Sold out in 3 brisbane stores

  • +1

Found two in the corner behind other GCs, someone must have hidden them, sorry not sorry.

  • None at pacific fair or Oasis shopping centre on Gold Coast.

    • +2

      Heaps at Hope Island

      • ah yes, rich area woolies locals wouldn't bother with gift card deals sounds good to me!

  • None at eastland. didnt stop them promoting it with, I counted 4, large posters. I politely suggested they remove the signage if they have no stock otherwise there will be lots more upset people to deal with

    • +3

I always find it so bizarre how hard they go with promoting these gift card deals, always heaps of physical promo display material. For what, a measly %cut on a gift card most stores don't even get enough stock of during the promotional period anyway?

      • If they can't supply it then they don't 'lose' money. Plausible deniability: oh, sorry, very popular deal, all sold out.

    • Thanks for saving me a trip!

  • -1

Anyone tried to buy more than 2 for the variable ones?

    • Who would risk it, Mate ? Just buy another 2 tomorrow

      • -1

Yeh, by then they may all disappear.

          • +1

@yht: Anyone who steals gift cards (yeah, it's theft, you don't own them until you pay for them just like all other supermarket items) to save $17 has bad risk/reward judgement.

If anyone really is thinking about this (and you shouldn't be) consider the additional scrutiny that comes from idiots tampering with these cards recently.

  • -2

I didn't realise the discount on these are worse than the coles 100 ones from last week and can't even find any stock.

  • +1

None at the 2 Neutral Bay stores … usually have heaps but seem all goneski, ….

Staff have nfi - couldnt tell me if they received them, or if they'll get more

  • Dropped in a store today, lots of $50 and $100 but no variable load available.

  • +3

We need to make a collective complaint to the ACCC.
Advertising them and not having them is bringing you into the store to do your shopping, unfairly taking business away from their competitors.
Form is here…takes one minute…might see some change if enough people complain.

    • Done. Went to (not one) five stores this morning between 0700 and 0830 AM (I have huge outstanding Council and Tax payments). No stock of variable card anywhere

just went a store in sydney (within 10km of cbd) restocking 20+ variable cards around 10am this morning. happy hunting :)

Buyer beware. These cards have awful reviews.

    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/vanilla-visa-gift-…

I just tried paying a bill at Auspost with one and it asks for a PIN, none provided so you have to go to the website and set one up. Then got Declined - CODE 58 when I entered the new PIN. Not sure where I'll be able to use it.

    • Never tried using this at AusPost but can't you just hit enter when asked for PIN?

    • +2

Is your gripe with Vanilla Visa gift cards or Vanilla Mastercard gift cards? The deal you have downvoted is for Vanilla Mastercard gift cards, but you have linked to the Product Review page for Vanilla Visa gift cards.

Vanilla Visa gift cards and Vanilla Mastercard gift cards are two separate product lines that work differently and managed separately, so it is very important to get the distinction right. For example:

      • Vanilla Visa gift cards do not support PIN verification. If you attempt PIN verification anyway (e.g. by choosing a four-digit number on the PIN prompt screen on the EFTPOS terminal), the transaction will be declined. The only supported verification method for in-person transactions is signature verification, and the previous commenter was correct in saying that if you get asked for a PIN, simply press Enter without entering any numbers.

      • Vanilla Mastercard gift cards support PIN verification. You can set a PIN by choosing a four-digit PIN the first time you see the PIN prompt screen on the EFTPOS terminal for that gift card. You can also go to the balance check website to set a PIN if you prefer.

Having said that, InComm (the gift card scheme owner) started blocking transactions at Australia Post around July 2024 on Vanilla Mastercard gift cards, so the whole PIN situation probably would not have mattered anyway.

      • Ah shoot! I was just trying to find a way to pay my council rates as their payment system (Payble) seems to decline my Vanilla MC. Didn't know AusPost is a no go either.

        • I am actually not sure why Australia Post is blocked on Coles / Vanilla Mastercard gift cards.

Well, it was blocked when I tried to pay my rego in July in-person at Australia Post (and I got error code 12 - Invalid Transaction), even though I made sure to select Credit and enter the correct PIN. I did the same thing at David Jones about 15 minutes later and had no issues, which is why I think Australia Post is blocked. These people also ran into the same issue in August.

This person also recently reported Coles / Vanilla Mastercard gift cards not working on Post Billpay online as well.

You could always give it a shot and let us know how you go, because you never know, InComm may have removed these restrictions since these reports.

      • +1

I just paid my ctp in auspost no issue at all. Credit => prompt PIN => skip by pressing enter => done

Plenty in store for me. Very regional though.
The last deal they done there wasn't any….

  • +2

    Plenty in Carindale QLD today.
None on the shelf, but I asked the service desk and they opened up the cabinet and had plenty.
Nice earner today with me and my wife's EDR:
    4 x $500 = 10,000 Qantas points + 2000 Velocity points on Amex CC.
    Will use to pay ATO.

  • Hi all,

Just a quick question - is there a delay in the everyday reward points or does it get loaded straight away?

Seemed to have only received half.

    • +2

All the purchases I have made of the variable load denomination during this deal had the Everyday Rewards points loaded onto my account immediately after finalising the purchase.

Did you exceed the daily purchase limits for this deal or purchase the wrong gift card?

      • I bought the variable one and only 4 of them. It was all in the same transaction, does that make a difference?

        • +3

You exceeded the daily purchase limit. As per the offer terms and conditions in the deal description:

Unless specified, a limit 5 cards per day per Rewards member. For Mastercard Variable $25-$500 cards where you choose the amount to load, a limit of 2 cards per day per Rewards member.

          • @WookieMonster: Ah i see.. my bad - tough pill to swallow bjt learnt my lesson and need to read properly!

            Cant refund it either.

            • +2

@ScottMiranda: If you contact Everyday Rewards via phone or live chat, they might be nice enough to credit some or all of the missing points as a goodwill gesture.

  • Look around several Woolworths but can’t find any in the inner west Sydney, if anybody knows where some are please let me know:)

  • +1

Shelves stocked today in SA…. Think just late arrivals.

Will try hit $1k a day until deal over

  • EDIT: too early and haven't had my coffee!

since your not actually spending that money at woolies your only missing out on the extra % on the $25 that's put against your account so $1.25 if you purchased a gift card at 5% off you would miss out on $1.25 against that $25 buy have saved $17.05
still a poor deal - I've been waiting for the coles digital ones to come about again. at least they were about 6.8%?

after crunching the numbers im struggling to see a benefit….

    spend $500 - net $17.05 better off = 3.4%
but its locked in as woolies points so even though you spend it anywhere the discount is held by woolies. so that $17.05 isn't really a discount on anything.
it comes off your next shop. hence only giving a 3.4% discount on your woolies shopping. where 4% off is normal and you can currently buy woolies giftcards for 5.83% off with this deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/878181

I guess if you have it set for Qantas points it may be more beneficial?

    • +1

I only got it for qantas points. $7.95 for 2,500 points is reasonable.

      • Then use them on the Qantas store to get more points buying Wish giftcard that you can put back to buy woolies food.

        • is it better to do that than spend on back on woolworths? I thought the best way was to use them as woolworths dollars. we rarely fly so only end up purchasing stuff from the qantas store.

          • @B-Man02: So the best use normally is for points from Woolworths rewards to Qantas. Then use the Gift Cards in the Qantas shop to buy Wish Gift Cards where you get more Qantas points and have the money loaded like cash on the Rewards wallet. If you don't fly then I am not sure maybe qantas points are more valuable than rewards points to purchase stuff. Sorry I don't know.

    • +3

      The benefits are
      1. 3.4% discount to my ATO payment or other bills. I can convert to QFF points or WOW dollar. Paying Tax with free groceries or QFF points
      2. Earn credit card points especially Amex 3 points/$ for supermarket spendings
      3. Up to 55 days interest free by paying with Amex - increased my cash flow
      4. Churn and Burn for NEW credit card spending limit to earn more points
      5. I can BPAY/Sniip to my super account with discount of 3.4%

I am sure @WookieMonster can add more benefits

      • Same here, agreed not a great discount % wise but bought for ATO payment and new CC spend for points.

      • don't currently have a credit card with points so yes another side bonus if getting a higher rate of points at the supermarket.

have purchased for my ato payments…. I wonder what they think of the amount of people paying $499 multiples times.

  • +1

Didn’t have trouble with the limit of 2 per card
Bought 3. Only got points for 2.
Called everyday rewards 1300 101 234 and received bonus 2000 for ‘my troubles’

  • -1

went to my local WWS and no variable…I am in WA.

  • +2

Looks like WW has come through. Went to my local in Camberwell, plenty of cards, this is midday

  • -1

can any one confirm if category choice grocery gift card is working in WWS buying these Master Gift Card?

  • Surprisingly found some at my local today. Can anyone pls confirm if these can be added to PayPal pls??

    • yes

      • Thanks

  • Not the best deal for these cards but I will take it. Bought 2 x $500 for my rego payment ($906) next month.

    • Can you do split payments for rego?

      • Vicroads centres accept split payments, 3 cards maximum.
Haven’t tried sniip with those cards but it might work as well.

  • I have bought 1 to test it out, I am planning to use to pay childcare fees with it, like standard eftpost (insert card, pin etc)…how can I enable PIN on this? Still thinking what else can i used these for, no ATO payment due possible council rates but that much it….

    • To use this card in-person:

      • Swipe (not insert) the card on the EFTPOS terminal.

      • If the EFTPOS terminal asks you to choose between Savings, Cheque or Credit, choose Credit.

      • If you are asked for a PIN (and you have not already set a PIN), enter any four-digit number and press Enter.

You can also (re)set a PIN on the balance check website, but I find it less hassle to set a PIN for the first time at the EFTPOS terminal.

      • thanks @WookieMonster. Quick questions…

        a. if I select "credit" when i pay at eftpos terminal, I assume then whatever the surcharges are will be applied. also if that works, does that mean I can pay pretty much everywhere like coles, woolies, Aldi etc…Or is it more complicated?

        b. I have not set the PIN yet, if I don't go to website to set PIN. are you saying any 4 digit that i type in when using it 1st time becomes my PIN?

        • +1

if I select "credit" when i pay at eftpos terminal, I assume then whatever the surcharges are will be applied.

Yes, you will need to pay the surcharge applicable to Mastercard payments.

As a side note, some businesses charge different surcharges for Mastercard credit and Mastercard debit payments, and I have no idea what the surcharge would be in that situation, because this is a Mastercard prepaid card. For example, the ATO surcharges this gift card as Mastercard debit, but my local independent car mechanic surcharges this gift card as Mastercard credit. I have seen a couple of businesses specifically list the surcharge for Mastercard prepaid, but that is very unusual to see.

also if that works, does that mean I can pay pretty much everywhere like coles, woolies, Aldi etc…Or is it more complicated?

It means you can use it as a payment method nearly anywhere Mastercard prepaid, as long as the merchant chooses to accept it as a payment method. For example:

          • You can use this gift card in-store at Coles, but if you are purchasing a gift card and the checkout person spots you wanting to use a “gift card” as a payment method and wants to stop you, they can. (Coles prints in their catalogue deal terms and conditions that you cannot use a gift card to purchase another gift card, but this is usually up to staff to enforce.)

          • You can use this gift card at ALDI, but it will attract the 0.5% surcharge.

          • You cannot use this gift card as a new payment method on the Everyday Rewards app, because the Everyday Rewards app requires all new payment methods support 3-D Secure (which is something all prepaid gift card are unable to support).

          • You cannot use this gift card on the Cashrewards gift card platform, because that platform blocks all prepaid cards as payment methods (even prepaid cards that support 3-D Secure).

I have not set the PIN yet, if I don't go to website to set PIN. are you saying any 4 digit that i type in when using it 1st time becomes my PIN?

          Yes.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks @WookieMonster as always a detailed response. This will be interesting, currently when I pay childcare fees at my local using NAB visa credit card ( I only tap though, no PIN), there is no surcharge. Going by that, I am hoping using this to pay through swipe, select credit & PIN should be same. I have some TCN GC to buy from coles so we'll try my luck at self checkout. Good thing is for any residual amount I can add this to Paypal and but WISH gift cards. 3% is not much but whatever it helps i guess….

          • +1

@WookieMonster: @WookieMonster, I can confirm swiping and selecting credit work to pay childcare fees at local. As you said, it asked me to set pin or bypass there. No surcharge as that's how it works with other CC too. I will buy 1 more and try my luck paying swimming fees tomorrow.

      • You don't need a pin. Can just press enter when it asks

Heaps available at WW Lilydale this morning for those still looking.

  • surprised to find my local store has a few (re-)stock today.

bad news SB-FF card seems blocked though I used in Coles last week fine.

    • I could be wrong but I think WW have blocked the use of category gift cards to buy gift cards in store for some time now. Coles you still can.

        • +1

The ShopBack Fast Food card is a category card.

          • @wavesgreen: gotcha it's basically Category Choice.
interestingly I could use it in bigw.

      • Just saw the commentary now, wonder if FF card still works at Coles to buy gc?

  • My store has been out for 2 days. Was enough there for us to get 2k every day. 10 were there saturday none on Sunday.

  • +1

Looks like Gasworks Brisbane restocked recently - plenty of the variables on the shelves, so might be worth checking your local again if you were still chasing some.
