorilla Glass 3 for the screen, plastic frame, plastic back or silicone polymer (eco leather) back.

      IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 min)
      MIL-STD-810H compliant
      * does not guarantee ruggedness or use in extreme conditions

According to other comment, this comes with a phone case. So, you just need to get a screen protector applied on top of the Gorrila Glass screen. That's it.

      • The screen protector would help with scratches, but not really much against shattering. My poco F3 has gg5 and I still managed to crack the screen with screen protector.

I can only imagine that the gg3 would last a week in my hands

        • +1

Last time only 1 diagonal crack on my Moto G5 Plus with gg3, not shattered.

  • JB hi-fi at Pacific Fair, even the price marked was $396, I bought it for $348
    Super deal!!!

  • So I got one of these and it's great but it's not making or receiving calls.
I'm wondering if I'm doing something stupid?
I'm on Amaysim's 4G coverage, mobile data works fine, text messages are ok, but no phone calls.
    Any ideas anyone??
    Thanks

    • Do you see VoLTE 4G text next to the network signal indicator?
