High end morons expecting someone to pay $250 more for the charging dock.

    • To be fair it also has a speaker.

      • -2

It's still way cheaper on its own…

    • Just buy dock separately for $189

  • +10

Once again I'll bite if it comes with the dock at this price, orelse this thing is DOA as it always been since release.

    • +5

I kinda disagree with your take on this.

I've had the pixel tablet with the dock for a few months now and I find that the dock only has 2 useful features. The first being the convenience of charging and the second being the 90% charge limit when using it.

The dock is pretty bad as a speaker. I find the built-in speaker on the tablet much better for video since it has much better clarity, even if that comes at the expense of the fullness of the sound. A cheap Amazon echo sounds better.

As for Chromecast on this when used as a dock, I don't see the point. It's so easy to navigate things on a tablet, as opposed to like a TV when it's hard to type stuff. So it makes no sense to cast stuff to the tablet - just open it natively.

In saying all that, the tablet is well worth it's price here. The real issue with the dock is that Google just dropped the ball on it. A charging mount for $50 would have made the dock cheap enough for people to buy multiple for convenience. The smart aspects of it are useless.

For 99% of general public out there the ipad 9th gen at $397 is a better buy.

Only way that Google can swing it is to bundle it with the dock.

        • +8

The 9th gen is a fugly decade old untouched design and the unlaminated screen makes it feel like its resistive tech.

Using Google's pricing, to sell you with a dock at $350 would essentially mean they are letting the tablet go at $100. Does that seem realistic to you?

        • +4

I had the iPad 9th Gen before this and I hated it. Not cus it's bad - it's actually really good. But as someone not in the apple ecosystem it got a little frustrating. And I feel like that sentiment would extend to a lot of people.

And the dock not being included at this price is far from a deal breaker - since like I said earlier, it really doesn't do much.

          • @Voldemorts Flat Nose:

But as someone not in the apple ecosystem it got a little frustrating. And I feel like that sentiment would extend to a lot of people.

i hear you brother, it's really hard to pop over from Android to IOS and finding settings, changing ID's is sich an intuitive chore.

it's a rock solid device, if you're in that ecosystem.

        • I have an ipad pro and an old Samsung tablet. Don't really see the benefit in ipad os nowadays. The old ipad 9th generation doesn't seem a win to me over this. Where do the 99% of people benefit?

          • @Ronnnie: 99% of people don't benefit.

99% of people who have other Apple devices are the ones who benefit, because if you're in that ecosystem there are many advantages and simple ways to interact with your other Apple devices.

The last Apple device I owned was an iPhone 4 and I've never looked back, Android all the way for me. I have no interest in buying an iPad let alone any other Apple device so that I can use a crippled OS with limited power user settings and be forced to use my devices the way Apple wants me to use them.

  • Chromecast built in, but needs charging dock to screencast lol

    Link goes to dock combo.

This is the link for the tablet only

    Edit: fixed by wookie ✅

  • I think HN came to the party a little too late. Most people would have jumped on the JB deal.

    • +2

It was the same price when the JB deal was on but now is also eligible for the gift card offer

      • +1

Plus you are buying from HN, a retail icon.

  • How is this for taking notes in meeting using Office apps and a stylus?

    • I’m half keen to see what the new scribe will be like next month as for as a document mark up and note taking device. Sure, no colour screen, but I don’t need it

  • +1

This or the xiaoxin pad pro ?
Its similar price so i am so confused.

    • the 2025 model is a lot more powerful than google tablet, so good for games, etc, but your warranty is overseas

I just did the price beat HN in officeworks and got it at 330 ( at exact 297 with 10 percent ultimate gift card off). HN being 1 dollar less than officeworka is beneficial 😂

    • This is the way

    • Are other retailers beating HN's prices including its 10% off gift card deal?

    • +1

OW has just dropped it to 348 :(

Not worth it. Practically throwing money for one of Google’s failed experiments. Anyone remembers Chromebooks?

Just get a second hand iPad.

    • +1

This isn't a ipad/tablet replacement and it has its own unique features.

    • Chromebooks are excellent devices that come in a range of form factors.

    • Chrome books are booming, just not where you think. They are the standard in education now.

    • I agree with your opinions!

As a person who's owned one since it came out, my general feeling is that its okay as an andriod tablet but nothing more. It should have been priced at around $350 with the dock included. The dock charging feature can be problematic if it doesn't sit correctly on the contacts. The speaker is disappointing and we end up connecting it to our home standalone Bluetooth speaker. We bought it originally to integrate with our googe wireless outdoor cameras and doorbell. But found it couldn't notify us when someone pressed the google doorbell. Now it just sits on the kitchen bench and we use it for google assistant and playing youtube music. Personally given how long its been out its disappointing tgat google has failed to develop it.

Good for people wanting to avoid constant personal data harvesting by putting GrapheneOS on it.

  • Waiting Google's own sale next week. Hopefully lower

    • Unlikely Google will be cheaper - but they offer Price match anyway. I ordered one through the Google Store at full price (I have store credit) and they will refund the difference after the order ships.

  • +1

Biggest disappointment for us is when docked, does not function as a nest camera like the hub Max on the home app, despite having a camera.
Hopefully software fix at some point

  • All they had to do was deliver a nest hub max with detachable screen and they failed on just about every front including price.
