Ah 💩, here we go again!

    • +2

kinda sucks because we need deal with tampering and stock issues

      • +1

When I bought two today, a Woolies staff member actually opened the gift cards to check for tampering. She wasn't going to sell me the gift cards before checking.

On one hand I think it's great initiative and good due diligence, on the other hand the gift card wouldn't look like great if I was going to give it to someone as a gift.

        • If it was for personal use

You should open them in front and then buy so that they can't see the numbers but you can

They can't bust it open first

  • Can you pay ATO bill with this ?

    • It worked when I made an ATO payment a week ago. I have no idea if it still works now though.

      • Isn't there a surcharge for paying ato bills via Mastercard?

        • +2

Yep, ATO categorised my Vanilla Mastercard gift card as Mastercard - Domestic Debit, so I had to pay a 0.2% surcharge.

          • @WookieMonster: Nice $1 per 500, how does one use multiples.. one payment per card i guess yeah?

            • +4

@BilboBargains: You can do part payments if required.

For example, if you need to pay $1200.60 to the ATO, when you make a payment via myGov or Government EasyPay, you can choose the exact amount you want to send to the ATO. That means if you bought 3x $500 gift cards through this deal (good luck):

              • Payment 1 would be $499 (+ $1 surcharge)
              • Payment 2 would be $499 (+ $1 surcharge)
              • Payment 3 would be $202.60 (+ $0.41 surcharge)

You should be able to make up to five payments via myGov and up to five payments via Government EasyPay every 12 hours.

              • +1

@WookieMonster: I have been making 10 payments to myGov consistently for the last week.

                • @Yola: What equivalent dollar value returns are people generating by paying ATO bills with rewards earning cards?

              • @WookieMonster: Aaah shit, I bought 3 cards on the same day and realized you can only get points for 2 cards per day. Lol

        • +3

Debit mastercard is the smallest fee 0.2%. Still worth it for the airline points and the woolies dollars.

      • +1

Made an ATO payment today no issues.

  • +5

But will there actually be any variable load cards available?

    • +2

Given the last few rounds…. I somehow doubt it.

    • +1

Not if store managers have anything to do with it

      • +3

There's a certain demographic that doesn't like seeing people of other demographics getting free money.

        • ?

          • @rokufan: Some managers order the staff to remove then from the shelves as they don't like to see customers getting a good deal. You'll get interrogated if you happen to find one.

            • @JIMB0: If you know this for a fact, then complain to HQ. If you heard it from your mate, stop spreading fake news. Doesn’t make sense that store managers are driving customers to other stores for no gain to them.

              • +1

@Save 50 Cent: This is fact. I happened to find the only card in store and at the checkout they called the manager over who gave me the third degree over where I got it from because he said they removed them all from the shelves.

                • -3

@JIMB0: Ok.. so it happened once for god knows what reason (probably a good reason) and somehow you made two wild assumptions about the reason they did it and also about all woolies managers of that background doing the same thing.

                  • +5

@Save 50 Cent: Found the Woolies store manager.

                  • @Save 50 Cent: I've also had women from the same demographic stop or try to stop me buying gift cards before because they didn't want me getting a good deal.

                    • @JIMB0: What demographic?

                      • @rokufan: I'm not going to get put in the penalty box for mentioning it. All I'll say is it was in one of the newer outer suburbs of Melbourne.

    • +1

Scoped out 5 woolies near me (Redlands QLD). 3 have no stock I could see on display, one had 4, the other about 20. I don't like my chances since I can't get to woolies until mid afternoon anyway.

    • +2

      Check the freezers?

      • +1

Apparently it's also safe to stash them under the toilet paper now that the pandemic's over…so I've been told…

    • +1

I had to ask the service desk and they cracked open a new box for me. Nice to know I could trust them too.

  • +1

Catalogue page 54: Bonus 6 x EDR pts offer meets 3% off offer in the EDR App only.

    • +2

?? sorry can you please elaborate?

      • Similar to this, Woolworths Group eGCs only. Probably start from the 20th.

    • This is not really related to this deal and ideally would be captured in a new deal.

  • Last time this promotion came up, it took Woolworths 10 business days to transfer reward points

    • +1

no points no purchase only buy if it shows up on the screen

not worth the time calling up

    • It xferred to my QFF points instantly. YMMV.

    • I bought two today and got the points instantly.

  • -1

    I feel offended by woolies.

  • +1

I was just at the store and it’s already raided lol

    • Why would anyone buy them now when the promotion will only begin in two days time?

      • They are hiding them

      • +1

People/lowlifes simply take them from the store and bring them back when the promo starts to 'buy them'.

        • +5

Wow, is that serious! I appreciate they're no value when not activated, but it's still technically stealing. Risking being caught/fined to save 3.4% is a little mad, especially when you can easily get a 4% Woolworths, 5% Dan's etc discount easily via NRMA, employee rewards programs and others!

          • +1

@PhilToinby: But this is a discount on literally everything else in life including taxes. Not justifying but only clarifying.

          • @PhilToinby: The 4% off ww gift cards has nothing to do with this?

You can't pay taxes with a ww gift card and you can't use a ww gift card to buy these.

            How would you get fined?

            • +1

@surfingedge: You'd get fined if you were caught stealing, and i guess it would go on your police record.

Sure, you can lower your tax bill with these. Most people pay way more on booze & food than tax! Just saying

  • can you use category gift card to pay this?

    • No.

  • Good luck finding any, Coles is still going strong with ther Mastercard.

  • can you use this to purchase gift card from coles or bigw ?

  • +2

No luck with the coles last 2 times, no luck with this one last time also.

I now dont bother after spending alot of time travelling between stores but never find any

  • Iirc I couldn't use it in Woolies last time. Can't remember if I ended up spending it all at Coles.

    • you mean category gift card?

      • I think it’s this one, yellowish/gold glitter card. Ah I spent it on ShopBack in the end. Now I remember.

  • -1

Not worth it. Less than 5%.

  • -1

There will not be anymore [%10 discount deals

  • +3

Checked 3 stores, no stock. Seems like the same problem everyone else having.
Has anyone actually got some, or is this deal a red herring again?
I say there is insufficient quantity for this to be a real deal.
No offence OP, it would be a good offer if people could claim it.

    • One of my locals were loaded with variables last time (regional so more likely to have stock).

    • The variable load cards are probably not stocked in all stores. I had checked last week (& in the last offer) at a few stores but they don't have them.

    • the last 10x eftpos offer, I went to store at 7:30am Wed, only 1 variable card left, so you can imagine how popular they are

    • people steal them and return to checkout later

    • +1

I had to ask service desk to open a new fresh packet after trying multiple stores for over a week last time.

  • One of my locals had no stock of any of the 3 cards …

  • +1

Do these count towards credit card minimum spends, or can they tell it's buying gift cards?

    • +3

      you will be fine :)

    • At woolies it will be coded as groceries

  • Does the T&C imply one customer can buy 5 normal cards plus 2 variable loads per day?

Or 3+2 inclusive and max of 5 in total (not that I've ever seen the variable one stocked at my local woolies)

    • Yeah, pretty ambiguous. Previous deals were max 2 per transactions per member per day, very concise.

This time I would interpret as 5 non-variables per day if you don't buy any variable, if you buy variables then the limit is 2.

However, what if you only buy 1 variable, how many non-variables can you buy?

  • +1

Hope they actually have stock, been to no less than 5 stores last time, variable load was nowhere to be seen.

  • Can they bought using split payment?

    • Not sure about Woolworths system, Coles doesn't allow it at self checkout. I think the rational is they can't predict if gift card will be a part payment after processing earlier part payments, to avoid unnecessary reversals the system doesn't allow it when gift cards are in the basket.

Assisted checkout may work but never tried.

    • Woolworths seems to allow unlimited splitting with cards and cash

      • Yes, you are right. I remember one time part paid using credit card and the balance with loose changes, but some coins weren't recognised, so credit card again for the remaining balance.

        • Put coins in first then you don't need to count them!

    • +2

Yes I just did split payment with 2 different credit cards

  • I'll give it a pass for this one.

3.4% off doesn't worth the effort for going around to hunt for the cards.

    • +8

It's a prepaid Mastercard that can be used to pay bills, you don't look at it as a percentage discount.

It is between paying a $500 bill using a regular credit card vs paying the same bill and get $17.05 shopping credit.

In both cases you still earn points for spending the $500, and prepaid credit card is usually treated as debit card and sometimes attracts lower fees.

Case in point DEFT charges 1.2% for Mastercard, 0.4% for debit Mastercard. So it's $494.07 in payment + $5.93 in fee or $498.01 in payment + $1.99 in fee.

  • -1

How do you make sure the cards haven't been tampered with?

    • you can't the job is too professional

  • No variable at Top Ryde Shopping Centre

  • +1

Not available two Woolworths…in western Sydney.

They have $50 and $100 but not the $500 as they didn't receive stock…! Absolute bullsheet !!! Probably staff want to for themselves before putting out leftovers!

  • No variables at Thornleigh…. Big waste of time. You can see the spot where they are supposed to be

  • Purchased eastern suburbs Victoria
    Only 2 variables left
Can confirm points received instantly after purchase

  • +1

    No variable Crows Nest

  • Surely they can't keep advertising deals like this when they are unobtainable.

Probably some loophole requires them to ensure stock at some locations but not all locations.

Actually shopped at Woolworths this morning to also look for the Cards, otherwise would have shopped at Coles because 1) closer and 2) I have Coles Myer GC to use.

Builds a case for bait and switch.

  • Lucky to find some in Hobart this morning. The lady serving mentioned there were only a few left in the drawer

  • +1

No stock anywhere. Complete dud deal.

  • can i purchase these cards through wish/woolworths giftcards ?

  • +2

Found plenty 50-500 at WWS Burwood Plaza (NSW). Really wanted to hide the rest somewhere in the freezer for myself tomorrow but finally be generous ozber and share the info.

    • I was just there and ended up not buying them as the barcode appears to be printed partially on a sticker. Literally every card on the shelf was like that though so I'm not sure.

      • Just checked the balance and spent on DEFT without problem

        • +1

Damn, hopefully they are still some left on my way home tonight.

      • Same - checked all the giftcards and they all had the sticker on the barcode. Just used them 1 hour after activation and nil issues.

    • went there 3pm none left

  • None in the kings langley or glenwood stores in western Sydney. The staff said they just didnt have them but im sure there were a bunch a few days ago. Grrr
