  • 32Gb not available with OLED screen

    • Would you really want an OLED on a laptop though? Seems like a strange config to me

      • I will not :) I actually ordered IPS version from the last deal
        Just posting for everyone else.

      • +2

OLED will look much better overall, however if battery life is the most imporant feature then and IPS screen is a better option as it uses less power.

  • damn.. nice bit of kit.

  • +1

Same 84Wh battery which combined with the LPE cores means better battery life for non-intensive usage

Funny thing here, you would think the LPE core would mean that the E core is always on giving that low-load performance while the P core kicks in during intensive usage, in fact its the opposite, where the P core stays on at all times and the E core is the one thats on standby.

Now, Jarrod never did a direct Core Ultra to Hawk Point (Rebranded Phoenix Point with NPU) comparison, but we know that the Strix Point have better battery life over Core Ultra, and since we know that Strix Point have higher power draw over Phoenix Point, add one and one together, yeah nah sorry not sorry Intel.

Still makes this a good deal but assuming if both are the same form factor and everything, not much reason not to go AMD for your average folk, not like AMD don't have access to USB4 now which renders the whole Thunderbolt/connectivity argument out of the window.

    • Jarrod can cover the power differences if he drops by this deal

      But this:

…not like AMD don't have access to USB4 now which renders the whole Thunderbolt/connectivity argument out of the window.

      USB4 is not Thunderbolt 4

  • Nice unit. Here I was on the cusp of trying macbook again.

  • Nice unit and very nice writeup, thanks OP.

  • How does this compare to the Ryzen AI 9 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/875361.
Could someone give specific use cases?
Looking to use with office suite, browsing, markups & some light CAD packages.

    • Both will do fine for that type of use case, the AI 9 has a better iGPU and slightly better efficiency but that's really dependent on how you use it, the price difference is quite significant so you are paying for the newer chip etc (the Lunar lake versions is even more expensive). I would do some research around the battery life of both… i tend to lean towards the AI 9 chips for all around stuff inc very light gaming on the go, Lunar lake for ultra efficiency and if you want to save decent amount of money the last gen AMD and Intel chips (which seem to be getting cleared out at the moment hence all the sales :) )

  • Any confirmation that this is eligible for cashback?

  • What's the real world battery life like using web/office applications?

  • Would this be good as a school laptop or would a MacBook be a better choice?
    (Thanks!)

  • My old lenovo pad has some kind of hard coded. Protection where a factory reset doesn't even bypass requiring some old login details that I've lost. Turned me off the brand.
