      why? e.g. does a year 7 student need 2.8K, 32GB &1TB?

        • +9

Exactly! a “must” for you 👍

          • -1

            @GregFiona: Why gave negative vote?

            • @Zeee: you are making too many assumptions. I haven't given you a negative vote m8. Here is the proof, check your votes, I have left a + if that helps you

          Its OzBargain, not ZeeBargain

        • How do your needs differ though? How is doing a PhD relevant?

        • -2

I hope not PhD in gender studies.

  • +5

Agreed, I wish this had 32gb ram. Would've bought.

  • +3

Great price and specs for 90% of users.

  • +3

    Half decent laptop: Yes.
    Screaming bargain: No way.

    • +1

      Agreed, hodl for Black Friday

  • +2

We need REAL black friday or cyber monday deal, this one not super bargain enough.

  • How does it compare to the HP eBay deal from a couple days ago? Specs look similar.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/875124

    • +2

      Specs aren't too similar

Yoga is touchscreen, has double the battery size (but more higher TDP APU)

Pavilion is 1KG, this is 1.5KG

Yoga has micro SD card reader

      • +1

Thanks, I only saw the CPU, ram and ssd size. I didn't even consider those other aspects.

  • +1

Do I really need 32gb ram for Web browsing, streaming video and basic puzzles games?

    • +1

      Nope

    • +1

Depends…how many tabs do you have open?

  • +4

I'm so confused with all these laptop deals
Someone just tell me which one to get

    • Just get this one.. Good price. Will do most of what you need with ease.

  • How is the battery life, will it last for whole school day?
Also what is the difference between intel and AMD for battery context?

    • RE-AMD vs Intel vs Snapdragon

Its really a confusing situation, from what I understand the new Intra Ultras are actually quite good and giving much better battery life than the older model. The new AMD is not really any different to the older 7 series so battery life is not really that different between them and the Intel, the Snapdragon is great for ultra portable and longer battery. To me its the memory/SSD/Screen that are going to be the most important, and we want some casual gaming ability and pen support. This deal seems to hit the mark pretty well but also looking at the Yoga Pro, HP Spectre, Zenbook.

Be great to get some recommendations on other options. Seems to be a really good deal but waiting for Black Friday to pull the trigger.

Mine just arrived, this is my daughters school laptop for next year (Year 10 onwards)
Very nice size and compares well to the existing acer piece of crap the school forced us to buy for years 7-9 which is already breaking and had only 11.5" screen despite being a similar size and weight.

A couple of upgrades, the disk to 1tb, and windows to PRO. Yes I could have bought a cheaper separate pro license .. 1st year support is onsite ~$1400

Just unboxing and it is a very pretty unit. No doubt it's going to get scratched to all hell with a student, but at least it's portable. 14" OLED looks lovely.

Big fan of what lenovo do.

  • About to pull the trigger on this deal as needing a 2-in-1 style laptop, anyone found a better deal out there or similar spec alternative to consider?

  • Anyone bought this recently? We can't get the code to work even though we are adding the exact specs.

    • I think the sale has ended unfortunately, mine shows $1356 on edu store now, with this processor. You may be able to find some discount codes though. Got one and arrived in about 5 days, pretty impressive for the price.
